Muslims and America

From the Library of Email Knowledge

The question was put to a man who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years: "Can a 'good' Muslim be a good American?

The following are his replies:

Can a "good" Muslim be a good American?

Theologically -NO.
Because his allegiance is to Allah,
the moon god of Arabia
01

Religiously - NO.
Because no other religion is accepted
by his Allah except Islam (Quran, 2:256)
02

Scripturally - NO.
Because his allegianceis to
the five pillars of Islam and the Quran (Koran).
04

Geographically -NO.
Because his allegiance is to Mecca,
to which he turns in prayer five times a day
04

Socially - NO.
Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him
to make friends with Christians or Jews.
05

Politically - no.
Because he must submit to the mullah (spiritual leaders),
who teach annihilation of Israel and Destruction of America
the great Satan.
06

Domestically - no.
Because he is instructed to marry four women and
beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34).
07

Intellectually - no.
Because he cannot accept the American Constitution
since it is based on Biblical principles
and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.
09

Philosophically - no.
Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran
do not allow freedom of religion and expression.
Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist.
Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually - no.
Because when we declare 'one nation under God,'
the Christian's God is loving and kind,
while Allah is NEVER referred to as heavenly father,
nor is he ever called love in The Quran's 99 excellent names.

Therefore after much study and deliberation....perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be both 'good' Muslims and good Americans.

Call it what you wish....it's still the truth.

If you find yourself intellectually in agreement with the above statements, perhaps you will share this with your friends. The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future.

Pass it on, Fellow Americans.

This war is MUCH bigger than most Americans know or can understand.

Obama and Culture Shock

Coming Soon to an Election Near You
Barack Obama and Islam

[ED. NOTE: Billy Rojas--formerly assigned to the US Navy as an instructor with the USS Enterprise--sent us this article on Friday and we decided to post it on Sunday, a day when more people will have the time to consider its relevant questions.

It has since appeared at several locations on the Internet. Rojas, who has his own page on the Islam Watch website, agreed to write an exclusive DBKP introduction to the article, which touches on a number of important points about Barack Obama and his Muslim connections and what it all might mean for America.]

INTRODUCTION by Billy Rojas

This article was written with two objectives clearly in mind:First, there is a need for a factual overview of all legitimate Obama connections to Islam.

As the Washington Post reported in a front page news story on February 29, the Web is awash with dubious allegations, rumors based on half truths, and unresearched allegations.

It really does no-one the least good to give credence to such material and can easily have the effect of discrediting the genuine concern that millions of Americans have about Obama and Islam. And, after all, almost every day Muslims are in the news, somewhere, attacking America either verbally or with bombs.

Secondly, a very compelling case can be made to distrust Obama's positions on religion generally and on Islam specifically. This is very much needed as an antidote to what amounts to an "religious revival" now sweeping the Democratic Party, misleading multitudes in the process.

The Obama bubble has to be made to burst before it causes serous political damage everywhere.

A very strong case can be made that has the effect of showing exactly where to be most concerned about Obama , objectively, in ways that the MSM cannot deny.

So far, because so much of the material critical of the Senator is based on inadequate understanding of Islam--sometimes of Christianity, for that matter--the TV networks and almost all of the big city newspapers have been able to dismiss these criticisms. The objective of "Obama and Culture Shock" is to provide people with solid grounds for criticisms that can withstand any test.

There also are political considerations. While a bad fall for Obama can be seen as beneficial to Hillary Clinton, it is just as likely that making Obama and Islam into a public issue would also have the effect of exposing Hillary's ignorance of the subject and possibly prompt her to make her own ill-advised comments. You don't need
to guess that under no circumstances would I vote for either.

As a former teacher of Comparative Religion and related fields, I think I have the kind of knowledge base that is required. Indeed, I cringed recently, listening to Bay Buchanan trying to grapple with the question of Obama's links to Islam. Even someone as obviously bright and informed as she is, simply had no idea how to deal with the topic and essentially floundered miserably about it on national TV.

We can do better than that, can't we?

There is much more to say about Islam and Obama but the article gets us into the most important basics. It is, hopefully you will agree, a sound place to begin and upon which to start to build a persuasive case in opposition to the candidacy of Barack Obama, someone whose policies , if he became president, assuredly would cause far more harm to our country than anything else,

As a bachelor in good standing I am free to indulge in as many harem fantasies as my heart desires. These reveries have little or no impact on American culture and little or no impact on US politics, either. Things are rather different when discussing Barack Obama, front runner for the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States.

Not that Obama has ever publicly expressed a favorable opinion on the subject of polygamy. At least none has ever come to my attention. However, a February 26, 2008 article by Nicholas Kristoff calls to everyone's attention some undeniable facts about Obama's family history that merit public discussion that is unlikely in the extreme to be brought up in the Democratic campaign. To do so would be regarded as insensitive, anti--multi-culturalist, and politically incorrect.

The point is not that any man should be held responsible for the "sins of his father," but that the background of any man elected to the highest office to which a US citizen can aspire, the presidency, deserves to be thoroughly
investigated from every relevant perspective.

As someone with Mormon friends, even though I am not Mormon, I can understand the argument that Latter-Day Saints make about "celestial marriage." As long as it is completely voluntary, involving people of legal age, and regarded a lifelong responsibility, then free choice ought to prevail.

And, after all, the Hebrew Bible ( the Old Testament ) is replete with examples of polygyny .Solomon is said to have had scores of wives, other monarchs and respected men of the community had several wives, and the patriarch, Abraham, had two wives himself as well as at least one concubine No less than Martin Luther sanctioned the practice under certain conditions. And, needless to say, Brigham Young, after whom nationally famous BYU is named, had 27 wives and said that plural marriage was divinely sanctioned.

Plus we have de facto polygyny already.

How many women have been more-or-less the wives of Hugh Heffner? How many male Rock stars and celebrity athletes have bedded women by the hundreds?

Or celebrity politicians
like Bill Clinton ? And what is serial monogamy but polygyny on the installment plan ?

What does this have to do with Barrack Obama ?

It turns out that his grandfather, who once was a Christian, became a Muslim who had four wives. It also turns out the Barrack Hussein Obama,Senior, the father of the Senator, had two wives, his mother being # 2. People in
Kenya who knew the father affirm this fact as does the Senator himself.

That is, since the father was also a convert from Christianity to Islam he also was polygynous and did not divorce his first wife when he married the woman who was to become Barack Jr's mother.

There are several serious questions this raises. But before we get to them, it should be made clear that the photograph that first appeared on the Drudge Report showing the Senator wearing Muslim garb that is common
in Somalia and parts of Kenya is also very relevant.

The fact that both Obama's grandfather and father were Christians who converted to Islam has to be regarded as very important. This is NOT something that any rational voter should be expected to ignore.

Quite the contrary.

This suggests a pattern . Yes, Obama makes much of his presumed Christian faith. But just how much confidence can anyone have in his protestations of sincerity when his self-proclaimed spiritual guru, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has made repeated public statements that have praised Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam in uncompromisingly glowing terms?

Consider a speech that Farrakhan delivered one month prior to receiving the highest award that Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ , of Chicago, can give. This is its " Lifetime Achievement Trumpeter Award, "bestowed on Farrakhan in December of 2007, somewhat more than 2 months ago as this is being written. And the November / December 2007 issue of the magazine published by the church, The Trumpet, congratulated Farrakhan for his " honesty and integrity," calling him a giant among African-Americans to whom all should turn for inspiration.

That is, before Rev. Wright gave Farrakhan the award, he knew, full well, what the Nation of Islam leader had said only a few weeks previously, This, as reported by NewsMax,com -

“Do you know some of these Satanic Jews have taken over BET [the Black Entertainment
Network]? Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the
record industry, movie industry, and television. And they make us look like we’re the
murderers; we look like we’re the gangsters, but we’re punk stuff.”

These words were spoken on November 11, 2007.

Rev. Wright sees nothing wrong with such sentiments ? And apparently he sees nothing wrong, either, with Farrakhan's standard-fare sermonizing, repeated ad nauseam to all who will listen: White people are "blue eyed devils" and Jews are "bloodsuckers" who control the media and government.

The press has made much of Obama's education at Columbia University and Harvard Law School. Clearly he is a smart man. Are we supposed to believe that he was unaware of the implications of the award bestowed by his church upon Louis Farrakhan ? Are we also supposed to believe that an award with considerable importance that had to have real impact on the presidential aspirations of Barack Obama was not discussed with the Senator?

There is no question that Obama repudiated Farrakhan and his anti-Semitic views on January 15, 2008.. But why then ?

Clearly he had to do so , he had become a serous contender for the nomination of his party. The vital question, therefore, is: Why didn't he do so long before ? Instead, there seems to be no evidence that he had any problems of consequence with the decision by his church and Rev Wright to honor Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

This is not intended to give credence to rumors and disinformation campaigns to the effect that Obama is a "secret Muslim." But it IS to say that there are justifiable fears about his relationship to Islam. These fears are captured neatly in an edited photograph posted on the Free Republic web site-

Considering the fact that both his grandfather and father were Christians who then converted to Islam , what assurances do we have that Obama won't do likewise and follow the course taken years ago by Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali ?

We have no such assurances.

Which is troubling given the pro-Muslim sentiments expressed openly at Trinity United Church, a member congregation of the UCC, the United Church of Christ, which has an outlook about such matters that is indistinguishable from that of the Unitarians.

Then there is this oddity.

Exactly how much credence to place in the document is an open question, but there exists a statement by one Usama K Dakdok, president of The Straight Way of Grace Ministry, recounting a conversation he had in which he telephoned Trinity and made inquiries about joining. Four other people were listening to the conversation at the time, apparently fairly recently.

That is, they presumably can verify Dakdok's report.

The crux of things is that a membership officer at the church told Dakdok that, "yes, Muslims are members of our church." Dadok had asked about this since he made it clear ( by way of a detective's device ) that he himself was a Muslim but liked the church and wanted to join.

To the extent this is true -the document is also available at Free Republic--it means that Barack Obama has been a member of a congregation for 20 years in which he has mingled with Muslims on at least an occasional basis. But even if there are no Muslim members, clearly he has belonged to a "church" that decade after decade has had a positive outlook toward Islam. And, after all, he is well aware that his entire family in Kenya, cousins, aunts and uncles, etc, plus his devout half-brother, are all Muslim believers.

And do not even try to say that this has no influence on Obama. It has to have an influence and the only question that really matters is "how much ? "

The inference to draw is that it is certainly thinkable that in the future Barack Obama might follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father and become a Muslim himself. He already has a Muslim middle name, Hussein, which he can hardly overlook or forget . If this was to happen it could well be an unmitigated disaster for the United States.

Finally let us deal with the subject of polygamy -more properly "polygyny." I was unable to locate any photographs showing Obama's father and his two wives together, or the two women together. But I did find a picture that simulates what the women might have looked like next to each other. It was chosen with some care to present them in as positive light as possible, simply as two attractive women one of whom was Barack's mother, Ann Dunham.

To say the least, I do not disparage inter-racial families. They are pretty much like other families, some of which are "made in heaven," some of which are fiascos, and everything in between.

After all, my name, "Rojas," comes from my father, a dark-skinned Filipino who legally adopted me while I still was an infant. I am as Caucasian as anyone gets genetically but always knew my Dad as a good and hard working man, a great role model, who cared for me as much as he did any of the other children in the household whom he fathered .

He also was the primary reason for my lifelong scholarly ( and other ) interests in Asia and Asian religions. No way will I say that inter-racial families are "bad."

But Americans have every right to at least consider what they may be getting into.

It is an entirely legitimate question to ask: "What will the fact that his father was a polygamist mean to Obama should he be elected? " How might this effect his judgement? Would he try to legitimate polygamous marriages in the United States?

Which is not--in his case--about Mormons in Utah or northern Arizona, but about Muslims living on Long island or in Dearborn, Michigan or in LA. Such a question has extra meaning since his grandfather had four ( 4 ) wives
and did so as a practicing Muslim.

I was also unable to find a photograph of Obama's grandfather and his four wives but another simulation makes the point well enough. Here is what the women may have looked like in the community where the Obama family lived when Barack's father was still at home in Kenya -

Like it or not, the photograph of Obama wearing traditional Somali clothing, as was the fashion in his father's home village, suggests the appearance of his grandfather's harem. Exactly why shouldn't American voters be concerned?

Exactly why shouldn't Americans freely discuss what is implied in all of this? If this photo showed your grandfather's four wives it would have no relevance to any of your political views?

Don't be absurd, of course it would.

Americans have every right to be concerned and to discuss the implications.

An article by Phyllis Chesler ( posted at Chesler Chronicles ), makes the point that at a minimum we might get our " first Muslim president. " What she had in mind was analogous to the epithet given Bill Clinton, as America's first Black president.

The " best " we could hope for would be pro-Muslim policies that " out-Bush"
George W Bush. and his pro-Muslim policies replete with hand-holding with Saudi royals.

The worst we might end up with? Do we really want to contemplate any such thing? After all, we are at war with Muslim extremism, with Islamic terrorists of various types, and with what has rightly been called "Islamofascism."

All of these issues deserve to be discussed by the American public.

But--surprise, surprise--none of this is being discussed by American citizens except the relative few who understand what is at stake and who participate in Internet forums. The mainstream news media simply will
not deal with such matters--at all.

It de facto censors all such discussion.

This is inexcusable.

It is also understandable, given the almost universal religious illiteracy that prevails at all TV networks and nearly all major metropolitan daily newspapers. And bad as such ignorance is, it is made worse by attitudes of Political Correctness that pervade the news media, to the effect that it is off limits to offer any honest criticisms of Islam whatsoever out of fear of offending Muslims.

It is OK to criticize Evangelicals at will, to criticize the Catholic Church whenever it is convenient to do so, and to criticize still other religions, but Islam is off limits.

After all, what TV network wants a celebrity news anchor assassinated by a Muslim crazy; what newspaper wants a leading editor killed by an Islamic terrorist?

But this is EXACTLY the point.

And now Americans are seriously considering voting for someone with deep Muslim roots as our nations president?

With no debate on the subject?

With no informed discussion in the news media?

What do you call that ? It seems to me that there is only one good answer to the question, call it what it is: Gross irresponsibility, even criminal negligence, it is that unjustifiable.

Polish Exorcisms Available For Internet Addicts

Exorcisms are on the rise in Poland and across Europe with more trained priests ready to battle the Devil, evil, and the requisite demons who accompany them. We decided to look into the Ritual of Exorcism and the steps taken to perform one.

According to a story in the Boston Globe there's been a resurgence in exorcisms performed by Catholic priests and other exorcist trained laymen. Courses are being taught in a Catholic university in Rome in exorcisms and the Church, in 1999, formally "revised and upheld the ritual for the first time in almost 400 years."

According to the Church, evil is on an upswing with people's lax attitudes about attending Mass and exposure to "doors of evil" such as New Age therapies, alternative religions, internet junkies and yoga enthusiasts.

Plans are under way in Poland to build the area's only ExorcismsRus center:
The Rev. Andrzej Trojanowski, a soft-spoken Pole, plans to build a "spiritual oasis" that will serve as Europe's only center dedicated to performing exorcisms. With the blessing of the local Catholic archbishop and theological support from the Vatican, the center will aid a growing number of Poles possessed by evil forces or the devil himself, he said.
The website, St. Michael, has some tips on whether one is actually possessed by demons and what to avoid in order to stay away from potential demon-infested activities:
  • The Ouija board is a popular occult board game and there is also Dungeons and Dragons. Satan's main target in Dungeons and Dragons game is our youth. With Dungeons and Dragons, the most powerful and successful players are those who use magic. There is a Dungeons Master Guide that even teaches new beginners how to communicate with the dead, cast spells, and learn to chant.
  • The use of magic revolves around evil spirits, psychic abilities and contacting spirits. Magic is a power that does not involve God. It is a power that is derived from such things as voodoo, sorcery, primitive religions and Satanism. Most witches who use magic swear that they do not worship Satan but worship the gods and goddesses of nature (The gods and goddesses of nature are hardly Jesus Christ! Of course they worship Satan! Do not let someone who practices this occult tell you otherwise!). Many of these individuals are unknown because they blend in quite well. They can be found attending church services in every denomination and they practice their magic on the side. If someone tells you white magic is ok--don't believe them!!
  • Use of new age tools such as crystals, divination, astrology, tarot cards, crystal balls, reincarnation, pendulums, Yoga, Transcendental Meditation
  • Those who make a pact with Satan or attend Satanic services or rituals.
  • Going to Séances, fortune tellers, Horoscopes, or spiritualist meetings for the purpose of contact the dead.
  • Those who use alcohol or mind changing drugs such as LSD, cocaine, marijuana
  • Sex out of wedlock, active homosexuals, masturbation, adultery
  • Those who have an abortion
  • Those who try to commit suicidal or have suicidal tendencies.
  • There are also ways the "innocent" can be victimized by evil:
In some cases, evil spirits enter an innocent victim. The victim may be an unborn baby who is cursed from the mother's womb. The curse can be from a jealous relative, friend, enemy, or even the child's own parents.

Innocent victims may also include children who are not loved, who are mistreated or abused or rejection by other children, siblings, parents, etc. The abuse can range from sexual abuse, mental abuse, or physical abuse.

There are standard rules and procedures when performing an exorcism such as the priest wearing an alb and purple stole before he begins the prayer. He will make the sign of the cross over the demon possessed and then wrap one end of the stole around the victim's neck:
One may have two normal sized stoles sewn together in order to have a very long stole to extend from the priest to the victim's neck. It is truly amazing how the blessed stole calms and controls the possessed person. Certainly one initially may encounter violent reactions, but that is to be expected. The stole not only symbolizes, but demonstrates the power of the priesthood. Jesus binds the evil spirits with the use of this sacramental.
The priest is instructed to place his right hand on the devil inflicted's head and a Bible must be close by for "questioning and commanding the demons to respond."

One wonders what type of rapport the priest finds when conversing with the demons who possess the poor victim? Are some demons better spoken, have a higher intellect than others?

The Bible comes in handy as some poor souls point out to the priest the "avenue" with which evil was able to enter them:
After invoking the Holy Spirit, there is surprising response and confirmation, which are keys to opening up and freeing the person. For example, a woman who had been a war orphan revealed through scripture that she was not baptized. Another woman opened the Bible to Tobias where it stated that she was not married in the church. A couple opened the Bible to the Old testament reading on abortion, which confirmed, at some point to unforgiven sin. Others opened to a passage focusing on a generational curse. While still others read a verse on incest in the family. One girl indicated the story of Jacob and Essau. Her twin brother was murdered at three months of age. She was the second to be born and like Jacob became the first through infanticide. Others have indicated a need for greater humility, faith and fasting. The Rite of Exorcism uses passages from Jn. 1:1-14; Mk. 16:15-18; Lk. 1:17-20; Lk. Source - St. Michael

Relics must be on hand, those are the rules. The "relics" must be "first class," those of a saint. Handkerchiefs touched by St. Paul, the "shadow" of St. Peter, or the Blessed Sacrament of Jesus.

Medals also come in handy. The medal of St. Benedict is known for warding of evil spirits along with the scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Rosary.

    The Rosary
The blessing of the rosary states, "Nos eriperes de potestate diaboli" Our Lord Jesus Christ through His life, death and resurrection has "snatched us from the power of the devil." Abundant graces are granted through proper recitation of the rosary, "Ab omni hoste visibili et invisibili et ubíque in hoc sáeculo liberetur" (from every enemy both visible and invisible and everywhere in this lifetime be freed). St. Dominic freed a heretic from 15,000 devils, when the man had blasphemed the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. St. Dominic preached on the fifteen mysteries of the rosary and asked the faithful to pray and meditate. For every mystery, 1,000 demons left him in the form of burning coals until he was delivered. The rosary is the chain that Our Lady uses to bind Satan. It is often seen in a possessed individual, that the demon is irritated and they complain that the rosary burns them and they often destroy the rosary. Source - St. Michael

The Crucifix is essential, "symbolic of the defeat of Satan through the death of Christ."
The long prayer for Solemn Blessing of the Crucifix, "Ut quóties triúmphum divínae humnilitátis, quae supérbiam nostri hostis dejecit" and (how often the divine humility has triumphed casting out the pride of our enemy). "Dignáre respícere, bene + dícere et Sancti + ficáre hanc creaturm incensi, ut omnes languores, omnesque imfirmitates, atque insidiar inimici, odorem ejus sentientes, efffugiant, et separatur a plasmate tuo; ut num quam lædatur amorsu antiqui serpentes" (Deign to care for bless and sanctify those being inflamed by passion and weakness, any sickness, deceits of the foe and suspicious resentments felt by them. Be cast out and driven away from your creature) and "Numquam lædatur a morsu antiqui derpentis" (Never to be hurt by the bite of the ancient serpent). Source - St. Michael
Guidelines have been established as to who can perform an exorcism. Priests must have explicit permission from higher-ups, the priest must be pious, prudent and have personal integrity.

The priest must be versed in all the tricks and shenanigans pulled by the evil entity.

The priest must be aware that "certain species" of the Devil cannot be overthrown unless faced with "prayer and fasting."

During the exorcism no ad-libbing by the priest. Only the words of the Bible must be used. The priest must also command the evil dweller to state just how he entered the host.

The priest must be humble and rely only on God for direction. The priest must remember that evil spirits may lie and not tell the truth. The priest must refrain from asking the demon any questions outside the reference of the Bible and exorcism, such as "what does your mother think about you being a demon?" or "just when did you "go evil?"

In summary, according to St. Michael, it is only through prayer, fasting, and humility on the part of the priest and the willingness of the victim to get rid of their demons can an exorcism be successful.

We wondered if those who became possessed through the internet, if the computer used could be also be considered a "vessel of evil" and therefore, should be destroyed?

There you have it, evil is on the rise throughout the world and the Church is responding by recognizing its centuries old, but still effective manner of ridding poor infected souls of the devil and his minions, exorcism.

Unfortunately for Americans, with a lifestyle that just begs evil to enter their souls, there's an acute shortage of qualified, highly trained exorcism specialists on hand, and since you are reading this with the help of the internet, you too, might just be in the same boat as us, possessed by evil.

If one can afford it, place yourself on the Polish Exorcist Center's waiting list, where an exorcism is just a passport and plane ticket away.

The Bible: Samurai Jesus, Teen Glossies and God The Smoter

The Bible, the book of the ages. First printed by Gutenberg in 1456, the Latin version replaced the time worn practice of hand copying onto paper, papyrus or parchment, the best selling book of all time has now gone nanotech, the entire Hebrew text of the Jewish Bible fitting onto a "space less than half the size of a grain of sugar".
JERUSALEM - Israeli scientists have inscribed the entire Hebrew text of the Jewish Bible onto a space less than half the size of a grain of sugar.

The nanotechnology experts at the Technion institute in Haifa say the book was etched on a surface that measures less than 0.01 square inch.

"It took us about an hour to etch the 300,000 words of the Bible onto a tiny silicon surface," said Ohad Zohar, the university's scientific adviser for educational programs. Technion's microscopic Bible was created by blasting tiny particles called gallium ions at the object. Source - New York Daily News
The attempt to "shrink" the Bible comes as no surprise as last year in Britain a children's Bible was found that was printed over a hundred years ago, one inch wide and one and half inch thick:
Feb. 9, 2007 — Around 106 years ago, someone slipped a copy of the world’s smallest complete Bible in a child’s boot and stuffed it into a cottage chimney cavity to ward off evil. Now British archaeologists have identified the book, which a renovator discovered while working on the cottage in central England's Ewerby. Source - Discovery

According to the New Yorker, the Bible continues to outsell all other publications, at least in the United States:
The familiar observation that the Bible is the best-selling book of all time obscures a more startling fact: the Bible is the best-selling book of the year, every year. Calculating how many Bibles are sold in the United States is a virtually impossible task, but a conservative estimate is that in 2005 Americans purchased some twenty-five million Bibles—twice as many as the most recent Harry Potter book. The amount spent annually on Bibles has been put at more than half a billion dollars.

    300 to 400 Year-Old Biblical Scrolls

A complete ancient Hebrew Torah Scroll of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament). These hand-written, one-of-a-kind pieces are approximately 300 to 400 years old. They were produced in the world’s oldest continually operating scriptorium, a 2,400-year old scriptorium in South Yemen, about 1,000 miles south of Israel. These are the same type of “Bible” that Jesus read, and quite possibly from the same scriptorium! They vary from scroll to scroll, as each is a unique manuscript, but most are 18 to 23 inches tall, and usually around 100 feet long. Source - Gold Room

1799-1800 Giant Macklin Bible Set The largest Bible ever printed. Beautifully illustrated with many huge steel-cut engravings in six absolutely HUGE volumes measuring nearly two feet tall by 16 inches wide (and six volumes thick). This Bible set, weighing well over 100 pounds, was done for King Charles. The last set sold at auction for over $25,000. Source - Gold Room
The newest fad in Bibles are contemporary versions such as the Manga Bible and the New Testament "Revolve".

Written by Ajinbayo Akinsiku, the Manga Bible is written in manga, the Japanese style of graphic novels.

Mr. Akinsiku says his Son of God is “a samurai stranger who’s come to town, in silhouette,” here to shake things up in a new, much-abridged version of the Bible rooted in manga, the Japanese form of graphic novels.

“We present things in a very brazen way,” said Mr. Akinsiku, who hopes to become an Anglican priest and who is the author of “The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation.” “Christ is a hard guy, seeking revolution and revolt, a tough guy.” Source - New York Times

These types of Bibles are known as "niche" Bibles, aimed at a particular audience. The new "Revolve" Bible is aimed squarely at teen girls.

Critics call Revolve New Testament nothing more than a splashy glossy magazine for girls. The Amazon.com blurb for the Bible:

Revolve is back, and more fresh and up-to-date than ever! Girls will be thrilled to hear that the third edition of this best-selling Bible is available with all new sidebars, features, and images but the same Bible text! The NCV innovation of a New Testament in a magazine format still succeeds at showing teens that the Bible is entirely understandable and relevant to their lives. Source - Amazon
Reviews on Amazon were on the most part positive:
New stories, hip design and very relative to teens. My oldest had one of these from a couple years back. Now my youngest has this one. And while they read their bible whether it's in this format or not, THIS FORMAT draws them in making them want to learn and search and dig and read and know their God. I recommend these bibles to any parent of a teenager.

While others were not so glowing:

Yes, leave it up to the Christian Publishing Industry to keep distorting Christianity through stupifyingly misleading dribble like this. How the idea for this Bible was probably pitched: "Hey, since our fundamenalist theology isn't working anymore in a culture that increasingly values education and critical literacy, let's package our same old tired evangelicalism in glossy format and feed the already bursting world of "have it your way" burger consumerism with Bibles that misrepresent what the Bible is even for in the first place." Am I being a bit too sarcastic? I'm not really upset, just simply a bit sad that people would actually buy this book.

Now that they can get the size of the Bible down to a grain of sugar and are publishing glossy hip versions and Jesus as a Samurai, we wonder what will be next for the Bible? Giant supersized Bibles or WorldWide Wrestling's Smackdown Jesus?

In light of the Islamists who resort to rioting whenever a fairly innocuous cartoon of Mohammad hits the streets, we find our ability to take the Bible and its inhabitants and turn them into different perspectives without resulting to threats of violence or rioting quite refreshing.

In countries such as Saudi Arabia where the Bible is not allowed and will be confiscated from visitors, our citizens utilize their freedom to use their creativity without fear of prosecution.

The myth that some of our more liberal citizens spin that "hard-core Christians are of the same ilk as the radical Islamists" doesn't hold water as no Christians have taken to the streets over the hundreds of thousands of non-standard Bibles. They haven't issued death threats to Mr. Akinsiku for rendering Jesus as a Samurai.

We, for one, would love to see God, the Smoter, back in business. It's been a long, long time, back in the Bible, since God has smote someone. Smiting or smoting is now considered old fashioned, passe. A shame, because smoting was quite an efficient and effective way of dealing with a problem. At least before the impact of Global Warming.

    A pity.

    Have a Smoke Free Hajj

[NOTE: DBKP would like to take this opportunity to introduce a new face (in the blogosphere sense of the word) to readers. Nancy Reyes, the esteemed Boinky, is a world-traveling doc who blogs from the Philippines.

We've read the Doc for some time now and been an admirer of her posts. So, we asked her if she had the time and/or inclination) to join in the orchestrated blog madness that is DBKP.

She has agreed and we couldn't be more pleased!

Now, like our mom and the guy next door we always borrow the hedge clippers from, we don't agree with everything the Doc says. But we don't have to! That's the beauty of Free Speech.

There's a continual cigar-induced smog circling 'round my head, but the Doc, being a good Doc, is concerned about health issues, and that makes us gung-ho on whatever she writes. Of course, I say that as I'm lighting up another cigar...

So if you have a second, drop off a comment to the Good Doctor. As RidesAPaleHorse said the other day to Trench:

    "Welcome to the Asylum
    ."]

President Bush is always being ridiculed for insisting that faith based organizations be given funding to combat HIV in Africa and drug use in the USA.

Yet health based behavioral changed is a lot more successful if the argument is based on people’s own value system. America’s elite tend to revere physical health, but this doesn’t always translate to other cultures, where “behala na” applies to sickness. I mean, why tell an African that he might die of lung cancer at age 60 when he’ll probably die before then of HIV, TB, or malaria?

So how does one combat the scourge of cigarette smoking, a habit that is not socially destructive like excess alcohol or promiscuity, but that causes 4 million deaths a year world wide?

    Breaking at least two fatwas

One answer for the WHO (World Health Organization) is to encourage to make the Hajj smoke free.

Tobacco products have been banned for sale in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina since 2002, and now those cities are entirely tobacco free.

    African Path blog reports:

Huge billboard signs and posters with messages against smoking reads” Complete your hajj, complete your duty and advise others to stop smoking” and “Let the start of your hajj be the end of tobacco,” are installed all over Mina and Arafat….The Public Relation Officer of the Ministry of Health, Mr.Khaled AL-Marghalani, reminded pilgrims that hajj is the best time to stop smoking.

There have been several fatwas to discourage smoking based on health concerns.

    A WHO paper explains:

Many of the principles of Islam call upon people to look after their health,to avoid health hazards and risks and to raise their standards of hygiene….The general consensus concerning the Islamic ruling was that smoking is either completely prohibited or abhorrent to such a degree as to be prohibited..

Anti Smoking initiatives are also being pushed elsewhere in Asia: Bollywood stars are promoting anti tobacco initiatives, and the SEA GAMES (SEAsia Games) were also Tobacco free.

Bans are less popular in Manila, where even most restaurants allow smoking. On the other hand, the high price of cigarettes make heavy smokers rare. Personally, I haven’t been bothered by the few smokers when I go out to eat.

Religions that stress healthy living, such as Islam, Christian Baptists and the LDS church, could be a great help to stop the use of tobacco in many countries.

However, one doubts that the Catholic or Orthodox churches will soon ban tobacco under the pain of sin, although like alcohol, individual clerics will work with their parishoners to stop the habit.

I mean, when the founder admonished what goes into the mouth is not as important as what goes out of the mouth (i.e. food laws were not as important as hate speech, envy, greed etc.) tobacco efforts for Catholis will probably have to remain on the level of good advice to stay healthy rather than morality.

Kissing Mullahs: Picture's Worth a 1000 Words Dept.

The Left's always maintained that Ahmadinejad has a tender side. Who knew?

Saw this over on Gateway Pundit and it caused some rethinking: Might Islam, after all is said and done, really be the religion of love?

You can't spell "fatwa" or "NAMBLA" without the two "A"'s.

    INTERFAITHFAST:

Hamas and Iran Use "Interfaithfast" to Weave Quakers, Mennonites & NCC Into Network for Christian/Judeo Destruction

A Death by 1000 Papercuts EXCLUSIVE REPORT

"We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America not through [the] sword but through da'wa." --Sheik Yusuf Qaradawi, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, 1995. [source: Investigative Project]

    Interfaith Fast or Interfaith Jihad?

Today on October 8 across America, Interfaithfast will be promoted. Interfaith leaders called for day of fasting to end the war in Iraq. That day is today. What exactly is Interfaithfast, who's behind it and what are its purposes?

Here is the NCC press release from the religious leaders' press conference held on Wednesday, September 26th in Washington DC to call for an interfaith fast to call for an end to the war in Iraq.

    Press release:
On October 8th in local communities around our nation people will fast during the day and come together in interfaith gatherings in the evening to break the fast.
What could be more harmless; this joining of hands across sects and faiths for a common goal? It's a fast, so there will be no breaking of bread. But might the absence of this traditional symbol of peace represent more?

Daniel Pipes had it right back in January. In an article by Beila Rabinowitz and William A. Mayer , "Jihad As Interfaith - CAIR, Hassan Al-Turabi and the Philly Mitzvah Food Pantry", details from a November 2006 event in San Francisco are related.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with students from Gratz Jewish College and the Archbishop Carroll High School at the November 16 Sukkat Shalom/Peace Shelter/Dar Us Salaam event was Ibrahim Muhaimin of the Quba Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies who declared that the experience gave him the opportunity to "go to his new found friends with questions about their beliefs," i.e., challenging them with Islam.

Gratz College professor "Rabbi" Carol Harris-Shapiro, a board member of the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia which helped organize the event enthused, saying that "students form friendships that would not occur normally" and adding that the year-long program allows the time for "real bonds to develop...and all of the components reinforce each other...they are learning about each other as they are learning about the world..." [source]

    The article continues:
Unfortunately for "Rabbi" Harris-Shapiro, the Quba Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies preaches a world-view much closer to al-Qaeda than the fuzzy kumbaya on public display at this event and has made no attempt to hide the group's Islamist roots. According to the QIAI website, the school "is a corollary of the International Muslim Brotherhood" [the radical Egyptian Islamist organization responsible for assassinating Anwar Sadat, from which grew al-Qaeda and first WTC bomber Omar Abdel "the Blind Sheikh" Rahman, among others]
Why is the funding of spiritual needs in America a concern? The article examines financial ties between the various strands of the Interfaith movement and the Saudis almost ten months before Interfaithfast was announced. Rabiniowitz and Mayer warned of the dangers of this spreading network of Muslim extremists, using well-meaning American church leaders as a smokescreen to cloak their real intentions.
"Interfaith is perhaps the most disingenuous of all Islamist tactics, relying on non-Muslim's almost complete ignorance of the tenets of the religion. Most basic is that to Muslims "faith sharing" is a one way proposition, a means of recruiting converts - jihad through da'wa. In this view all non-Muslims are seen as potential Muslims. Further complicating the offering of interfaith sharing as a panacea is that the rejection of Islam is a grave offense - apostasy - and the prescribed penalty is death - converts take note. The spirit of obfuscation is also alive in the preposterous assertion that Islam is one of the "Abrahamic faiths," thus creating a false sense of kinship and moral equivalency with Judaism and Christianity." [source]
Interfaithfast is being sold as the ultimate feel-good project: Muslims and Christians and Jews uniting in a spiritual experience. The spiritual experience of ending war. But Interfaithfast wants to achieve a particular spiritual experience. Their experience says nothing about ending all war, all violence. They are concerned with one war and only one side of that war. Ending U.S. involvement in Iraq. Here's The American Muslim (TAM) website regarding the Oct. 8th, 2007, Interfaith Fast.
“American culture, society, and policy are addicted to violence at home and overseas. In our time, the hope of a decent future is endangered by an unnecessary, morally abhorrent, and disastrous war.
Ending this war can become the first step toward a policy that embodies a deeper, broader sense of generosity and community at home and in the world.”
Rabbi Arthur Waskow ... Associate General Secretary for Interfaith Relations, National Council of Churches USA echoed this in another release:
INTERFAITH FAST TO END THE WAR IN IRAQ: October 8. FROM CONQUEST TO COMMUNITY, FROM VIOLENCE TO REVERENCE
Call for a nationwide fast day on October 8 to help Americans move away from the policies and practices of violence, at home and overseas.
    The rabbi added:
This work crystallized in two approaches – one focused on ending the war in Iraq, the other on challenging the entire culture of violence that is honeycombing our society. The laser-beam focus on the war was preferred and adopted by a number of major leaders and institutions of American religious life, and is going out to many others as well. It follows.
What is the significance of October 8? It is the most holy day of Ramadan, the Night Of Power.

Among all the church leaders lining to endorse Interfaithfast, there was one voice crying out in the warm-and-fuzzy wilderness. Mark Tooley, executive director of UMAction, a Methodist organization.
"Left-wing Mainline Protestants are joining Muslims in a political fast aimed at getting the United States to 'end the war' in Iraq, an objective that no U.S. action could quickly accomplish. The sectarian conflict in Iraq likely will continue with or without U.S. involvement."
    --Mark Tooley, Executive Director UMAction
    Tooley continues.

Religious Left officials are asking Americans to fast from dawn to dusk on Columbus Day, October 8, as a protest against the Iraq War. The group, which includes leaders from the National Council of Churches, the Islamic Society of North America, the Council on American Islamic Relations and several Mainline Protestant agencies such as the United Methodist Board of Church and Society, wants all U.S. troops to leave Iraq immediately.

Ostensibly, the Religious Left fasters want to "end the war in Iraq." But they do not explain how removing U.S. and allied troops would accomplish that goal.
"Left-wing Mainline Protestants are joining Muslims in a political fast aimed at getting the United States to 'end the war' in Iraq, an objective that no U.S. action could quickly accomplish. The sectarian conflict in Iraq likely will continue with or without U.S. involvement.

"Organizers cite the biblical prophet Isaiah as a model for fasting, but Isaiah called upon the people of Israel to fast as an appeal to God's mercy, not to make a political statement. This protest fast is not about spiritual transformation but about exploiting an ancient religious practice for a political purpose."

Back to the true-believers at Interfaithfast.
"When you are fasting for Ramadan, you are enhancing your sense of compassion," said Dr. Sayeed Syeed from the Islamic Society of North America.† "We will be asking mosques to open their doors to people of other faiths around the world on October 8 for prayer and dialogue.” [source]
So Interfaithfast is a particularly holy day for Muslims. Nothing sinister there on the face of it. Let's meet the good folks at Interfaith and those who've endorsed it. The following is a short list of the endorsers.

    Some of The Players:

Council Of American Islamic Relations (CAIR)
The General Board of Church And Society of United Methodists (Jim Winkler)
    ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal
Buddist Peace Fellowship Call To Action Philadelphia
    Episcopal Peace Fellowship
Mary Ellen McNish, General Secretary, American Friends Service Committee
National Council of Churches USA Office of Interfaith Relations
Network of Spiritual Progressives New Hampshire Council of Churches
    National Catholic Peace Movement
    Presbyterian Peace Fellowship
The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations
Parvez Ahmed, Council on American Islamic Relations
Nihad Awad, Executive Director, Council on American Islamic Relations
Dr. Sayyid M. Sayeed, Secretary-General, Islamic Society of North America
American Jewish University; Rabbi Howard A. Cohen
Dr. Shanta Premawardhana, National Council of Churches USA
    The Scorecard:
Council Of American Islamic Relations (CAIR)

    f
    From Front Page Magazine:
CAIR is a non-profit advocacy group for Muslims based in Washington, DC. It has 32 regional offices and chapters in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1994 by Nihad Awad, Omar Ahmad, and Rafeed Jaber of the Islamic Association Of Palestine with funds from the Hamas group, Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. The United States State Department has labeled Hamas as a “designated Foreign Terrorist organization.

    CAIRS TIES TO HAMAS
CAIR achieved attention for filing lawsuits against websites which had exposed their ties to Hamas-backed groups.
The Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) is widely regarded as the “primary voice in the United States” of the terrorist group Hamas.† The IAP was founded by Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, a “senior political leader” of Hamas, and the organization is credited with publishing the actual Hamas charter.† In a prepared statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Government Information, Steven Emerson stated, “internal Hamas documents strongly suggest that parts of the Hamas charter… were first written by members of the IAP in the United States in the early to mid-1980's.”
Nihad Awad (now Executive Director of CAIR) was the public relations director for the IAP. In 1994 Awad met with the then IAP President Omar Ahmad, Rafeeq Jaber, (Ahmad’s successor as IAP President) in order to discuss the IAP moving into a new direction. This was the beginning of CAIR.

In June of 1994 the three incorporated the Council Of American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Awad became the group’s Executive Director, Omar Ahmad, Chairman of the Board. A 5,000 dollar “donation” was used to open an office in D.C., the origin of the donation from The Holy Land Foundation For Relief And Development founded by the same person who founded the IAP, Mousa Abu Marzook. [From Investigative Projects]

Shortly after September 11 2001, if one went to CAIR's website, it could click on “Donate to the NY/DC Emergency Relief Fund”. Anyone wishing to donate to such a worthy cause, however was directed to the website of the infamous Holy Land Foundation. Holy Land Foundation is on trial for being a front group for terrorist organization, Hamas. Another CAIR-Holy Land Foundation link? Besides the fact that CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial.

Back to the website which sent people seeking to donate to victims of Islamist terror to a website by one being prosecuted for helping Islamist terror.
    From Let Freedom Ring:
The link was on CAIR’s website up until the beginning of December, when the information mysteriously disappeared.
On December 4, 2001, the reason for the disappearance was apparent, as the Holy Land Foundation’s assets were blocked by the United States government for funneling money to Hamas. According to the White House website, “The U.S.-based Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development [provided] millions of dollars each year that [was] used by HAMAS.”

That’s the most damning proof of CAIR’s, and therefore Awad’s, involvement with Islamic terrorists. CAIR, with Awad’s direction, played on America’s generosity in a time of incredible pain by posting a picture of the burning World Trade Center towers, then directing people to donate to the “Donate to the NY/DC Emergency Relief Fund”, knowing that the money was going to the Holy Land Foundation, where the money would be sent to Hamas. Here’s what the State Department memo says about freezing the Holy Land Foundation’s assets:
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has suspended the tax-exempt status of three charities because of their links to terrorist networks.
In a November 14 news release, Treasury said that contributions to the three charities, Benevolence International Foundation, Global Relief Foundation, and Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, would no longer be deductible for federal tax purposes.
“We will continue to use all available means to fight the financial war on terrorism,” Pam Olson, Treasury’s assistant secretary for tax policy, said in the news release. “Organizations found by the United States government to support terrorism should not be exempt from federal income tax, and contributions to those organizations should not be deductible for federal tax purposes."
Parvez Ahmed – Chairman, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
One quote should give you Mr. Ahmed's view of the USA in relation to the Middle East and Hamas.
[W]hen U.S. policies lead to killings and bombings as in Iraq, or the continued occupation as in Palestine, or even Afghanistan where the Taliban is reforming and there is a lot of violence, or the U.S. is not engaging with the democratic regimes -- We're talking about democratization in the Middle-East, but the most freely and fairly elected government in the Middle-East, which is the Palestinian government, the U.S. government is not engaging with them." (statement by Parvez Ahmed on Al-Jazeera television show discussing a new poll showing widespread anti-American feelings throughout the Muslim world, April 24, 2007) Immediately after Ahmed made his statement about how the U.S. should engage with Hamas ("the Palestinian government")
It shouldn't be difficult to guess Ahmed's views on other related topics. Say the state of Israel's right to exist; what the U.S. position on the War in Iraq should be; or perhaps, the War on Terror.

Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed, National Director of Islamic Society Of North America and former member of board of advisors to CAIR is also an Interfaithfast endorser and/or co-sponsor.
Syeed is the first director of the Office of Interfaith and Community Alliances (IOICA), which opened earlier this year. The IOICA works to enhance positive relationships and understandings between Muslim Americans, government agencies and Congressional representatives. Syeed served as secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America from 1994 to 2006, actively working to foster understanding among the world’s religions and developing global interfaith alliances. He has served on the board of advisors for the Council on American-Islamic Relations and on the board of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions. [source]
The average Joe, upon hearing about Interfaithfast most likely nods his head in approval. What little he has heard has been from a series of press releases, either from the Interfaithfast group or one of their participating members. Words and phrases like "ecumenical", "universal love" and "brotherhood" might come to mind.

Other words might come to mind if Joe were a federal prosecutor. Words like "unindicted co-conspirator".
Federal prosecutors have named three prominent Islamic organizations in America as participants in an alleged criminal conspiracy to support a Palestinian Arab terrorist group, Hamas.

Prosecutors applied the label of "unindicted co-conspirator" to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America, and the North American Islamic Trust in connection with a trial... for five officials of a defunct charity, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. [source]
Mary Ellen McNish, AFSC General Secretary. listens as President Ahmadinejad respond to questions from religious leaders. [ AFSC photo
    ]
Another Interfaithfast endorser is Mary Ellen McNish, General Secretary,American Friends Service Committee. Ms. McNish was prominent last month in a meeting between Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and many of the same Interfaithfast church leaders. Many of these same Interfaithfast group members also held meetings with Ahmadinejad in February of this year, when 17 of of the church leaders traveled to Iran; and in September 2006, during Ahmadinejad's last visit to the U.N.

One finds it hard to question the motives of a Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) member in matters of peace. It is one of the founding tenets of the Quakers long tradition since their founding in England in the 17th century. Some might question the wisdom of meetings with the man who has publicly vowed on more than one occasion to exterminate Israel if he gets nuclear weapons, but not the motives.

A search through AFSC promotional materials reveals many causes and goals. All religions have such principles. "Peace" and "family" are two common concerns of all religions. So is "life". While opposition to the death penalty was prominent, after a search, no such opposition to abortion could be found. It proved no obstacle to becoming General Secretary that, according to public internet sources, Ms. McNish was previously the chief operating officer at Planned Parenthood of Maryland. We contacted AFSC requesting an interview but heard no response.

Groups claiming to speak for Methodists, Quakers, Mennonites, Jews, Muslims, Buddists, Episcopalians, Unitarians, Presbytarians and Catholics, as well as the National Council of Churches, are represented at Interfaithfast. Do they speak for their members? Do their members know about about their church leaders ties with terrorist apologists? Do they approve? Do they consider the possibility that Interfaithfast might be another brick in the da'wa [conversion of the infidel] wall?
Is Interfaithfast a vehicle, as some have suggested, for "useful tools and religious fools"?

There are many questions on this October 8, the Night of Power during Ramadan. The day that Interfaithfast, the day-long protest against the U.S. involvement in the War in Iraq, takes place across America. One of those questions might be: are there any Interfaithfasts planned in the near future to protest the murder of innocent women and children by Hamas gunmen and suicide bombers? How about a protest against the hanging and torture of homosexuals in Iran, where Ahmadinejad insists none live? Are there any plans to ask some hard questions of Syeed, Awad and others involved in the Interfaithfast?

All questions that thoughtful Unitarians, Buddists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Quakers and the others sponsoring Interfaithfast, might ask themselves today every time their stomachs growl. Questions when they are putting money into the collection to help their church leaders bring about good works. Questions the next time an Israeli child is killed by Hamas.

A great many people attend a place of worship for the feeling of peace it may bring: for spiritual succor. To dwell on a political particular foreign policy position of the United States is not on their meditative menu. Those same people may also go to church to contemplate a higher power than any here on earth; to escape the woes of this mortal coil.

If church leaders ignore their primary mission of ministering to the spiritual needs of their charges, they risk alienation. Eventually, members of their church turn elsewhere for spiritual guidance. The church leaders involved in Interfaithfast might ponder on the dwindling attendance figures at almost all of the church denominations involved. And they might ask themselves if an anti-war protest event will help their members feel closer to God. These are questions they might pose to themselves.

    But they most likely won't.
