Jimmy Carter's Magical Misery Tour: Gaza, the EU and the USA

Beep! Beep! Come on, Jimmy! Time to go!

Jimmy Carter continues his brave but losing battle against diarrhea of the mouth.

Carter, ex-president, continued his nearly 3-decades-long "Crusade to Be Relevant" by calling for the European Union to break with the U.S. over Jimmy's Kids, the Palestinians.

Britain and other European governments should break from the US over the international embargo on Gaza, former US president Jimmy Carter told the Guardian yesterday. Carter, visiting the Welsh border town of Hay for the Guardian literary festival, described the EU's position on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute as "supine" and its failure to criticise the Israeli blockade of Gaza as "embarrassing".

Referring to the possibility of Europe breaking with the US in an interview with the Guardian, he said: "Why not? They're not our vassals. They occupy an equal position with the US."

Carter is no more relevant today than 30 years ago. To recount the blunderful Carter years would keep one busy for months--even if Jimmy suddenly went deaf, dumb and blind.

So, we turned to one of the best.

Click on image to enlarge (from Political Party Poop)

“When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.”
--Jimmy Carter, Glorious Ex-president

To which Snoop--of Political Party Poop--replied, "Jimmy Carter Yup, that’s what he said. The dictator “speaks for all the people.”

By now, Jimmy Carter knows that the only time he garners any press coverage is when he's either bashing the U.S., shilling for his paid clients, the Palestinians, or making some outrageously-dumbass statement.

By his above statements, he's gone 3-for-3.

Demonstrating an effectiveness never demonstrated in that four-year cycle of despair, gloom and slapstick known as the "Carter Years."

Minnesota HS Principal Cancels War Vets Appearance

AFRAID It Might Turn "Political"

Another f**king coward on the taxpayer dole.

This time from a Minneapolis area high school.

A national tour which featured decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan had to cancel its planned appearance at Forest Lake Area High School yesterday after school principal, Steve Massey, suddenly pulled the plug on the visit.
Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.

Massey said the school had gotten a few phone calls from parents and others, and some of those callers indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.

So if a public school is handing out condoms and parents protest, the school is portrayed as "courageous" for standing behind the power of the state and telling parents to, basically "shut your piehole".

But if a few non-parents call and threaten to demonstrate, pro-American events get canceled?

The principal's explaination--caving in to a few at the expense of the majority--most probably was copied from a NEA (National Education Association) press release.

Most likely titled, "What to do when your school is threatened by patriotism".
"The event was structured to be an academic classroom discussion around military service. We thought we'd provide an opportunity for kids to learn about service in the context of our history classes," Massey said. "As the day progressed, it became clear that this was becoming a political event ... which would be inappropriate in a public setting.
"We decided to cancel," Massey said. Organizers of the National Heroes Tour then scrambled to relocate the event to the American Legion building in Forest Lake. The visit, which U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, had been scheduled to attend, is sponsored by Vets for Freedom, a national organization run by Pete Hegseth, a 1999 graduate of Forest Lake Area High School who served with the 101st Airborne in Iraq in 2005-06.

"I think it's extremely unfortunate that a school would bow to the political pressure of outside groups and not bring in a veterans organization," Hegseth said. "Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?" So far, the tour has visited one school, albeit a private school.

The Forest Lake HS stop involved about 150 social studies students--and was closed to the public--and the media. The last-minute change left Hegseth wondering how many people would actually show up today.

Why did the 101st Airborne vet have to assure the principal "not to advocate about the progress made in Iraq and Afghanistan"?

Want to send the principal an email letting him know what you think?

Congress Moves to Seize Control of ALL Water

We would call it a "land grab", but it isn't that, exactly.

It's a power grab, a rights grab and a water grab.

Congress Moves To Seize Control Of All US Water From Bathtubs To Baptismal Fonts

Congress Moves To Give the Corps of Engineers Control Of All U.S. Waters

Now, some will say, "so what?"

Those would be the sheep in the crowd.

Thank God, their kind was in the minority 231 years ago.

And for many of those in Congress?

231 years ago, they would have been the agents of King George III.

From the American Land Rights Association:
Issue: Having been slapped down by the U. S. Supreme Court's recent decision that the words "navigable waters" in the Clean Water Act limited federal agencies to regulation of navigable waters only. Democrats and liberal Republicans in Congress are striking back.

They are attempting to pass the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007 (HR2421 and S1870) that would amend the 1972 Clean Water Act and replace the words "navigable waters" with "waters of the United States."

Further, it defines "waters of the United States" with such breathtaking scope that federal agencies would be required to regulate use of every square inch of the U.S., both public and private.

The proposed definition states: "The term 'waters of the United States' means all waters subject to ebb and flow of the tides, the territorial seas, and all interstate and intrastate waters and their tributaries, including lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sandflats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes [a flat dried up area, esp. a desert basin.] natural ponds and all impoundment of the foregoing, to the fullest extent that these waters are subject to the legislative power of Congress under the Constitution."

Obviously, those behind this legislation have only contempt for the Constitution, limited government and private property rights.

After the above explanation, a few relevant quotes followed, which we have reproduced below.
To understand what the framers of the Constitution intended, one need only look to their writings and the writings of those from whom they took wisdom and direction. A few of thousands of quotes follow:

"The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the law of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments from Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free."

- John Adams, A Defence of the Constitution of the United States against the Attacks of M. Turgot, 1787.

"What a man has honestly acquired is absolutely his own, which he may freely give, but cannot be taken from him without his consent."

- Samuel Adams, Massachusetts Circular Letter, 1768.

".'tis not without reason that [man] seeks out, and is willing to join in society with others who are already united, or have a mind to unite for the mutual preservation of their lives, liberties and estates which I call by the name of property."

- John Locke, Second Treatise of Government, 1690

"The property which every man has in his own labor, as it is the foundation of all other property, so it is the most sacred and inviolable."

- Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776

Another in the long line of continuing encircling tentacles of government and its regulations.

This time over water.

All water.

What's next? Air?

Zero Tolerence Policies Piss Me Off

An Experiment in Subliminally Educating Zero Tolerance Educators.

Florida's citizens rest a little easier today after a dangerous 10-year-old girl was arrested for using a knife to eat lunch at school.

(Zero tolerance pisses me off.}

The forces who push for "Zero Tolerance" laws have an outstanding record this year nationwide: no deaths have been recorded from toy soldiers, fingernail files, drawings of guns or kitchen utensils in schools with zero tolerance rules in effect.

All of the above dangers have led to elementary school thugs being either arrested or expelled for violating zero tolerance laws.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
Zero tolerance led the following potential felon being thwarted by the quick-thinking actions of a lunchroom monitor.
A 10-year old Ocala girl brought her lunch to school and a small kitchen knife to cut it. She now faces a felony charge after being arrested. The school and the sheriff's office disagree on the reason for the arrest.

{Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
Law enforcement raced to the scene to arrest the 10-year-old, but may have violated her rights when her Miranda Rights couldn't be heard over her criminal sobs.
School officials say the 5th grader was brown-bagging it. She brought a piece of steak for her lunch, but she also brought a steak knife. That's when deputies were called.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
It happened in the cafeteria at Sunrise Elementary School. The 10-year-old used the knife to cut the meat.

A spokesman for the Marion County Schools outlined the threat the girl posed.
"She did not use it inappropriately. She did not threaten anyone with it. She didn't pull it out and brandish it. Nothing of that nature," explained Marion County School Spokesman Kevin Christian.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
Fast-acting highly-trained professional educators sniffed out the danger, however.
But a couple of teachers took the utensil and called the sheriff. When deputies arrived, they were unable to get the child's parents on the phone, so they arrested her and took her to the county's juvenile assessment center.

Deputies explained the procedure.
"And we didn't handcuff her or treat her like a criminal. But, we took her to the assessment center to be assessed," said Capt. James Pogue, Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The 10-year-old wasn't treated like a criminal, except to be led away by armed law enforcement personal from an elementary school.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
School officials were quick to confirm why the public holds educators in such high regard.
School officials said it doesn't matter what the knife was being used for. They said they had no choice.

"Anytime there's a weapon on campus, yes, we have to report it and we aggressively report it because we don't want to take any chances, regardless," Christian said.
Teachers' unions want more pay, more benefits and more respect.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
The deputies issued a statement that put them on record as embarrassed. No such statement was coming from the school board, the principal or the teachers.
(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
But the sheriff's office said the extreme measures in what some may say was a harmless incident had to do with school policy, not theirs.

"But once we're notified, we have to take some type of action," Pogue explained.

The principal levied his justice; the criminal courts will have to decide theirs.
The student now faces a felony charge for the possession of a weapon on school property and the principal suspended her for ten days. The parents of the girl could not be reached for comment.

(Zero tolerance pisses me off.)
"Professional Educators": dumbass, bastards, dumbass, fools, buffoons, jerks, dumbass, fools, bumpkins, pompous, over-paid, dumbass, no-account, mindless, automatons, stupid.

Zero Tolerance policies: dumbass, bastards, dumbass, stupid, fools, buffoons, jerks, dumbass, fools, bumpkins, pompous, over-paid, dumbass, no-account, mindless, automatons.

[NOTE: This story is such an exhibition of stupidity, it's hard to keep one's thoughts straight. We'll calm down and write another ending as soon as the assholes in zero tolerance schools districts calm down and exhibit any sign of thinking or judgment. And we promise not to try to subliminally influence any educators who may be reading in the future. We're sorry for any inconvenience.]

Tell Us What You Really Think, Al

Al Gore's speech in Bali yesterday reminded RidesAPaleHorse of another angry speech maker. That speechifier would get angry at people who disagreed with his visions he had for the future.

He was a big environmentalist, too.
Al Gore savaged the US government’s “obstructing” attitude and urged delegates at the UN conference on climate change to ignore Washington if necessary to pursue the “moral imperative” of a new global regime.

“My country is principally responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali,” the former US vice-president told 2,000 of the 12,000 people attending the conference on Thursday. “[But] over the next two years the United States is going to be somewhere it is not now.”
Al Gore told the world what he thinks about the United States yesterday in Bali.

We have the good taste not to say what we think of Al Gore.

Okay, so you might be able to guess.

Sue us.

About Al Gore's mansion's energy use.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year.

We didn't hear the entire Gore speech from Bali yesterday.

Was there anything about environmentalist mansions in the Nashville area mentioned?

We didn't think so.

Citizen Journalism: "911, I'd Like to Report an Unregulated Blogger"

Danger to the Republic

People typing on keyboards endanger the Republic.

DAVID HAZINSKI offers humor from an expected source and tips about dealing with the "Evil Power of the Internet".

Hilarious musings from an ex-NBC guy who had the sense to find other employment.
Supporters of "citizen journalism" argue it provides independent, accurate, reliable information that the traditional media don't provide. While it has its place, the reality is it really isn't journalism at all, and it opens up information flow to the strong probability of fraud and abuse. The news industry should find some way to monitor and regulate this new trend.
Hazinski offers a solution. That's considerate.

DBKP would like to offer Hazinski a clue: the news industry's "monitor and regulate" policy toward what people read is at the bottom of this trend. More evidence that the mad professor needs to call Vanna.
The premise of citizen journalism is that regular people can now collect information and pictures with video cameras and cellphones, and distribute words and images over the Internet. Advocates argue that the acts of collecting and distributing makes these people "journalists." This is like saying someone who carries a scalpel is a "citizen surgeon" or someone who can read a law book is a "citizen lawyer." Tools are merely that. Education, skill and standards are really what make people into trusted professionals. Information without journalistic standards is called gossip.
What a dangerous, eroneous premise. Computers in the hands of regular Joes? What a menace.

We'd like to interject here that small-town reporters at news dailies resemble more closely their blogosphere brethren: they toil in the trenches, as likely to write about a cat caught in a tree as 'big stories'. They exhibit none of the arrogance we've come to expect from media gatekeepers in the "professional" major leagues.

They live among the subjects of their reports--unlike the denizens of CNN, New York Times, etc.

One images Haransky in the pre-Revolutionary American colonies: he'd be the one beating on John Peter Zenger's printing press with a pitchfork. Or shouting down Tom Paine.

Can't have the yokels putting out non-professional news without the guidance of their betters.

Similar danger stalked our Forefathers

Hazinski now has us rolling on the floor.

Having just anyone produce widely distributed stories without control can have the reverse effect from what advocates intend. It's just a matter of time before something like a faked Rodney King beating video appears on the air somewhere.
Kinda like fake documents showing up on the air at CBS Evening News right before the 2004 presidential election? Kinda like Dan Rather saying that he (alone) knew the truth?

Or kinda like NBC's faked Pinto videos? Those were 'recreations' of how dangerous the Ford product was to the public. Only they didn't say they'd rigged the Pinto with an explosive charge to make sure we got the point/joke?

Hazinski's prescription to this dangerous power? Regulation, clarification and certification.
• Major news organizations must create standards to substantiate citizen-contributed information and video, and ensure its accuracy and authenticity.

• They should clarify and reinforce their own standards and work through trade organizations to enforce national standards so they have real meaning.

• Journalism schools such as mine at the University of Georgia should create mini-courses to certify citizen journalists in proper ethics and procedures, much as volunteer teachers, paramedics and sheriff's auxiliaries are trained and certified.
Professor Hazinski (a former alumni of NBC News, sister organization of MSNBC, home of uber-journalists such as Keith Olbermann, Rosie O'Donnell and Chris Matthews) sums it all up in a big finish.
But we have already seen the line between news and entertainment blur enough to destroy significant credibility. Continuing to do nothing as information flow changes will further erode it. Journalism organizations who choose to do nothing may soon find the line between professional and citizen journalism gone as well as the trust of their audiences.
The wacky professor is too coy.

Who blurred that line, Prof? It wasn't a thousand blogs like DBKP; we're mere pikers in the blurring biz.

But we're going to be generous and offer professor Hazinski what he didn't offer the dangerous citizen journalists who are threatening his beloved NBC and other big "professional" media: a clue.

How about a little honesty, Prof?

Quit the sham that "professional journalists" are anything other than a bunch of guys--and a few gals--sitting around discussing your likes and dislikes and writing it into your evening newscasts.

When the gossip clubs known as "professional" media lowers their masks, I suspect part of the blogosphere may lower their disdain for the media gatekeepers and their apologists like Hazinski.

Citizens typing on keyboards are no danger to the Republic.

We are a danger to Hazinski's buddies in the big "professional" media, however.

Lori Drew, Megan Had it Coming: HOAX!!

Prankster Laughs While Dancing on Dead Girl's Grave

Something to tell the grandkids about, for sure.

The author of the Megan Had it Coming blog is revealed to be a smart-stepping prankster.

But it was getting too hot in the faux-blog kitchen.

The hoax-monger purports to "demonstrate the collective stupidity of thousands of Internet users who confuse replying to blogs for having actual intellectual discourse."

We're not so sure about all that.

It did demonstrate that the jokester had something on his hands other than the remains of a creepy masturbatory experience: time.

The Final Story

It really hurts to do this, considering everything everone has been through, but I have to do it. I know there's been a lot of confusion about this blog and me, so I want to lay it all to rest.

As you know, Mr. Briscoe has been working diligently to get this blog taken down despite my wishes. I understand that he's trying to protect the family, and I respect that. But, I don't want to be silenced. Not after everything I've gone through.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been supportive (or at least fair) of my viewpoint. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. It is because of you that I have found the strength to continue my struggle for real justice. And for all of you who continue to vilify me, I can only hope that you will one day open your eyes and see what you have done to an innocent human being. Your callous lack of remorse in your collective attempts to destroy this family disgusts me. But I won't be afraid of you anymore.

For everyone who doubts who this is, and the truth of what I write, I want you to watch this video very carefully:

In case this blog gets taken down, I will do my best to continue to fight for my side of the story here: Megan Had it Coming

Posted by Megan Had It Coming at 9:26 PM

Little Baby Ginn and Mondo Talk to the Blog's Author--Sorta

Seeking discourse--first Little Baby Ginn, and then yours truly--went over to the MHIC blog, in hopes of meeting it's author.

He was still there.

So was Beowulf.

The author apparently was the sensitive sort: he lurked on the blog for awhile, erasing comments which critiqued his style, some rather hurriedly.

He particularly singled out Beowulf, who had hurt his feelings; and LBG, who kept posting "Where did Beowulf's comments go?" and "Why do you keep deleting me?"

What a letdown: he didn't delete any of mine. And the following wasn't half bad:

MONDOREB said...

Hey beowulf:

What do you call a guy who yells at a picture of a guy with a bag on his head?

Give up?

****!

stop it...you're killing me!

December 10, 2007 12:02 AM

Beowulf, had it about right in his first of several comments the blog's author deleted:
"It was sloppily executed and crass for using a dead girl and her family. I give it a C-."

The blog's author, demonstrating his commitment to "actual intellectual discourse" promptly deleted it.

I gave it a 2. You couldn't dance to it

There was more, but it wasn't very exciting, so LBG and I left.

The blog's author?

Well, we don't know what he's doing now. Probably getting over that sad, empty feeling he experienced when he realized he was no longer Lori Drew. But he did pretend he was a girl, referring to the blog's author as "she".

We're not sure what that means: we're not shrinks.

Will the authorities catch up to him?

We'll see.

Now, we close the book on one twist in this exceedingly curvy tale.

* * *

Our main question at the moment is: Where was Blogger.com?

Where was Google?

The blog clearly violated several points on their Terms of Service. They were aware of this. They were the only ones aware of this, other than the blog's author.

Yet, they did not act.

The blog is still up and our Blog Clock is still running.

21 days 14 hours 55 minutes since the blog went up.

Maybe Google would like to issue another statement?

We'll wait.

Sid Blumenthal Farewell Twofer:
Last Story for Salon Is First For Clinton

Goodbye Mr. Blumenthal!

A departing Sid Blumenthal disproves the maxim, "no man can serve two masters". His last piece for old boss, Salon, "Goodbye Mr. Bush" is the same as his first for new boss, Hillary Clinton.

Reading the opening, one suspects that Sid is guilty of double-dipping.
The Republican will to power remains ferocious. It will take a dauntless Democratic leader to win back the White House and restore dignity to the Constitution.

Under crisis conditions of an extraordinary magnitude political leadership of the highest level will be required in the next presidency. The damage is broad, deep and spreading, apparent not only in international disorder and violence, the unprecedented decline of U.S. prestige, and the flouting of our security and economic interests but also in the hollowing out of the federal government's departments and agencies, and their growing incapacity to fulfill their functions, from FEMA to the Department of Justice.
Bye Sid

That Blumenthal penned the next sentence without laughing to tears is proof that he's a perfect fit for the Clinton war room.

"The patently perverse notion that weakness is strength is the basis of Bush's remaining credibility within his party."

Coming from someone present during the gutting of the U.S. miltary--Codename: the "Peace Dividend"--this is good stuff. He has the reader hooked. Salon is losing a keeper in Blumenthal.

Goodbye Mr. Blumenthal

This campaign pits two parties running on diametrically opposite ideas of the presidency and the Constitution. There has not been such a sharp divergence on the foundation of the federal system since perhaps the election of 1860.
The farewell's apex is reached in that one paragraph. All before and after are Blumethal/Clinton boilerplate.

Don't Forget to Write, Sidney

"The Democrats at key junctures have been seduced by the illusion of anti-politics to their own detriment."

With this masterpiece of self-parody, Sidney Blumenthal closes his anti-Bush piece with a warning on the pitfalls of anti-politics. He also closes out his regular columns for Salon. One door closes and another one opens.

Goodbye Mr. Blumental.

12 All-time Great Dennis Kucinich Quotes

To Start Your Morning Right

The Gipper's likely reaction to the latest Kucinich pronouncement?

Who doesn't like a good Dennis Kucinish quote? Congressman and Democrat presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich's latest statement on the mental health of President Bush is just the latest in a long line of memorable quotes. We present, for your edification, a dirty dozen.

"We cannot hope to end terrorism by killing terrorists."
--On Dennis 4 President website.
"I am running for President of the United States to enable the goddess of peace to encircle within her reach all the children of this country and all the children of the world.
--Speech, Cleveland City Council (13 October 2003)
"Everyday this Administration sits on the sidelines the chance for a peaceful resolution becomes less likely. Every day this Administration sits on the sidelines more innocent civilians on all sides are dying. Every day this Administration sits on the sidelines America's already poor reputation in the world community gets worse.
The Administration seems content to sit on the sidelines as a full-blown regional war breaks out. What are they waiting for, the Apocalypse?
--On Kucinich For Congress website

"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health."
"There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."
--interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board, 10-30-07.

ON SEPTEMBER 11:
“I believe the best way to honor the memory of those who died on Sept. 11 is to tell the truth of what the administration did in the wake of Sept. 11,” Kucinich said in a statement. “The Bush administration launched a war against Iraq, conflating the true tragedy of September 11 with lies about weapons of mass destruction.”
--on Kucinich for Congress website.
ON THE PATRIOT ACT:
"The "Patriot Act" is not what American patriots have fought and died for. To allow our Bill of Rights to be nullified without judicial supervision invites tyranny. The Attorney General has been handed unfettered power to wiretap, search, jail, and invade our most sacred right to privacy. The government must not be allowed, without probable cause or warrant, to snoop on our communications, medical records, library records, and student records.
--On Kucinich for Congress website.
KUCINICH's SOURCE OF INSPIRATION:
"After I lost the [mayoral] election in Cleveland in 1979, I moved to California for a while. I actually remember walking in the area around L.A. known as MacArthur Park, and I was thinking of that song and thinking of the lyrics where they talk about 'Someone left the cake out in the rain. It took so long to make it.' And it goes on, raising the question of whether I'll ever have that recipe again."
–-Real Change.org
"Mr. Speaker, the administration, through senior Air Force officials, wants the U.S. to achieve military supremacy in outer space. Dominating all earth from outer space will have an out-of-world price tag, perhaps more than $1 trillion."
--Speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, Congressional Record (19 May 2005)
DENNIS KUCINICH, WORLD LEADER:
Furthermore, I'm also a board member of Parliamentarians for Global Action, which is one of the largest group of parliamentarians in the world, and I meet regularly with world leaders from countries throughout... around the globe.
--Real Change.org

On HILLARY and JOHN EDWARDS' ELECTION-FIXING ATTEMPTS:
"Whispering, trying to rig an election, then denying what's going on and making excuses. It all reflects a consistent lack of integrity."
--Telephone interview with CBS News
July 13, 2007
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D. OH) - 7-13-07 - speaking of Edwards' (and Hillary's) attempts to exclude candidates from the televised debates

Dennis Kucinich remarks about the open Microphones on Hillary and Silky Pony.
“Candidates, no matter how important or influential they perceive themselves to be, do not have and should not have the power to determine who is allowed to speak to the American public and who is not,” said Kucinich.

“Imperial candidates are as repugnant to the American people and to our Democracy as an imperial President.”

Kucinich Questions Bush's Mental Health?

What's wrong with this picture?

One week after the headlines talked about how Dennis Kucinich achieved a mental connection with space aliens, Kucinich talked about the President tenuous grasp on reality? Apparently, Kucinich is trying out pilot plots for a TV movie--work he can do after his constituents tire of the "Pride of Cleveland".

When the one of the highlights of the Democrat Debate is Kucinich take on mental health, made before the debates even started, you know the pickin's are slim. They were. But the Ohio Congressman was in rare form.

The 'Mistake by the Lake'--take your pick whether it refers to Kucinich or Cleveland--returned to a height of absurdity not seen since the Cuyahoga River caught fire a couple times in the 1960s. The AP has the money quote.
"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."

Coming from a man who communes with messengers from Outer Space, this is some condemnation.

But Kucinich has to attract attention somehow: his poll numbers seem to be stuck in the 1-2% range. That won't win Ohio even if every ward heeler on the Democrat payroll gets every dog in Greater Cleveland to vote. Next week, expect Dennis to join a seance with gypsies to ask advice on the War in Iraq from some dead Civil War general.

Kucinich asking questions about your mental health is like Elmer Fudd questioning your hunting ability.

Bill Maher's Melting Ice Cap Costume:

Help Out, Go Undercover

Salon gives space to Bill Maher to flesh out things that go bump in the night, as he twists up a little something to help take the edge off the fear.

Bill Maher scares his reader at Salon:
What's really scary this Halloween is that the same group of idea-free losers who won the last presidential election could win the next one by making us afraid of the wrong things. Which is why this year for Halloween, I'm going as something truly horrifying: a melting polar ice cap.

This week -- as every week -- all the Republican candidates talked about was who was toughest in the war on terror. While the country's most populous state literally burned. The Democrats, as usual, said nothing, because they didn't want to offend fire.

The Republicans, including the scaremonger in chief, sell themselves as protectors of our safety. But since they're all, except for McCain, armchair warriors, they're only comfortable protecting us from fears they made up. Like the way Iran is itching for a war with the United States now. Ahmadinejad is pure evil! Terror has a new name, and it's nearly unpronounceable.
Comedy, much like magic, is the art of misdirection. Giving your audience something they're not expecting is the key. After a promising headline, the rest of the piece is vintage Maher ; i.e., we've heard it all before, so it's neither surprising nor chuckle-inducing. Unless one is in the throes of an ether binge, ala Hunter Thompson.

Al Gore and his tales of melting ice caps scare Bill Maher; terrorists don't. Sounds like Bill's a perfect candidate for Kandahar. There, Maher could fight the terrorists he doesn't fear, even go undercover. Perhaps he could use his scary melting ice cap costume.

W.M.D. in Iran? U.S.A.Take Action?
M.D. in N.Y.T. Writes About E.D.C.?

Q.E.D. To the Max

This is getting to be too much like the synapses of a lab rat clicking. Mo Dowd needs to come up with a column idea, Evil Dick Cheney is the subject, then we respond to it. Our keyboard and Dowd's both need a Pavlovian drool shield.

The latest on Evil Dick Cheney, related as Dowd channels the spirit of Scarlett O'Hara, gazing skyward and breathlessly intoning "tomorrow is another day", in the New York Times:
RUSSERT: First you threatened to take action if Iran built a nuclear weapon. Now you’re threatening to take action if Iran knows how to build a nuclear weapon. What’s next? You threaten to take action if Ahmadinejad dresses up as a nuclear weapon for Halloween?

CHENEY: Well, the difficulty here is, each time he has rejected what he was called upon to do by the international community. I’m not sure now, no matter what he says, that anyone would believe him. He’s pretending he doesn’t have W.M.D., just like Saddam.
And then the big finish.
RUSSERT: It’s so close to the next election, Mr. Vice President, shouldn’t you just keep on the diplomatic track and let the next president make this decision?

CHENEY: You really want Rudy Giuliani playing with the nuclear button, Tim? Now, that’s insane.

The above excerpt is representative of the whole. Evil Dick Cheney and his Malicious Minions are beating on the war drums and dancing madly around a campfire somewhere in Washington. All the while, poor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is off giving nuclear alms to widows.

And in New York, Mo Dowd is thinking, "Doesn't anyone realize the danger? I must warn them! Quick Lassie! Go get Timmy!" This episode's Guest Star: Rudy Giuliani as "The Nuclear Madman"!

Nuclear Arms in Iran? The U.S. Take Action? Maureen takes on Evil Dick Cheney?

The Mysterious Syrian Fires--ISRAEL VOWS TO WIPE SYRIA OFF THE MAP

[above: recent Google Earth views of the areas burning around Aleppo]
by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

The mysterious fires burning out of control across northern Syria has attracted the attention of more than just Smokey the Bear
From Gateway Pundit:
Israel issued the threat after the news this week that a chemical weapons explosion in Halab, Syria killed dozens of Iranians and Syrians. The explosion at the Syrian test site spread chemical weapons including sarin gas.
From the NY Daily News:
Politicians in Israel said yesterday they were not picking a fight with their neighbor, but pledged to forcefully retaliate if chemical warheads come screaming across its shared border.

"We will not attack them first. But if they ever use these weapons against Israel, then we must be clear — it will be the end of this evil and brutal dictatorship," Yuval Steinitz, a right-wing member of the Israeli parliament, told the Daily News yesterday.

Sparking shock waves across the Middle East was a report in Jane's Defence Weekly about an accidental explosion at a top secret Syrian base in July.

Citing Syrian intelligence sources, the report claimed a team of Iranian and Syrian engineers were killed July 26 while trying to arm a Scud-C missile with a mustard gas warhead.
Syria was arming Scud-C missles with mustard gas?
Has Nancy Pelosi issued any statements about her buddy, Assad?
Does she plan to don her burqua, prance over to Syria to kiss it all better?
Is there a better demonstration of the intents and aims of America's enemies?

The Democratic Party: take notice. When you practice your ridiculous buffoonery on U.S. TV and in your debates, there are more people around the world listening to your suicidal defeatism than just DailyKOS and Huffington Post.

Health Care: Little Baby Ginn Interviews JOHN EDWARDS?

YOU SAY "MANDATORY", I SAY "NANNY STATE"

by Little Baby Ginn

I’m sitting here thinking about John Edwards and I’m thinking what the heck is he? I know for a fact that he’s loves to run for office, he’s turned his bid for the Democratic Presidential hopeful into his “occupation” and why not? He gets to go out and schmooze people while they fork over their money so he can keep going out and schmooze more people. A “perpetual schmoozing” machine with perhaps an Oval Office prize at the end. The press follows him around, the gullible fawn over him, and if for some reason Hillary and Obama were to fall out of the race, then, hey, who’s the Dems gonna call? Johnny On The Spot Edwards.

Avast ye, Johnny! Yarrr! I'll run ye through!

So I wonder, here he is, out campaigning, and saying stuff. Is anyone paying attention? Did anyone happen to catch Johnny’s latest Deep Thoughts on “Mandatory Health Care.” Here’s what Johnny had to say:

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem." Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread.

Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

"The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death," he said.

More here.

I decided to sit down and have an imaginary question and answer session with Johnny Edwards.

Me: So John, I read your statement about your plans for a national health care system and all I can say is, cool beans, John!

John: Why thank you very much, Little Baby Ginn and I can tell by looking at you that you’re in perfect health.

Me: Why thank you, John Edwards, and yes, I am. Let me read what you said the other day. You said about your proposed national health care plan, “It requires that everybody be covered.” This is slightly different than say, everyone is covered, right?”

Johnny: Well, that’s not true, Little Baby Ginn, see, under my plan, everyone is covered, so if you get sick, you have medical care, the finest medical care.”

Me: “Well, that’s terrific but you also said this:

“If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."
That kind of sounds to me, you know, if you don’t choose a doctor then you’re out of luck?”

Johnny: I wouldn’t put it that way, Little Baby Ginn, I said, you need to pick a doctor…”

Me: Yes, you said from “birth to death.”

Johnny: That’s right, from birth to death, the whole idea is continuum of care so that you will be able to prevent a future illness. Everyone has to be healthy.

Me: What if you decide you don’t like the idea of being forced to see a doctor? That you’d prefer to see a doctor, say, when you got sick?”

Johnny: Well, (laughs), that’s a bad decision, you need to have a doctor and see one regularly in order to prevent illness.

Me: Well, this, on its face, is true. But some would like to have a choice on whether or not they’d want to have to go see a doctor. To some, this smacks of Big Brother and the way I see it, you say that if someone doesn’t choose to see a doctor then they forfeit their right to health care.

Johnny: This is true, either you’re in the program or you don’t get the benefits.

Me: So if someone pays taxes which funds this program and they decide not to follow your rules then they will be locked out, right? Even though they paid for it?”

Johnny: I wouldn’t look at it that way, Little Baby Ginn, that’s too cynical.

Me: But true, right? No follow your rules, no health care?”

Johnny: No, not true, again you’re being misleading.
