Racketeering? Fraud? Sound's like CAIR's been having a grand ole time over the past few years.

The guy speaking at the time of the serving of the summons is MN congressman Keith Ellison. This is the press release by SANE (Society of Americans for National Existence), a multi faith, anti-terror advocacy group (video follows):

Four clients of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) have filed a federal civil complaint alleging criminal fraud and racketeering against CAIR, a self-described public interest civil rights law firm. The lawsuit also names CAIR's national leadership as individual defendants...

The defendants were served with the complaint and summons to appear while attending the CAIR 14th Annual Dinner Sunday night in Arlington, Virginia. Congressman Ellison (D-Minn) was a guest speaker at this affair.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges that Morris Days, the “Resident Attorney” and “Manager for Civil Rights” at the now defunct CAIR MD/VA chapter in Herndon, Virginia, was in fact not an attorney and that he failed to provide legal services for clients who came to CAIR for assistance and who had paid for CAIR legal services.

While attorney David Yerushalmi represents the four plaintiffs in this particular lawsuit, two of whom are African American Muslims, the complaint alleges that according to CAIR internal documents, there were hundreds of victims of the CAIR-Days fraud scheme.

According to the complaint, CAIR failed to conduct a background check on Days prior to hiring him and when they did discover his massive fraud, they immediately set about to cover it up. CAIR officials purposefully concealed the truth about Days from their clients, law enforcement, the Virginia and D.C. state bar associations, and the media. When CAIR did get irate calls from clients about Days’ failure to provide competent legal services, CAIR fraudulently deceived their clients about Days’ relationship to CAIR, suggesting he was never actually employed by CAIR, and even concealed the fact that CAIR had fired him for criminal fraud.

Coroner's Investigator Charged with Living It Up on Dead Man's Credit Card

Bad Luck Seems to Follow Some People




Talk about bad luck: David Workman has had it in spades lately.

A former investigator for the Jefferson County (OH) Coroner's Office, Workman was arrested on June 20, after he stole a credit card.

From a dead man at the county morgue.

He might have gotten away with it IF he hadn't tried using the dead man's card to pay for over $400 of services at a strip club in Weirton, WV.

Apparently, the staff at the strip club knew Workman so well, that they knew his first name and became suspicious when he presented the card and signed the dead man's name to pay his bill.

After Workman's July 2 appearance in Hancock County (WV) Magistrate Court, Workman shook his head and called the charges a "bum rap." Caught on video tape after his arrest, Workman was reported saying that the theft of the credit card was "not intentional," and called his use of the dead man's credit card, "purely an accident".

He did not respond to a reporter's question about whether signing the dead man's name to the bill was an accident.

Workman was fired after his arrest in June, after being employed by the coroner's office for seven years.

This is a lot of bad luck.

But wait--there's more.

While awaiting trial on the credit card charges, Workman was arrested on August 20, in Steubenville OH, in a prostitution sting that resulted in 10 people arrested for soliciting.

No reports on how Workman attempted to pay the undercover officer posing as a prostitute.

Workman was then scheduled to appear in the Steubenville Municipal Court on the prostitution charges the next day in Steubenville, but he was also scheduled to appear in a Hancock County court the same day to stand trial for the credit card charges.

No reports at this time on how the scheduling conflict was worked out.

Several years ago, Workman was involved in another incident.

According to police reports, in September 2005, a driver called Saline Township (OH) police claiming Workman impersonated a police officer. The complaint accused Workman of using a flashing light on his car to pull a vehicle over on County Road 50. Workman was accused of approaching the driver with a gun and his coroner’s badge.

Workman was never charged in that case.

And some people complain that their lives are "boring".

Tim Chapman Buck Naked troubles: innocent changing of juiced clothing, or lewd act?

You decide.

Tim, a sidekick of TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman, turned himself in to authorities Friday after a shopping center security guard reported seeing him naked in his pickup truck, performing a lewd act, police said.

But Tim Chapman's lawyer insists his client spilled juice on himself and was just changing clothes Thursday night.

Tim Chapman and the security guard obviously didn't see eye-to-eye about the event.

In fact, Chapman, according to the guard, tried to get "up close and personal" with him--with his truck.

The guard told Chapman to put on his clothes and get out of the truck, police said. After dressing, Chapman started his truck and drove over a sidewalk, nearly hitting the guard, then drove off, police said.

Fame has its benefits.

And its drawbacks.

The guard told police that "he recognized Chapman from Duane Chapman's show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" and that he was performing an unspecified lewd act."

The story goes on to state that Duane Chapman and Tim Chapman are not related.

That was buried in the sixth or seventh paragraph.

Tim Chapman's attorney, Brook Hart, came to the rescue--as attorneys are wont to do--and said it was all a misunderstanding.

"It was simply a man who wet his pants with orange juice inadvertently and was changing them, doing nothing wrong at all and believing he had sufficient privacy to do it," Hart said.

Police said they were still investigating the matter. There's no word on whether they plan to charge Chapman, 42.

Several questions leaped to mind after reading this.

Was Tim Chapman alone?

What was the lewd act?

Does it matter if you're in the privacy of your own pick-up truck?

What attracted the security guard's attention?

Meanwhile, life goes on for the millions of "Dog the Bounty Hunter" fans who face another day without their favorite show.

As one person put it, "Maybe the security guard will investigate that one".

Don't hold your breath.

We realize that Tim Chapman is accused of almost running over someone.

But it was only a security guard, after all.

From Private Officer: One of the stars of the reality TV show “Dog the Bounty Hunter” was arrested today on suspicion of attempted murder and indecent exposure. and also: Police checked Tim Chapman’s Hawaii Kai home, but were told he’s separated from his wife and has been living out of his truck. Then around 2:30 this afternoon, Tim Chapman turned himself in to Honolulu police.Chapman’s attorney Brook Hart says it’s all a misunderstanding. “Tim Chapman was driving in the Ala Moana, Kapioplani Blvd. area when he inadvertently spilled some orange juice, orange drink or liquid in his lap, and he got all wet so looked for a place for some privacy,” said Brook Hart, Tim Chapman’s attorney.Hart says Tim Chapman was not performing lewd acts.”He was merely changing from one pants to another when a security guard came and yelled at him to get out of his car. Tim panicked and drove over the curb and left the area,” said Hart.Tim Chapman was booked on suspicion of indecent exposure, and attempted murder for nearly running over the security guard. Although, police say he may be charged with terroristic threatening instead. Tim Chapman remains at the Honolulu Police Department’s main cell block tonight, pending charges. Kerry Now Ready to Counter Swift Boat Accusations--Three Years Later

Three years after Democrats penciled "Swift Boat" into their little red Ideological Dictionary of Rhetoric, John Kerry is finally ready to erase their doubts. Democrats decried the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's message, but neglected to ever address, refute or otherwise counter their charges.

Three year later, John Kerry is ready to go. More on Kerry coming "Swift Boat"-ing of the Swift Boat Veterans from Fox News:

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, perhaps preparing to get back into the presidential ring one day, claims he's now armed with materials that will make war record critics from his 2004 presidential campaign go running tail between legs.

The 63-year-old Democratic senator told The Patriot-Ledger on Tuesday that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group of Navy servicemen who served with Kerry and criticized his record in Vietnam, will be revealed as liars.

"We have put together a documented portfolio that frankly puts their lies in such a total light of absurdity and indecency, that should they ever rear their ugly heads again, we have every single 't’ crossed and 'i’ dotted, and I welcome that in a sense,'' Kerry said after addressing Boston's South Shore Chamber of Commerce. "It’s a shame we weren’t able to produce all that at the time.''

Kerry, who is up for re-election next year for a fifth term in the U.S. Senate, added that he regrets that he was slow to counter accusations against him during the 2004 presidential campaign, and thinks that Republicans have descended into pure deception to win votes.

It only took three years for Kerry to act. Or claim he's going to act. Or issue a press release saying he's going to act. This was someone who wanted to become commander-in-chief?

At this rate, if Kerry had been president when Pearl Harbor was bombed, World War II might have been lost by the time he would have declared war. Or said he was going to declare war. Or asked the Vichy French if it was okay to declare war.

"I have no doubt at all that some of the people involved on the other side don’t care about the truth, think nothing about distorting it, will not hesitate to say and do whatever they think is necessary to win,'' Kerry told the newspaper. "But I think we are now much more prepared and savvy about those kind of things, and certainly in my own involvement, I will make certain that people don’t get away with that.''

Well, it's certainly easy to see why someone who supposedly spent "Christmas in Cambodia" would care about the truth. As Mark Steyn noted during Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign:

When John Kerry says he supports the Kyoto Treaty even though he voted for a bill that declared the United States would never ever ratify it, that doesn't mean he's a 'liar', it just means that, well, to be honest, I haven't a clue what it means... I wouldn't call Sen. Kerry a liar. But I did get the vague feeling in the following exchange that, if it had gone on a minute or two longer, the candidate's nose would have cracked my TV screen, extended across the coffee table and pinned me to the wall.

True to the Official Democrat Established Rules on Dealing with Unpleasant Actions That are Exposed in the Press Handbook, Rule #1 is to deny it. Rule #2 is to sign on all your DonkeyBuddies to deny it along with you. Since a sympathetic press in most big cities will cooperate, metropolitan cab drivers will now be onboard. That helps the 'word on the street'.

Rules 3,4 and 5 involve shouting down, slandering or casting aspersions on the person(s) making the accusation d'jour. Pity Kerry didn't have his own private 'media watchdog', like Hillary's Media Matters. If he'd had David Brock on his payroll, perhaps he'd be issuing his belated release from the Oval Office.

So John Kerry still hasn't done anything other than issue the press release, call someone "liars" and prepare for action. Hopefully, Senator Kerry may roust himself from his Swift Boat somnambulism in the next couple months.

Finally, he'll tell the truth. Finally, he'll face his accusers.

Three years late.

At Christmas.

In Cambodia.

Maybe.

Dog the Bounty Hunter-Canceled: Mexican Charges Finally Dismissed

Finally.

The Bounty Hunter got a bit of good news yesterday: he will not be extradited to Mexico to face a pending appeal on kidnapping charges against him, a judge ruled Monday.

Coming after 5 days of turmoil over the tapes of his private cellphone conversation with his son, Tucker, were made public and Arts and Entertainment Network first pulling his show from the air, then canceling it--this was good news.

Duane "Dog" Chapman, the star of Bounty Hunter has had two relatively quiet days, free from bad news. An appearance at an El Cajon, CA parade was canceled yesterday, but that's been about it.

Now he can finally put the Mexico legal hassles behind him.

The U.S. government was trying to send Chapman, his son Leland Chapman and a third man to the resort town of Puerto Vallarta, where they were charged with kidnapping Andrew Luster, a Max Factor heir who had jumped a $1 million bond on charges that he drugged and raped three women. Luster's disappearance during his trial in Ventura set off an international manhunt by police, FBI and bounty hunters trying to recoup some of the bond money.

On June 18, 2003, Chapman and the other men apprehended Luster, and the fugitive was taken back to the United States to serve the 124-year sentence he was given while on the lam.

But because bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, prosecutors in that country charged the three with kidnapping and asked U.S. authorities to arrest the trio and ship them to Puerto Vallarta.

On July 27, a Mexican judge dismissed the charges, ruling that Mexican prosecutors had taken too long in their attempts to bring the trio to trial. But the U.S. attorney's office in Honolulu, where the senior Chapman lives, declined to dismiss the extradition proceedings because Mexican prosecutors are appealing the judge's ruling.

Still, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren in Honolulu on Monday dismissed the extradition attempt because the judge said the trio are no longer charged with any offenses, despite the appeal.

"I don't think they have any regrets whatsoever in facilitating the capture of Mr. Luster, who is a known and convicted rapist," his San Francisco lawyer, James Quadra, said Monday. "Though this has been a difficult process, they are proud of what they have done."

Quadra declined to comment on the tempest Chapman created last week when he was caught on tape using the racial epithet.

A&E pulled Chapman's show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" from the air indefinitely after a private phone conversation between the reality star and his son was posted online.

Chapman, 54, has been under fire since The National Enquirer posted a clip of Chapman using the N-word repeatedly about his son's black girlfriend. Chapman apologized and vowed to never utter the word again, but at least two advertisers have pulled out from the show and civil rights groups have called for its cancellation.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER-Canceled-Monday UPDATES:

Dog "Duane" Chapman, Day 6 in the continuing story of Dog the Bounty Hunter, the tapes of his cellphone call to his son about his son's girlfriend. Throughout the tapes, Dog can be heard using the N-word repeatedly, but says that he doesn't care if the girl is black or not and is more concerned with her character than the color of her skin.

Dog's spiritual adviser, Tim Storey, then issued statements repeating Chapman's remorse at his language. Storey also related that for the last year, he's been working with the Bounty Hunter to clean up his speech in general. Storey is black and testified that Chapman's use of the N-word was not hate-directed.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" is first pulled from the air and then production is canceled by the Arts & Entertainment Network. A & E's statement seems to leave the door open that the popular series might resume at a later date, however.

FAN REACTION:Fan speculation has been both passionate and continuing. From the letters, comments and browsing, it seems that fan reaction is running about 80% in favor of the Bounty Hunter. The most common response seems to be "He shouldn't have said it, but he was on a private cellphone to his son. Get the show back on the air."

Of course, with any large group of people, you have people at both extremes of the issue. Some want Chapman's hide, some use the incident to spew slanderous things. But, on the whole for a story which stirred some passions, the reaction has been mostly passionate, but reasonable.

Chapman, upon the release of the tapes, apologized and expressed the wish to meet with black leaders and make amends. Tamkika Mallory, a member of Al Sharpton's group called for the show to be off the air at about the same time it was going down. This weekend, Sharpton himself issued a statement which called on Dog to march in an anti-hate demonstration at Jena, LA. No reaction from Dog on the Sharpton proposal.

Meanwhile, we also learned this weekend that Chapman's son, Tucker, sold the tapes for a "large sum of money" to the National Enquirer, which had released them. This wasn't the first time Tucker Chapman had sold the tabloids information on his perp-tracking father.

Tucker Chapman appears to have violated Hawaii law by making the tapes of the cellphone call without his father's knowledge.

That's where the situation stands now. Not much happening and it seems that Dog is laying low and taking the stand that "no news is good news."

Expect to hear more on this later today as everyone involved returns to their workaday routine after this bizarre and unfortunate incident.
