John Edwards Affair: Edwards Persona Non Grata at DNC

Your Ad Here

TYPHOID JOHN, WHERE HAVE YOU GONE?

“Mary Mallon aka Typhoid Mary, was the first person in the United States to be identified as healthy carrier of typhoid fever. Over the course of her career as a cook, she infected 47 people, three of whom died from the disease. Her fame is in part due to her vehement denial of her own role in spreading the disease, together with her refusal to cease working as a cook. She was forcibly quarantined twice by public health authorities and died in quarantine.”
--From Wikipedia.

Poor Mary. Her sad, tragic life has been well documented. But typhoid fever isn’t a thing of the past. In some parts of the world, it’s still quite prevalent. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 22 million people come down with this dread disease each year, with more than 200,000 related deaths.

In today’s current political climate, for the MSM and the Democratic Party, John Edwards is the modern-day equivalent of Mary Mallon. No one wants to touch him with a ten-foot fireproof pole, if recent published reports are to be believed. Both Radar Online and the New York Daily News have reported that John Edwards has tried to reach out to former staffers, colleagues and supporters to express his regrets over his tawdry behavior and “beg” their forgiveness.

Unfortunately for Edwards, his “phone home” campaign has only incurred the wrath of his former aides. Some won’t even return his messages. The ones that do have apparently told him in no uncertain terms just how bitter and disillusioned they are over how they were deliberately deceived and manipulated.

From NYDN: “I let you down, and I'm sorry," is a common refrain of these messages, said another top ex-assistant on the receiving end of one of the calls.

"It was kind of pathetic, to tell you the truth," said the ex-aide, who said he didn't return the call and doesn't expect to speak to his former boss again.”

One source who compared notes with other former colleagues said Edwards makes no attempt to justify or rationalize his behavior in these desperate phone conversations. He simply expresses his regret for deceiving them and asks for their understanding and forgiveness.”

Not that its’ been any better for Elizabeth Edwards. Once a figure of sympathy and considered a victim, whatever goodwill she had in the face of her husband’s perfidy, dissipated like a will o’ wisp, when it was revealed that she was well aware of his infidelity and still, incredibly, encouraged his Presidential run. Her actions---or non-actions---has been the fodder of columnists and bloggers alike. It’s even gotten to the point where some leading Democrats strategists have labeled her “complicit” in this sordid saga.

At the just now concluded Democratic Convention, John Edwards name was never mentioned. He was the Invisible Man. His races, his delegates, were scrubbed from the official record. He was supposed to give a prime time speech; now persona non grata, a man without a party; he wasn’t allowed to deliver so much as a Dairy Queen menu. Think of the ignominy: Edwards was once on the short list to be Obama’s Vice President, and if not that, then a shoo-in for a Cabinet post. Now Democrats wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a police line-up if they had a gun to their heads. His political future in shreds, Edwards would be hard pressed to be elected dog-catcher in Mayberry.

From CQ Politics:

“Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., said he thought it was appropriate that Edwards is staying away.
“What John Edwards did was inexcusable and wrong,” Salazar said. “From my point of view as one of the hosts of this convention, I’m glad he’s not here.”

Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., one of the relative handful of congressional members who endorsed Edwards’ 2008 presidential candidacy, said he was “shocked, appalled, upset and disgraced” over Edwards’ conduct, then said he didn’t want to talk about the subject any further.

When a reporter asked House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., as he was racing to an event, why Edwards is never being mentioned at the convention, Hoyer stopped in his tracks, and said, “You know why.”

John Edwards scandal

And now not only is Edwards without a party, it now seems he’s without a home. It’s been reported that Elizabeth Edwards has effectively banished Edwards from the family home. He’s allegedly cooling his heels on an “extended vacation” at their summer home on the Figure 8 Island on the Outer Banks (both literally and metaphysically).

Well, at least Edwards has a waterfront view in which to ponder his future, unlike the pitiable Typhoid Mary, who died alone and penniless.

Democrats: The Bad News Bears

When tough guy interviewer Bill O'Reilly had his much anticipated interview with Hillary last week, Hillary stated flatly, "We can not win militarily in Iraq." This answer, like so many others, went unchallenged. Despite the fact that we are in the process of a military win in Iraq. Can you spell surge?

The media and the Democrats are largely silent on Iraq these days. Unless its to celebrate the anniversary of the Bush photo op declaring "Mission Accomplished". Or to throw roadblocks in the way of the, now successful, surge. Or to keep the body count in the public eye. Or to demand we withdraw our troops from Iraq. Or to appear fiscally conservative by trying to hold up funding for our soldiers. I guess that money could be better spent funding Hillary's $2.3B in earmarks. Or by funding Alaska's 'bridge to nowhere.' Just last week the DNC ran an ad showing our soldiers being blown up. The terrorists loved that one.

Now that victory appears possible in Iraq, the Democrats refuse to congratulate or even acknowledge the fact that after many years, we've turned the corner, and the blood, sweat and tears of our brave soldiers are finally starting to reap rewards. Last week, a group of Iraqi citizens saw a terrorist set off a car bomb. They chased this guy down and turned him in to the Iraqi police. I'd say that's progress. The Democrats won't.

A shameful thing is happening in America. Possibly half of our elected officials are invested in, and actively promoting America's defeat in Iraq. It has somehow become acceptable, even commonplace, for a politician to put his own agenda ahead of the security of our country. Some, like Ron Paul, are acting out of honestly held principles. The majority, however, welcome and celebrate any and all setbacks in Iraq in order to further their own political agendas.

Success in Iraq, any American success, would destroy the illusion Democrats have been building for 40 years or so. The illusion that America is an oppressor nation, that we are a greedy, indifferent, selfish country that only profits off the backs of the less fortunate. David Horowitz sums it up better than I in his new book, 'Party of Defeat'.

When is the last time you heard Nancy Pelosi or Hillary or any other Democrat leader celebrate the greatness of America? In just the last few weeks, the stock market has risen almost 11%, durable goods orders rose more than expected. For the first time in three years future traders are betting on a rising dollar, jobless claims are down and this is depressing news to Democrats. So they ignore it and continue to convey the notion that the economy has tanked and the only solution is a government solution, administered by them, of course.

Any bad news is good news for Democrats. It is an occasion to summon the cameras, propose more government solutions, with a little hike in investments (taxes, for those of you in government schools) and demand more government. Just vote for them. They really care.

Rising gas prices? A great opportunity to demonize the evil capitalists that run the oil companies. Despite the fact that government is reaping more 'windfall profits' from our gas dollar in the form of taxes than the oil companies. Dems continue to deny America the ability to manufacture nuclear power. They declare our very own vast oil resources off limits for drilling. They're even proposing new gas taxes.

Global warming? Its a crisis and only government can keep the earth from melting. Democrats keep silent about the fact that NASA, one of the leading global warming advocates, just stated that the earth is now entering a cooling period.

The worse the news, the more American citizens will look to the government for solutions. And if there isn't any bad news, they'll manufacture it. Isn't it odd how we only have a homeless crisis when Republicans are in power?

Sadly, this tactic is working. Federal, state and local governments are hiring new workers at the fastest pace in six years. More and more of our lives are being subject to government control. At our expense. An ever increasing number of our elected officials now operate under the notion that the ends justify the means. Reagan had it right when he stated that government is the problem, not the solution.

America has become hostage to the ego and narcissism of the our elected officials. These 'elites' show, by their actions, that they are more interested in attaining power than in protecting and preserving America. Like centuries of Marxists and communists, Democrats are intent on tearing down our country, our institutions, our families, our traditional values and our heritage of Christianity in order to rebuild it to conform to their latest version of utopia.

Elected officials take an oath of office when they are sworn in. They swear to protect and defend America and our Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. My question is, who will protect us from them?

Ralph Nader for President 2008? It Looks Like It

Nader to announce plans on "Meet the Press" Sunday

Ralph Nader, coming to a 2008 November ballot for president, near you?

Ralph Nader will be on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday to possibly announce that he in entering the 2008 presidential race.

Nader used the NBC Sunday news show to kick off his 2004 presidential run.
Kevin Zeese, who was Nader's spokesman during the 2004 presidential race, but is no longer working for him, said Friday that Nader has been actively talking to "lots of people on all sorts of levels" about the possibility of making another run.

Zeese said he could only guess what Nader might do, but added: "Obviously, I don't think ("Meet the Press" host) Tim Russert would have him on for no reason.

This will kill the buzz of many top DNC members, as well as put a pity party on the schedule of the leftblogophere.

From Right Pundits:
Nader chapped Democrats in 2000 by running as a Green Party candidate and costing Al Gore the White House. The DNC waged an all out war on Nader in 2004 trying to remove his name from ballots on technicalities. Nader has already established a presidential exploratory committee which is actively seeking donations and hiring employees.

The news will surely cause some Democrats to say, "The man who killed the Corvair is trying to kill the Democrat dreams for 2008."

That's too bad.

Many of those very same people were cheering when Nader killed the Corvair.

Democrat Congress Takes a Vacation, Military Funding Takes it On the Chin

[Above]: Democrat leaders go on vacation; troops abandoned in the field

Congressional Democrats demonstrated what they do best: nothing.

Well, vacation is a break from work and that's what they did. Of course, it's hard to tell from their list of accomplishments(sic) when this Congress is in session or when it's recessed.

Normally, the fact that Congress is not in session is to be applauded: if America needs one thing less than a terrorist attack, it's another law. The "there ought to be a law" mentality is perfect for both trial lawyers and those to lazy to think of alternatives or unintended consequences of new laws. Congress not in session equals no laws being written.

But this Congress has left a standing U.S. Army in the field, in need of funds. While members of Congress are out pursuing votes, the military will out pursuing funds. More on this latest example of how this Congress supports the troops from Wake Up America's Congress Goes on Vacation and Abandons the Troops:
They failed in their 41st attempt to force an immediate withdrawal and they went on vacation without passing the bill to fund our troops in the field, even after Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned them what the ramifications of such actions would do to our military.

Basically they are determined to punish our troops for doing the unthinkable and succeeding in Iraq, which even the die hard liberal media outlets are blasting across their front pages because the progress is undeniable.
Next time you a Democrat leader uses the word 'historic' in relation to this Congress, give them their due.

It would be the first time an army, victorious on the field of battle, has been de-funded by it's own country in an effort to reverse the victory.

John Cole: Not Much Of a Conspiracy
When the Whole State's in on It

"Teacher says every time John Cole says "Fuck", another
dead guy in Mingo County gets to vote straight Democrat.
"

Somewhere on the road to Doddridge County, John Cole saw a donkey and converted to the Democrat party. Whether he ever completed his journey, he doesn't say because apparently Balloon Juice was having an overstock sale on "Fuck", so they rented him a carnival barker's outfit and let him have at it.

More on his catharsis from Balloon Juice:
I had meant to re-register independent (or as it is known here in West Virginia, “No Party Affiliation”) for the past two weeks after I had finally had enough of the bullshit during the Graeme Frost escapade, but never got around to it (and it really was not that big of a deal, I had made the mental commitment, which is what matters).
This last bit leads one to believe that Cole will make a fine Democrat. And by the way, in the Northern part of West Virginia, Independents are also known as "Closet Republicans". His journey continues.
Long story short, I got up there to register as an independent, said “Fuck it,” and now I am a Democrat. I certainly don’t agree with all their positions, but they are not bat-shit crazy like the GOP.
John finishes with one more "fuck" as evidence his eighth-grade English teacher hadn't failed completely in her educational endeavors.

Joining West Virginia's Democrats (who constitute roughly two-thirds of the state's voters) is a real gesture of defiance for John Cole. Halloween is the perfect time to announce such a move, as he now joins the legions of dead Mingo County Democrats that have been masquerading as Democrats voting the straight ticket there for decades.

It's a hard life being a Republican in the Mountain State. It's even harder to criticize a fellow West Virginian for switching their party affiliation. Especially one who speaks so eloquently as John Cole.
