Lindsay Lohan and Other Marilyn Monroe 'Posers'

We took a look at some of the Marilyn Monroe 'posers', Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears, who had themselves photographed in pictures similar to those which Marilyn Monroe became famous for.

Did these celebrities attempts at Marilyn "imitation" stack up to the original Monroe's?

We'll let our readers be the judge.

In 1962, just six weeks before she was dead from an overdose at age 36, Marilyn Monroe posed for photographer Bert Stern at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. This set of famous pics are now referred to as "The Last Sitting."




She's just 21 but actress Lindsay Lohan was photographed by Bert Stern, the same photographer who photographed Marilyn in 1962 known as The Last Sitting.

"If you saw my house, I have a lot of Marilyn stuff. I've got this painting of her in my house. It's eerie because it's a picture and it's kind of like a cartoon, and there's a big bottle of pills next to her, and they've fallen over." Source - news.com.au

Lindsay seems to have more than just a "thing" for Marilyn:

Lindsay Lohan has purchased the Los Angeles apartment that movie legend Marilyn Monroe once called home. The 20-year-old, who is currently in rehab at the Wonderland Center in the Hollywood Hills, is expected to move into Monroe’s former two-bedroom apartment after her treatment is completed. A Review

Lindsay Lohan has redone Marilyn Monroe’s famous pictures taken in weeks before she died in 1962 called simply “The Last Sitting.” I don’t know why, but New York Magazine offers us an opportunity to see Lindsay’s boobies. You know, for the 8 of us who haven’t seen them. Apparently this is supposed to be artsy and respectable or conjure some similarity between Marilyn Monroe and Lindsay but I don’t see it. Sorry. Take off the wig, props and make up and I’m thinking Lindsay’s freckled ass needs to stop getting career advice from Dipso-Dina. Source - Extrawhoredinary

Anna Nicole Smith emulated Monroe, even dying in a similar manner, from a drug overdose Feb. 7, 2007, at age 39.

The body is still warm and already the comparisons begin between Anna Nicole Smith and Marilyn Monroe. This is a denegrating insult to our American film heritage and to the legacy of Marilyn Monroe.

Let’s put the idea back in the cupboard now. While Anna Nicole Smith was an accomplished hussy who also attempted acting in bad movies, Marilyn Monroe was an accomplished actress who needed men. There is no comparison on their accomplishments. None at all. Source - Right Pundits

Madonna denied she had a thing for Marilyn, yet Fleadip, the Anti-Madonna site has a compilation of photos which shows Madonna copied more than just Marilyn's "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend."

Britney Spears, Feb. 2007, Esquire Magazine

Twenty feet away from me, Britney Spears is pantless. Her sculpted hair makes her look like Marilyn Monroe on a date with DiMaggio, assuming they're going to Manhattan's finest pantless restaurant. She's wearing a sweater that probably costs more than my parents' house, and her white heels add five inches to her five-foot-four pantless frame. Oh, and did I mention she's pantless? She's not wearing any pants.

This is a hard detail to ignore.

A few words from Britney on.. sexuality... from her Esquire photo shoot and the Marilyn "Sweater" pose.

"I was just talking about sexuality with my makeup artist," she tells me. "And I was explaining to her that when I was thirteen years old, I used to walk around my house completely naked. And my dad would say, 'Britney, put some clothes on, we have people over.' My family just always walked around the house naked. We were earthy people. I've never been ashamed of my body. Are these Marilyn "posers" a case of "imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?"

Lindsay admits having a Marilyn fetish while according to the site, Fleadip, Madonna incorporated Marilyn's poses into some of her early videos, even as late as 2003 in the W magazine spread.

Anna Nicole wanted to be Marilyn but became an infamous icon in her own right.

Britney most likely used the Marilyn "theme" for the photo spread in Esquire but we couldn't find any mention of a previous Marilyn "crush."

In our opinion these ladies may have tried to imitate Marilyn but invariably they fell short as none of them will ever be as beautiful or as sexy as Marilyn was. Marilyn was in a class all by herself.

Anna Nicole & Marilyn Monroe: Blond Bombshell Legacies

Today is the one year anniversary of the burial of Anna Nicole Smith. That's right, in "Today in History" across the globe, platinum blond bombshell Anna Nicole Smith's burial anniversary got a mention.

We see Anna Nicole's turbulent life as following along the same lines as the woman she emulated, Marilyn Monroe. Anna Nicole, who in the process of being a Marilyn "wannabe" surpassed all expectations and became infamous in her own right.

Both Anna and Nicole were platinum blond sexpot bombshells who pandered to the cameras. While Marilyn, a movie star who kept her life relatively low-key, a couple of marriages to a famous baseball player, Joe Dimagio, and playwright, Norman Mailer, plus a penchant for driving people nuts by being habitually late, Marilyn's personal life was filled with demons, she overdosed on drugs at age 36 in 1962.

Rumors persisted in Marilyn's death, that she had committed suicide, (there was no note) or she was murdered by people who wanted an "alleged" affair with then President JFK hushed up.

Anna Nicole died on Feb. 7, 2007, her death ruled "accidental drug overdose." Anna Nicole's life was turbulent, a topless dancer who married a very rich old geezer, billionaire J. Howard Marshall, 63 years older than Smith.

Smith became a fixture at Playboy, 1993 Playmate of the year. She had a reality series, The Anna Nicole Show on "E" which premiered in 2002. Smith was overweight and "lethargic"at the time but still fascinated viewers. It wasn't so much what Smith did, the bit parts in movies, the modeling, spokesperson for Trimspa, after she shed the extra pounds, it was her private life that made her famous. Her drug use, the "friends" who surrounded her, the tragedies that included her new baby's question of paternity, her son and her own "mysterious deaths".

Pictures of Monroe did appear in Playboy, photos taken at another time, another place. Hugh Hefner snagged and then published them in Playboy in 1953. Marilyn admitted they were, indeed, her.

Marilyn was a popular movie star in the 50's and early sixties. Marilyn had cachet despite all her own self-doubts and detachment whereas Anna Nicole's life was filled with shady characters, the latest her "companion" Howard K. Stern, whom she hired to defend her lawsuit against the Marshall family. An attorney, the only case Stern ever handled was Smith's against the Marshall estate.

In Smith's last years she lived with Stern, they even "exchanged" rings in a mock wedding ceremony in the Bahamas just ten days after her son, Danny, was found dead in her hospital room, September 10, 2006.. It was rumored that Anna Nicole awoke in her hospital bed to find her son lying next her, already dead from a drug overdose. Her daughter, Danielyn, was born two days earlier in the same hospital.

Smith died from an "accidental" drug overdose on Feb 8, 2007, a little over 4 months after her son's death. Like Monroe, rumors surfaced that Anna didn't die by her own hand, there was no note and large amounts of drugs were found in her system.

Smith and Danny are buried in the Bahamas. Who the father was of baby Danielynn wasn't known until after Smith's death, a photographer, Larry Burkhead, who had sued Smith for paternity rights.

Both Marilyn and Nicole fascinated the public, they captured the camera's eye and exuded sexuality yet both had private lives that were filled with self-doubt, drugs, and loathing... of themselves.

Anna Nicole wanted to be the next Marilyn. In some ways she succeeded, her legacy, like Marilyn's will always be shrouded in mystery, and every year, those "This Day in History" pieces you see in the newspapers and online, will mark yet another anniversary of Marilyn and Anna Nicole's deaths.
