Iran Claims U.S. Warplane Forced to Land in Iran

By Bob McCarty (former Air Force public affairs officer)

The Iranian News Agency (FARS) is reporting this morning that they forced a U.S. warplane to land after it violated Iranian airspace, according ot a Fox News Channel Breaking News Alert moments ago.

A quick glance at the lead story on the FARS web site shows several things wrong with the story that prove it's a hoax:

  • First, the photo accompanying the story is that of an F-4 Phantom, though the story claims that it forced down a U.S. Falcon. The closest thing to a Falcon is the F-16 "Fighting Falcon," an aircraft that is impossible to confuse with the F-4.
  • Second, the vast majority — if not all — of the F-4s in the U.S. Air Force inventory were retired more than 15 years ago when I was still wearing the uniform.
  • Third, the FARS article claims that "the flying crew and passengers, including five US militaries and three civilians, were released after daylong interrogations revealed that they had violated Iranian airspace unintentionally as they were en route to Afghanistan." So we're supposed to believe an F-4 can carry eight people? That's laughable.
  • Finally, the FARS article claims that the US Falcon and all those aboard left Iran for Afghanistan after receiving takeoff permission from Iranian authorities. That, my friends, confirms that the story is a hoax. If Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was able to get his hands on eight Americans and an aircraft, he would not let them go so soon without first fully exploiting them for propaganda purposes.

Greeley, CO Court Handles Shortage of Jurors With a Round-Up of Citizens

When the assigned residents of Greeley, Colorado, didn't show up for jury duty, the District Court did what any self-respecting democratic institution would do.

It sent members of the court staff roaming the streets with subpoenas on the look-out for people it could summon for emergency jury duty. And roam they did, combing the streets of Greeley Wednesday morning with stacks of paper.
Weld County and District Court staff handed subpoenas to more than 50 unsuspecting people, telling them they had to report for jury duty Wednesday morning because many of those summoned by mail did not show.

Some of the people were just walking around town. Rosalee Rice was at the Post Office.

"It's been one heck of a morning," says Rice, who had to call her boss at Colorado Pain and Rehabilitation with the news.

Her initial ire rose when she found out the on-the-spot court order was needed because less than 40 of the 200 people summoned to court by mail turned out.

"As a resident, if you are summoned to go, you should go because it really interrupts everyone else's lives," she said.
Court administrators agree, adding there were trials that were ready to start, but were still in need of a jury.

They say this is the third time in the last two months they've had to take such extreme action. Before December, they believe it had not happened in 15 years.

Judges and administrators will be meeting to discuss what to do with all those no-shows.

Perhaps, the court should take its cue on what to do with the no-shows from the same place it got the round-up idea.

For those in the back of the room, refer to the picture at the top of this post.

Man Forced to Submit to Rectal Exam

The humanity!

Hard to imagine this happening in Doc Adams' day

More proof of the coming Nanny State?

Or, an example of "Domestic Terrorism"?

If it is either, one would imagine that American construction workers would soon raise an outcry from sea to shining sea.

A construction worker claims he went to a hospital after being hit in the head by a falling wooden beam and that that ER staffers forced a rectal examination on him.

If this were the America of the 1880s, this would have been settled mano a mano, most likely, with a firearm.

Like any good American in 2008, the man has filed suit and the courts will settle it--and unlike most lawsuits, the judge says this trial will start in March; not the more usual waiting time of 7-10 years, depending upon on the jurisdiction.
Brian Persaud, 38, says in court papers that after he denied a request by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital emergency room employees to examine his rectum, he was "assaulted, battered and falsely imprisoned."

His lawyer, Gerrard M. Marrone, said he and Persaud later learned the exam was one way of determining whether he had suffered spinal damage in the accident.

Marrone said his client got eight stitches for a cut over his eyebrow.

Then, Marrone said, emergency room staffers insisted on examining his rectum and held him down while he begged, "Please don't do that." He said Persaud hit a doctor while flailing around and staffers gave him an injection, which knocked him out, and performed the rectal exam.

Persaud woke up handcuffed to a bed and with an oxygen tube down his throat, the lawyer said, and spent three days in a detention center.

A request by the hospital to dismiss Persaud's lawsuit was denied by Justice Alice Schlesinger, who ordered a trial to start March 31.

Hospital spokesman Bryan Dotson said, "While it would be inappropriate for us to comment on specifics of the case, we believe it is completely without merit and intend to contest it vigorously."

Persaud's lawsuit, filed in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, seeks unspecified damages. A judge dismissed a misdemeanor assault charge against him.

At least no aliens were involved in the man's account.

And no reports of whether the man called the hospital staff, "Assholes!"
