Idiots of the Week

[Every week, RightBias publishes Culture Watch, which includes an Idiot of the Week award. However, there's been so many...

TOP IDIOTS OF THE WEEK: Sept. 27, 2008

1. First place winner, hands down, is PETA, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals. After hearing of a Swiss restaurant that started using human breast milk in their soups and sauces, PETA sent a letter to Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to start using breast milk in their ice cream products. Yum.

2. Unfortunately, this idiot terrorist is unable to savor his award. As he was mindlessly lobbing bombs and chanting Allah Akbar, he accidentally blew himself up. (Warning: graphic video) I wonder if he finally got those 72 virgins he was promised.

4. Also, in the eco-idiots category: Bette Midler, who cancelled her latest tour in order to save the planet. The aging 62 year-old diva felt the fleet of 14 trucks she used to ship her show from city to city caused too much pollution. I'm sure low ticket sales had nothing to do with her decision.

5. A Michigan Court of Appeals deserves a place on our list for ruling that a man who pleaded no contest to sodomizing a sheep doesn't have to register as a sex offender. Would someone please let PETA know.

6. The winner of last week's top idiot award is back. Democrat VP candidate Joe Biden stated on CBS Evening News, "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'" Only problem is, FDR wasn't president during the 1929 crash, Herbert Hoover was. Oh, and there was no television in 1929. Duh.

7.
Former American Idol star Clay Aiken gets our Idiot Parent of the Week award. Clay was pictured in People Magazine holding his infant son as he announced to the world that he is gay. Clay threw in some advice on parenting, stating, "I cannot raise a child to lie or hide things." Another example of idiots transforming bad behaviour into moral-self righteousness. Bravo.

8. Kudos to the idiot who managed to rack up nearly $2 million in traffic fines before being caught by Brazilian police.

9. Last, but not least, is the idiot former judge who was disbarred by the Oklahoma Supreme Court last Tuesday. His crime? He actually got caught, and served prison time, for using a sexual device while presiding over trials. Hey, maybe some lawyers just complained about how hard it was to get a rise out of him. Ya think?

Thought for the week: To err is human, but being an idiot takes something special.

PETA: Silence of the Lambs

To Muslims here in America, it is a ritual, the "festival of sacrifice." To Eddie Rowe it was a way to make some extra cash at his hog farm. To the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, it constituted an illegal and unsanitary slaughter facility.

The Muslim families that live in "Research Triangle," from Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill have an annual tradition. After morning services of the first day of Eid al-Adha-"the festival of sacrifice"--families would meet up at local hog farm to slit the throats of goats and lambs.
To research scientist Ahmed Mamai, 40, a native Moroccan, performing the sacrifice on Rowe's property allows him to maintain an ancient tradition that would be difficult to square with his lifestyle in suburban Raleigh. If he slaughtered an animal in his backyard, Mamai said with a smile, "My wife would sacrifice me."
The farmer, Eddie Rowe, had sold 250 of the animals at up to $160 a piece. After Rowe was served with a restraining order from the N.C. officials he attempted to return some of the money already paid while others chose to take their animal "elsewhere" to perform the ritual throat cutting.
That was of little help to Muhammad Mannan, 56, from Bangladesh, who holds a doctorate in statistics and lives in Apex, just west of Raleigh. "But Eddie, where can we go?" Mannan asked the hog farmer Wednesday.

"Well," Rowe said, "y'all can take 'em home and kill 'em. That's what we were told."

"I do have a big backyard," Mannan said, as if thinking aloud.
For some reason goats and lambs do not fall under the jurisdiction of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. If the animals had been puppies or kittens the reaction might have been different than the "no reaction at all."
Animal sacrifice on Eid al-Adha is not a requirement in Islam, but it is suggested by the Prophet Muhammad. A feast with family and friends typically follows the slaughter, and some of the meat is given to the poor.
In the end no one was charged with a crime. Some of the families had their money returned while others drove away with a live lamb or goat in the trunk of their car.

It will be another year before the next Eid al-Adha rolls around. Ample time to find a new way to legally sacrifice (slaughter) lively lambs and goats to Allah.

Bambi's Revenge:
Deer 1, Hunter 0

PETA must be as happy as a pig in slop.

First, came the news that a dog had shot a man. Now, a deer gets the best of a hunter. The sad story of an unknown, unlucky hunter, from the Grand
Junction Sentinel
:
A northwestern Colorado man was injured Sunday after a deer gored him while he was hunting about 15 miles south of Craig, according to the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

Randy Hampton, spokesman with the DOW’s northwest region, said the man was hunting with at least one other person in the Hamilton area.

Hampton did not release the victim’s name.

“He or his hunting partner shot a buck deer, downed it and went to the buck,” Hampton said. “The animal stood up and gored him.”
Isn't there some kind of a hunting "Law of the Woods" or something you can turn to? Is it that easy for a shot deer to jump up and gore you?

Questions a careful, thoughtful hunter might consider before starting out next time.

PETA Protesters:

Semi-Nude, Bodies Pierced & Spray-Painted

by Mondoreb & Ginn

Gotta hand it to PETA: the animal rights organization knows how to draw attention. PETA proponents protested semi-nude, hung from hooks, and colored their bodies to call attention to the plight of fish.

From Signs on San Diego:
OCEAN BEACH – Nudity and self-mutilation tend to draw crowds, which explains why a few dozen folks took a break from their noontime activities yesterday to watch the latest PETA protest in Ocean Beach.

PETA – the animal-rights group whose acronym stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – organized the protest to call attention to the pain that fish suffer when they are hooked by fishing lines.

What better way to illustrate the point than to have a group of semi-nude street performers attach meat hooks to their flesh and then dangle from a scaffold?

One of the street performers – clad only in underpants, her body spray-painted in green and other ocean hues – drew a series of “uuuughs” and “ohmygods” from the crowd as she hung suspended over the ground by an industrial-strength hook attached to the skin on her back.
No pixels were harmed in the making of this post.
