Dumbledore is Gay, Parents Less So:

The Harry Potter Outing

From CNN:
Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay.

J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall. After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.
Scratch one more childhood safe haven from the list. Parents have one less resource for children to be children, before at age 11, they run off to school to pick up their condoms.

Reliable Andrew Sullivan knew it all the time.
Let's run the gay-check, shall we? No known female companion ever. Brilliant in school. Befriends a despised classmate. Childhood crush on another boy. Morally unsparing. Extremely attuned to and horrified by cruelty.
No word from Andrew about Dumbledore's sense of fashion.

One suspects that JK Rowling now runs in different circles, has different concerns than she did pre-Harry Potter, when she was a poor scribbling lass in a coffee shop. Apparently, the need to add one more small weight of the world to childhood worries was overwhelming, most probably to someone among her new circle.

Some parents are not nearly as gay as Dumbledore, now that he's out of the closet.
