The National Rifle Association has just stepped into the fray, sending out a mailing about Barack Obama and his history of support for anti-gun legislation, according to Politico's Jonathan Martin.

The NRA is sending out a mailer attacking Barack Obama on gun issues to four million members, according to spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.

The gun-rights group is also sending the piece out to gun stores, gun shows and wherever shooters and sportsmen gather.

According to Politico, the NRA is printing six million copies.

Obama says, "I'm not going to take away your guns."

But, as in so much Obamabilia: the record and actions say something else altogether.

Students Protest Gun-Free Zones on College Campuses Around USA

"You can have my textbook and my gun, when you can pry them from my cold dead fingers." That might be the slogan of activists who are protesting gun-free zones on college campuses across the the USA this week.

It's what Evan Peck didn't carry around the Ohio State campus that he wanted people to notice yesterday.

Peck, 21, walked to his classes wearing an empty gun holster on his waist.

"You can carry (a gun) in several places, but Ohio prohibits you from carrying at a university or college," said Peck, a senior majoring in math and sociology.

"But this campus is the one place where I spend the most of my time, and I should be able to protect myself."

This week, students across the country -- including about 15 members of the OSU pistol club -- are wearing empty holsters to spark conversations about concealed-carry rules.

After the Virginia Tech shootings, stories began to come out in the press about similar incidents where the gunmen were taken down by students with weapons allowed under concealed-carry laws. Now more students want to feel safer.

Going to class doesn't mean surrendering your gun rights at the door.

Zero Tolerance, Zero Sense: Stick Figure Gun Gets 2nd-Grader Kicked Out of School

Zero tolerance often mean zero judgment or zero sense. A story for all those who raise questions when school boards pass any "zero tolerance" rules.
Salt Lake City Tribune:

A second-grader's drawing of a stick figure shooting a gun earned him a one-day school suspension. No stick figure gun rules were violated in the making of this story's commentary.

Kyle Walker, 7, was suspended last week for violating Dennis Township Primary School's zero-tolerance policy on guns, the boy's mother, Shirley McDevitt, told The Press of Atlantic City.

Kyle gave the picture to another child on the school bus, and that child's parents complained about it to school officials, McDevitt said. Her son told her the drawing was of a water gun, she said.

This is not the first time a stick figure gun has gotten a small fry artist booted from school. When people bring up questions about the abuse of common sense when zero tolerance rules or laws are being debated, they are often portrayed as "extreme".

It only takes a few of these examples to illustrate zero tolerance is often zero common sense.
