Obama and the 'Tangential' Bill Ayers

Your Ad Here

Ayers: Part of a Pattern
Another Piece of the "Who's Obama?" Puzzle
The 'tangential' Bill Ayers

Barack Obama's relationship with domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, is not a topic for polite MSM or liberal conversation.

We're neither liberal or polite.

LBG discussed the issue yesterday [Obama’s Ties to 1970’s Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers: Disassociation and Little Condemnation]. Today, we'll discuss it again.

No San Francisco cocktail party invites for us.

Democrats insist that any discussion of Obama and Bill Ayers is a "smear".

Is it?

A "smear" is defined as a "vilifying or slanderous remark". While Obama's friendship with Ayers is certainly "injurious to [his] reputation--especially now that Obama's running for president--there's absolutely nothing slanderous about it.

Generally, the truth is an absolute defense in any suit for slander or libel, and the truth is: the Barack Obama-Bill Ayers association goes back years.

The following observations, from comments at Free Republic helps put that association in perspective.

Q: What does Obama and Osama have in common?
A: They BOTH have friends who bombed the Pentagon.

This from stockstrader at Free Republic:

I wish someone would ask [Obama] just once: "Then tell me, would it be ok for a child who was eight years old on 9/11--to then have a friendship with Osama bin Laden later in life as an adult"?

We might add "running for president in 2020 or beyond" to the description of that eight-year-old child.

Mark Steyn's comment on the Obama-Ayers connection:

"Well, why shouldn't they vote on "character"? Barack Obama has no accomplishments, no legislative record, no nuthin'. So if you don't want to vote on character (ie, his condescension to crackers too boorish to understand how sophisticatedly nuanced it is to have a terrorist pal and a racist pastor), what else is left?"

[h/t: What's the Rumpus?]

Bill Ayers in 2001.

Obama launched his political career from Bill Ayers' house. Ayers' has had fund-raisers for the Democrat presidential candidate. Obama chaired the foundation that Ayers wrote the grant for. Obama and Ayers served on the same boards.

This is not, as Obama told Bill O'Reilly this week, a "tangential" acquaintance. This is not "one of the thousands of people that I know".

That Obama didn't see anything wrong with Ayers until it became a campaign issue reveals something about Obama: his actions and past associations somehow seem to center around "change": as in, 'the USA is not a good place' and needs to be changed.

Ayers tried bombing his way to change--regardless of what the voters and the rest of the community had decided.

To discuss Obama's relationship with Ayers isn't to claim that Obama wants to blow things up (Obama's "Barack the bomb-thrower" remark). But it may help reveal the mindset of a man who wants to become president--before he became nationally-known.

That his campaign continues to downplay this--disingenuously, we think--is evidence that Obama's handlers feel this is a damaging issue. As LBG stated:

barrackobama.com's FACT CHECK section on Ayers cites various MSM sources which claim the Ayers-Obama connection is “phony”, ‘tennous”, and a “stretch”.

DBKP FACT:

Barack Obama held his first fundraiser at Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine’s home in 1995.

“Obama claims Ayers was just a “guy in the neighborhood,” but clearly he was more than that. Obama misrepresents his relationship with the man in whose home his first fundraiser was held.”
–Investors Business Daily

Here's how the Chicago Sun-Times, in a bit of WTF-ery, puts it:

Ayers is nothing more than an aging lefty with a foolish past who is doing good. And while, yes, Obama is friendly with Ayers, it appears to be only in the way of two community activists whose circles overlap. Obama's middle name is Hussein. That doesn't make him an Islamic terrorist. He stopped wearing a flag pin. That doesn't make him unpatriotic. And he's friendly with UIC Professor William Ayers. That doesn't make him a bomb thrower.

Individually, those Obama actions may not raise eyebrows at the Sun-Times; collectively, might they seem to suggest, to the uninterested observer, an Obama pattern?

In the O'Reilly interview, Obama was allowed to skate away from the questions on Ayers by saying that Ayers was "tangential": Bill O'Reilly didn't hone in on the follow-up. That's understandable: O'Reilly would like to land another rating-boosting Obama appearance on his show at some point in the future.

The Obama campaign will not, just as understandably, bring up the issue of Ayers unless pressed. The Mainstream Media will not, just as understandably, press the issue with a candidate that 90% of their reporters will likely vote for in 2008.

Which, once more, leaves it up to the blogosphere to press the issue.

We intend on doing that, along with others. To those on the right, there's a lot more to discuss about Obama and Ayers and we'll get around to that. To those on the left, "sticks and stones..."

As for the "smear" talk?

We're not asking about Obama's kids or whether he's their father: we're asking about a man from whose house Barack Obama announced his Illinois Senate bid:

The 'tangential' Bill Ayers.

bin Laden: Now You're in for It, EU

Al Qaeda lead Osama bin Laden is back at doing what he does best these days: issuing threats to the many people, places and things which threaten his world-view of Islam.

This time, he's threatened the European Union with "grave punishment" for the publication of the Danish cartoons, which he believes mock Islam's prophet Mohammad.
In an audio recording posted on the Internet coinciding with the birthday of Islam's founder, bin Laden said the drawings, considered offensive by Muslims, were part of a "new crusade" in which Pope Benedict was involved.

"Your publications of these drawings -- part of a new crusade in which the Pope of the Vatican had a significant role -- is a confirmation from you that the war continues," said the Saudi-born militant leader, addressing "those who are wise at the European Union".

You are "testing Muslims ... the answer will be what you shall see and not what you hear."

It is not known where bin Laden is issuing his threats from, but the al-Qaeda leader is known for not being shy with threatening words when he is powerless to bring about actions.

So apparently, he is impotent.

No jokes, please.
It was bin Laden's first message since November 29 when he urged Europe to end participation with U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

What did bin Laden say to the European Union, exactly?

Where's Osama? Followup

In our story yesterday, "Osama bin Laden: Where's Osama?", we left out a couple of graphics.

RidesAPaleHorse sent us a reminder, so we thought we'd do a little follow-up to the question: Where's Osama?

Osama bin Laden: Where's Osama?

"Whereabouts unknown"

Where's Osama?

Every so often, the question arises of where the al-Qaeda leader has vanished to.

bin Laden's whereabouts were a mystery as far back as 1999.
Osama bin Laden, the Saudi millionaire accused by the United States of plotting bomb attacks on two U.S. embassies in Africa, has left Afghanistan, Afghan sources said Saturday.

People have been asking the "Where's Osama?" question for awhile now. The CIA would like to know.

The question has inspired some take-offs.

There's several versions of the popular "Where's Waldo?" children's game out--on the Internet anyway--featuring the man who murdered almost 3000 people on September 11 2001.

The Iraqi version of "Where's Osama?"

Where's Osama?

Some commentators say that Osama Bin Laden is dead; that he's food for the worms. Others point to the stream of threats and instructions he's issued via videotape.

Every time a new Bin Laden tape appears, the questions start again.

Where's Osama?

Given the political outlook of most Hollywood celebrities, Osama should be a star in a motion picture.

Gaius at Blue Crab Boulevard has an idea
what disguise the terrorist mastermind is using

Many have speculated that Osama is sick and tied to a kidney dialysis machine somewhere in a cave in Pakistan.

That might be true.

Or he might be dead.

Or, he may be alive and in disguise, living in the Middle East.

Although, with a price of $50 million on his head, surely some enterprising youngster would set himself up for life--if they knew where he was.

Even the Protesters wanted to know

At least one guy in the picture above has an idea for tracking bin Laden down in a hurry.

Although these pictures are amusing, the man they portray is not. However, it's said that one of the better ways to deal with stress is through humor.

So be it.

It's been 2372 days since September 11 2001. That's 6 years, 5 months, 29 days, including today.

2372 days since 2998 people from over 80 countries lost their lives.

Most of them were Americans.

Where's Osama?

It would be satisfying to know.

If he's found, his fate will most likely be anything but humorous.

Al-Qaida Supporters Attack Al-Jazeera: 1001 Arabian Nutroots

by Mondoreb & Ginn

Websites supporting al-Qaida have rained down insults and invective on Al-Jazeera, many times a dependable source for the distribution of their viewpoint. Thousands of insults have been posted blasting the TV station, which centers around providing news with a pan-Arab point of view.

More from Yahoo News:
Al-Qaida sympathizers have unleashed a torrent of anger against Al-Jazeera television, accusing it of misrepresenting Osama bin Laden's latest audiotape by airing excerpts in which he criticizes mistakes by insurgents in Iraq.

Users of a leading Islamic militant Web forum posted thousands of insults against the pan-Arab station for focusing on excerpts in which bin Laden criticizes insurgents, including his followers.

Analysts said the reaction highlighted militants' surprise at bin Laden's words, and their dismay at the deep divisions among al-Qaida and other Iraqi militants that he appeared to be trying to heal.

Al-Jazeera isn't used to militant attacks from a base of viewers it usually can rely on for support. A couple comparisons between this blow-up and the nutroots in America. First from Captain Ed:
How desperate have the Islamist terrorist nutcases become? They have flooded al-Jazeera with threats and obloquy after hearing AJ broadcast the latest tape from Osama bin Laden. They refuse to acknowledge the pleading from their leader that signals his dejection, claiming that the Arabic news agency misrepresented the message:
Next from JammieWearing Fool:
This ought to be fun. Reminds me of when the nutroots scold the networks for not being as insane as they are.
And lastly from Wake Up America:
Where is the popcorn? Remember the bin Laden video that was released on Oct. 22, 2007? Well, bin Laden admitted that al-Qaeda had made some mistakes and al-Jazeera dared to actually report it and now al-Qaeda supporters are mighty peeved at al-Jazeera.
Back to the angry al-Qaida allies.
"God fight Al-Jazeera," railed one militant Web poster, calling the station a "collaborator with the Crusaders" for suggesting the tape showed weakness in al-Qaida and featuring discussions of how the tape reflected weaknesses and divisions among insurgents in Iraq.

The recording aired Monday contained unusually strong criticism of insurgents in Iraq from bin Laden, who urges them to admit mistakes and unify. Bin Laden even aknowledges that he advises himself not to be "fanatical" in his stances.

"Some of you have been lax in one duty, which is to unite your ranks," bin Laden said. "Beware of division ... Muslims are waiting for you to gather under a single banner to champion righteousness. Be keen to oblige with this duty."

"I advise myself, Muslims in general and brothers in al-Qaida everywhere to avoid extremism among men and groups," he said.

The tape was met with a cautiously positive response from at least one insurgent coalition that has been opposed to al-Qaida.

But the Al-Fajr Media Center, which usually posts al-Qaida video and audio tapes on the Web, accused Al-Jazeera of "counterfeiting the facts" by making the speech appear as exclusively critical of insurgents.

"Al-Jazeera directors have shamefully chosen to back the Crusaders' side, and the defenders of hypocrites and the thugs and traitors of Iraq," Al-Fajr said in a statement posted on several Islamic Web sites.
The latest video released by Osama bin Laden seems to have split the al-Qaida community more than it helped. War on Terror warriors should take heart.

McCain: "I'd Shoot Osama":

"OK, Maybe I Wouldn't"

[e-graphic]

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

Presidential candidate John McCain wouldn't be mistaken for Dog, the Bounty Hunter, but he sounded a bit like him today in New Hampshire.
Boston.com:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain told workers of small weapons factory that he not only wants to catch Osama Bin Laden if elected, but said he "will shoot him with your products".

"I will follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell and I will shoot him with your products," McCain said.

After making the stirring soundbite, McCain then issued a statement making listeners think his next stop was breakfast at the Waffle House.
McCain told reporters afterward he was joking when he made the comment at Thompson Center Arms in Rochester.

"I certainly didn't mean I would actually shoot him. I am certainly angry at him, but I was only speaking in a way that was trying to emphasize my point," McCain said. "I would not shoot him myself."
McCain later made a stab at a clarification and backtracked. Daily Pundit, on the other hand, issued no clarification:
I, for instance, don’t need to be elected to anything to want to put a slug through Islamabama’s murderous skull, nor do I need that slug to be from any particular “weapon’s factory.”

Why is it that presidential candidates have this urge, this tender feeling, about not offending anyone? Even if the offended person is a terrorist mastermind holed up in a cave somewhere in Pakistan? Or his apologists and well-wishers?

Sign at the next McCain rally: "Fight the Reflex, John!"

Video: Latest bin Laden Video Could be Made by DNC

by MONDOREB

The AP's Paul Haven summed up the latest Osama bin Laden video release thusly:
Osama bin Laden's latest message is a hodgepodge of anti-capitalist vitriol, impassioned Islamic evangelism and what can best be described as a twisted attempt at reconciliation: Join us, or we will kill you.
What strikes one is that Bin Laden's latest "YouTube Moment" could have been written by any of the Democratic Party candidates. Hard to tell Osama from Obama without a program. In fact, B.Hussein Obama's expressed aim to "bomb Pakistan" is cut from the same cloth as the Al-Quaida mastermind.

With a little post-editing, the video could be used as a DNC press release. And, it had none of the annoying hedging, denials, confirmations and flip-flops that accompany any of the Hillary Spin Corps clarifications: how her vote for the Iraqi War was really a vote against the war and one for affordable health care for ALL Americans.

Of course, someone from France was quick to point out
bin Laden was well aware that his reappearance on the world stage, looking fit and calm despite his years on the run, was itself a victory that went way beyond anything he actually said.

This came from Anne Giudicelli, a former French diplomat specializing in the Middle East who now runs the Paris-based consultancy Terrorisc. Leave it to the French to spin the video's pasty images of bin Laden into a glowing picture of health. In my mind, bin Laden looked only slightly more 'fit and calm' than one of those blow-up clowns kids are fond of bopping.

A homeland security advisor for President Bush had her own take:
"This is about the best he can do," Frances Fragos Townsend said about the fugitive al-Qaida leader whose terrorist network is believed to be regrouping in the lawless Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

She went on to add,
"This is a man on a run, from a cave, who's virtually impotent other than these tapes."

Despite this easy set-up, I refuse to include at this point another joke on bin Laden's notoriously microscopic manhood. I do have standards.

Which is more than many of the usual Mainstream Media Mouthpieces can say. Typical coverage ranged from 'uncritical' at best to 'breathlessly anxious'--much like the Goth chick down the street as she's waiting for her prom date.
