Conservative Pundit Roundup: Jeremiah Wright and Obama

G. Will, Ann Coulter, P. Buchanan, Mark Steyn, et. al. On Jeremiah Wright

Random roundup of Wright (Jeremiah) and Wrong (Wright's sermons) on the web.

If it takes Obama 20 years to notice that his pastor is a traitorous, racist nut-job, it will probably take him his full term of office to realize that the U.S. has been invaded and subdued by al-Qaida. Let's just hope President Obama pays closer attention during national security briefings than he did during 20 years of the Rev. Wright's church services.

The only good news for the Obama campaign this week is that Obama admitted that his relationship with Rev. Wright is "a legitimate political issue," which at least makes him smarter than John McCain, who just last week denounced the North Carolina Republicans for an ad mentioning Obama's raving lunatic pastor.
--Ann Coulter: Obama Campaign Gives Up On Finding 'Mr. Wright'

For 20 years, Barack has attended Wright's church, listened to his weekly sermons, entertained him in his home. Yet, says Barack, he never heard any racist rants at church, nor was he aware that Wright held so poisoned a view of his country.

Sorry, that is not credible. Wright is a famous preacher in black America, and Barack's denial he was aware of his views marks him down either as a dissembler or a man so obtuse he ought not be a security guard at Wal-Mart, let alone president of the United States.

It is easy now to understand why Michelle Obama, before Barack began to win, had never once been proud of her country. Who could be proud of the America that lives in the malignant imagination of the Rev. Wright?
--Pat Buchanan: Jeremiah Wright—Pastor to the President?

Is Jeremiah Wright a “typical black person”? One would hope not. A century and a half after the Civil War, two generations after the Civil Rights Act, the Reverend Wright promotes victimization theses more insane than anything promulgated at the height of slavery or the Jim Crow era. You can understand why Obama is so anxious to meet with President Ahmadinejad, a man who denies the last Holocaust even as he plans the next one. Such a summit would be easy listening after the more robust sermons of Jeremiah Wright.
--Mark Steyn: Post ‘Post-Racial Candidate’

Obama was dealt a blow by this week’s media tour by his former “mentor” the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Obama’s response Tuesday showed him off-balance.

1. Wright appeared to be deliberately trying to hurt Obama’s candidacy, accusing him of posturing and misleading voters and the media regarding his views on race. This accusation threatens the crux of Obama’s campaign: the notion that, unlike Hillary, he is a principled man and not just an ambitious politician.

2. While repeating many of his more outrageous statements (that the federal government caused AIDS, for example), this time Wright didn’t just attack whites or the United States, but he repeatedly and sarcastically attacked the media. This earned him very bad press and made an Obama response that much more urgent.
--Robert Novak: McCain Not Taking Advantage of Obama Stumbles

For reasons known only to the Reverend Wright, he chose this week to drag me into the mess he has made of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. During a surreal appearance on Monday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., the Reverend Wright said that his congregation, of which Senator Obama is a member, had “stood in solidarity with the peasants in El Salvador and Nicaragua while our government, through Ollie North and the Iran-Contra scandal, was supporting the Contras, who were killing the peasants and the Miskito Indians in these two countries.”

When Reverend Wright made this stunningly inaccurate comment, I was blissfully unaware that he even knew my name -- until my cellphone started buzzing. In short order, the interviews we had so carefully arranged to talk about “American Heroes” became interrogations about events that took place more than two decades ago.
--Oliver North: Focus on Today's Heroes

Wright has seized the media spotlight to the detriment of Obama’s campaign. By yesterday’s press conference, Obama was hoping to put the issue behind him, and be able to press on with his North Carolina and Indiana campaigns before next Tuesday’s primaries. Was Tuesday’s presser enough to accomplish that?

Probably not. As long as Wright is grabbing air time, the media will let him. And he will remain a millstone tied around Obama’s neck.
--Erika Anderson: Obama and Wright, Breaking Up is Hard to Do

When North Carolina Republicans recently ran an ad featuring Wright in full cry, McCain mounted his high horse, from which he rarely dismounts, and demanded that the ad be withdrawn. The North Carolinians properly refused. Wright is relevant.

He is a demagogue with whom Obama has had a voluntary 20-year relationship that implies, if not moral approval, certainly no serious disapproval. Wright also is an ongoing fountain of anti-American and, properly understood, anti-black rubbish. His Monday speech demonstrated that he wants to be a central figure in this presidential campaign. He should be.
--George Will: Jeremiah Wright should be key figure in presidential race

In his speech to the National Press Club on Monday, for example, Wright described America as a country of "segregation, Jim Crow, lynching and the separate-but-equal fantasy." Then he ran outside to feed more quarters into the meter where his time machine was parked.

Video: Ann Coulter Dem Slam-O-Rama

This speech got lots of airplay at the time for the one comment Ann Coulter made about John Edwards. What wasn't highlighted was that she set a new world for Dem put-downs in shortest amount of time.

Coulter gets in 10 shots at the Democrats in 78 seconds.

How could the Mainstream Media have overlooked this?

In the interests of equal time, we also include the last 10 seconds where a Nation reporter gets in an amusing question.

Ann Coulter Endorses Hillary

Tales of the Blancasphere

Recently my gal pal Ann Coulter shocked everyone with her apparent endorsement of Hillary Rodham Clinton. When presented with the all-too-possible match up of Hillary Clinton and John McCain, Ann demonstrated most effectively the right's disdain for the senior senator from Arizona.

Now don't misunderestimate Ann.

She is no dummy. She knows on which side of her bread is buttered.

Ann is what we call in the industry a whore. Whether she is selling her penis cum pussy in a back alley, or her dignity on Fox News, Ann sells herself with every appearance.

Like anyone who markets, Ann understands that when times are a changing, you need to change your product. No one markets buggies anymore.

Well, almost no one.

All those crazy Amish in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin seem to be stuck in the 19th century. But you get the idea. When an idea is no longer attractive, the savvy, less concerned with integrity will always flip and flop to the changes in the wind.

Ann is just hedging her bets, while applying a bit of reverse psychology. Even if things go poorly, and we end up with Hillary as the President, Ann will have endeared herself to the new Commander Gal, and will have guaranteed herself a position as a talking head for at least four more years.

This is the pragmatic side of Ann Coulter.

You know the side.

It's the same side that is responsible for deriding gays, while hanging out with them all the time. It's the same side that condemns abortion, while promoting the procedure to all of her promiscuous pals. It's the same side, which chides Hollywood and the literary elite, all the while hanging out with stars and glitterati.

But there is also a side to Ann, which is pure genius. She uses reverse psychology to promote her own agenda.

By convincing the Democrats that she will vote for Hillary if John McCain becomes the Republican nominee, this tricks the Democrats into voting for Hillary, a much more flawed candidate, over Barack, a much more difficult to beat candidate. If Democrats think Hillary will win over McCain, they will vote for her, permitting we Republicans to destroy her by November.

So don't be concerned by the reports that Ann has gone over to the other side. She is just being pragmatic, and is trying to use reverse psychology on the Democrats to get the candidate we can beat.

I won't tell if you don't.

Has Poor Cap'n Ed Jumped the Shark?

John McCain is no Friend of Conservatives

Poor Captain Ed Morrissey.

One almost hates to disagree with the helmsmen over at The Captain's Quarters. But he seems to be a bit out-of-sorts over a remark that commentator/polemicist Ann Coulter made this week.

The remark concerned John McCain and Hillary Clinton. Coulter said that she would campaign for Clinton if McCain won the Republican nomination.

Exact words and context from Fox's Hannity & Colmes.

This was too much for the good Captain.
So let's walk through the logic here. John McCain gets castigated by Coulter because he aligns himself too often with the Democrats. Her solution to that is --- to campaign for the Democrats? Maybe someone can explain the thought process to me, but it sounds like a hysterical demand for extortion rather than a considered and thoughtful political position.

Can someone explain the thought process to the poor Captain?

Well, sure, it can be easily explained.

It's doubtful if the Captain will agree with that thought process, but let's take a look at what DBKP said 2 days ago in McCain's Double Talk Tango.
Global warming? Illegal immigrants? Tax cuts? Free Speech?

John McCain comes down--and comes down hard--on the side of liberals on every one of the above issues.

With a GOP nominee like McCain, who needs Democrats?

In fact, on almost every issue, John McCain and Hillary Clinton are virtually in perfect, harmonious agreement.

One of the few differences is what to label people who oppose them: where Clinton thinks that those who disagree with her are part of a "vast right-wing conspiracy", McCain thinks they are "racists", "dishonorable", or "dishonest".

Now, what's so hard to understand about conservative disdain for McCain, Captain Ed?

Clinton or McCain?

One could call McCain "Clinton Lite". But that would be making too great a distinction between the two.

God deliver us from having to make the choice between an arrogant, liberal-leaning Senator who lies, backtracks and launches personal attacks on disagreeing conservative opponents and--an arrogant, liberal-leaning Senator who lies, backtracks and launches personal attacks on disagreeing conservative opponents.

If the Captain would like to check back later today, he'll find an article chock-full of McCain's arrogant, sneering attacks on conservatives over the past several years.

But one suspects The Captain is beyond the forces of reason on this particular topic.

Apparently, if you have an "R" beside your name on the ballot, that trumps all for the Captain.

That "R" gives you the same sort of free pass that liberal mouthpieces like the NY Times and Washington Post give most Democrats--and McCain.

Screw all that.

One last shot from Captain Ed.
It appears Coulter hates McCain more than she cares about conservative values. She has acquired McCain Derangement Syndrome, and is rather obviously unbalanced by it. Sean Hannity was clearly embarrassed to listen to this tirade, and Coulter should have been embarrassed to have indulged in it.

What's embarrassing about the truth?

It's not McCain Derangement Syndrome to look at McCain's record and recoil.

The Good Cap'n. might be a Republican first, and a conservative second, but there's plenty of others who will just as soon watch that sad ship depart without them.

It might be argued that perhaps McCain might appoint a better quality of judges than Clinton.

Maybe.

With John McCain, you never know.

Never.

Ever.

By the time the liberal press starts up its tired, highly-inaccurate "maverick" articles about John McCain, who know?

Cindy Sheehan might be the first McCain Supreme Court nominee.

Cares about conservative values?

John McCain is first and foremost a politician. Tops in the McCain value system is John McCain.

If John McCain is the Republican nominee, expect the liberal press to drop its protective McCain stance and start publishing mounds of material on the Arizona Senator and his web of cozy lobbyist relationships.

They might be his buddies in the primaries, but they'll rightly figure: Why support McCain when Clinton's available? John McCain is just an interestingly acceptable consolation prize for the liberal MSM media.

Coulter articulated what's going to be a popular parlor game come September, if McCain is the nominee with the "R" by his name:

Can John McCain woo more independents and Democrats than the conservatives he alienates?

The correct answer: who cares?

Coulter is right, McCain or Clinton is a choice that only Keith Olbermann--or apparently, Ed Morrissey--could enthusiastically differentiate between.

An increasing number of people will come to the conclusion that if Clinton wins, at least conservatives won't be held responsible for the liberal aftermath.

The only thing that can save the Republicans is that McCain is considered by the MSM to be "unstoppable".

Has Ann Coulter jumped the shark?

One wonders if Captain Ed Morrissey's water skis aren't already waxed and ready?

End of a Pundit?

Coulter Caught Having Fun!

[NY Post]

Media Matters Issues Statement
Linking LipLocks and Racism

by Mondoreb

Conservative slinger of firebomb invective, Ann Coulter was spotted in a "passionate liplock" with a Democrat and the NY tabloids are a-twitter. Of course, unlike competitor The New York Times, the tabloids have to fill their pages with something other than the latest Leftard delirium gas.
From the New York Post:
-- ODDEST couple of the decade: lifelong Democrat Andrew Stein and arch-conservative cutie Ann Coulter. The former city council president (when there was such a title) first took Coulter - author of "If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans" - to the black-tie Lincoln Center Film Society gala two weeks ago, where they turned heads. More recently, they were at Soho House "in passionate liplock," according to a witness. Stein told Page Six: "She's attacked a lot of my friends, but what can I say, opposites attract!" So do blondes with ultra-long legs.
The Left hates Coulter and some on the Right are embarrassed by her: they need to call Vanna and buy a clue. Coulter, not out to make friends on the Left, (unlike half the senate Republicans on a good day), is right on the money if you're one who appreciates funny looks at the ridiculous Left.

Just to prove the point, her latest post, "Fred Sawyer and Huckabee Finn" is sure to fire up FredHeads and the IHeartHuckabee crowd. You gotta love a polemically conservative firebomber.

Even if she is a leggy blonde.
