Hillary and Obama: Astrological "Styles" of Communication

Astrologist Beth Turnage of Astrology Explored takes a look at the "communication styles" of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and how their astrological "makeup" may determine those types of styles:
The mail came Saturday, just before Super Tuesday to our Connecticut household, bearing Hillary’s campaign piece to my husband and a separate one addressed to me.

I picked up the one addressed to my husband and my
daughter picked up the one addressed to me.

"Look at this," I said, "Hillary is comparing her solutions to Barak’s."

My daughter began to read the campaign flier in her hand out loud. It was then that I realized that the two pieces were substantially different. When I remarked on it, she said “Look, mom, this piece is prettier.” Indeed, the one addressed to me had more pictures and words, and upon further examination, a phone number for the recipient to call if they had any questions.

Were these two pieces strategically designed for one set to go to
women, and the other to men, presenting essentially the same message, but in a different style? And if so, what does this tell us about the communication style of America’s first viable female candidate for the highest office in the land? How does this compare with the communications style of her closest rival?

Astrologically, Hillary has Mercury, the planet representing her thinking processes and her communications style, in the power packed sign of Scorpio. This position alone is difficult for anyone to handle, but Hillary also has Scorpio for her Sun with Chiron and Venus as well as her South Node.

Here is an individual who has an instinctual grasp of power and control of what it takes to manipulate along with a harmonious aspect to Uranus, the ability to do so with the masses. However, in challenge aspect to the planet of action, Mars, it gives her arguments and her actions, a sharp, unyielding edge, resistant to establishing rapport with her audience. It is also what gives people a reason to dislike her as some people vehemently do.

By contrast, Barak Obama has Mercury in the expansive sign of Leo. This lends an aura of authority and charisma to his oratory, drawing people to his message in an almost hypnotic manner.

Leo has the gift of making you feel special just by being in their presence. It is mind candy in the highest form, one that many Americans are gobbling up. It's not that he doesn’t believe his message, he certainly does. But in opposition to the expansive planet, Jupiter in Aquarius, we have the symbolic image of hot air. In other words, he promises more than he can deliver.

Scorpio issues are basically one of trust, and we are seeing this in our reactions to Hillary, a woman candidate for president.

Can we trust a woman to a make decisions for us? Can we trust her ability to make strategic decisions? Can we trust that she won't make fundamental mistakes that will ultimately harm us?

We need to know the answers to these questions before we cast our vote.

Hillary says she has substance. She certainly does. With Scorpio, she does not commit to a position until she is absolutely sure it is the correct one. Scorpios protect themselves by not revealing. Withholding and lacking in spontaneity, Scorpio natives can appear aloof and unfeeling, not what we need to see when we are looking for the answer as to whether or not to vote for her.

Hillary’s communication style isn't helping her in this regard. It's her biggest obstacle, not any political rival, in securing the presidency.

Beth made a good observation in regards to Hillary and Obama's styles of communication. She noted that Hillary has Mercury in Scorpio with her sun sign in Scorpio which highlights Hillary's "instinctual" grasp of "power and control" with the ability to "manipulate" the masses.

Beth points out that Obama's Mercury in his sun sign Leo lends him "charisma" with his oratory skills, how he is able to draw people in with his authoritative style and almost "hypnotic" manner.

Beth points out that voters might grapple with the issue of whether a woman can lead and how Hillary's Scorpio tendencies of not revealing her positions until she is sure they are right ones, how her Scorpio "aloofness" and lack of "spontaneity" hampers the voters ability to "get to know her."

Beth points out that Obama, while being authoritative and believing his own message has Jupiter in Aquarius, a combination which can mean "hot air."

Communication styles are imperative. Hillary is shrewd enough to have sent out campaign fliers with basically the same message but tailored for each focus group. So what she lacks in personal style she makes up delegating to someone with good marketing skills in regards to getting her message out.

Obama's style is more positive for voters who feel they must have some sort of "connection" in order to vote (trust) for someone.

In short, Obama is likeable, the quintessential Leo, charismatic, a good leader. Hillary is the typical Scorpio, serious, aloof, but powerful, shrewd, and as history has shown, manipulative.

Time and the stars will tell if either Hillary or Obama's "style" will carry them to the White House in 2008.

Mitt Romney: Is a Win Written in the Planets and Stars?

Today we're taking a closer look at Mitt Romney's astrology in relation to the upcoming 2008 Presidential election. Romney just won the Michigan Primary with McCain coming in second. How will Romney's future fare further down the astrological line?

According to Celebrity Astrology, Mitt Romney is a Pisces with his moon in Scorpio and Gemini his rising sign.
This Pisces is a dreamer, a peacemaker and a natural politician.
There seems to be two different birth times used for Romney, one is at 9:51 AM EST and the other is 12 noon, the time used when a person's time of birth is unknown.

Astrologer Phillip Brown at Astro Future Trends looks at Romney's chances on Feb. 5, the date of the Super Tuesday primaries. Brown has used the 12 Noon time for Romney's chart:
Mitt Romney: Saturn on Feb. 5 will be opposing his unassuming Pisces Mars, indicating difficulties and blocked efforts. It’s hard to see this one taking off on Feb. 5. Source - Astro Future Trends

From Acumind:

Mitt has been riding the crest of the wave of Pluto sesqu'ing natal Pluto, feeling fully in power, and now, at the end of 2007, it's starting to show the leak. That leak is Neptune moving in to sesquiquadrate itself by retro'ing on May 26th of 2008, and then sesqu'ing itself three times in 2009 while Chiron sesquis it as well, since the two are nearly conjunct, and will remain in tandem til...2014. Chiron adds wounding to scandal or revelation over what had been hidden.
The power point of the Nep/Pluto YOD, is pointing at the end of Cancer. It's been bouncing off his Uranus since about 1992-3, where he broke the mold and gained prominence. Now, it's moving into the Saturn energy. That might be the change in attitude, making him more conservative now, than he was then. It also says that the free wheeling he had with Uranus, is going to wane, and it'll be harder to gain what he wants. It's in the Sheep/Sm. Intestine area of the Chinese overlay, so needs to be careful with whom he associates. Uranus is leaving the 10th house of career, moving in on his sun - which could bring some sudden changes in April and August of 2008, but Neptune moves thru the 10th of career - not indicative of high public office. By next year, Saturn starts moving thru the 4th house, at the bottom of the chart, providing a solid base for the high falutin' Neptune in the 10th, but reminds him of the sternness of his childhood.

The Strange House has the day of the election, November 4th, prediction for Romney:

Moon Opposite Saturn applying (emotion confronts effort)
You are so gloomy that others avoid you. Do not make decisions in your current emotional state. Take the time to rest and recharge.

Neptune Square Jupiter applying (impression strains expansion)
Do your best to maintain a strong sense of reality. You may feel that you can do anything. But you, like anyone, have limitations. Avoid anything, including a religious or self-help movement, that sounds too good to be true. It probably is.

Neptune Sextile Mars applying (impression supports action)
You can do a lot to reach your goals if you are realistic. Subvert your ego for higher purpose. Do not expect concrete, materialistic results. Ultimately, you will be happier if you are altruistic.

Mars Opposite Sun separating (action confronts power)
You encounter either opposition to or recognition of your plans or actions. How you handle yourself is crucial. Defend your goals without compromising your position. Be diplomatic.

For a further look at Romney and the other candidate's Election Day predictions, The Strange House has them listed.

From Maya Del Mar's Daykeeper Journal:

Saturn at 2 Leo exactly conjoins a Black Hole, which could indicate attaining the most powerful executive office on the planet, or the disappearance of Romney’s presidential aspirations down an Alice in Wonderland-like rabbit hole.

On Election Day, 4 November 2008, an exact opposition of Saturn and Uranus dominates the sky, perhaps impelling an unexpected outcome in the race for the presidency. This polarity straddles Romney’s 21 Pisces Sun from 18 Virgo to Pisces, and is squared by transit Venus at 19 Sagittarius, conjunct a Black Hole, implying that women may be decisive in the decision, and their choice may be impossible to pin down in advance. The transit Sun that day at 12 Scorpio squares Romney’s Pluto, perhaps igniting or augmenting his personal power, and Mars at 21 Scorpio is exactly trine his Sun, possibly energizing his efforts, should he be the nominee. But there is a long way to go to get to that point, and it remains to be seen if Romney has what it takes to pull it off.

Phillip Brown from Astro Future Trends’ prediction for Romney on Super Tuesday writes that Saturn will be opposing Romney’s Pisces Mars.

From Accumind:

Uranus is leaving the 10th house of career, moving in on his sun - which could bring some sudden changes in April and August of 2008, but Neptune moves thru the 10th of career - not indicative of high public office.

The Strange House has their prediction of Mars opposing Romney’s sun on Election Day, November 4th:

Mars Opposite Sun separating (action confronts power)
You encounter either opposition to or recognition of your plans or actions. How you handle yourself is crucial. Defend your goals without compromising your position. Be diplomatic.
Maya Del Mar’s Daykeeper Journal predicts a possible win for Romney, or not.
Pluto at 11 Leo is allied with Saturn at 2 Leo and also conjoins the Black Hole at 9 Leo. This can be a very powerful combination, but also a potentially dangerous one. Saturn linked to Pluto in this fashion may compel Romney to continue the disastrous perversion of the office of Chief Executive along the Plutonian power-grab lines begun by George W. Bush, following the “Unitary Executive” principle so beloved of neocon philosophers. The temptation to augment his personal power by strengthening the presidency to the detriment of the other co-equal branches of government, even at the price of our democracy, will be a strong one.
Del Mar goes on to write about the “opposition of Saturn and Uranus” on Election Day which means an “unexpected outcome.”
The transit Sun that day at 12 Scorpio squares Romney’s Pluto, perhaps igniting or augmenting his personal power, and Mars at 21 Scorpio is exactly trine his Sun, possibly energizing his efforts, should he be the nominee.
In Summary:

It seems that the astrologers cannot precisely predict a win for Romney and part of this may be due to the aspects which occur on Election Day itself, the “opposition of Saturn and Uranus,” meaning an unexpected outcome.

For those of us into politics, an “unexpected” outcome is intriguing.

So far the outcome of primaries have been illusive to the political pundits. Obama was predicted to be on a roll after his win in the Iowa Caucuses. Huckabee was the man of the hour after the Iowa conservatives gave him the nod.

Hillary and John McCain became the Comeback Kids in New Hampshire and Romney just won Michigan. According to astrologers the day of the General Election may be the same.

Between the astrologer’s predictions and political pundits, someone is bound to get it right.
