Pet Goth Girl Saga Continues

The story of another Brave Group--The Goths-- "Who Only Just Want to Be Different". And they are treated exactly that way, but decide to opt out for the easy living lifestyle of the "The Young and The Victimized".

We wrote last week about a lonely boy and his pet Goth chick, whom he led around on a leash.

She got thrown off a bus in England and was upset about being treated like, well, a pet.

The pet Goth in question, 19-year-old Tasha Maltby, pictured above, has become quite strident about those who dare treat her like a pet.

"It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime," Maltby said recently about the bus episode.

So, she was treated like a pet. Pets aren't allowed on the bus--unless they're registered seeing eye dogs.

What does Maltby think about that?

"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life."

When Maltby was told she wasn't to be allowed on the bus on her leash, she acted in an almost animal-like way.

"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."

Ms. Maltby and her "owner" are both on welfare.John East, of Poole, England, after reading the story in the Daily Mail, asked a question likely to be on many a mind.

"Why are these two perfectly healthy looking people on benefits, they should both be working as according to our wonderful PM there are plenty of Employment opportunity's available."

We don't want to get too far into the politics of the moment in England--that's a job for the European Union, not us.

It does seem that the Goth culture in England may be an embattled one, at least in the minds of its adherents.

The haunting plaints from a Goth under siege.

Fellow goth Susan Walker, of Marshall Street, Mirfield, said rude comments from people eventually made her give up her usual choice of dress in public.

But she said as a mark of solidarity with Mr Graves and Miss Maltby, she would start to dress like a goth again.

Mrs Walker, 54, said: "I moved here four years ago after getting wed to a local guy, and had quite a culture shock. I am originally from Whitby, the spiritual home of all goths worldwide. Nobody bats an eyelid when you are seen in the Co-op shopping, fully 'gothed-up', it is an everyday occurrence."

Mrs Walker said after moving to Mirfield, she was shocked to hear people calling her a devil-worshipper. She said she tried to set up a social club for goths in Mirfield but it was disbanded because members were getting hassled too much at meetings.

And she eventually got so sick of people's rude reactions to her appearance that she started to dress more conventionally.

She said: "After six months of living here, I too suffered black looks and nasty comments and so stopped wearing my goth clothes in order to fit in.

"This will happen no longer. From this day forth, I will be seen in my normal clothes – goth – in support of Dani and Tasha. I ask any other 'closet' goths to do the same."

She said a typical outfit she now wears to the shops includes purple Doc Marten boots decorated with cobwebs, a skirt which is long at the back and short at the front, and black or purple tights.

Then Walker uncorked a quote which makes one stop and ponder everything she previously said.

"No way are we freaks or dogs. We are ordinary people who just wish to be individuals and not follow the sheep."

Fair enough.

But when people comment on Susan Walker's method of showing she's an individual and not one of the sheep, isn't it a bit cheeky to take offense when they notice?

Susan wants all of the credit and adrenaline of being a trailblazer--with a safety net.

If she's going to swim against the tide, she shouldn't expect it to be easy.

If it's easy she wants, she should swim with the tide or float along. Which she decided to do.

Also, if she ever decides to swim against the tide again, here's a tip.

Keep your mouth shut.

Or she'll get a mouthful of water for her troubles, as well as not likely reach her goal.

Whatever that may be

We were over at Anna's Clue Tank and saw this story about some Goth chick being led around on a leash.

Okay, nothing too far out of the ordinary there: Goth chicks just wanna have fun and all that.

But this Goth chick said that she was some guy's "pet".

Okay, different strokes for different folks, as they used to say in the Jimmy Carter, whacked-out '70s. Whatever.

And then, the bus company kicked her off the bus she was riding on in London.

Okay, that's easy to figure: most public transportation companies in the U.S. have rules about pets riding the buses, right?

But then, the Goth chick gets upset at being treated like the "pet" she wants to be. So the bus company does what any business operating in the modern world of the hair-trigger uber-offended would do: it apologizes for treating her like a pet.

What does the Goth chick say?

"I am a pet," she told the Daily Mail. "I generally act animal-like and I lead a really easy life.

So what kind of apology would the bus company offer her?

"Sorry for treating you like you--like the pet you said you were?"

Anna had this to say, as a way of introducing said story.

At various anime conventions I have seen people leading other people around on leashes, even one girl leading a boy on a leash. Since I was at conventions and the people were in costume, I merely thought they were acting out some role and never thought too hard on it.

A British bus company has apologized to a girl who is led around on a leash by her boyfriend and describes herself as a human pet after one of its drivers threw her off a bus.

Tasha Maltby, 19, told British newspapers she was the "pet" of her 25-year-old fiance Dani Graves.

Pictures showed her dressed in black Gothic-style clothing with silver buckles on a silver chain -- which the driver of a bus from the firm Arriva took exception to.

She told the Daily Mail newspaper Wednesday she was thrown off and told: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."

Arriva would not comment on specifics but said it apologized if the couple felt they had been discriminated against. It added, however, that the driver was worried about safety and the company told Maltby to take the leash off in the future.



"We have spoken to the driver who has talked about health and safety," a spokesman said. "Should she be attached to a chain and something happens on the bus, that could be dangerous. All we are saying is that she is very welcome to use the buses but not when she is on her lead."

Seems reasonable to us. What's a Goth chick to do?

Maltby -- who lives on state benefits and got engaged in November -- said her choice of lifestyle might seem unusual but was harmless.

"I am a pet," she told the Daily Mail. "I generally act animal-like and I lead a really easy life. I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."

The story didn't specify what type of pet Ms. Maltby is supposed to be. Perhaps, a pet Goth chick.

We say, "live and let live".

We also say, "make sure she's housebroken".

Texas Woman Thrown Off Bus for Reading Bible to Her Kids

Suggested reading list for the Bus Company might include the U.S. Constitution



There was a time when being the wrong color got a person assigned to the back of the bus.

Now, in Ft. Worth TX, reading the wrong book will get a person kicked completely off the bus.

Right before New Year's Eve, a woman boarded the public bus in Ft. Worth TX with her children to attend church. On the way, she took out her Bible and was reading to her children when the bus driver pulled the bus over and kicked her and her children off the bus.

"What kind of person pulls over public transportation and kicks out a mother and her children for reading their Bible on the way to church?" said Kelly Shackelford, Chief Counsel for Liberty Legal Institute, the legal organization representing Christine Lutz. "Freedom of religion exists on public transportation just like anywhere else."

Christine Lutz was reading the Bible to her children while on the way to church when the bus driver told her to stop. Mrs. Lutz refused, and was forced to leave the bus. The family was escorted off the bus and into a supervisor's van, which took the family to church.

"This is outrageous religious hostility," said Shackelford. "It also shows how far some government officials have slipped in their understanding of our Constitution and the most basic freedoms we all share."

A Ft. Worth transit system spokesman couldn't be reached for comment.

Christine Lutz is demanding an apology letter from Fort Worth's transit system. Liberty Legal Institute is also demanding that a letter be distributed to all drivers, informing them that individuals have the freedom to read the Bible while riding the public bus.

Anyone riding a public bus is familiar with the noise levels.

According to Nicole Hays, of Liberty Legal Institute, the bus company is apparently trying to backtrack and is now saying the bus driver kicked Lutz off the bus for "reading too loudly".

Will decibel meters be installed on the buses?

From all reports, the bus driver did not ask the mother to quiet down; he asked her to quit reading altogether.

One wonders at the publicity this case might have received had the mother been reading to her children from the Koran.

It's also wondered if it would have been more helpful if Christine Lutz had been reading from a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
