U.S. Details "Lethal Force"
The Quds Force Sanctions: They Could Prevent War With Iran

by Mondoreb

News detailing Iranian transgressions, a day after sanctions were leveled against the Quds Force and other components of the Revolutionary Guards. This diplomatic move could just prevent a war with Iran. More on the offending behavior from CNN:
The Quds Force, the elite unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, provides "lethal support" to the Sunni-dominated Taliban for use against U.S. and NATO forces, according to information in the new U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran.

The Quds Force is the "Iranian regime's primary instrument for providing lethal support to the Taliban," and it "provides weapons and financial support to the Taliban to support anti-U.S. and anti-coalition activity in Afghanistan," the Treasury Department alleged Thursday in announcing economic sanctions against the Quds Force and other Iranian military and financial entities.

Iran is a predominantly Shiite nation and is known to support Shiite fighters in Iraq, where Shiite and Sunni Muslims have been at odds in recent years, and in Lebanon.
Specifics were also given as to the types of munitions and military gear shipped to forces battling U.S. and Coalition troops.
"Since at least 2006, Iran has arranged frequent shipments of small arms and associated ammunition, rocket propelled grenades, mortar rounds, 107 mm rockets, plastic explosives, and probably man-portable defense systems to the Taliban," the statement said.
Changing Iran's behavior without resorting to war is the goal of diplomacy. Sanctions were one such diplomatic option that was exercised yesterday. Voices will be raised about this "drumbeat of news leading to war with Iran".

But those with only a passing interest in the news of the day, as opposed to news junkies, might be surprised to learn that Iran has been arming forces that have been killing American troops. Upon learning this, they may wonder why steps aren't being taken to combat this.

Yesterday's sanctions, and the news informing of why the sanctions were taken, are the first such steps. Such diplomatic steps might prevent, rather than further, war with Iran.

From CNN:

General Petraeus aka "Bush's stooge"
Details Iranian Weapons in Iraq"

"Bush's stooge" and top U.S. general in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus talked to CNN's Jim Clancy earlier today and detailed the catalog of weapons that Iran is providing to forces fighting U.S. troops--that's Sunni and Shi'ite militias and the insurgents, not the Democrat Congressional leadership.
From CNN:
...Petraeus added, there was "no question" that Iranian arms were ending up in the hands of the Iraqi militias and there was "no debate" that six Iranians detained by the U.S. military in northern Iraq are Iranian Quds force members, the Iranian unit accused by the United States of training and arming insurgents.
Iran is serving as the LL Bean of Iraqi militia armaments; supplying the instruments of death for use against U.S. troops.
"There's no question, absolutely no question that Iran is providing advanced RPGs [rocket-propelled grenades], RPG 29s," Petraeus said.

"It has provided some shoulder-fired, Stinger-like air-defense missiles. It has provided the explosively formed projectiles and it has provided 244 mm rockets, in addition to mortars, mortar rounds and other small-arms ammunition."
The "Bush's stooge" label hung on Petraeus that was mentioned earlier? Credit Bill Maher, the Left's most lovable loser.

Additional reaction is provided by The Prairie Pundit:
The Iranian weapons issue gives a good example of how Iran lies. The proof that the weapons are Iranian is irrefutable. The weapons still have the Iranian manufacturing labels on them. Yet Iran still claims to not be responsible for them. Then there are the Iranian officers who have been captured who are responsible for bringing in the weapons, that Iran also denies. The fact is that Iran's word is no good when it comes to weapons smuggling and assistance to terrorism. This is why any negotiated agreement with Iran would be of little value.
Iran lies? Sounds a little like the Code Pink's favorite stooge, Bill Maher.

Dazed but unfazed, undercover Lizardoid, Killgore Trout reported back to Little Green Footballs with shocking Leftard poll results. 45% of the DailyKOS denizens would vote for former Iranian hostage-taker, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, for U.S. President.
A Daily Kos diarist has put up a poll asking the question, Daily Kos: Who would you rather have lead, Bush or Ahmadinejad?

Bush is actually ahead. But not by much.
The Hillary Clinton campaign immediately denied rumors that Ahmadinejad had been leading the beleaguered Bush before HRC operatives had rigged the voting.

Step Away from the Islamic Republic
IRAN ISSUES 'STERN WARNING'

"I'm Not Kidding!
You'll Be Sorry! Really!"

by Mondoreb

Iran issued the latest in its seemingly-endless string of warnings this morning. The freshest warning has a whiff of the others: Don't mess with us!' Likening Iranian forces to his country's burgeoning nuclear program, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said both were for 'peaceful purposes'.
From the BBC this morning:
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has issued a tough warning to any country considering an attack on Iran.
He said Iran's forces were just for defence, but that anybody who attacked would experience nothing but regret.
In a direct rebuke to American peaceniks, Congressional Democrats and EuroGoofs everywhere, Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, bragged that sanctions wouldn't work, so don't even try.
"Those [countries] who assume that decaying methods such as psychological war, political propaganda and the so-called economic sanctions would work and prevent Iran's fast drive toward progress are mistaken," the president said.
And of course, when Iranian military officials are captured transporting explosives into Iraq,as happened a few days ago, they are also there for "peaceful purposes". Leftists are distressed about those Americans "beating the drums for war with Iran."

Forget the drums. It's time to start beating on the Islamic Republic itself.

IRANIAN OFFICER SEIZED IN IRAQ

Iranian Denials to Follow:"He Was a Tourist With
Explosive Inclinations"

by Mondoreb

By now, everyone knows their parts: Iranian is captured by U.S. forces in Iraq, Iran issues denials, the Europeans and the UN will issue calls "to remain calm" and more Americans fighting in Iraq will die.
US-led forces in Iraq say they have arrested an Iranian officer operating in the north of the country.
They say the man was a member of the Quds Force - an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards - and was detained in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya.

"This individual has been involved in transporting improvised explosive devices," the American military said.
More on this BBC story.
It's perfectly OK for Iran to be operating in Iraq trying to kill American soldiers--if they had the balls to declare war. Since they don't, it's only fitting that the 'cowboys from the U.S.' do it for them. And do it before they become nuclear-armed.
