SPAM Plant Workers Feast on Overtime

The NY Times discovers that SPAM is making a comeback: Spam Turns Serious and Hormel Turns Out More

Austin, MN-The economy is in tatters and, for millions of people, the future is uncertain. But for some employees at the Hormel Foods Corporation plant here, times have never been better. They are working at a furious pace and piling up all the overtime they want.

The workers make Spam, perhaps the emblematic hard-times food in the American pantry.

As RidesAPaleHorse observes, "Spam makes a comeback (as if it ever really went away)."

Blog Shutdowns: Spam Attacks Came from barackobama.com IP Addresses

Explain this Away
Spam Attack came from barackobama.com

Were There More?

At least one of the attacks in the latest wave of blog shutdowns this past week came from IPs assigned to barackobama.com.

We have reported twice in the last two weeks about the attacks on anti-Obama websites. ["Google, Blogger, Obama: Obamanation Shut Down My Blog!"]] & [BabbaZee's "Anti-Obama Blogs Shut Down by Google, Obamabots"]

Speculation on who was behind the attacks has ranged from "Obama supporters" to "it's no one, just a glitch" "to it's a browser problem".

A few liberal blogs and Instapundit have said there is no connection between this latest wave of blog shutdowns and the Obama camp.

Speculation can now be set aside--at least, in one instance.

We came across this post by MacRanger at MacsMind [Macsmind Hacking UPDATE] yesterday, where Mac presents "one fact that can’t be explained away".

On July 22-25 Macsmind was DOS’d (Denial of Service) that originated from three IP addresses that are assigned to Barack Obama’s website. This isn’t a theory but was confirmed via law enforcement through an inspection of the site logs from those dates. The IP address in question; 66.39.4.254 66.39.143.229 216.146.206.181, are all registered via “Go Daddy” under the name barackobama.com.

On those dates, beginning at At 5:48PM Central on the 22nd, the hosted server that contained our site was hit by a 1.6 gigabyte flood of illegitimate traffic. The attacks never abated and only stopped when our host provider took us off line.

Spam traffic originating from three IPs assigned to the barackobama.com would seem to be compelling evidence to the disinterested reader. We haven't been able to reach MacRanger yet, but the real question isn't "Is the Obama camp involved in this?"

It's "Will this story be publicized?"

MacsMind finishes with

Speculation is one thing, but facts are another. This time however we’ve taken protective measures to prevent this from happening again. Additionally the investigation will continue and appropriate interstate authorities have been notified.

Texas Hill Country [] makes the comment, "Translation: People using computers at the Barack Obama Campaign are using them to systematically hack, attack and shut down websites that don’t agree with him. This is so messed up. It’s some Orewellian type business and it’s stuff like this that makes Obama scary as hell…"

As DBKP's Blogger site was locked down Thursday night by Blogger for being a spam site, we can attest that it was not a problem with our browser that prevented us from posting there for approximately 36 hours.

It wasn't a browser problem that caused the following message to appear when trying to post at our DBKP Blogger site.

Site Meter didn't post the two messages and lock down our blogs.

One question: "Did the spam messages that shut down DBKP@Blogger originate with the same IPs that shut down MacsMind?"

A second question: "Will Blogger and Google check?"

A final question: "If Google finds the attacks came from the IPs at barrackobama.com, will they let anyone know?"

We're not holding our breaths for answers to the last two.

SPAM: Ethonol Policies Force Families to Cut Food Costs with Spam

Good News!
Spam Is On The Table And In The News.

One of the more profound effects of the US Government's mindless Cellulosic ethanol production subsidies is runaway food inflation. The joy of this policy is the , ah, down grading of the Family menu.

"There's no sign of a slowdown. Food inflation is running at an annualized rate of 6.1 percent as of April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics"

Spam is back!

"Spam's maker, Hormel Foods Corp., reported last week that it saw strong sales of Spam in the second quarter, helping push up its profits 14 percent. According to sales information coming from Hormel, provided by The Nielsen Co., Spam sales were up 10.6 percent in the 12-week period ending May 3, compared to last year. In the last 24 weeks, sales were up nearly 9 percent."

It is hard to stomach such good news.

Spam was launched in 1937, but sales took off after WWII when GIs returned with a 'taste' for the product and no money.

150 million cans of Spam are sold annually. And while it was once thought they were all eaten in Hawaii, apparently the joy of the poverty driven pantry will be the joy of all America. Amen. And for you Jewish-Americans, the delicacy comes in turkey flavor. Bit of unfortunate news there, eh?

And soon, home delivery.

Finally, a tribute to Spam--in haiku form.

Top Email News From the Past Year

Nigerian doctors, slashers under the car and rat poison on your envelope glue--just a sample of news you may have received in your email during the last year. Newspapers, telegrams, TV, cable, the Internet and emails are how people get their news. Many times, email news is of a special type.

[Top Email Forward News from the Past Year] at DBKP.com.

Paul Revere jumped on a horse to alert his fellow citizens. People now use emails to "spread the news". And what news it turns out to be.

We got an email from Vickie, the Goth chick, who used to be the barista at the coffee shop we frequented at one time. She apparently received it from someone who had received it from a guy in the U.K.

We're printing it because we've gotten several of the following emails sent to us over the last year. How many of the following stories have ended up in your email?
My thanks to all those who have sent me emails this year.

I must send my thanks to whoever sent me the one about rat sh*t in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet towel with every envelope that needs sealing.

Also, I now have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.

I no longer have any savings because I gave them to a sick girl (Penny Brown)who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time.

I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.

Or from the senior bank clerk in Nigeria who wants me to split $7 million with me for pretending to be a long lost relative of a customer who died intestate.

I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish.

I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day. Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward e-mail to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.

Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca-Cola because it can remove toilet stains.

I no longer can buy petrol without taking a man along to watch the car to prevent a serial killer won't crawl into the back seat when I'm filling up.

I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.

I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica, Uganda,Singapore and Uzbekistan.

Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my bum.

And thanks to your great advice, I can't even pick up the £5.00 I found dropped in the car park because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.

If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large seagull with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00pm next afternoon and the fleas from 12 mangy camels will infest your backside, causing you to grow a hairy lump.

I know this will occur, because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbour's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's beautician.

By the way....a South American scientist, after a lengthy study, has discovered, that people with low IQ who have infrequent sexual activity, always read their e-mails with their hand on the mouse.

Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late.
How did we ever live without the Internet?
