GOOD THING AHMADINEJAD DOESN'T BELIEVE IN THE GOLDEN RULE

He'd Never Set Foot Near Ground Zero
Mark Steyn's Take on the Iranian Nutbag

by Mondoreb

Mark Steyn got it exactly right about Ahmadinejad's NYC visit during his weekly interview on the Huge Hewitt show on Townhall.com.
MS: I think the correct attitude to these things is a very simple one. Under the agreement by which the United Nations sits in New York City, the United States cannot deny entry to any foreign head of state. That being so, he should land at the airport, he should go directly to the United Nations, and no state or municipal or other officials should offer him these courtesies in any way. This would be a disgusting photo op that he would use to his advantage back home. And the City of New York should not be cooperating with him.
Steyn gives Mitt Romney a plug concerning Romney's stand against a previous Iranian President.
MS: That’s right. If he wants to see the results of Islamist terrorism, there are a lot of places he can visit much nearer to home. In fact, Mitt Romney, one of the best things he ever did was to deny the state troopers protection facility to Ahmadinejad’s predecessor when he was invited to speak at Harvard. And Mitt Romney had the right line on this. If Harvard wanted to issue these idiotic invitations, that’s up to them. But the taxpayers of Massachusetts are not going to fund the visit by providing protection for these guys. And in the end, the event was cancelled. And that’s exactly the line that the state of New York should be taking, too.

Ordinary Americans will be shocked to discover there are officials in NYC who see nothing wrong with giving Ahmadinejad a key to the city. It's up to those same ordinary Americans to let New York City know exactly how they feel.

In a world of perfect karma, Ahmadinejad would be captured by American "students" and held hostage for over a year, paraded before TV cameras and threatened almost daily with death.

* IRANIAN OFFICER SEIZED IN IRAQ

Iranian Denials to Follow: ”He Was a Tourist With Explosive Inclinations”

by Mondoreb

By now, everyone knows their parts: Iranian is captured by U.S. forces in Iraq, Iran issues denials, the Europeans and the UN will issue calls "to remain calm" and more Americans fighting in Iraq will die.
US-led forces in Iraq say they have arrested an Iranian officer operating in the north of the country.
They say the man was a member of the Quds Force - an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards - and was detained in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya.

"This individual has been involved in transporting improvised explosive devices," the American military said.
More on this BBC story.
It's perfectly OK for Iran to be operating in Iraq trying to kill American soldiers--if they had the balls to declare war. Since they don't, it's only fitting that the 'cowboys from the U.S.' do it for them. And do it before they become nuclear-armed.

Throbbing Memo Anniversary: MSM vs. the Blogosphere

Your Ad Here

The 'Throbbing Memo':
Dan Rather, CBS News Not the Only Ones Put on Notice
Blogosphere Comes of Age
Now Watching the 'Watchdogs'

The famous "throbbing" memo at Little Green Footballs
[NOTE: Our memo might not "throb"; for that you'll have to visit LGF.]

"I opened Apple’s TextEdit word processor, and with default settings typed in the same text from the August 18, 1973 memo as found at CBS News, with the same Times New Roman font at the same 12 point size."

That sentence, posted on Fri, Sep 10, 2004 at 4:40:11 pm PST at Little Green Footballs by Charles Johnson, signaled the beginning of the end for American dependence on the gatekeepers of the Mainstream Media for their news.

As Johnson wrote today, "Four years ago, the Dreaded Throbbing Memo that haunts Dan Rather’s fevered dreams was born."

According to Wikipedia--not the best source for current and/or political events; as any who sought unbiased, well-sourced info on either John Edwards' scandal or Sarah Palin can attest:

The Killian documents controversy (also referred to as Memogate, Rathergate or Rathergate) involved six documents critical of President George W. Bush's service in the Air National Guard in 1972-1973. Four of these documents[2] were presented as authentic in a 60 Minutes Wednesday broadcast aired by CBS on September 8, 2004, less than two months before the 2004 Presidential Election, but it was later found that CBS had failed to authenticate the documents.[5] Subsequently, several typewriter and typography experts concluded the documents are forgeries, as have some media sources. No forensic document examiners or typography experts have authenticated the documents, and this may not be technically possible without original documents. The provider of the documents, Lt. Col. Bill Burkett, claims to have burned the originals after faxing copies to CBS.[9]

CBS News producer Mary Mapes obtained the copied documents from Burkett, a former officer in the Texas Army National Guard, in the course of pursuing a story about the George W. Bush military service controversy. The papers, purportedly made by Bush's commander, the late Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian, included criticisms of Bush's service in the Guard during the 1970s. In the 60 Minutes segment, anchor Dan Rather stated "we are told [the documents] were taken from Lieutenant Colonel Killian’s personal files" and incorrectly asserted that "the material" had been authenticated by experts retained by CBS.

The original throbbing memo can be seen at Another CBS Document Experiment

This episode led to CBS News first stonewalling, then later firing Dan Rather.

Four years later, CBS is still stonewalling: look no further than the blackout of any news the John Edwards affair/scandal/cover-up prior to August 8th, when Edwards called Bob Schieffer and, in effect, told CBS and Schieffer it was okay to now mention the story.

In the Edwards' story, CBS was joined by the entire posse of the Mainstream Media. Only the intrepid persistence of the National Enquirer and some blogs finally broke through the determined MSM "cone of silence".

[Background information: access over 100 DBKP stories on the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter affair, scandal and cover-up: John Edwards Love Child Scandal Library.]

Even after Edwards was confronted by the Enquirer's reporters on July 21 and barricaded himself in a Beverly Hilton mens room, the watchdogs in the MSM didn't think any of that was news--even though Edwards had just been named by Time magazine as being on Barack Obama's short list for vice-president.

Now shift to another party, another VP: the same MSM that ignored the Edwards story is operating under a completely different standard.

The Mainstream Media is crawling all over Alaska in an effort to uncover something--anything--negative to write about Sarah Palin, John McCain's VP choice. Not being able to find anything classified as "dirt" hasn't stopped the almost-hourly binge of negative Palin stories in the MSM.

If the press had expended 1% of the effort in the Edwards story it has in trying to find something "bad" about Palin, the John Edwards' story would have been dealt with in December and January.

All this brings us back to the "throbbing memo".

Dan Rather and CBS News tried to influence the 2004 election by releasing a story based on forged documents--and got caught by the blogosphere.

Four years later, CBS and the MSM are still at in the business of trying to influence elections, this time by their 24/7 attacks on the conservative Republican VP.

This time around there is not only Charles Johnson's Little Green Footballs watching them do it: there's a cast of, literally, thousands to assist.

Happy Anniversary, Blogosphere vs. the Mainstream Media.

Happy Fourth Anniversary, "throbbing memo"!

CBS Evening News, Initiative Opponents Team Up For Lesson in Investigative Journalism

CBS Evening News Features Courage Campaign Derring-Do

The crack investigative ethic at CBS Evening News, the Courage Campaign, and DailyKOS combine to bust initiative workers and Crooks and Liars brings in a guest to hand out the plaudits.
It is not every day that something from a blog post ends up in the CBS Evening News, but then again using children with cancer to try and steal the White House is pretty egregious. A diarist at Daily Kos noticed that the dirty tricksters, who are advancing an initiative that would switch 20 of California’s electoral college votes to the Republicans were using children’s cancer as a bait-and-switch to get people to sign the initiative and place it on the ballot. The Courage Campaign sent a film crew led by Erik Love to go tape Arno’s signature gatherers (pdf) and we caught them red-handed.

Julia Rosen is the Political Director for the Courage Campaign. CBS Evening News' Dan Rather urged viewers with his trademark: "Courage". Rosen then congratulates soulmate CBS for its courage--well, okay, the pub CC received, anyway.
That video was featured in the weekend edition of the CBS Evening news. Watch the clip. It is a particularly good segment on the initiative. And special thanks to John for grabbing that clip for us.
Of course, Rosen is right: this is a textbook example of how journalists safeguard the Republic from the misdeeds of those who plead for initiative signers. CBS Evening News, alerted by DailyKOS, abetted by the Courage Campaign, is once again a hotbed of investigative innovation.

Hundreds of dishwashers and busboys, who barely speak English, pony up $2300 apiece to Hillary Clinton's campaign: that's not quite so interesting a story.

But CBS is to be applauded. As Rosen points out: opponents busting initiative workers doesn't happen every day.

The chicanery of Clinton campaign fund-raising is old news.

BLOG OF THE WEEK:

Little Green Footballs

[fotos: top:LGF, middle:from LGF thread bottom: arellis49]
by Little Baby Ginn
--notes by mondoreb

This week we take a look at that thorn in the side of the Left, the source of uncounted vapor trails of venom at DailyKOS and the inspiration of Leftard fantasies in suburban basements across America: Little Green Footballs.

With a total of almost 4.5 million comments and growing, Little Green Footballs is a tour de force in the political blog world. Its originator, Charles Johnson, single handedly built a place for posters to not only get the latest news on the war on terror but to also comment in a community that sometimes gets raucous but never fails to inform.

Famous for being instrumental in exposing CBS’ Dan Rather and Mary Mapes’ attempt to discredit President Bush during the 2004 elections with the famous “Killian” documents, Little Green Footballs, or LGF, has been called a racist hate monger site, rabidly anti-Muslim.

The “throbbing memo” was the technical piece of evidence that showed quite succinctly that the “memos” supposedly written “18 August 1973” by the late Lt. Colonel Jerry B. Killian were an exact match to Johnson’s Microsoft Word Version 2004.

Bush Guard Documents: Forged
Thur, Sep 9, 2004 at 10:24:36 am PST
2004.
I opened Microsoft Word, set the font to Microsoft’s Times New Roman, tabbed over to the default tab stop to enter the date “18 August 1973,” then typed the rest of the document purportedly from the personal records of the late Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian.
And my Microsoft Word version, typed in 2004, is an exact match for the documents trumpeted by CBS News as “authentic.”

Little Green Footballs tries to be ahead of the curve in news and opinion pieces posted on the blog. The majority of those will never be found on the pages of the MSM nor on the big news networks. LGF has become a watchdog of the MSM, a prime example being the exposure of the altered photos Reuters had published from a freelance photographer based in the Middle East.

Faux photography: The Rueters' pix.. The photographer, Adnan Hajj, had submitted photos to Reuters for a period of over ten years. LGF found that two photographs showed evidence of manipulation at the time during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon Conflict. CJ posted the photos online; the posters at LGF had the opportunity to weigh in on the subject. Reuters subsequently admitted that the photos in question did show manipulation and that they would no longer use Hajj’s work. LGF brought into question Retuers' credibility several more times when it took a closer, more stringent look at the “news” being sent out over the Reuter wires.

Synergy in action. Posters play an important part in submitting new stories or alerting Johnson to what has transpired in their part of the world. The comments themselves are a reading post of Silent America. Claims of racism at LGF abound. But like many Leftist howls, they don't hold up. If the Left produced porn, it would be a movie of Liberals constructing a "new man", i.e., one that would deny its humanity. LGF, by pointing out human foibles earns the fury of the Left and its favorite pejorative: "racist".

The posts at LGF voice concerns over the eerie parallels between the 1930’s pre-WWII and the events that transpire today. They examine the increasing spread of Islamism through various parts of the world and the governments who give into their demands rather than standing up to them. Religion is not a race. To look at the religion of Islam with a critical eye is not racism. "Racism" is a favorite cry whenever one disagrees with what is being said.

Israel.Israel is our most important ally in the Middle East. Ahmadinejad and Iran have spoken, written, and are on tape verbalizing their hatred of Israel, their goal to push Israel and all Zionists into the sea, their attempts to sugarcoat the Holocaust. LGF is pro-Israel which means that the truths about those who seek Israel’s demise are being exposed on an almost daily basis.

Mainstream Media. LGF also exposes the bias and current erosion of professionalism of the MSM. The fact that LGF has caught the MSM time and time again in acts of sheer laziness and the ability to skew and/or slant a story especially in the matter of the war on terror and Islamism.

LGF: A Closed Shop? One reads claims that LGF never allows new registrations. This is most certainly not true. Claims that a poster will be banned if they disagree with the current meme are not valid. What isn't tolerated are posters who are abusive, use certain types of crude language, or call for genocide for violence or genocide. [note: In the last two months, there have been at least 15 Open Registration periods.]

The Disaffected. If no one reads your site, you never make any enemies; but you never make a difference either. It's a measure of LGF's success that there are at least two anti-LGF sites. A quick look at their posts reveal that without LGF, they would cease to exist. I would have added DailyKOS to the mix, but they're anti-mainstream Amercan, an not strictly anti-LGF.

Et Sumus Minora Greenus Footballeus All in all, LGF never fails to inform. Like any large forum, either in life or on the internet, some posts are insightful, at times outrageous and occasionally banal. The posters are quite adept at pointing out the bizarre, the hypocritical, the ironic, and sometimes the obvious. The community is diverse. There are no pledges to be made such as “you have to be a Democrat.” Free speech is encouraged: it’s a great place to hone one’s debating skills. If you want to be taken seriously, be ready to submit proof; it's not enough to "feel". Posters who think "feelings" are a substitute for reason and logic should save themselves the trouble and head over to the Huffington Post, where that viewpoint is demonstrated daily.

At times it’s not for the faint of heart and a quiver of verbal arrows should be in reach. But the majority of the time it’s a place where one can share in discussions over topics that affect the U.S. now and in the future; where one can voice their opinion; where the stories that the MSM should be reporting will be posted then dissected and at times, hysterically fun.

Courage

With Dan Rather in the news lately, the word "courage" and it's relationship to Mainstream Media-types (like Rather) has been bandied about. Red Planet Cartoons reminds us about real courage: who has it, who possesses it and who doesn't.

RATHERGATE REDEAUX:

Dan Rather Threatened CBS News Over Bush National Guard Documents

DRUDGE REPORT EXCLUSIVE!

Rather Caught Again in Another Lie?

OH! The Hypocrisy of It All!

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn
[photo at left: Howard Kurtz's new book "Reality Show"]

From The Drudge Report

Former CBSNEWS anchor Dan Rather pressured CBS to air the failed Bush/National Guard story in September 2004, Howard Kurtz reports in his new blockbuster book: REALITY SHOW: INSIDE THE LAST GREAT TELEVISION NEWS RACE. Rather claims in his lawsuit against CBS that he wasn't involved in the final decision to run the Memogate story.

After finishing nearly two years of research, Kurtz unleashes his book this week.

Excerpt:

The night before the story was tentatively scheduled to air, Rather was sitting at the anchor desk, with less than half an hour before the start of the Evening News. He called Josh Howard, who had recently been named as executive producer of 60 Minutes Wednesday, and asked what they were doing to promote his story.

“We’re not,” Howard said. “We haven’t gotten the lawyers to sign off. The script isn’t finished. We haven’t even talked to the White House. I’m not going to start promoting a story when we don’t know what we have.” That was not the answer Rather wanted to hear.

“Other people are chasing this story,” he said. “We’re going to lose our exclusive. We have to get our hooks into the story.”

When Howard again refused, Rather raised the stakes.

“I’m going to give one of the documents to The New York Times to run in Wednesday’s paper,” he said. “They’ll have to credit CBS News. That way we can put our stamp on it.”

“You can’t do that either,” Howard said. “We haven’t finished vetting this.” Rather grumbled and hung up. To raise the specter of giving away a scoop to a competing news outlet was practically unheard of.

Howard, who had once been an Evening News producer, had never been subjected to this kind of pressure. He did, however, have a backup plan. They were still in rerun season, so if the Guard story failed to get the green light, he had a previously aired program ready to go.

Once again, Dan Rather's arrogance has come back to haunt him--although the word 'haunt' implies that his hubis had died and come to life. Rather's arrogance is alive and well and never even took sick.

The truth is finally coming to light. Rather continues to implode.

Courage, Dan.

KOPPEL on RATHER:

IT WAS A TRAVESTY

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

Boiling down Ted Koppel's take on the $70m Dan Rather lawsuit against CBS, it comes down to one sentence: Bird of a feather and all of that. Koppel, late of ABC, sticks close by his comrade-in-arms. $70 million might not soothe Dan's ruffled feeling, but it's a start.
From TV WEEK
Calling the ouster of Dan Rather from CBS News in 2006 a “travesty,” newsman Ted Koppel said today that he hopes the $70 million suit filed by Mr. Rather against CBS and Viacom will bring Mr. Rather “relief from his [emotional] pain.”

Newspeople show how different they truly are from the rest of us, the small, insignificant TV-watchers who pay their inflated salaries. A "band-of-brothers" mentality apparently permeates the Network News World.
Mr. Koppel said he “hurt” for Mr. Rather, whom he characterized as a friend. Addressing the “60 Minutes” report about President George Bush’s National Guard service that preceded Mr. Rather’s departure from CBS, Mr. Koppel said the story was “much more correct than incorrect.” Mr. Koppel said that those responsible for the incorrect parts of the report deserved to be chastised and punished.
Ted "hurts". How sad. Does Ted also "hurt" for the people wronged by Dan Rather? NewsBusters takes a little deeper look than Ted does. It's not such a pretty black-and-white picture they see.

Apologies are almost mandatory after reading this. Apologies because one feels bad for not "hurting" along with Ted. Who 'hurts' for Dan Rather? Other than Ted and Katie and Keith. One suspects nobody among the regular Joes paying the freight. One suspects nobody at all outside the cozy, chummy social club that network newsreaders call their own.

First He Parts the Sea, Then He Files Suit

DAN RATHER:
SUPER JOURNALIST or SUPER NARCISSIST?
--You be the Judge.

by Little Baby Ginn & Mondoreb

Does Dan Rather suffer from Narcissistic Personality Disorder? Or is he just insufferable? You be the judge.

Diagnostic criteria for 301.81 Narcissistic Personality Disorder

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

(1) has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

(2) is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

(3) believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

(4) requires excessive admiration

(5) has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

(6) is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

(7) lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

(8) is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

(9) shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

So, do any of these fit Dan Rather? You be the judge.

Whether on Larry King or filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit, Dan Rather wants you to feel sorry for him. He was shunned. His self-esteem was damaged by CBS News. Sounds like Dan was the guilty one here. He was guilty of believing all the swill he dished up, newscast by newscast, throughout his years at CBS.

Dan Rather's Reality Recedes. THE WRATH OF SOUR GRAPES
'Victim of the Rightwing'

by Little Baby Ginn & Mondoreb

From MSNBC:
Sept. 21, 2007 - In parts, it reads like a political thriller, with a cast of “right-wing” hit men out to force a powerful journalist to heel. Or a tale of corporate deceit, in which Machiavellian suits sacrifice their own to cozy up to the president of the United States. Or a behind-the-scenes saga of a network news division assembling a story that could help unseat an incumbent president at the polls.
Yawn. Dan's a victim, as usual. Ho-hum.

One of the saddest things, Dan seems to feel, is that CBS fired him the day after Bush's re-election. Those bastards!
The complaint details horrors no sane meglomaniacal anchorman should have to endure. CBS gave him few assignments! Little staff! Very little air time!
So now CBS must prove that the documents that Dan Rather waved in front of the nation barely a month before the 2004 election were false. And Dan Rather will have to prove that he's not a whiny foot-stomper. This whole affair is unseemly. It's as if the cowardly Lion sued the Wizard of Oz.

Courage, Dan, courage.

TRUE CONFESSIONS:
MAPES & RATHER--

We Were Just Two Young Kids
Burned By The Rightwing Blogs
'The New and Bruising Power'

by Mondoreb
[graphics: RidesAPaleHorse]

Take two crazy kids: one a CBS News producer; the other, a cock-eyed optimist, gamely taking on the world every evening--each living for the other. Then disaster strikes, their whole wacky world comes crashing down and, well--things are just never the same.

Mary Mapes has a strange tale to tell at Huffington Post. She doesn't yet quite understand those strange and awful forces that conspired against her and Gunga Dan.
It has been three years since we aired our much-maligned story on President Bush's National Guard service and reaped a whirlwind of right-wing outrage and talk radio retaliation. That part of the assault on our story was not unexpected. In September 2004, anyone who had the audacity to even ask impertinent questions about the president was certain to be figuratively kicked in the head by the usual suspects.
As per the usual Leftard cant, any MSM minions caught with their fingers in the cookie jar are the victims. Try to swing an election at the last minute with doctored documents?
We didn't mean any harm!
People protest when you smear them on what passes for a national newscast?
We were just foolin'!
Don't have any proof for the junk you're pushing?
We believe in the story!
What was different in our case was the brand new and bruising power of the conservative blogosphere, particularly the extremists among them. They formed a tightly knit community of keyboard assault artists who saw themselves as avenging angels of the right, determined to root out and decimate anything they believed to be disruptive to their worldview.
Anyway, you get the idea. The rest of her article does what burned Leftists do when confronted with tough arguments: call those who disagree names, dance the smear tango, sling scorn. Weep, repeat and rinse. It's enough to discourage even the most avenging of angels.

How can it be that one week the stories are all about "Where, Oh Where is the Right-Wing Answer to KOS?" And the VERY NEXT week, this story alerts the world to "The brand new and bruising power" of the well-oiled, Zionist-financed, Rightwing Lunatic, SuperDuper-Meglo-Blogosphere? It's like Dorothy, in the Wizard of Oz: We had the power in our assault keyboards all the time, we just didn't know it.
Mary Mapes wasn't ripped by some sinister force: she was called out on her attempts to force lies down the throats of people who could challenge her. Her and Rather were no longer gatekeepers. Lies no longer took days, weeks, months to refute; in only minutes and hours the public could be alerted to slanders and falsehoods.
It's been three years and Mary Mapes is no closer to admiting that she had a problem. Neither is Dan Rather. In their eyes, they were just two crazy kids with a news program, a twinkle in their eyes and wild dream of swinging an election in their hearts. Everytime a $70 million lawsuit is filed, everytimes a Mapespiece is written, you have to smile.

You keep settin' 'em up. We'll keep knockin' 'em down.

SUE CBS: DAN WOULD RATHER-One of His Better Decisions

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

"This race between Dick Swett and Bob Smith is hot and tight as a too-small bathing suit on a too-long car ride back from the beach."
--Dan Rather, Election Night 1996

Dan Rather was CBS Evening News anchor for a long time. So long, in fact, that he accumulated a lot of baggage: a lot of bizarre quotes, actions, sayings, and finally, a story which was patently false. It was this last item which finally got him fired from CBS.
Dan Rather filed a $70 million lawsuit Wednesday against CBS, alleging the network made him a "scapegoat" for a discredited story about President Bush's National Guard service.
CNN story.

Rather insists he is the "scapegoat" even though he publicly apologized for the story, which presented documents right before the 2004 election, which later proved to be false. "Scapegoat Dan" was a victim, even though others expressed doubts about the documents' authenticity.

Rather is a victim--even though he insisted, long after the documents proved to be false, "that he believes this story to be true". Rather is a victim, even though he has no evidence to support his beliefs. Rather is a victim--even though he continued to stonewall, long after the documents were proven to be flimsy forgeries.

Dan Rather is a victim. He's a victim of his arrogance, hubris, and condescending attitude towards those with whom he disagreed. He's a victim of a world which shifted underneath his feet while he remained unaware. He's a victim of exploding information, of which he is no longer a gatekeeper.
"Folks, let me point out something to you, because for a lot of people in Washington, they could not be more surprised if Fidel Castro came loping through on the back of a hippopotamus."
--Dan Rather on Election Night, 1998.

DAN RATHER SUES CBS NEWS: $70m Will Help Ease The Pain
"I Coulda Been a Contender"

by Mondoreb & Little Baby Ginn

Former CBS Evening News anchor, Dan Rather, is suing CBS over what he terms their 'intentional mishandling' of the effects of the G.W. Texas Air National Guard story. This seems a strange move, given Rather's earlier statements about CBS.
CBS news is in my rearview mirror now. I have a special place for the people, present and past at CBS news, I worked with. It's filled with really caring, dedicated, working people.[Taken from transcript on Larry King Live.]
Rather than went on to say he was sorry he goofed.
The failure of CBS News to do just that, to properly fully scrutinize the documents and their source, led to our airing the documents when we should not have done so. It was a mistake. CBS News deeply regrets it. Also I want to say personally and directly, I'm sorry.
Death by 1000 Papercuts will have a complete report on this story, the suit and the events leading up to Rather's seemingly self-destructive acts.
