Illegal Immigration Video: Postville, IA Rally Against Illegal Immigration

Blogs4Borders' weekly video blogburst features coverage from a rally in Postville, Iowa. The town has been transformed, culturally and demographically, by the influx of illegal immigrants in recent years.

The presidential candidates, politicians that they both are, were all over Iowa in January, when there were votes to be had. Now, it seems to take a rally by townspeople to get their ears 7 months later on a nagging concern.

The federal government's refusal to enforce the laws of the land.

Katrina, Iowa Floods: Reactions Completely Different

THE ANTI-THESIS OF KATRINA
Babba Zee's Brain

KID ROCK: AMEN (hat tip to Miss m)

And this comes to me via Lucius Septimius - author unknown

THE ANTI-THESIS OF KATRINA:

The people of Iowa have suffered greatly in the past week as their rivers have over-flowed their banks, and as town after town after town has been put under historically deep, stinking, brown water.

And the people of Iowa will smile; they will shrug their shoulders; they will not complain that the government has abandoned them; the will not rush to the over-passes of highways and hold screaming press conferences decrying the Bush Administration; they will not wonder where the National Guard is, for they do not want the national guard there.

They will instead shoulder their burden; wait for the waters to recede; pick up their brooms, their shovels, their hoses and buckets and rags and get to work cleaning up after the nation's "attack."

They will not rant; they will work. They won't scream; they will work. They won't call down the heavens upon the government. They will work. They won't look to Washington, or even much toward Des Moines; rather they will look to each other and they will work. God Bless these people, for this is America at its best. This is the Midwest where we grew up, and our friends grew up, and our (children) go to school. This is not Katrina. This is Katrina's anti-thesis.

Huckabee Pheasant Hunt: Reporters Cry Foul

Dance, varmints, dance!

The Chicago Tribune's The Swamp has a story about Mike Huckabee's "muzzle control problem."

According to the writer, Jim Tankersley, Huckabee and his cronies went for a pheasant hunt the day after Christmas in Iowa. Tankersley pointed out a gun safety issue with Huckabee's hunt: shooting pheasants and/or reporters.

What was even more interesting were the comments solicited from the story.

"Don't get in my way."

Republican Mike Huckabee took his presidential campaign for a quick pheasant-hunting expedition in Iowa on Wednesday, and at one point, a reporter asked why he hadn’t invited sporting enthusiast Dick Cheney along. "Because I want to survive all the way through this," Huckabee replied, in a chuckling dig at the vice president’s accidental shooting of a quail-hunting partner last year.
At one point Huckabee's party kicked up a pheasant that flew up over the reporter's heads. Huck and Co. blasted their shotguns at the pheasants (and reporters) from a distance of 75 yards.

Tankersley pointed out that this was bad hunting form.
“Never point a firearm at yourself or others,” the International Hunter Education Association declares in its Basic Safety Rules. Later, it adds, “Never point your firearm at something you do not intend to shoot. Make sure you positively identify what you are shooting at and know what lies in front of and beyond it.”
Tankersley wrote how this type of "hunting" reinforced bad hunting stereotypes:
It’s the sort of behavior that drives safety-conscious hunters up the wall, because it reinforces a reckless, gun-totin’ stereotype.
When asked for a metaphor after Huckabee emerged from the hunt, three dead pheasants in tow, he replied:
"Don't get in my way. This is what happens."
We agree with Tankersley. There is nothing like going hunting with a reckless or careless hunter. You can tell a lot about person from just one hunt. Cockiness with a gun translates to recklessness. There's something special about someone who thinks it's okay or even "cute" to shoot in your direction. Some hunters even get that "twinkle" in their eye.

"I say, son, did I shoot over your head. You should of moved quicker." Hardee-har-har-har.

But what we found even more interesting were the comments.
The writer of this essay doesn't understand the depth of the anger that has been produced in Americans by the sustained, dishonest, and dishonorable reporting of those members of the media who seek to protect the profits of the obscenely rich at the expense of the average person. Maybe the shotgun episode will wipe the smug expressions off some of their faces.
Great shooting Mr. Huckabee! People will try to say anything to make you look bad. I'm from rural Oregon and heck, I've never had to worry about the press getting in my way when I'm after some birds. And by the way pheasants are not shot just for sport. They taste mighty good, and don't worry, God approves that message!
Golly gee, Oregon Jim... While you all's goin' back ta yer country roots in runnin' down Huckabee's huntin' as violatin' the "Basic Rules" of hunting,

aren't you violating the "Basic Rules" of balanced journalism with this one-sided hit-piece?
At that range, even if they'd been aiming directly at the reporters, it is extremely unlikely that any of the shot would have hit anyone, and if it did it would have bounced off.
A reply to Mr. "It would have bounced off!:
I shoot trap at 75yrs on some long shots, and the #8 shot certainly does not bounce off them. You are welcome to go downrange and tell me what it feels like!

Clearly Huckabee's poor form was due to global warming. Were it not for this Bush-induced global calamity, Huckabee would've hit his intended target, that is said reporter.

keep it up Huckabee keep shooting the bastards

At least we know he's qualified for VP...

What are the dates for the lawyer/reporter season in Iowa?

Nothing says praise jesus like blowing the crap out of a small defenseless animal with an enormous frigging shot gun. Idiot.

So Cheney shoots a lawyer when he is hunting, and Huckabee shoots at Journalists, I fail to see what the problem is.

Huckabee’s party turned toward a cluster of reporters and cameramen and, when they kicked up a pheasant, fired shotgun blasts over the group’s heads.

I can't vote for him, HE MISSED.
And this comment, we saved for last:
Pastor Huckabee is a modern-day Jed Clampett. And with a little more sloppy shooting, he might even find an oil field and solve the energy crisis.

Seven Hillary Clinton Iowa Quotes

Clinton Thoughts From An Iowa Livestock Auction Barn

"I know you're going to inspect me. You can look inside my mouth if you want."

Heavens!

"I've been to cattle barns before and sales before, in Arkansas, but I've never felt like I was the one that was being bid on."

"I know you're going to inspect me. You can look inside my mouth if you want. I hope by the end of my time with you I can make the case for my candidacy and to ask you to consider caucusing for me."

"I could not be more pumped up."

"It all comes down to one question: who is ready and able to make the changes we need on Day One in the White House."

"We are ready for a new beginning."

"Countries that deny women their rights are often countries we have problems with, aren't they?"

"Who would I leave out? Who would get to decide?"
--On Health Care on the House

Standing atop a stage in a livestock auction barn, Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton likened the experience to her quest to woo undecided voters in the closing days before Iowa's pivotal caucuses.

Next month, Iowa Democrats will decide.

2008 Candidates Square Off in Thrilling Aerial Battle in the Skies Above Iowa

A DBKP World Exclusive!

Hillary Vs. Ron Paul

Clinton Claims Control of the Skies

The 2008 Presidential campaign turned violent yesterday when candidates clashed in the skies above Iowa. History was made and you are there!

Crack DBKP photographer RidesAPaleHorse
happened to be there and files these pictures.

The Ron Paul Blimp got the first shot in this thrilling battle above the rooftops of Des Moines.

The aerial forces of former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, wasted no time in striking back at the sitting duck that the Paul airship had become. The Hill-A-Copter scores a direct hit and the blimp never got another chance.

Hillary celebrates the victory by her heavier-than-air forces in this DBKP World Exclusive!

Other candidates may think twice before tackling HRC above ground.

The Clinton campaign was quick to claim their candidate's "experience" as the deciding factor in victory.

A HRC campaign spokesman also stated that "no cocaine was involved" in the aerial duel.

As one observer put it, "Paul's Blimp was done in by a stunning display of "Bitchkrieg".

Breath-taking.

Look! Up in the Sky! It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's Hill-A-Copter!

You gotta give her credit--Hillary's not letting her fall in the polls get her down.

The former First Lady takes to the air in an effort to bolster her sagging ratings in Iowa.
It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a Hill-A-Copter!

Or so the Clinton camp has branded a helicopter that the candidate will fly around in during her "Every County Counts Tour" across Iowa, beginning Sunday.

Campaign staffers are calling the tour a five-day blitz across Iowa's 99 counties, but Clinton herself will only appear in 12. Husband/President Bill and "others" will hit the remaining 87 checkerboard jurisdictions that make up the Hawkeye State.

“In the final days before the Iowa caucuses, I want to tap into that spirit so that every voice is heard on caucus night for universal health care, a stronger economy and an end to the war in Iraq,” Candidate Clinton said last night in Iowa, according to a press release.
This is exciting. Almost like the "Perils of Pauline".

Will the Hill-A-Copter work?

Will Hillary rescue her sinking campaign ship using the power of a heavier than air device?

Tune in next month for the answers!

Past Media Darlings McCain, Dean Might Warn Huckabee: The Press Is A Fickle Lover

Any candidate that is the media's darling ought to start looking over his shoulder.

Mike Huckabee has joined the ranks of such early campaign 'Media Next Big Things' as John Dean and John McCain. Both fascinated the media in early campaigning.

They fascinated the voters to a lesser extent.

Candidates should beware when journalists trot out that Pre-Primary Label of Doom--"groundswell". As in what reporters think they'd hear, if they had put their ears to the grounds anywhere other than the in press tent.

Also, unlike Iraqi War strategy, this is one "surge" they can get behind.

Huckabee is the latest groundsweller. The word usually signifies the support a candidate suddenly receives from press regulars tired of writing about nothing.

At least the NY Times' ADAM NAGOURNEY had the good sense to dampen some of the recent enthusiasm showered on the former Arkansas governor in the press.

Nagourney started out upbeat.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for this to happen,” Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, said by telephone Sunday as he prepared to board an airplane here. “It’s everything we’ve been working for.”
The article showcases some concerns of the Huckabee campaign.

The biggest concern should be the one that journalists point to while touting Huck as the Next Big Thing.
The Des Moines Register’s poll found that support for Mr. Huckabee had gone from 12 percent in October to 29 percent now. That and other recent polls suggest that Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Romney are in an extremely tight contest. That showing came despite the fact that Mr. Huckabee has been hugely outspent by Mr. Romney on television and has not campaigned in Iowa since Nov. 8.
All the breathless reporting of Huckabee centers around the fact that his poll numbers are up to--29%?

In Iowa.

In December.

This Huckabee press spin is nice; be reminded though, the attention showered today can quickly disappear when another candidate starts looking "sexier".

Still, one can't begrudge the attention Mike Huckabee's been getting lately: he's a likable fellow and the news people do need something to write about. It's really harmless fun when you think about it. Still, Mike Huckabee might want to cast a backwards glance over his shoulder.

Just to see if anybody other than the press is back there.

Iowa Farm Family Buried By Massive Tidal Wave Of Corn

In a scene straight out of an agricultural horror film an Iowa family barely escaped with their lives after a massive tidal wave of corn destroyed their home.

DES MOINES, Iowa---- A grain bin collapsed and sent a tidal wave of corn into a home, sweeping it off its foundation, trapping a family of four and shaking the ground for miles.

One man was taken to a hospital after being buried for hours in grain and debris in Hillsboro in southeast Iowa.

The bin -- about 100 feet in diameter, 90 feet high and containing more than 500,000 bushels of corn -- collapsed Monday evening. The force of the grain broke the walls of Jesse and Jennifer Kellett's home and sent the roof crashing down.

''The force actually took the house with the corn and shoved it and crushed it,'' Dan Wesely, Henry County chief sheriff's deputy, said Tuesday.
