Dog the Bounty Hunter: Rally Set for NYC Thursday

Organizers hope NYC Dog rally as large as one in Texas for TAR

Dog the Bounty Hunter fans will rally outside the A&E studios building in New York City this Thursday in a show of support for their favorite TV show and personality, Duane "Dog" Chapman.

Organizers are expecting a good turnout of fans in what they bill as a "Peace, rather than a protest type of rally".

A spokesman for one of the organizing groups, Dog's Angels,"We've gotten feedback from people in the NYC area. We have some groups showing up, as well as organized fans, but we still are looking for people to show up and support Dog and his family."

We received the following release from Dog's Angels just a bit ago.
Here is the story of Duane "Dog" Chapman, The Greatest Bounty Hunter in The World.

Mr. Chapman and his family, starred in a reality show on A&E Network's known as Dog The Bounty Hunter--hereafter referred to as DTBH.

He gained fame when he captured the Monster-Predator, one, Andrew Luster, thus propelling him into the limelight of instant Stardom.

This past summer, his book, "You Can Run But You Can't Hide" debuted the New York Times Best Sellers List at #1! Unexpected thousands upon thousands jammed his book signings, only to be turned away, not because Mr. Chapman could sign no more, but because there were no more books left to be sold!

His show was an enormous success, combining the rough and tumble world of bounty hunting, with the home life of The Chapman Family, and bringing to the fore, their deep faith in God, and their unselfish Christian Spirit.

As well as providing compassion and advice to the fugitives they captured, The Chapmans allowed us to view a truly unique family going about their day to day life.

Mr. Chapman has a great appeal to the children. He genuinely cares about their well being and he, along with all the Chapmans, give with their whole heart to such wonderful organizations as "Make a Wish".

Below is a synopsis of what occurred to bring about the demise of DTBH.

Last month, in a PRIVATE telephone conversation with one of his sons, Mr. Chapman used the "N" word in anger and frustration. Little did he know eight months ago, that his own son had taped this conversation and would sell out his own father to the National Enquirer for $15,000! A father, betrayed by his own son!

The National Enquirer posted a partial, edited version of the conversation on the internet, which was taken out of context and, which write-ups were twisted, convoluted and blown completely out of proportion. As a result, Mr. Chapman's show and A&E's #1 program has been halted until further notice.

Mr. Chapman repeatedly publicly apologized on national television on Larry King Live, The Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes, amongst others. He has promised to mend his ways. He has met with several black leaders and continues counseling with his black preacher and spiritual adviser, Tim Storey. The fallout continues.

In the meantime, A&E's action against Mr. Chapman has had traumatic effects not only on himself, but on his entire family. Not only has the network taken away Mr. Chapman's livelihood, but also that of his children, who are also bounty hunters in the show, that have mouths to feed of their own. It also has besmirched the Chapman name.

Thus we are deeply saddened at the loss of DTBH on A&E. We, Dogs' Angels, are trying, with the myriad of other fans, to return Mr. Chapman and his family to Tuesday nights on A&E, where they belong. We have been on an email crusade jamming the Inboxes of A&E's and their sponsors'. Also, we have been boycotting the television network and their sponsors as well, specifically YUM! foods which include Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, A&W, Long John Silvers and Wingstreet. We have also been involved in "The Pineapple Campaign".

We along with other fans are sending pineapples (Mr. Chapman lives in and the show is filmed in Hawaii.) to A&E headquarters in New York City, at times, cases to Abbe Raven, CEO. More recently, we are boycotting The National Enquirer as well. Also, there are petitions with tens of thousands of signatures, requesting A&E to please bring the show back on the air. (One of the major ones is The Keep Dog On TV Petition, http://www.petitiononline.com/

Also, and most importantly, we are holding a rally on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at The A&E Building - 235 East 45th St., New York, from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM. We believe Mr. Chapman deserves a second chance, as he has given so many chances to others.

Below is a view which all Mr. Chapmans' fans hold to be true and honest.

It is my firm belief that the conversation between Dog and his son should have remained a private conversation. Additionally, I believe that by so many people adding hype to this inappropriate comment they are literally making a mountain out of a mole hill. Not to undermine the emotion millions of people feel associated with this word. To condemn him for a comment made in private and then publicly display it for national critics is nothing short of wrong, wrong, wrong. If there is to be criticism it should be directed to at his son. It seems to me that America is condoning the betrayal of a son to his father. That is where all the publicity should fall. Having watched "Dogs" show for years and following his response to this issue it is obvious that "Dog" himself has and is sufficiently punishing himself for letting his guard down and making a comment that was made in anger to his son. I honestly do not believe that it was the intent of "Dog" to hurt anyone with the use of t he "N" word. By publicly deciding the outcome of the future for "Dog" and his entire family over one inappropriate word seems so wrong. To quote scripture "Those among you who are WITHOUT sin cast the first stone". Perhaps you haven't used the "N" word however, the word Jew, Wetback, Whitie along with hundreds of other scenarios are every bit as hurtful to those it is applicable to. Dog does not fit the profile acceptable to mainstream America by presenting his personal taste, methods, expressions etc… Those who enjoy his program have known simply for those reasons that it was only a matter of time before something of this nature devastated his career. Why can't America simply accept his apology and move past this. If all of our conversations were put on public display how many of us would be standing in similar shoes? He was provoked by his son when this comment was made. How many of us say things in anger or when provoked that we would give anything to take back? The attention to all the counseling, guidance and respect he gives to those individuals he brings to justice has not been mentioned once. How many of us are the proverbial "Pot calling the kettle black"? We each have one judge in this life and that is GOD ALMIGHTY, I believe He has the judgment issue under control without our help. I say "Forgive" and move on.

Thank you.

Dog the Bounty Hunter: Black Group To Host Book Signing and Christmas Toy Giveaway With “Dog The Bounty Hunter”

Duane Chapman

The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson has spent his entire life stretching out his hands, to help those in need help themselves. Helping others is what the Rev. does; it's his life's work.

Now, he sees someone else that needs help, and so he's stretching out his hand once more.

This time his helping hand is doing double duty: while he's helping the young men at his Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny(BOND) Home for Boys, he's also reaching out to help another in need: Duane "Dog" Chapman.

From the BOND press release a few minutes ago:
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles based nonprofit organization BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, will host a Book Signing for Duane “Dog” Chapman’s book “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide”, as well as a Christmas toy giveaway for kids on Saturday, December 15, at 11:30a.m.PST.

When: Saturday, December 15, at 11:30 a.m. PST.

Where: BOND Headquarters, 6146 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. 90035 (S.E. Corner of Pico and La Cienega).

We also believe that Duane “Dog” Chapman sincerely wants to make amends to the black community, and deserves a second chance,” said Rev. Peterson.

Come meet “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, purchase an autographed copy of his book; and pick up free Christmas toys for the kids. This event is free and open to the public. You must bring the kids to get the toys. For more information, call (323) 782-1980 or visit www.bondinfo.org

What is BOND?

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson and BOND are standing in the gap on behalf of fathers and their families. Thanks to your support, we are rebuilding our families and communities.

We are making a profound difference, through our powerful meetings for men and women, Sunday Services, counseling, mentoring, and tutoring; and through programs such as our BOND Home for Boys, After School Character Building Program and Entrepreneur Program; as well as through our radio and TV programs, conferences, workshops, town hall meetings, articles, interviews, and Moral Reconstruction Campaign.

BOND Home for Boys

The BOND Home for Boys is helping build Black fathers, one young man at a time.

What is the BOND Home for Boys?

From Bond's Website:
Residents of the BOND home come from foster care, group homes, juvenile detention centers, transitional housing, and sometimes the streets. More important than where each boy comes from is his attitude, and willingness to overcome his past. Prior to being accepted into the program, each applicant is evaluated to measure this willingness.

BOND's Home is much more than just a physical shelter for young men - it is a full program, with requirements, expectations, and abundant learning opportunities.

Residents of the home are helped to overcome anger right from the beginning. This is critical, as anger will have been the number one impediment to their happiness and success in life. To this end, they are counseled by Rev. Peterson, both individually and in group settings. The young men are tutored when needed, helped to put their finances in order, are assisted in finding and holding employment, and are guided to find their purpose in life. Those so inclined are encouraged to start businesses.

The BOND Home has been a resounding success and has transformed young men who previously had futures which held little promise. It stands as an excellent example for the surrounding community.

There is a constant waiting list at the BOND home, with a great need for more homes like this one, as even a cursory visit to any juvenile detention center would reveal. BOND plans to start new homes as funds allow.

One can't help but be impressed with this tremendously needed program.

Can you help the Dog help out those young men at BOND?

We're all waiting on that answer.

Dog the Bounty Hunter:
Editorial Round-Up

Dog the Bounty Hunter
UPDATE: November 11 2007 SUNDAY

Dog the Bounty Hunter's Duane Chapman has kept out of the limelight for the last several days. He seems to have done what most people do in times of stress and trouble--hunker down in safe surroundings and weather the storm.

Around the country, the reaction was of several varieties. Editorially, it was running against the Bounty Hunter and no amount of apologies can right the wrong. Editors are busy people.

A casual reading of these makes one suspect that some of the editors doing the writing were too busy to listen to the tapes--outside of the famous 10-15 second soundbites that every media outlet has played over the last 10 days.

The editors are of the mind that Duane Champman, a man with a rough background and an ex-con, should never have been thinking, let alone saying, what he did. An interesting experiment: one of the writers below has a private cellphone conversation taped unawares, sold to the National Enquirer, edited down to the most inflammatory bits and played on national media.

It might be interesting to hear their reaction then.

The fan reaction was, understandably, running heavily in Dog's favor--most Internet polls are still racking up 80-90% in Chapman's favor. A 'live and let live' attitude seems to be the norm.

A random round-up of Dog the Bounty Hunter opinions is presented below.

Scott Beasley [11-08-07] at Clarksville Online:

Anyone who has listened to the sickening rant of this so called “celebrity” should be infuriated. His repetitive use of the “N” word and obvious disapproval with interracial relationships was exemplified in a recorded phone call. His breakdown on television the other night was a bit premature. After listening to his hate-filled rant and then listening to his tearful apology, I find it hard to believe that he “transformed” overnight.

As a white man who grew up in the south, racism is prevalent towards every minority and is something that cannot be “unlearned” overnight. In today’s society, the use of the “N” word is taboo. It is demeaning and disrespectful and serves no purpose in society other than to be used as an example of what not to do. Condemning interracial relationships is even more disturbing.

believe it to be little too soon for this man to try to save face the way he tried on national television and I don’t believe it to be a sincere gesture, but more of a damage control plea.

Earl Ofari Hutchinson [11-5-07] at Alternet:
"I am sick and tired of people like you and the phony and fake Al Sharpton who go after white people who say something you don't like and then using the excuse ... it degrades black women, etc."

That was one of the tamer emails I got when I called for A&E Television to cancel outright the "Dog the Bounty Hunter" show. We all know by now what round em' up and bring em' back alive Duane Chapman aka the Bounty Hunter did to get the temporary ax.

He let fly a "B" and "N" word laced rant and borderline threatening oaths at his son for having the temerity to date a black woman. A&E "suspended" production of the show. That was a weak, tepid, and vacillating response. And I told why. Dog's comments about black women are more than just gender and racially demeaning and hurtful to black women. They are a vicious attack on and call to end interracial relations, as well as an incitement to violence. Dog the Bounty Hunter's' statement was far more damaging than shock jock Don Imus's.

I frontally challenged A&E and said that suspension of the show is not enough. A&E can send the strong message that the sentiments he expressed will not be tolerated by immediate cancellation of the show.

The suspension I also said is simply a cover your butt holding action by A& E that left the door wide open for Dog to climb back on the airwaves. That prospect was even more real and fresh in mind with the announcement the day before by Citadel Broadcasting that shock Jock Don Imus had cut a deal with the network and would be back on board December 3.

Dylan Vox [11-07-07] at Gay Wired:
It’s been a week since the taped audio message of Duane “Dog “ Chapman calling his son’s girlfriend racial slurs hit the press, and while it is still not clear whether his popular show Dog the Bounty Hunter will be renewed by A& E, it is clear that Chapman is trying to salvage his career. Breaking into tears, he has been making the rounds to TV stations, to the girls parents and is even expected to appear on Larry King Live to apologize for his flagrant use of the 'n' word.

As a former inmate and current bounty hunter, Chapman is no stranger to controversial situations, but the public outrage with this latest tirade may just put an end to his television career.

Excerpts of a conversation with his son Tucker Chapman were released to the National Enquirer, containing numerous racial slurs used when referring to Tucker’s African-American girlfriend, Monique Shinnery.

[11-08-07] at
BuddyTV:
Days after a taped conversation, wherein Dog the Bounty Hunter star Duane "Dog" Chapman can be heard liberally using the N-word, was leaked, the famed bounty hunter and reality star went on FOX News Hannity & Colmes, and tearfully apologized for using the racial slur and explained what prompted him to do it.

Apparently, the 54-year-old has always felt a certain kinship with the black community, and claims he never used the N-word out of hate.

"There's a special connection that I thought I had between me and black America. And I used to say, 'I'm black, too,'” Duane Chapman told Hannity & Colmes' Sean Hannity on Tuesday. “In other words, my whole life I've been called a half-breed, a convict, king of the trailer trash, this and that… so when I stood there and said, 'I kind of know what you feel like, because I've been there, too,' that I felt that I could embrace and like, as brothers… say the word.”

Leonard Pitts at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Beg pardon, but who died and made Al Sharpton president of the Negroes?

Not that Sharpton has ever declared himself as such. But the fact that some regard him as black America's chief executive was driven home for the umpteenth time a few days ago after TV reality show bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman got in trouble for using a certain toxic racial epithet - six letters, starts with "n," rhymes with digger - on the phone with his son.

As you may have heard, Chapman was expressing disapproval of the son's black girlfriend.

"It's not because she's black," he said. "It's because we use the word 'n-----' sometimes here. I'm not going to take a chance ever in life of losing everything I've worked for for 30 years because some f------ n----- heard us say 'n-----' and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine."

Naturally, the son sold a tape of the conversation to the National Enquirer. Which leaves me in the awkward position of simultaneously loathing what Chapman said and pitying him for having raised a rat fink son who would sell out his own father for a few pieces of silver.

Anyway, with his life and career circling the drain, an apologetic Chapman fell back on what is becoming standard operating procedure for celebrities who defame black folk. He contacted Sharpton.

In so doing, he follows the trail blazed by Don Imus, Washington shock jock Doug "Greaseman" Tracht and Michael Richards, who sought out Sharpton (or, alternately, Jesse Jackson) after saying what they wished they had not. They were all, in turn, following the news media, which, whenever a quote on some racial matter is required, turn to the right reverends by reflex.
