The many questionable associations of Barack Obama is the subject of the latest Red Planet Cartoon.

Front and center among those is Obama's "good friend", Bill Ayers. Ayers went from being a leader of the Weather Underground into writing grants for Barack Obama, community organizer.

This is the first time in American history that a man (Ayers) has parlayed bombing the Pentagon into having a presidential candidate announce from his home.

Millions of voters are unaware of this connection between Obama and Bill Ayers because the Mainstream Media, as usual, is more intent on "protecting" rather than "reporting" the news.

The problem of Barack Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb — designed to kill army officers in New Jersey — accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse. Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon. Ayers and Dohrn remain unrepentant for their terrorist past. Ayers was pictured in a 2001 article for Chicago magazine, stomping on an American flag, and told The New York Times just before 9/11 that the notion of the United States as a just and fair and decent place “makes me want to puke.” Although Obama actually launched his political career at an event at Ayers’s and Dohrn’s home, Obama has dismissed Ayers as just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” and “not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.” For his part, Ayers refuses to discuss his relationship with Obama.

Barack Obama's campaign--described as a 'juggernaut' less than four months ago, is now facing renewed questions, scrutiny and fund-raising challenges--and one commentator calls it a "meltdown".

Barack Obama knows it. The election he had in the bag is slipping away…

Democrats know something, and desperation is setting in. They have a novice campaigner who wanders off message. With every advantage in the primaries, Obama couldn’t win the big states — New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania — against Hillary Clinton, even when he got to define the rules for running against him. She could never risk alienating the base she’ll need in 2012; John McCain and Sarah Palin have no such constraints — hence the panic.

Less than four months ago, Joe Trippi, the string-puller for Howard Dean and John Edwards, said, "“Obama has been battered, beaten, screamed at, yelled at, kicked and - nothing, totally unflappable, his staff’s unflappable, no schisms. McCain has imploded twice. So you have to have more confidence in Obama’s ability to put a team together and keep it together.”

Joe Trippi, a Democratic consultant who pioneered some of the successful grassroots and internet techniques when he ran Howard Dean’s campaign in 2004, said that John McCain is already in “deep, deep trouble” because of a poor organisation and an anaemic fundraising total of about a fifth of the $500 million raised by Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton.

“Obama’s got the strongest organisation in history because of what he’s done with the internet and plugging volunteers into the paid organisers operation. McCain’s team is in a shambles. He has no organisation and no grassroots fundraising operation.”

If the election were only held among Democrat strategists and Mainstream Media pundits, they could have turned out the lights in May. However, there's the little matter of an election that involves millions upon millions of voters whom turn off politics until the last eight weeks before the election.

Actually, some people turn off politics and talking heads until the day before the election. Whatever the case, the spirits don't seem to be as high in the Obama organization these days.

RPC starts off with a little question from Thomas Sowell: Is the MSM 24/7 Palin attack frenzy a knock or a boost?

“The public’s right to know” is often invoked by the mainstream media, when what they are really talking about is the media’s right to smear those that they disagree with politically.

It is doubtful whether the public is half as obsessed with Sarah Palin’s daughter as CNN obviously is. Even before this particular story was hyped, CNN was among those in the media who had become something of a laughingstock for how they had gone overboard in favor of Barack Obama.

Increasingly, over the years, CNN has become less of a news reporting organization and more of a propaganda machine for liberal-left politics. Unfortunately, CNN is not alone.

It was not the newsworthiness of young Bristol Palin’s pregnancy that put it on the front page of the New York Times or interminably on the bottom of the screen at CNN. It was an opportunity for them to try to damage the political career of someone they disagreed with politically.

Most are not family heads making the minimum wage full-time all year. They are young single adults, teenagers living at home or spouses providing a second income. The average family income of a minimum-wage earner is $44,636, and 42% of these workers live with a parent or other relative. Only 15% of employees making the minimum wage are single earners with dependents. “A minimum wage increase today is a middle-class family entitlement,” says EPI Executive Director Rick Berman, “because that’s who’s working at the minimum wage in second and third jobs.”

Repeated studies have shown that minimum-wage increases are more likely to slow job creation than reduce poverty. A large share of the costs of these mandates are borne by the same low-income families the wage hike is supposed to help. Employers inevitably pass wage increases onto consumers as higher prices for goods and services, which erodes the spending power of all consumers but especially the poor. Employers also respond by hiring fewer unskilled workers, a disproportionate number of whom are teenagers and minorities.

Why would politicians vote for a minimum wage increase when it's been demonstrated, time-and-again that it hurts the very people it's supposed to help?

It's the ultimate liberal politician's wet dream.

It allows the liberal to proclaim that (s)he's helping the poor. It also fulfills the political need of "doing something"--whether that "something" is beneficial or not. Finally, it allows the liberal to feel good about themselves for being such a fine, outstanding person.

The facts be damned.

As a personal note: eons ago, while managing a fast food restaurant, the minimum wage was increased. That raised labor costs as well. Labor costs at our store were fixed as a percentage of sales the store did. The usual amount of money we had to work with for labor costs at that time, was roughly (if memory serves), $280 per week.

Though the minimum wage went up, the budget for labor costs did not. If the labor costs budget increased, then our prices had to increase, also. The upshot: we had to let one of our eight workers go and cut the hours of two others.

That is the real-life consequences of a rise in the minimum wage.

Anyone wondering why U.S. energy policy is so dysfunctional need only review Congress’s recent antics. Members have debated ideas ranging from suing OPEC to the Senate’s carbon tax-and-regulation monstrosity, to a windfall profits tax on oil companies, to new punishments for “price gouging” – everything except expanding domestic energy supplies.

Amid $135 oil, it ought to be an easy, bipartisan victory to lift the political restrictions on energy exploration and production. Record-high fuel costs are hitting consumers and business like a huge tax increase. Yet the U.S. remains one of the only countries in the world that chooses as a matter of policy to lock up its natural resources. The Chinese think we’re insane and self-destructive, while the Saudis laugh all the way to the bank…

Our only comment is that "gasbags" is too nice a term for the economically-illiterate buffoons in Congress who restrict supply and castigate oil companies who won't give their products away.

While eco-warriors are preaching the many ill-effects that humans have on Mother Earth, RPC demonstrates that Earth Firsters might have too many trees in front of them to see a barren, Western Civ forest.

Around the time that President Kennedy went to Germany and gave his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, Europe represented 12.5 percent of the world’s population. Today it is 7.2 percent, and if current trends continue, by 2050 only 5 percent of the world will be European.

As Mark Steyn, the Paul Revere of Western Demographic Decline, points out in recent Wall Street Journal article, It's the Demography, Stupid, "In 1970, the developed world had twice as big a share of the global population as the Muslim world: 30% to 15%. By 2000, they were the same: each had about 20%."

Can these trends continue for another 30 years without having consequences? Europe by the end of this century will be a continent after the neutron bomb: The grand buildings will still be standing, but the people who built them will be gone. We are living through a remarkable period: the self-extinction of the races who, for good or ill, shaped the modern world.

Though Steyn is best-known for his chronicling the abysmally-low fertility rates of Western Europe in 2005's best-seller, America Alone, he was not the first.

Phillip Longman's 2004 article for Foreign Affairs, The Global Baby Bust, put the problem in front of many readers for the first time. In it, Longman documents falling fertility, not only in Europe, but also other countries traditionally associated with high birth rates.

By some estimates, the world's fertility will fall below replacement levels by 2050, if present trends continue.

Which ought to send Al Gore into a fit of ecstasy: with less drivers, there will be less pollution from less cars.

And less people to notice any difference.

If you're an Islamist, it's time for Plan B.

Islamists aren't dummies: even as al-Qaida is destroyed on the battlefield, those determined to rule the world using Islam as their vehicle, prove to be adaptive adepts.

Those who kill in the name of Allah are stealthily using their enemies' system of freedom against them. In Canada, it's filing charges against best-selling author, Mark Steyn with the Human Rights Tribunal. In the U.K., radical Islamists, allied with the multicultural/PC-for-lunch-bunch is slowly grinding down a thousand years of English law and tradition.

In America, a healthy Islamist grievance industry--headed by CAIR--and gaming the victimization bureaucracy are two prongs of a three-tined fork of attack. What's the third?

That would be the academic jihad: using a mushy multicultural education establishment and the means of academia to further cultural ends.

It turns out that Western liberal democracies can be subverted without firing a shot.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the educational realm. Islamists have taken what’s come to be known as the “soft jihad” into America’s classrooms and children in K-12 are the first casualties. Whether it is textbooks, curriculum, classroom exercises, film screenings, speakers or teacher training, public education in America is under assault…

The Chronicle's Stillwell goes on to list a representative sample:

* Last month, students at Friendswood Junior High in Houston were required to attend an “Islamic Awareness” presentation during class time allotted for physical education. The presentation involved two representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization with a record of Islamist statements and terrorism convictions. According to students, they were taught that “there is one God, his name is Allah” and that “Adam, Noah and Jesus are prophets.”

* Earlier this year at Lake Brantley High School in Seminole County, Fla., speakers from the Academy for Learning Islam gave a presentation to students about “cultural diversity” that extended to a detailed discussion of the Quran and Islam. The school neither screened the ALI speakers nor notified parents.

If the speakers in the examples above had been fundamentalist Christians, the ACLU would have set a new land-speed record for filing a lawsuit over separation of church and state.



Stillwell continues:

* As reported by the Cabinet Press, a school project last year at Amherst Middle School transformed “the quaint colonial town of Amherst, N.H., into a Saudi Arabian Bedouin tent community.” Male and female students were segregated, with the girls hosting “hijab and veil stations” and handing out the oppressive head-to-toe black garment known as the abaya to female guests. Meanwhile, the boys hosted food and Arabic dancing stations because, as explained in the article, “the traditions of Saudi Arabia at this time prevent women from participating in these public roles.”

* Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, a charter school in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., came under recent scrutiny after Minneapolis Star-Tribune columnist Katherine Kersten brought to light concerns about public funding for its overtly religious curriculum. The school is housed in the Muslim American Society’s (the American branch of the Egyptian Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood) Minnesota building, alongside a mosque, and the daily routine includes prayer, ritual washing, halal food preparation and an after-school “Islamic studies” program.

Protesting parents are usually made out to be benighted primitives, standing in the way of their children's education by their enlightened betters.

The National Educational Association, the largest teachers' union, has long been a hotbed of Leftist cant. Apparently, many of their members have joined hands with Islamists, bent on changing the cultural landscape of America through educational indoctrination.

The Islamists couldn't have picked better tools for their subversive mission.

Locally-controlled school boards and parents who are aware are two roadblocks in this process, though the federalization of education continues to strip power away from both.

Individuals sounding the alarm are another.

Mark Steyn's America Alone puts it in stark terms: Europe is going out of business.

Due to low fertility rates which no country or civilization has previously recovered from, the continent of Europe, where Christianity was nourished and flowered will become Eurabia--with a majority Muslim population--by the end of this century.

Steyn's conclusion?

Watch for the coming of civil war or worse to most of Europe; as early as the middle of the next decade. The beginnings of this prediction have already begun taking shape: nightly burning and rioting in Muslim-controlled sections of France and the formation and reactions of nativist political parties are only the start.

The similarities between preachers extreme Jeremiah Wright and Fred Phelps is the subject of Red Planet Cartoons "Preach It, Jeremiah!". The cartoon made its debut last month when Jeremiah Wright first came under the media spotlight.

Many readers by now are familiar with the particular tone and content of Jeremiah Wright's sermons--long on denunciation, grievances, and blame--but RPC makes a novel point that's fresh today: the similarities between Wright and Fred Phelps.

Both bring preach hate in a house of worship full of those looking for the love of their God.

Obama: Appeasing Islamists Like "Gasoline on a Fire"

Once potential voters get beyond the Barack Obama's fuzzy rhetorical mantra of "Change!", the picture of what an Obama "change" might look like begins to materialize.

Red Planet Cartoons latest is one such picture. It deals with Obama's plan--or rather, non-plan--for dealing with al Qaida, terrorists and Iraq.

RPC has an excerpt from the Washington Time's Donald Lambro's Exposing a Blind Spot:

Sen. John McCain had one goal in mind when his turn came to question Gen. David Petraeus about the Iraq war: to show Sen. Barack Obama didn’t understand the dire threat al Qaeda posed to that country’s survival…

Though he never mentioned the Democratic presidential front-runner by name, Mr. McCain wanted to dismantle one of Mr. Obama’s chief contentions regarding the war: that there is no serious al Qaeda threat in Iraq in terms of a military infrastructure with command centers, bases, etc., and it is time to begin a full withdrawal of all combat forces there.

Mr. Obama has from the beginning maintained that al Qaeda was not in Iraq before the U.S. invasion and only entered the country after Saddam Hussein’s regime was toppled. The Illinois senator’s argument essentially maintains that the U.S. presence in Iraq is the sole cause of the presence of al Qaeda in the country.

The House approved $18 billion in new taxes on the largest oil companies Wednesday [Feb. 27] as Democrats cited record oil prices and rising gasoline costs in a time of economic troubles.

As detailed in last week's DBKP post, "Democrats Pass Largest Tax Hike in History", Democrats--and some Republicans--think you can tax a country into prosperity.

Red Planet demonstrates the sheer asininity of this idea by providing plenty of info.

One has to wonder: if taxing the oil companies an extra $18 billion is such a good idea, why not tax them twice that? Or three times the amount?

Of course, upon hearing these suggestions, there are readers on the Left who would smack the side of their heads and yell, "Brilliant!"

Apparently, some in the Democrat-controlled House, also.

They're not done reaching into your wallet yet. Rep. Dingell (D-MI) is hell-bent on adding 50 cents to the price of every gallon of gas sold. DBKP posted "Democrat Dingell Wants 50-cent Tax Increase on Gasoline" less than two weeks ago.

Red Planet gives Thomas Sowell the floor for a rebuttal of this economic nonsense and winds up with links to a plethora of related articles.

Government Gets Rich off of High Gas Prices

Politicians will try anything, but they have yet to repeal the laws of supply and demand. That, in the nutshell, is the cause of rising gasoline prices.

Red Planet Cartoons provided a much-needed public service several days ago by reposting the above cartoon from 2007, "Dissecting Gas Prices". Along with the great graphic, RPC also provides a little info for the economically-challenged.

Corporate profits receive a lot of media attention, but what receives considerably less attention are the corporate taxes paid on corporate profits. Do a Google search for “Exxon profits” and you’ll get about 8,000 hits. Now try “Exxon taxes” and you’ll get a little more than 300 hits. That’s a ratio of about 33 to 1.

I’m pretty sure that Exxon’s tax payment in 2007 of $30 billion (that’s $30,000,000,000) is a record, exceeding the $28 billion it paid last year.

It goes on to say that "Exxon alone paid more taxes than the bottom 50% of U.S. taxpayers"--that's 65,000,000 million taxpayers.

Will the Democrats in the House pass a resolution praising Exxon and it's shareholders for their great contributions to the U.S. budget?

Believe that one and there's some Buddhist fund-raisers we'd like you to attend.

Government at the state and federal levels profit from high gas prices more than oil companies. This is highlighted in California, where the high gas prices might be discouraging drivers, but are making the tax counters' eyes light up in delight--to the tune of $8 billion dollars more than expected.

While motorists fume over the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, state officials say the extra sales tax revenue from high prices at the pump is proving to be a boon as California faces an $8 billion budget deficit.

And are the California lawmakers thinking of rebating some of this windfall back to the taxpayers?

Are you kidding? They're fighting over how to spend it.

What Good is Health Care if You're Dead?


Red Planet Cartoons, one of the finest purveyors of right cartoons, is spot on with their latest offering, "Priorities".

They start out with a quote from Sen. Lindsay Graham:

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement on comments by Senators Hillary Clinton (D-New York) and Barack Obama (D-Illinois).

“Senator Clinton made an interesting statement last night. She said, “We’re ready to end the war in Iraq and win the war in Afghanistan.” No one doubts we must win in Afghanistan, the country that gave rise to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. But Senator Clinton’s Iraq statement about “ending” the Iraq war was quite troubling.

"Troubling" is Senator-speak for "Are you kidding me?"

RPC adds to the mix with a post from Little Green Footballs, "Islamic States Seek World Freedom Curbs"--just for emphasis--and winds up with "Steve King is Right...Al-Qaeda Will Celebrate If Obama Wins-- Like They Did Last Time".

Included is this King quote: "Islamists “will be dancing in the streets” if Obama is elected president."

A thorough look at how the rest of the world sees our presidential elections and the non-serious posturing of a couple of the candidates.

"Priorities" asks a good question: What good is health care if you're dead?

National Security at the Border

Red Planet Cartoons has excellent commentary on the big picture concerning the sealing of the U.S. southern border, "National Security at the Border".

We couldn't agree more.

Opponents of increased security, a border fence and a crack-down on those who sneak across the border miss this point entirely.

Their arguments fall into two categories: "it won't work" and "you're a racist".

Neither is particularly convincing--outside of the cocktail parties attended by border security opponents.

Red Planet Cartoons starts out with a reprise of Robert Spencer's National Security at the Border:

Three Afghanis were arrested Wednesday at an international airport in India’s Kerala state for flying with forged Mexican passports…

The warnings have been coming in for years. In June 2004, border patrol agents arrested 77 “Middle Eastern” men attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.

As usual, Red Planet provides a Spencer video and more links to relevant information on this highly important--and one hopes, not highly-explosive--subject.

By chance, DBKP did two border security stories this week: "Illegal Immigration, The Big Lie: Eisenhower Stopped Border Crossings COLD" and "FISA Battle Continues While Southern Border Remains Open".

The latter was written almost at the same time as the Red Planet Cartoon above. It's an issue that's not going away.

Red Planet Salute: Our Five Favorite RP Cartoons

It was rendered by our favorite cartoonist, Yogi at Red Planet Cartoons. Yogi went above and beyond the call of duty to get our header all shipshape for our opening of our new site.

Well, we're finally here--10 weeks after we got the site and header.

Real life delayed our move, but better late than never!

At any rate, we're so pleased with it, we wanted to show off some of RP's past cartoons and themes. We were gonna do our three favorites, but trying to make a choice was so hard, we decided on four--then five.

After looking at a few, you'll see why it was so hard for us to choose which ones we liked best.

So, without further delay are our next four favorites.

"Democrats, Then and Now" was in a neck-and-neck race with several Ahmadinejad cartoons for our favoritess; but "Democrats" made a point that isn't made nearly enough: there are some people who expect others to buy them things.

Some of these people are called 'gold-diggers', others are called 'liberals.'




And this last one, a Memorial Day tribute, we'll let the reader supply his own narrative. "Memorial Day 2007"

Democrat Economics 101: The Prosperity Killers

With all the moving, we don't want to forget the good folks over at Red Planet Cartoons. The latest RP theme is "The Prosperity Killers".

[T]he Democratic presidential candidates are presenting economic plans that are chock-full of ideas that reduce economic growth, rather than expanding it.

Of course, they know that.

They're also betting that they can hoodwink enough suckers to make it worth their political while. Rhetoric is the politician's weapon of choice.

Whenever a politician starts talking about "socking it to the rich", hold on to your wallet. One thing you'll never hear at a Clinton or Obama rally is how the top 5% wealthiest Americans pay over 50% of the taxes.

That wouldn't piss off any of their supporters.

It's a whole lot easier to fire up the troops if they're upset.

When Democrats talk about "soaking the rich", it always seems that working stiffs are the ones who end up getting wet.

As usual, Red Planet has some great links to back up the cartoon at the top of the post.

"The Prosperity Killers" is just a reminder of the old saying: TANSTAAFL.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

Oblivious: When National Security Expires

The good folks over at Red Planet Cartoons have a nice presentation on the expiration of the Protect America Act.

There's the always-reliable Red Planet cartoon--reproduced above--along with an excerpt from "Lawyers Fiddle, America Burns".

The Protect America Act - a modernization of the three-decade old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which authorizes intercepts of foreign communications - has expired.

Before departing on a 10-day recess, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats Thursday refused to vote on a reauthorization of the law - even though it passed by a huge bipartisan majority in the Senate earlier in the week.

However, House Democrats did find time to issue contempt-of-Congress citations to White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former counsel Harriet Miers. The citations relate to the overblown fired-federal-prosecutors “scandal” of a year ago.

And, as always, RP has a nice collection of links for anyone wanting to read a cross-section of facts and opinions on the issue.

When the Protect America Act expired, we went back to the same situation we were in before 9/11.

Guess who will yell the loudest and point fingers first the next time terrorists get through our defenses?

You go to the head of the class if you answered "Nancy Pelosi", "Jack 'The Marines are Killers' Murtha", or "Harry Reid".

Total Collapse: Of al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Democrats and MSM in the US

Red Planet Cartoons takes a look at the total collapse of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

It was only 5 months ago that John Murtha, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats were assuring their buddies in the Mainstream Media that General Petraeus was a "liar" and "Bush's stooge" for the cautiously optimistic report on the success of the surge of U.S. troops.

And readers and viewers--the few that are left--of the MSM mouthpieces were treated to a summer-long Democrat PR blizzard about the surge's "failure".

On June 6, 2007: Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that his Iraq troop "surge" policy was a failure.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over Iraq by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.

"As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results," the two leaders wrote.

Of course, the Mainstream Media proved their reliable selves: reliably left in their reporting; unreliable when it came to telling Americans the truth in the news. It is the primary reason that only 19% trust the Mainstream Media to report the news straight.

A better rating than the Democrat-controlled Congress, to be sure, but still pathetic. It's one reason that, increasingly, people search the Internet for their news instead of buying the NY Times or tuning into CBS Evening News.

Those who trusted the MSM last summer for the truth about how the surge was going had to be baffled by the news of its success. This included most MSM editors and reporters.

From Slate's "Surge Failure" by Ryan Grim--which is a roundup of what the MSM wing of the DNC was saying on June 4, 2007:

The "surge" isn't working in Iraq, the New York Times reports in its lead story. The Washington Post leads with details of a car crash in which a driver barreled through a crowd, injuring dozens. The Los Angeles Times' lead story also focuses on Iraq, highlighting Democratic efforts to keep pressure on congressional Republicans over the summer.

Salon on Feb 8, 2007: "... As the president and Republicans continue to hype the surge -- and ... about it -- Bush's own war planners are preparing for failure in Iraq."

Google "failure of the surge" and over 583,000 references appear: some left wing blog posts, to be sure, but story after story appeared in the MSM under the theme.

Red Planet reminds us in "Total Collapse" what really happened:

Al-Qaeda in Iraq faces an “extraordinary crisis”. Last year’s mass defection of ordinary Sunnis from al-Qaeda to the US military “created panic, fear and the unwillingness to fight”. The terrorist group’s security structure suffered “total collapse”.

These are the words not of al-Qaeda’s enemies but of one of its own leaders in Anbar province — once the group’s stronghold. They were set down last summer in a 39-page letter seized during a US raid on an al-Qaeda base near Samarra in November.

Google "success of the surge" and perhaps, one of every ten references are of a MSM story, many similar to the title of TIME magazine's piece, "The Fleeting Success of the Surge" in December 2007.

Red Planet also has a nice collection of links on the real story of the surge--not the one frantically pedaled by the MSM. Included in the Red Planet collection is one on "Iraqis celebrate the success of the surge".

"Total Collapse" at Red Planet Cartoons is a nice story on the success of the U.S. military--in spite of the Democrat party and the Mainstream Media.

Indeed, if one saw a story bearing the headline, "Total Collapse", in the MSM, the subject matter would mostly likely be the U.S. Marines.
