The Washington Post is onto Dick Cheney. Their resolve never wavers. They are ever vigilant. Women and children in the United States can breathe a little easier.

In a non-story earlier this week, WashPo details how Vice President Cheney's top lawyer, David S. Addington "pushed relentlessly to expand the powers of the executive branch." Quoting liberally (no pun intended) from "The Terror Presidency", a book that otherwise would have slipped unnoticed onto the remainders table, WashPo drops the usual Left buzzwords and phrases throughout: "unusual glimpse of fierce internal dissent", "engaging in tactics that pushed legal boundaries", and "Cheney is a Nazi".

OK, so that last phrase was mine.

In the Washington Post's account, the book, by a former US Justice Department lawyer, Jack Goldsmith, relates how Addington, now Cheney's chief of staff, schemed 24/7 to overthrow the Constitution and usher in a new totalitarian US government.

There are the usual tidbits about how hiring at the Bush Justice Department was--gasp!--political. Goldsmith himself survived the harrowing experience of being asked, "Are you a Republican?"

On the surface, Larry Craig and Edgar Allan Poe don't have much in common: Poe was a drunken, struggling writer, Craig is a US Senator; Poe married his 13-year-old cousin, Craig is for family values; Poe had an encounter with poet Sarah Ellen Whitman in Maryland, Craig had an encounter with an undercover cop in a public restroom.

But, PAT saw the connection.

How did the supermarket checkout staple, The National Enquirer, scoop the combined forces of CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox News, Time Magazine, Newsweek, USA Today, New York Times and the rest of the mainstream press in the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter Love Child affair?

"Inquiring minds want to know."

After an hour-long interview with David Perel, Editor-in-Chief of the National Enquirer, we can now say with certainty: it was easy. The steadfast "cone of silence" placed on the story by the Mainstream Media made it easy for anyone willing to do the legwork to grab the story from a decidedly-uninterested "respectable" press.

Perel, who was promoted to Editor-in-Chief of the Enquirer in 2005, has overseen the John Edwards Scandal investigation from the very start and provided DBKP with some interesting insights on Edwards, the Love Child Scandal and the Mainstream Media.

Mondoreb: Hi David, congratulations on the National Enquirer's scoop of the mainstream press--again.

David Perel: Thank you. It was nice to finally have the "smoking gun".




Mondo: This story has been on-going over the last--what--ten months?

DP: Yes, something like that. Certainly, it's taken some time.

Mondo: Do you feel vindicated by the latest turn of events in the John Edwards Love Child Story--after the Enquirer's reporters cornered Edwards in the Beverly Hilton?

DP: Absolutely. We'd gotten information and tips that Edwards was seeing Rielle Hunter and the baby. On Monday, we got some good intel that there was going to be a meeting at the Beverly Hilton hotel and we got the information in time to get everyone in place when it happened. We had a big team on it.

Mondo: I seem to remember that back in December, when the Enquirer broke the second installment of the Edwards scandal, that you had seven reporters working on the story then. How many did you have at the Beverly Hilton this time?

DP: There were seven on this story, also.

[NOTE: Presumably, they were all in optimum positions, as Edwards ran into not only two Enquirer reporters trying to make his escape from the hotel, but at least one Enquirer photographer, as well.]

Mondo: It's been over ten months since the Enquirer broke the Edwards scandal; seven-plus months since the December story that named Rielle Hunter as the "other woman" and showed her visibly pregnant. What was the Enquirer doing in the last seven months that the major press organizations could have been doing, but didn't, that allowed you scoop them?

DP: We stayed on the story. We did it the old-fashioned way, with lots of legwork. We did what the major news organizations used to do: we knocked on doors, ran down leads and talked to people.

Mondo: Why do you think the "major news organizations" didn't do this?

DP: I think it was a matter of interest. We knew--even though we couldn't reveal them--that our sources were credible. We fact-checked their stories and they checked out. It was a giant puzzle and we started fitting the pieces together. But, we were interested in fitting them together; in doing the checking, the groundwork.

I think with all of the cut-backs the other news organizations has suffered, many of them may not have had the man-power or the resources to do what we did. It was a major commitment on our part to continue and stay on the story.

Mondo: Have you ever seen a more blatant--what we've called it--"media blackout" of any story the Enquirer has broken than the Edwards affair?

DP: No. Amazing, simply amazing. It wasn't a total blackout, but very nearly.

Mondo: Why do you think this was?

DP: A couple of things: partly a lack of ability and partly a lack of desire.



Mondo: Do you think it might have anything to do with the fact that reporters on the regular campaign beat get too "comfortable"? Maybe they're afraid of offending whoever they're assigned to cover; who is really their meal-ticket?

DP: Absolutely. It's a flaw in the system and certainly a flaw in the coverage.

What would it have taken for a reporter to stick a microphone in Edwards' face and ask him to confirm or deny certain details of the story we broke in December? What would it take for a reporter to stick a microphone in his face now and ask him to deny or confirm he was in the Beverly Hilton? What was he doing visiting Rielle Hunter there?

Edwards is supposedly on the list for vice-presidential candidates. Look at Edwards actions, his involvement with the cover-up, the size of the cover-up. It shows a bit of his character. People might not want someone that close to the presidency.

Mondo: If they knew about it...

DP: Yes.

Mondo: What were some of the difficulties in the Edwards investigation?

DP: The cover-up by the campaign, the scope of the cover-up.

I can tell you it was not easy locating Rielle Hunter. A couple times it was very hard finding out where she had moved. It took a lot of time, effort and resources.

Mondo: You were in contact with the Edwards campaign in December about the story. Did you give them a chance to respond to it before it came out?

DP: Yes.

Mondo: And they didn't?

DP: There was no official response from the campaign or its lawyers.

Mondo: The National Enquirer's record on breaking political scandals is pretty solid. What do you say to your detractors; the ones who dismiss anything you uncover with a "Well, it's in the Enquirer".

DP: Our detractors don't read the magazine. The ones who read it know we get it right.
Mondo: Isn't it just a way of avoiding having to address the facts; to attack the Enquirer?

DP: It's like reviewing a book you've never read. Or like, who was it, Maxim reviewing an album they'd never listened to.

Mondo: There was some rumblings about the first and second Love Child stories being the products of the Clinton camp. One of the Clinton backers has a share of your parent company, I believe. Any comments?

DP: It has nothing to do with the editorial side, which I run. They could say that back in December when Clinton was still in the race, but now, she's supposed to be uniting the Democrats behind Obama. So, it doesn't make much sense.

We follow the story, not the man. We cover both sides. We broke Rush Limbaugh's Oxycontin troubles, we did Jesse Jackson's love child and we broke a lot of the news in the OJ story. It's nothing personal--it's the story.

Mondo: You have more updates planned on this latest installment?

DP: We'll be updating the story several times. We're not finished yet.

Mondo: Any other comments?

DP: We were looking for the "smoking gun": time, place, day and date. Edwards could always "deny, deny, deny". Now, Edwards can't deny being at the Beverly Hilton and visiting Rielle Hunter. There were at least 10 eyewitnesses to the affair of Edwards running on the stairs and ducking into the restroom. I'm proud of the story. It speaks for itself.

Hillary Clinton: Thank Heaven for Stupid Girls

Hillary has been doing my work again. It's not that she has been trying to derail Barack Obama using the tactics we used against her and Bill in '90's. It's not that she has been trying her best to make him unelectable. It's not even that she has been sinking her own party. It's that she has been so stupid to let the right manipulate her and play her like a cheap guitar.

She is the gift that keeps on giving--to the vast right wing conspiracy, of which I have been a loyal member. And here's the best part, she has been befriended by members of the right, like Richard Mellon Scaife. Others, like Sean Hannity, have come to her aid. She has even appeared on Bill O'Reilly twice. Thank heaven she's just that dumb.

You see, Hill doesn't understand that the only reason we are being so nice to her on the right is that we really, really, really want to run against her in the fall. We really can't run against the black guy, because most of us can't say "black" without sounding like we are card carrying members of the Ku Klux Klan. Which is just totally unfair to us. Many of us, like myself, stopped carrying the cards a long time ago and just attend the weekend rallies and weenie roasts. Nothing says good eating like a weenie roasted over a burning cross!

Hill doesn't understand that as soon as the primaries are over, and she is the nominee, we will come down on her like Larry Craig on a teamster at a truck stop bathroom. We have years of material saved up, chirons we are itching to splash across the television screens of America, stories saved up about how she murdered Vince Foster, killed some teenagers in Arkansas, and smuggled drugs in and out of South America.

What she doesn't know won't hurt Fox News' ratings in the fall. When the Fox News Network becomes all Hillary bashing all the time.

So I raise my glass to you Hillary. Thanks for doing my job for me. See you in Denver, when we totally rip you a new one!

Hillary Clinton appeared on The O'Reilly Factor last night, finally facing off with Bill O'Reilly in the No-Spin Zone. Judge Napolitano described it as the "toughest interview she's ever had."

Hillary was pretty in pink with nary a crease in her smiling face. She was cool, calm and collected as she answered all the hard questions lobbed at her by tough interviewer Bill O'Reilly. Questions like, "Are you surprised Fox News has treated your campaign in a fair and balanced manner?" Hard one. Giggle, giggle.

O'Reilly then moved on to the Rev. Wright/Obama situation. Hillary fielded this tough question by saying unequivocally, "I take offense. I don't believe the US government caused the AIDS crisis." Hillary scored big by finally declaring what most of America already knows. Talk about speaking truth to power.

On to the next hardball question. When asked how much she would raise taxes, Hillary stuck to her deeply held belief that the rich, herself included, were not taxed enough. Her policy as president would be to up the taxes on the rich in order to give it to the "hardworking middle-class, who get up every morning and keep the country running." Boy, its tough getting up in the morning when one is middle-class. Bill didn't mention that the rich get up every morning also. And neglected to point out that all those hardworking middle class guys were working at jobs provided by all those rich geeks. Who keeps the country running, again?

The pundits are describing this morning how O'Reilly really pinned Hillary down on her oil policy. If you actually saw the interview, you could see quite clearly that the score then was Hillary: 3, O'Reilly: 0. He did manage to bring up the fact that Hillary has voted down nuclear power seven times. Hillary skated, unchallenged (Hill 4, O'Reilly 0) with her most amazing statements of the whole interview. "We (meaning all us guys in fly-over country) will have to change the way we behave." In other words, Hillary will now set the standards of behavior to which Americans will have to conform.



She then burnished her tough guy creds by passionately demanding that oil companies be "held accountable" and "there is no basis for their profits". Since profit is now regarded as a dirty word, this statement, too, went unchallenged. Also unmentioned was the fact that the government takes .48 cents in gas taxes while the oil companies settle for .09 cents.

O'Reilly, to his credit, said her redistribution policies smacked of socialism. Hill, taking a page from the liberal 'debate' book, skirted the issue by pointing to FDR, as if his socialism justified hers. She got away with it, too. Then O'Reilly let skate the most astonishing piece of spin I've ever heard. "Rich people deserve all the opportunity to see that the next generation does well." Well, who are we to deny the rich the opportunity to be taxed to death in order to pay for failed government programs. Not Bill O'Reilly.

Hillary mentioned several times the need for accountability. Bill O'Reilly missed out big time on this issue. Hillary's claim that she has been 'vetted' has been accepted by O'Reilly. No need to ask any questions about Travelgate (perjury), Whitewater (fraud), making $99,000 and change from a $1,000 investment (bribery, fraud), the fact that she received 99.9% of the vote from a small community after hubby Bill dished out pardons for their terrorists members (bribery, vote fraud), the Vince Foster 'suicide' (conspiracy), her proven complicity in illegal Chinese cash (bribery, treason), the FBI files she probably still has after the former bouncer she hired, Craig Livingston, was given a vital security job in the Clinton White House (blackmail). Not to mention her complicity and active participation in the hundreds of scandals hubby Bill was involved in.

You can't fault O’Reilly, I guess. No-one, with the exception of Reed Irvine of Accuracy in Media, and Chris Ruddy of Newsmax, has ever followed up on the documented evidence that shows without a doubt the corruption and amorality of Hillary. Documented evidence that would put a lesser mortal in the slammer.

Even conservatives have refused to publish the real Hillary scandals. Possibly for fear of losing their credibility by being branded part of the vast right-wing conspiracy. This remains a puzzle to me to this day.

Hillary is one smart cookie. Under that Dorian Gray exterior, she is ruthless, determined and has shown she will go to any lengths in her quest for power. The real danger is the fact that, unlike Bill Clinton, Hillary is, and has been her whole life, a dedicated socialist/Marxist. She is a true believer. She has a vision of the world, one that has already been tried and proven disastrous, that includes her as President, with her hands on the levers of power. Power to destroy capitalism in favor of her version of utopia. Knowing that, since man, not God, is responsible for the state of the world, man (Hillary) will finally be able to establish utopia.

Despite the fact that every effort she has made to date has met with resounding failure. And the American citizens have been left to pick up the tab.

Another issue O'Reilly never brought up.

Frank Luntz: Permanent Evil Doer

Another "Tale from the Blancasphere"

"Frankly, Luntz, I Don't Give a Damn"

Up to this point I have been a big fan of Frank Luntz. After all, it is because of him that we have such wonderful turns of phrase, which gave us eight wonderful years of Commander Guy.

He has been a brilliant pollster, and an incredible Orwellian pen write, permitting fat turd blossoms like Karl Rove to realize their dreams. If it weren't for people like Frank Luntz, all of Karl's dreams of a Republican President and majority would have gone unrealized.

After all, Karl Rove is not exactly a rocket scientist. Actually, he's pretty much stupid as a stone. After this pecker wood lost us both the House and the Senate in 2006, I decided that his genius was greatly exaggerated.

But after last night, watching Frank on Bill Maher, I realized that even this perceived genius was nothing more than a paper tiger, presenting nothing more than kabuki theater as fact.

Frank sat there, praising Obama and Hillary, granting them the crown of inevitability, all the while lambasting the Republicans as lost, nothing, so, yesterday. As the moments progressed, my anger grew, until finally I could take no more, and I turned off the TV.

Frank Luntz Syndrome

Mr. Luntz until now has been very much like the the Jewish policemen of the Warsaw ghetto. Just like Frank, they operated under the misguided notion that if they cooperated and sold out their own, they would survive the Holocaust.

And just like Frank, they were wrong. Luntz has relentlessly attacked gays, even though he is as gay as a three dollar bill. But he has had the decency to keep it on the down low. Aaron of Lifelike Pundits should take a lesson from Luntz.

But in the end, a gay in Republican clothing cannot hide.

Just ask Larry Craig.

But this new tack of throwing the Republicans under the bus, in order to save his own sorry ass if the unthinkable happens this November, is just beyond the pale. I cannot idly sit by and let him not only humanize the Democrats Hillary and Barack, but also tear down our one and only hope for the party, Mike Huckabee.

I am now going to use my considerable power as a blogger to come to bear against you, Mr. Luntz. Please consider this your notice, Frank.

You are now officially and permanently on my Evildoers List.

May God have mercy on your soul.

A Reagan conservative should be wary of Mitt Romney. A fiscal conservative should be suspicious of Mitt Romney. A social conservative should be frightened of Mitt Romney.

During his governorship in Massachusetts, he raised taxes. Under his leadership, the state began a dangerous foray into socialized medicine. While he captained the ship of state, Republicans saw a continuing erosion of their power in the state legislature to the point that any conservative in the state of Massachusetts must truly think they have the Madness of King George when going to the bathroom.

Take that Dennis Miller!

But the most disturbing development during Mitt's time in the governor's mansion in Boston was the legalization of gay marriage. At a time when most of the states of the union were shunning gays, trying to force them back in the closet and take away their civil rights, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts not only legitimized gay marriage but codified it, by first permitting, and then sanctifying gay unions.

And while Mittens tried to keep gays from outside of the Bay State from enjoying these perverted rights by using a little known law designed to keep interracial marriages, he did nothing to actually stop the practice. In fact it appeared he quietly accepted it.

To those outside New England this may all come as surprise for a devout Mormon, a religion, which frowns not only on gay marriage, but also on interracial marriage, and even as recently as 1978, did not permit blacks into Heaven.

But to anyone from Massachusetts, Mittens has been no stranger to the gays. He once campaigned on a pledge that he would be a greater friend to the gays than Edward Kennedy.

And this is where all Republicans should be concerned. For the last seven years we have suffered through an encroachment onto our civil rights, by a society becoming ever more accepting of gays.

This brings us to the edge of a slippery slope. If we suddenly grant gays civil rights, then who will want them next? Blacks? Jews? Women? My friend, I could not live in a nation like that. Tolerance is so anti-Republican.

While we have had a super friend in the White House for these seven years, helping to stem the tide of tolerance and acceptance, we have had a silent enemy, who has secretly schemed against us in the Naval Observatory. And it is no coincidence that he has a lesbian daughter.

Dick Cheney has attempted to undermine all the hard work Commander Guy has done to stop the nation's slide to Sodom and Gomorrah, and he has done this on behalf of his daughter. In fact, during these seven years, the number of homos in the Cheney clan has grown by one, with the birth of a baby boy to Mary Cheney.

Social conservatives should not fool themselves. A Romney Presidency would bring a continuation of this tolerance. You see Mittens has a personal stake in the struggle of gay rights, just like Dick Cheney.

One of Mitt's sons, Craig, is gay, and his father will stop at nothing to help his son live the lifestyle. In fact, Mr. Magic Underpants wants to give Craig a present, a present of national gay marriage.

And before you know it, we will have gay people living next door to you, making house payments, buying cars, mowing the lawn, owning pets, and having children. How horrifying! I mean, we had to accept all those Negroes thanks to LBJ, but I'll be damned if we have to accept all these homos.

So if you are a conservative in any of the states, which have not yet voted in the primaries, please think twice before casting a vote for Mittens. Because a vote for Mittens is a vote for gays: gay marriage, gay cars, gay mortgages, gay lawn mowers, and gay picket fences.

You have the power to stop this. If you attend a Mittens rally, just ask him this one question: how can we trust you to uphold traditional marriage, when you couldn't even raise your own son right? And if he denies the allegations, that just makes them all the more true.

Remember Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig all denied they were gay before their bathroom toe tapping, male prostitute seeing, and underage boy stalking behavior was made public. The future of our nation is in your hands.

Take action now, before it's too late.

Sen. Larry Craig: ACLU Files Brief - Sex Okay in MN Public Stalls

The American Civil Liberties Union may become Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig's best friend and worst nightmare, if the ACLU brief filed Tuesday with the Minnesota Court of Appeals, in support of the attempt to appeal Craig's August 8 conviction of Disorderly Conduct, is successful.

The appeal, if accepted by the court, shoots down Craig's attempts to deny he was in an airport bathroom stall playing footsies with an undercover cop to signal he was looking for sex. This would also further undercut Craig's denials that he is not homosexual. Charges that have been rampant since it was announced in August that he had been caught in an undercover bathroom sting and subsequently plead guilty to Disorderly Conduct without any advice from counsel.





According to the Associated Press, Craig was arrested on June 11 and originally charged with interference with privacy, which dovetails with the brief the ACLU filed with the court. The ACLU is citing a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling made 38 years ago that found "people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms "have a reasonable expectation of privacy.""

The ACLU argued that the original charge of "interference of privacy" proves Craig's intent was indeed sex when he was arrested June 11. He had a "right to privacy" which included sex and should never have been charged, referring to the 38-year-old decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court.

"The government cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Senator Craig was inviting the undercover officer to engage in anything other than sexual intimacy that would not have called attention to itself in a closed stall in the public restroom," the ACLU wrote in its brief.

Craig plead guilty to Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct on August 8 in Hennepin County Municipal Court, in Bloomington, Minnesota. According to CNN, Craig plead guilty to Disorderly Conduct, paid a $500 fine, and received a sentence of 10 days in jail that was stayed.

Minnesota law defines disorderly conduct as brawling, disturbing a meeting or engaging in "offensive, obscene, abusive, boisterous or noisy conduct."

According to Roll Call, the arresting officer alleged that Craig lingered outside a rest room stall where the officer was sitting, then entered the stall next door and blocked the door with his luggage.

According to the arrest report cited by Roll Call, Craig tapped his right foot, which the officer said he recognized "as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct."

The report alleges Craig then touched the officer's foot with his foot and the senator "proceeded to swipe his hand under the stall divider several times," according to Roll Call.

At that point, the officer said he put his police identification down by the floor so Craig could see it and informed the senator that he was under arrest, before any sexual contact took place.

When the news broke in August of Craig's arrest back in June, Craig denied any inappropriate behavior:

"At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct," he said. "I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."

Craig argued that he plead guilty because he wanted to handle the matter himself, "quickly and expeditiously." The fact of the matter was that Craig was arrested on June 11 and didn't go to court until two months later on August 8, where he plead guilty. Therefore Craig had two whole months to consider obtaining the advise of an attorney and/or changing his plea.

NN) -- Sen. Larry Craig on Thursday said he was not resigning from the Senate despite a Minnesota judge denying his request to withdraw his guilty plea stemming from his arrest in a sex sting at an airport men's room.

"I am extremely disappointed with the ruling issued today," Craig said in a statement. "I am innocent of the charges against me. I continue to work with my legal team to explore my additional legal options."

"I will continue to serve Idaho in the United States Senate, and there are several reasons for that," the Republican said. Source - CNN

In an effort to appeal his guilty plea Craig's own attorneys filed an appeal, Jan. 8:

Hennepin County District Judge Charles Porter found that Craig had entered the guilty plea to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge "accurately, voluntarily and intelligently," and that it was too late to withdraw his admission.

In a sharply worded 27-page order, the judge found that Craig had freely given his plea after extensive discussions with prosecutors and after waiving his right to an attorney.

"The defendant, a career politician with a college education, is of at least above-average intelligence," Porter wrote. "He knew what he was saying, reading, and signing.

If the ACLU appeal is successful in getting Craig's guilty plea reversed, it will be a mixed bag of blessings for Craig. Since it relates to the older Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that said people had a right to privacy in public bathrooms "including sex," it may mean Craig's month's long crusade to have his guilty plea overturned will finally be over. But with the addendum, he'll still be stuck in a moral quagmire, that Craig was there for "gay" sex, the charge he continues to deny.

The Curious Case of Senator Craig

In a quest to have his Guilty Plea flushed in a Disorderly Conduct charge, Senator Larry Craig's attorneys filed a brief with the Minnesota Appeals Court Tuesday.

The Republican Senator from Idaho plead guilty in August, without the advice of an attorney, after he was caught in a bathroom sting at a Minneapolis airport. Craig contends his guilty plea was a mistake and the original charge, "misconstrued".

Craig's attorneys' argue that Craig's "alleged" conduct affected only a single individual, the cop in the bathroom stall next to him. The undercover cop who alleges Craig played "gay" footsies with him between the two stalls. Since there was only the one cop, according to Craig's attorneys, this doesn't satisfy the "others" involved in the disorderly conduct statute.

Apparently in the minds of Craig's attorneys, Craig would have had to played "footsie" with several pretend "light in the loafer" lads for a Disorderly Conduct charge to apply.

As a United States Senator surely Craig is familiar with what may happen when one pleads guilty, not guilty, or the "Fifth".

Senator Craig made the decision to plead guilty back in August to a Disorderly Conduct charge then announced he would resign September 30th.

Craig was accused of making sexual overtures to an undercover cop in a public restroom at the Minneapolis airport. The charge he plead guilty to was Disorderly Conduct.

Why would a United States Senator plead guilty to a charge of Disorderly Conduct if he was innocent, as Craig contends?

Usually when someone pleads it's in the "down" direction to a lesser charge. Craig's fight with the court is to "clear" his name. The way he's going about it, having his attorneys argue that the charge against him is invalid because there were not "multiple victims" involved, will not mitigate the public's perception one iota of Craig in this matter.

Craig's tattered reputation will remain intact.
