Terrorism: Keeping the Blinds Closed

Do you think a liberal Democrat would understand this?

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation.

My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our front living room window.

He said 'Son, stand there and tell me what you see?'

'I see trees and cars and our neighbor's houses,' he replied.

'OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United States of America and you are President Bush.'

Our son giggled and said 'OK.'

'Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that every house and yard on this block is a different country' my husband said.

'OK Dad, I'm pretending.'

'Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and pretend you see Saddam come out of his house with his wife, he has her by the hair and is hitting her. You see her bleeding and crying. He hits her in the face, he throws her on the ground, and then he starts to kick her to death. Their children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are screaming and crying, they are watching this but do nothing because they are kids and they are afraid of their father.

You see all of this, son. What do you do?'

'Dad?'

'What do you do son?'

'I'd call the police, Dad.'

'OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations. They take your call. They listen to what you know and saw but they refuse to help. What do you do then son?'

'Dad... But the police are supposed to help!'
My son starts to whine.

'They don't want to, son, because they say that it is not their place or your place to get involved and that you should stay out of it,' my husband says.

'But Dad...he killed her!!' my son exclaims.

'I know he did...but the police tell you to stay out of it. Now I want you to look out that window and pretend you see our neighbor who you're pretending is Saddam turn around and do the same thing to his children''Daddy...he kills them?'

'Yes, son, he does. What do you do?'

'Well, if the police don't want to help, I will go and ask my next door neighbor to help me stop him,' our son says.

'Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and refuses to get involved as well. He refuses to open the door and help you stop him,' my husband says.

'But Dad, I NEED help!!! I can't stop him by myself!!'

'WHAT DO YOU DO SON?' Our son starts to cry.

'OK, no one wants to help you, the man across the street saw you ask for help and saw that no one would help you stop him. He stands taller and puffs out his chest. Guess what he does next, son?'

'What Daddy?'

'He walks across the street to the old ladies house and breaks down her door and drags her out, steals all her stuff and sets her house on fire and then...he kills her. He turns around and sees you standing in the window and laughs at you. WHAT DO YOU DO?'

'Daddy...'

'WHAT DO YOU DO?' Our son is crying and he looks down and he whispers, 'I'd close the blinds, Daddy.'



My husband looks at our son with tears in his eyes and asks him, 'Why?'

'Because, Daddy.....the police are supposed to help people who need them...and they won't help..... You always say that neighbors are supposed to HELP neighbors, but they won't help either...they won't help me stop him...I'm afraid....I can't do it by myself, Daddy.....I can't look out my window and just watch him do all these terrible things and, and, do nothing...so....I'm just going to close the blinds.... So I can't see what he's doing........and I'm going to pretend that it is not happening.'

I start to cry. My husband looks at our nine year old son standing in the window, looking pitiful and ashamed at his answers to my husband's questions and he says... 'Son'?

'Yes, Daddy.'

'Open the blinds because that man.... He's at your front door...'WHAT DO YOU DO?'

My son looks at hi s father, anger and defiance in his eyes. He balls up his tiny fists and looks his father square in the eyes, without hesitation he says:'I DEFEND MY FAMILY, DAD!! I'M NOT GONNA LET HIM HURT MOMMY OR MY SISTER, DAD!!! I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM, DAD, I'M GONNA FIGHT HIM!!!!!'

I see a tear roll down my husband's cheek and he grabs our son to his chest and hugs him tight, and says... 'It's too late to fight him, he's too strong and he's already at YOUR front door son.....you should have stopped him BEFORE he killed his wife, and his children and the old lady across the way. You have to do what's right, even if you have to do it alone, before it's too late,' my husband whispers.

THAT scenario I just gave you is WHY we are at war with Iraq When good men stand by and let evil happen, son, THAT is the greatest atrocity in the world.

* BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! BE PROUD OF OUR TROOPS!

* SUPPORT AMERICA SO THAT IN THE FUTURE OUR CHILDREN WILL NEVER HAVE TO CLOSE THEIR BLINDS...'

This should be printed in every newspaper and posted in every school in America.

Of course that won't happen so we'll use the Internet. If your blinds are closed, do nothing with this email. If they are open I do not need to tell you what to do.

Bike Bomb the Latest in Low-Tech Terror

As if car bombs and IEDs weren't enough to worry about, terrorists have a new tool in their arsenal of destruction: the bike bomb. 24 Iraqi police officers killed and others were wounded. More on this deadly new threat from CNN:

At least 24 Iraqi police officers and police recruits were killed when a suicide bomber riding on a bicycle exploded at an Iraqi police base in central Baquba Monday morning, an Interior Ministry official said.

The blast also wounded 17 people, the official said.

Local health officials put the death toll at 27. They also said a woman and child were among the wounded.

Baquba is the capital of the Diyala province northeast of Baghdad.

The direction terrorists seem to be taking is a backward one, technology-wise. Where explosive artists are concerned, low-tech is the way to go. As detection methods get more sophisticated, the ways of blowing up things will turn retro.

There was the shoe bomber, then a video of using a radio-controlled toy car, now a bike bomber. Reductionist-minded terrorists are probably somewhere working on the next blasting platform: the amoeba bomb.

Turkey Bombs Iraq: PKK Positions Attacked

Latest Turkish-PKK Tensions No Game
The start of a new war? Or just guerrilla maneuvers against previous guerrilla maneuvers?

Bombs were dropped and the Turkish military crossed into Iraq. Tensions between Turkey and Iraq are heating up now. More from Big News Network:

Turkish warplanes and helicopters struck Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq as diplomatic efforts began Friday to defuse tensions about separatist bases in the region.

Turkey's state-run Anatolia news agency reports that Turkish aircraft attacked suspected rebel positions detected during reconnaissance missions.

Turkey has threatened to launch cross-border military operations against rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, who have intensified attacks inside Turkey.

An Iraqi spokesman says the initial results of the talks in Ankara between an Iraqi delegation and senior Turkish officials were positive.

Turkey wanted nothing to do with Iraq when the target was Sadaam Hussein. Now that it's PKK rebels, tensions are near the breaking point on the Turkish side. This is not a condemnation of the Turks and the thorny PKK problem. Just an observation.

Time for a True Confession Story: The Bobby Calvan Assclown Show, as told by Little Green Footballs:

An almost unbelievable example of media arrogance, as a reporter for the Sacramento Bee complains about an ID check at the Green Zone, belittles the soldier for not knowing who “Knight Ridder” is, then brags about his bravery at his blog: Simply Simpatico | The GALLIVANT.

When attempting to access this linked post, now one gets a 404 "Not Found" message. So apparently, the whole deal's off. Fortunately, the forces of history have prevailed at LGF.

Since the little weasel has edited his post to remove some of his creepy comments after being mercilessly criticized by commenters, here’s the original; compare to what you now see at the link above:

That’s when trouble started.

At the first check point, a pair of Ugandan soldiers asked for identification. We showed our military-issued badges. Unbeknownst to us, we were supposed to be carrying an additional form of ID.

He asked for a passport. I told him I didn’t have it on me. (The advice is to lock up your passport once in Baghdad and never take it out until departing.) He asked for another form of ID, and I replied that I didn’t have anything else.

The American soldier assigned by the U.S. military to oversee this particular checkpoint came over to investigate the problem.

He asked if I had a driver’s license on me. I told him I didn’t have one. He looked incredulous. Why would I need a driver’s license in Baghdad; I wouldn’t be driving, I told him.

He took offense at my response.

Then he looked at the second ID of my companion. It was a badge issued by our newspaper. He said it wouldn’t do. Besides, he asked, what is Knight Ridder?

“I never heard of it,” he said. He probably would have never heard of McClatchy, either. (We use Knight Ridder because it already had a bureau in Baghdad before the chain was bought by the McClatchy Co.)

I explained that it’s one of the largest newspaper companies in the United States. It owns the Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, the Kansas City Star.

“I know the Miami Herald, he said. I used to live there. But I never heard of Knight Ridder.” He began to chuckle, pronouncing the company as Knight Rider. Perhaps his chuckles stemmed from memories of the 1980s television show “Night Rider.” He then seemed to mock us.

LGF then has this update: "Calvan hasn’t just removed one post — he pulled down his whole site! And it’s no surprise, because what it reveals about the “reporting” he’s been doing from Iraq confirms everyone’s worst suspicions about media corruption."

Sanchez's "Nightmare": Finally, A General the Left Can Love

Answering critics' allegations that the Left is anti-military, a host of mainstream media and Leftist screedpools paraded retired general, Ricardo Sanchez across the top of their news stories yesterday. No MoveOn.org ads for Sanchez, only admiration for a general the Left clearly respected, agreed with and yes, adored.

WASHINGTON-- A former commander of coalition forces in Iraq issued a harsh assessment of U.S. management of the war, saying that American political leaders cost American lives on the battlefield with their "lust for power."

Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, coalition commander in 2003 and 2004, called the Iraq war "a nightmare with no end in sight," for which he said the Bush administration, the State Department and Congress all share blame.

All but exclaiming, "I'm rehabilitated now!", Sanchez proclaimed his surprising turnaround with a collection of buzzwords and phrases sure to make Code Pink hearts beat faster.

Tears of joy mingled with mochas at the New York Times. Here was a general to believe, and no half-price ad cuts would have to be given. Loving labels such as “living a nightmare with no end in sight”, “catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan” and "catastrophic failure" leaped off the page in the Times' reportage.

Proving that all one has to do to be redeemed in the eyes of the anti-war media groupies is condemn Bush; Sanchez, commander in Iraq during the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, was now clearly on the side of truth and justice. Ricardo Sanchez, condemned the War in Iraq and finally, the Left has found a real American hero. Whatever the retired general had previously scheduled, time now will have to be set aside for photo ops with Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Frank Murtha.

Of the 55-gallon drums of filth Democrats flung at Gen. David Petraeus, the current commander in Iraq, one doesn't remember the label "stupid" being applied. But the impression now is that Petraeus was indeed, "stupid". All he would have had to do to avoid the slurs and arrows of the queue of Democrat midgets was tell them the surge was "desperate", as Sanchez did. Poor Petraeus could have avoided all that trouble if only he'd sung the Sanchez tune. A "catastrophe" here, a "derelict in their duties" there, and he'd have had clear sailing at the Congressional hearings.

Because to the anti-war crowd, a "nightmare" is their wet dream.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq Publishes List of Tribal Leaders It Intends to Assassinate Before 'Id Al-Fitr
The Islamist website http://www.elshouraa.ws/vb, hosted by SoftLayer Technologies Inc. in Texas, USA, has published a list of names, some with photos, titled "Pictures of the Infidels and Apostates Wanted by the Islamic State of Iraq." The message accompanying the list praises the September 13, 2007 assassination of Al-Anbar Salvation Council head 'Abd Al-Sattar Abu Risha by the ISI, [1] and threatens other tribal leaders who oppose Al-Qaeda: "We killed your leader and sheikh on the first day of Ramadan, as we promised you. You should know that the ISI will prevent most of your [other] leaders from offering up their holiday prayers [on 'Id Al-Fitr at the end of the month of Ramadan]. You will never see 'Id Al-Fitr, because [the jihad fighters] have turned [this] Ramadan into a grave for the apostates. [Abu Risha] is the first... dead hypocrite of this month - [the month of] jihad and mujahideen - and will be followed by many others."

Dems Say Troop Pull-Out by January 2009

House Democrats are at it again. Promising what they are unwilling to deliver.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush's request for nearly $200 billion more to fund the Iraq war will not be approved unless it is linked to a plan to bring home U.S. combat troops by January 2009, the head of the House appropriations committee said on Tuesday.

Rep. David Obey, a Wisconsin Democrat, told a news conference his panel would not even consider the war funding request until early 2008, by which time he estimates funding for military operations will have run out. Defense Secretary Robert Gates recently outlined the request to Congress.

Of course, it's "let's give it one try" for the Dems.

Democrats, who have majorities in both houses of Congress, have repeatedly tried but failed to force the Bush administration to bring U.S. troops home from the Iraq war, which began in March 2003. While the House has approved demands for troops to come home, the more narrowly divided Senate has gridlocked over the issue.

If this bill is as efficient as previous bills passed by Congress, we can expect to see the first troops home somewhere in 2016. Unless a "War Extension" bill is then introduced. Just another thing that the government doesn't do well.

September has proven to be a month of unrelenting bad news concerning the War in Iraq--for the American Left and the Democrats. From CNN:

A U.S. military commander Friday reported the death of a senior al Qaeda in Iraq leader, a Tunisian who was considered the "emir of foreign terrorists in Iraq."

U.S.-led coalition forces killed militant leader Abu Usama al-Tunisi on Tuesday in Mussayib, south of Baghdad, said Army Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson, speaking to Pentagon reporters via teleconference from Iraq.

Insurgents killed, tough but significant American gains, Iraqi tribes switching allegiance to the US, the Petraeus Report, figures of 19000 enemy combatants killed--and now this. Another terrorist leader killed in Iraq.

This good news for U.S. troops is bad news for Code Pink. The anti-American Left is being forced to ask some hard questions. "Did we back the wrong horse," "Weren't the Iranians supposed to be helping out here," and "What's it going to take for the insurgents to start winning again"? Any day now, a Democrat-sponsored bill to help the seemingly-inept 'militants' might be expected.

Anderson called the death "a significant blow" to al Qaeda in Iraq -- a Sunni-dominated militant group that takes its inspiration from Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda.

Like a schoolyard bully who's been picking on the little kid, only to discover the kids's much larger and more powerful older brother behind him, the anti-war crowd is suddenly shocked and disturbed. One telling bit information from the above report.

Military commanders have said the leadership in the Iraqi group includes many foreigners, while the rank-and-file members are Iraqis.

Google "civil war in Iraq" and one gets over 16.3 million results. The Mainstream Media has been unwavering in their reportage about this Bush blunder into something that has no solution. It's a bizarre 'civil war': where the leaders come from other countries and the Iraqi people complain of being killed by foreigners.

More good news for U.S. troops resulting in: more hands wrung in torment on the Left, louder and more strident anti-war rhetoric receiving more coverage in the MSM. Also expect to see Democrat presidential candidates, dancing like angels on the head of a pin: performing the 'Talking-Point Polka', in an attempt to deal with continuing good news coming from Iraq.

USA Today seems worried about the release of figures showing that U.S. troops have killed over 19,000 "militants" since the beginning of the conflict. Although the paper has a graph labeling the deceased "enemy fighters", they start out their story by labeling the dead fighters "militants". Apparently, those guys were uber-militant. With the coverage USA Today usually provides readers, those figures probably seem shocking.

More than 19,000 militants have been killed in fighting with coalition forces since the insurgency began more than four years ago, according to military statistics released for the first time.
The statistics show that 4,882 militants were killed in clashes with coalition forces this year, a 25% increase over all of last year.

Just another item in what is turning out to be a 'bad news month' for Iraqi defeatmongers everywhere. The surge has shown results, MoveOn.org overplayed their weak hand and now, news of 19,000 dead Islamofascists. The Huffington Post minions must be weeping uncontrollably.

Like any good little MSM mouthpiece, USA Today is not going to let a little good news deter them from their turn-and-run mission. Accompanying the above story are pieces on "The Mental Toll" and "Defense Secretary Seeks $42 Billion". In case anyone misses the point that there can never really be any good news about Iraq, there's a video embedded in the story showing anti-war activists.

Numerous stories abound about Americans and their deficiency where mathematics are concerned. But almost all Americans can put two plus two together and arrive at four.
They can figure out that 19,000 dead "militants" over in Iraq means 19,000 less suitcase bombers, snipers and CAIR press releases over here.

19,000 dead terrorists and USA Today is worried. It may be time for other defeatist media trumpets to worry also.

By now, everyone knows their parts: Iranian is captured by U.S. forces in Iraq, Iran issues denials, the Europeans and the UN will issue calls "to remain calm" and more Americans fighting in Iraq will die.

US-led forces in Iraq say they have arrested an Iranian officer operating in the north of the country.
They say the man was a member of the Quds Force - an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards - and was detained in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya.

"This individual has been involved in transporting improvised explosive devices," the American military said.

It's perfectly OK for Iran to be operating in Iraq trying to kill American soldiers--if they had the balls to declare war. Since they don't, it's only fitting that the 'cowboys from the U.S.' do it for them. And do it before they become nuclear-armed.

Petraeus Report: The Only War Democrats are Willing to Fight

The Left's usual, reliable poodles are yapping again. This time, they're nipping at the heels of the upcoming report by General Petraeus on the situation in Iraq.

Fueled by this MoveOn.org ad in the New York Times this morning, the LA Times, Yahoo News, and like-minded MSM toadies, the 'surrender drums' are beating louder for a US defeat in Iraq, by any means necessary. It's a steady, unrelenting, unyielding, never-ending 'BOOM, BOOM, BOOM' from Leftards desperately needing, yearning, aching for a US defeat--any US defeat. They would support another invasion of Viet Nam if they were assured that US troops would die and we would run away.

If a US defeat might be possible, Harry Reid couldn't be pried away from it with a truckload of earmarks. On Friday, The Pride of the Democratic Party weighed in on General Patraeus:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid got personal, questioning Petraeus' credibility:
"He's made a number of statements over the years that have not proved to be factual," Reid said. "I have every belief that this good man, General Petraeus, will give us what he feels is the right thing to do in the report that is now not his report. It's President Bush's report."

So, a senator who bankrolls half his family on US Senate Pork, paid for by US taxpayers, is pronouncing moral judgements on a military man who's risked his life so that Reid can throw one more syncophantic log on his payroll fire? Am I the only one that thinks this is Democratic Buffoonery at it's most absurd?
Reid hungers for defeat as a crack whore hungers for a $10 trick. It's disgusting to watch. Even more so, it's a certainty that Reid the Meek would be leading the Democratic Whine Brigades should another terror attack hits the US.

He'll primp and skip in front of the cameras. "Why didn't we do more", he'll demand in front of the Running Dog Media. And the Peace Movement will march in support of anything they hope will defeat America: the country that's made it possible for them to march--thus giving meaning to otherwise unfulfilled, meaningless lives.

I expect the goofy, aimless Peace Movement to do their thing during times of war. Without the War in Iraq, they'd be nailing themselves to trees or hunger-striking for 'Rainforest Whales', or agonizing over whether they should have the mocha or the double latte.

And I expect MoveOn.org to attack America: it's what they do. If I were a billionaire, ala George Soros, I'd probably seek meaning to my life, too.

But to the men and women in the US Senate and Congress: laboring at comforting America's enemies in a time of war; slandering those who risk their lives defending this country; sacrificing the defense of the USA for partisan gain; to you I say:

"A particularly hot place in the inner ring of Hell eagerly awaits your wretched demise."

Video: Latest bin Laden Video Could be Made by DNC

The AP's Paul Haven summed up the latest Osama bin Laden video release thusly:

Osama bin Laden's latest message is a hodgepodge of anti-capitalist vitriol, impassioned Islamic evangelism and what can best be described as a twisted attempt at reconciliation: Join us, or we will kill you.

What strikes one is that Bin Laden's latest "YouTube Moment" could have been written by any of the Democratic Party candidates. Hard to tell Osama from Obama without a program. In fact, B.Hussein Obama's expressed aim to "bomb Pakistan" is cut from the same cloth as the Al-Quaida mastermind.

With a little post-editing, the video could be used as a DNC press release. And, it had none of the annoying hedging, denials, confirmations and flip-flops that accompany any of the Hillary Spin Corps clarifications: how her vote for the Iraqi War was really a vote against the war and one for affordable health care for ALL Americans.

Of course, someone from France was quick to point out

bin Laden was well aware that his reappearance on the world stage, looking fit and calm despite his years on the run, was itself a victory that went way beyond anything he actually said.

This came from Anne Giudicelli, a former French diplomat specializing in the Middle East who now runs the Paris-based consultancy Terrorisc. Leave it to the French to spin the video's pasty images of bin Laden into a glowing picture of health. In my mind, bin Laden looked only slightly more 'fit and calm' than one of those blow-up clowns kids are fond of bopping.

A homeland security advisor for President Bush had her own take:

"This is about the best he can do," Frances Fragos Townsend said about the fugitive al-Qaida leader whose terrorist network is believed to be regrouping in the lawless Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

She went on to add,

"This is a man on a run, from a cave, who's virtually impotent other than these tapes."

Despite this easy set-up, I refuse to include at this point another joke on bin Laden's notoriously microscopic manhood. I do have standards.

Which is more than many of the usual Mainstream Media Mouthpieces can say. Typical coverage ranged from 'uncritical' at best to 'breathlessly anxious'--much like the Goth chick down the street as she's waiting for her prom date.

(Washington)--Partying "like it's 1976", Democratic Party leaders rejoiced Friday at, what may be, their last chance to declare "defeat" in the War in Iraq.

Leading Democrats seized on early news of a forthcoming report from the Government Accountability Office that Iraq has met only three out of 18 congressionally mandated benchmarks for political and military progress as proof
that the president’s strategy in Iraq is failing to deliver and a new direction is needed to end the violence.

Interupting a heavy schedule of funneling federal earmarks to members of his family, Senate Leader Harry Reid said, "The forthcoming GAO report offers a clear assessment that a new direction in Iraq must begin immediately". Forgetting that the 'Troop Surge' was a new direction that Reid had previously called for, aides rushed to ensure that the senator had taken his daily Altzheimer's meds.

Stores in the DC area reported a run on champaign and fireworks, as Democrats scurried to celebrate US defeat before having to confront the much more disheartening news of possible victory later this month.

In other news about the Democratic drive to counter the more sobering victory reports, Washington, DC, police reported an "unusually heavy amount" of Democratic staff DUI (driving under influence) arrests Friday evening.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the report appears to be more negative than a July White House report on progress in Iraq, adding that President Bush is continuing to “stubbornly” refuse to change his strategy.

Citing the "lessons we painfully learned from Viet Nam", Democratic Congressional leader Nancy Pelosi Friday promised to "not quit in our struggle" to bring defeat in Iraq home to "every last man, woman and child in this great country of ours".

Democratic leaders announced late Friday evening that a candlelight vigil would be held next Tuesday to honor "past leaders of the Democratic Party, who held steady in their resolve not to let concepts of honor or victory deter us from our winning policies of defeat, both home and abroad."
