Canadian Town Shocked by American's Reaction to Shopping Ad

Crossing the Canadian Border into America?

The residents of metro Detroit felt the Canadians from Leamington were taking potshots at them when they read an ad put out by the Uptown Leamington Business Improvement Association. In turn the Canadians were stunned and wondered if the Americans were thin skinned and lacked a sense of humor.
Some metro Detroit residents are seeing red because a small Canadian town known as the Tomato Capital of the World is slamming Detroit and the United States ina marketing campaign to keep Canadian shoppers from crossing the border.

The Uptown Leamington Business Improvement Association sent a list last month to 14,000 households in the town of 30,000 and the surrounding area detailing why Leamington -- with 200 unique shops -- is a better place to shop than southeast Michigan.
A look at what's on the list

1. Uptown Leamington has over 200 unique shops, restaurants and other attractions, takes your loonies and has the best service in North America.

2. With the gas and time you'll save, why risk it in a crazy foreign country?

3. Being strip searched at customs should not be part of your holiday shopping tradition.

4. No need to wear that new gown under your sweats coming back over the Ambassador.

5. American cashiers keep asking what Helen Mirren is doing on the Canadian twenty.

6. U.S. stores sooner ship to Guam than Essex County.

7. If you're going to downtown Detroit and you speak English ... good luck.

8. If you're going to downtown Detroit and you speak French ... good luck.

9. Distance from parking spaces to Somerset Mall entrance farther than your house to
10. U.S. Customs won't believe you are picking up Aunt Elsie at the airport for the third time this week.

Melanie Davis, president of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, took the high road while she had harsh words for the Tomato Capital of the World:
I would like to think that I could come up with some reasons to shop somewhere without having to take potshots at another community."

Hopefully the two communities will be able to "rise above" the current crisis and reach some sort of holiday "truce."
In the interim, we wondered, what language do they speak in downtown Detroit?

Heather Mills Celebrity Ad Campaign:
One You're Not Likely To See

This is Heather Mills.
Former Beatle, Paul McCarney was married to Heather Mills.

This is Heather Mills on drugs?

Miss Mills had stormed out of an interview with Nick Ferrari on LBC radio. Things got off to a bad start when Ferrari asked her about TV and magazine interviews in which she complained about her treatment by the media and said her marriage had driven her to the brink of suicide.

Miss Mills retorted: "Shall I fall asleep now or do you want to get on with talking about global warming?" before making snoring noises.

She added: "You don't know me as a person. To have an opinion about somebody you've never met before is pretty superficial."

Ferrari responded: "I can have an opinion on murderers, on corrupt politicians. I don't have to meet them all."

And Miss Mills hit back: "I am not a murderer or a paedophile. I am a charity campaigner. To put me in the same bracket as those is exactly why I've been treated like one."

From This is London: " Heather Mills' latest bizarre rant: 'Why don't we drink milk from rats and dogs?'"

During another typically bizarre day for Heather Mills, the former model yesterday urged people to try drinking milk from rats and dogs to help save the planet.

Media-shy Heather started off by storming out of a radio interview with London's LBC station.

She then drove a gas-guzzling Mercedes 4x4 to Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park to speak about ecological matters - and kept the engine running for part of the morning.

Once there she proceeded to launch into an extraordinary ecological rant and exhorted the assembled crowds to try drinking rat's milk instead of cow's milk in a bid to save the planet from deforestation for livestock.

She said that livestock created far more carbon emissions than transport, so we should go vegan - someone who eats no meat or dairy produce - or at least find something else to put in tea or coffee.

At Speakers Corner in Hyde Park she said: "There are many other kinds of milk available. Why don't we try drinking rats' milk and dogs' milk?"

Vegan Mills was supposed to be launching a poster campaign for an animal welfare charity.

Italy Bans "No Anorexia" Ad Campaign:

Ads Call Attention to Anorexia

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

Italy has banned the "No Anorexia" ad campaign because it called attention to anorexia? From the BBC:
Italy's advertising watchdog has banned an ad campaign for a fashion label showing a naked anorexic woman, saying it breached its code of conduct.

The image "commercially exploited" the illness, the advertising body said.

The image, bearing the words "No Anorexia", was first displayed during Milan Fashion Week in September.
At first, one might wonder, how does one campaign against an illness if it can't be named? But then it's realized that Italy's authorities thought it smacked of exploitation. Free speech arguments are another matter. Although Italians live in a democracy, they do not have American constitutional 1st Amendment safeguards.

It's enough to spark a hunger strike.
