Southern Border Security Should be Part of FISA Bill



There's a thought-provoking article at the National Republican Congressional Committee website on the continuing FISA battle in the House.

Our position is that FISA should be passed, but that as long as the southern U.S. border is an open door, why bother?

House Republicans could make a much more convincing argument if the porous southern border was attended to at the same time.

This article does hold the House Democrats' feet to the fire on the expired terrorist surveillance program.

The FISA Fight Continues

It was over three weeks ago that House Democrats allowed the terrorist surveillance program to expire, and in the dead of the night on February 16, 2008, every single American became less safe. To make matters worse, the following week the House of Representatives skipped town for a ten-day vacation, leaving the security of our nation in limbo.

Since then, Democrats have maneuvered through desperate stall tactics to block the Protect America Act, knowing that it would pass with overwhelming bipartisan support like the Senate bill did earlier in February, by a vote of 68-29. Every member of the Blue Dog Coalition, which consists of 21 moderate House Democrats wrote to House Speaker Pelosi and said "the consequences of not passing such a measure could place our national security at undue risk" (Bloomberg, 2/13/08).

Why do the House Democrats want to keep our intelligence community weak? The answer is quite simple - many House Democrats have received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions by the trial lawyer lobby, and Democrats are working hard to prolong their boon to trial lawyers, who are tying up the court system with frivolous lawsuits against telecommunications companies who carried out their patriotic duty to assist in terrorist surveillance in the wake of September 11th.

It is unconscionable that the House Democrat Leadership would play politics with our national security. The Protect America Act expired almost a month ago and has hindered our ability to intercept conversations between those linked to suspected terrorist networks.

How long will House Democrats continue to leave our national security at risk by failing to pass the critical terrorist surveillance program that expired weeks ago? Terrorist surveillance is needed.

With an open southern border that the government seems determined NOT to close, however, some Americans would question the expanded powers of FISA. Closing the southern border should be the number one priority of every House member sponsoring FISA.

It makes no sense to grant government increased surveillance powers in the name of protecting Americans against terrorists, when terrorists can waltz across the Mexican border at will.

Surveillance of those doing the surveillance is also needed to ensure that ordinary Americans are not caught up in the increased power of government.

As long as the government doesn't go fishing or use the information collected against non-terrorist Americans, then FISA should be passed with all due speed.

And building the southern fence should be part of this bill.

Conflicting reports over whether the Vatican is planning to step up its efforts to combat Satan has Catholics and Devil Worshipers alike confused.

The Daily Mail earlier reported that the Pope had commanded a surge of exorcists to combat an alarming rise in the Occult--Satanism.

The Pope has ordered his bishops to set up exorcism squads to tackle the rise of Satanism.

Vatican chiefs are concerned at what they see as an increased interest in the occult.

They have introduced courses for priests to combat what they call the most extreme form of "Godlessness."

Each bishop is to be told to have in his diocese a number of priests trained to fight demonic possession.

The Vatican spokesman for the exorcists laid out the Pope's strategy and was relieved that Satan was finally going to be faced head-on by those best suited to battle Lucifer and his minions.

The initiative was revealed by 82-year-old Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican "exorcistinchief," to the online Catholic news service Petrus.

"Thanks be to God, we have a Pope who has decided to fight the Devil head-on," he said.

"Too many bishops are not taking this seriously and are not delegating their priests in the fight against the Devil. You have to hunt high and low for a properly trained exorcist.

"Thankfully, Benedict XVI believes in the existence and danger of evil - going back to the time he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith." The CDF is the oldest Vatican department and was headed by Benedict from 1982, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, until he became Pope in 2005.

Father Amorth said that during his time at the department Benedict had not lost the chance to warn humanity of the risk from the Devil.

Believers in Beelzebub had cause for concern.

But a later report by UPI indicates that the Pope either was misquoted or had second thoughts about taking on the Prince of Darkness.

The Vatican is denying reports it plans to install more exorcists around the world so possessed people can get help quickly.

"Pope Benedict XVI has no intention of ordering local bishops to bring in garrisons of exorcists to fight demonic possession,'' Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told reporters in Rome Friday.

On Thursday, the Roman Catholic Web site Petrus said the pope planned to install more exorcists in every diocese next year and reintroduce a prayer during mass to St. Michael the Archangel, believed to be the prime protector against evil, The Telegraph in Britain reported Saturday.

Paolo Scarafoni, a priest at Vatican University who teaches how to recognize and expel Satan, said exorcists increasingly are in demand because devil worship has become so common, reported ANSA, the Italian news agency. "Priests are being bombarded," Scarafoni told ANSA.

This left DBKP not only confused, but upset. Quite a large sum had already been wagered on the Pope at 3-2.

But then, other events gripped our attention. DBKP's RidesAPaleHorse entered into a political den of inequity and returned with these stunning pictures of a political exorcism involving members of the Democrat Party.

Revealed here for the first time are photos which RAPH was able to bring back, at great personal risk, of an authentic political exorcism.

A political exorcism is a rare event in America and this is believed to be the first time an exorcism of political evil had ever been captured on film.





We're kinda hoping for at least a Pulitzer.

To Publish or Not to Publish?

Names have been named in the John McCain Storying Quashing Story.

The latest report from Drudge details a heated media battle, not only between Senator John McCain and the New York Times over publishing a story about "special treatment" to a lobbyist, but also, a battle within the Times itself.

The decisions being made are said to frustrate certain Times staff.

Could one of the frustrated staff have been responsible for the leak to Drudge?

Somebody talked.

The latest on the McCain Quashing incident from the Drudge Report.

Just weeks away from a possible surprise victory in the primaries, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz has been waging a ferocious behind the scenes battle with the NEW YORK TIMES, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense against charges of giving special treatment to a lobbyist!

McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

The paper's Jim Rutenberg has been leading the investigation and is described as beyond frustrated with McCain's aggressive and angry efforts to stop any and all publication.

Who was the lobbyist in question?

What did the "special treatment" consist of?

Drudge reports of a battle between the paper's Jim Rutenberg and a reporter working on the McCain story and Times' editor, Bill Keller.

The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation.

The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.

Rutenberg, along with reporter David Kirkpatrick, has been developing the story for the last 6 weeks.

Rutenberg had hoped to break the story before the Christmas holiday, sources reveal, but editor Keller expressed serious reservations about journalism ethics and issuing a damaging story so close to an election.

McCain campaign officials Rick Davis, Charlie Black and Mark Salter are also said to have met with the NEW YORK TIMES in an effort to halt publication.

Drudge has "Developing" on the story, so expect to see more added to the McCain-Times story soon.

Baby Grace, Riley Sawyers: He Says, She Says Battle Begins

Clyde Zeigler's attorney says he's innocent

The opening salvo was launched a few minutes ago in what is expected to be a fight to the death between Kimberly Trenor and Clyde Zeigler II.

The mother and stepfather of Riley Sawyers, until recently only known to the world as "Baby Grace" began a few minutes ago when Zeigler's attorney, Neal Davis III, issued a statement saying that Zeigler "is positively not guilty of the offense for which he stands charged".

The battle begins between the two people present when 2-year-old Riley Sawyers was savagely beaten to death in July.

It's a fight to death as Zeigler and Trenor were both indicted by a Texas grand jury yesterday in the savage beating death of 2-year-old Riley Sawyers, then dumping her body in Galveston Bay.

The storage container containing the body was found by a fisherman after it washed up on a sandbar a little over 6 weeks ago.

Both Zeigler and Trenor could face the death penalty in Texas, if convicted.

Trenor had previously told reporters that Zeigler 'had lost control while disciplining Riley'.

An attorney for the stepfather accused of killing the toddler known as 'Baby Grace' said Thursday that his client didn't kill the girl, and blamed her mother for mischaracterizing what happened.

Kimberly Dawn Trenor unfairly pinned the blame for 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyer's death on her husband, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, the attorney said.

"The death of this innocent child, however, was absolutely not caused by any action attributed to my client," Neal Davis III said in a statement.

Trenor's attorney, Tommy Stickler Jr., wasn't immediately available for comment, his secretary said.

The couple was charged Wednesday with capital murder and tampering with evidence, and could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole if convicted.

Trenor told Galveston County authorities that she and her husband of less than two months beat the girl with leather belts, held her head underwater in a bathtub and threw her across a room, her head slamming into a tile floor. She said they kept her body in a shed for one to two months before dumping it in the bay.

Trenor's attorney told reporters shortly after the two were arrested that Zeigler had lost control while disciplining Riley for failing to say "please" and "yes sir."

Riley Sawyers' life lasted 2 years

Davis initially declined to comment on Trenor's account beyond saying it wasn't credible. But on Thursday, he released a statement saying her "misstatements" led to Wednesday's indictment.

Zeigler "is positively not guilty of the offense for which he stands charged," Davis added.

So now the battle of who actually killed the little 2-year-old begins.

Expect a statement from Trenor's attorney in the very near future.

Cornered by the law, Clyde Zeigler and Kimberly Trenor will both point fingers at the other as they battle to stay alive.

A battle that little Riley Sawyers lost in July.
