Washington Post, Labor Dept. Rule Changes: When the MSM Attack

Example of Why the MSM is the NME
by Babba Zee
Outraged Spleen of Zion

Allman Brothers ~ Whipping Post

The Washington Post did a total hit piece on this woman.

She's working on a new rule to change the way the government regulates workers' exposure to toxins.

The Post, in the service of the unions and Dems, slammed her on page A1.

U.S. Rushes to Change Workplace Toxin Rules

Political appointees at the Department of Labor are moving with unusual speed to push through in the final months of the Bush administration a rule making it tougher to regulate workers' on-the-job exposure to chemicals and toxins.

The agency did not disclose the proposal, as required, in public notices of regulatory plans that it filed in December and May. Instead, Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's intention to push for the rule first surfaced on July 7, when the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) posted on its Web site that it was reviewing the proposal, identified only by its nine-word title.

You'll note the way the writer paints Misir as doing something out of the ordinary, as though she's trying to sneak through a new rule. Note also that they didn't call her for comment before publication.

The Left is about hit-and-run character assassination, and if you claim to be protecting workers, while also exposing the evils of the Bush administration, of course you're not bound by any rules.

My thinking is that it's not worth spending too much effort writing on the Post's comment board itself, because no one's going to sift through hundreds of posts to read them all.

It's better to get things like up on bigger blogs like Michelle Malkin or Free Republic.

Here are some key points to consider:.

1. Contrary to what the Post wrote, the new rule is not secret. It's a draft being reviewed by OMB, then everyone can comment on it once it's released.

2. No one knows what's in it, so the Post printed assumptions based on Deborah's previous comments about the existing process. The new rule will protect workers, but will make the process transparent, and most significantly, risk-based using science and actual facts, rather than faulty assumptions and emotion.

3. An abstract of the new rule can be found here: Requirements for DOL Agencies’ Assessment of Occupational Health Risks

4. They also smeared Deborah for previously being a White House ethics officer, insinuating that she must be a bad person because no one at the Bush White House is ethical. Every government agency has an ethics adviser to ensure compliance with ethics rules, such as accepting gifts, using government resources, speaking in front of certain groups, separating political activities from government service, etc. She was the screener who ensured compliance with ethics rules, and has never been faulted once for an incorrect ruling or advice; rather, she is ridiculed for her careful and ethical work.

The Left-wing bloggers have ripped her apart on this for the last year, even making fun of her last name (Misir is Hindu), usually writing that she was a White House "ethics adviser."

If you ever wonder why good people shy away from public service out of fear of being personally destroyed, here's another example. With her experience (she was previously an appellate lawyer for the Justice Department, arguing cases in front of Federal appellate courts), she could be in a private firm earning $300,000+/year; instead, she's in the trenches fighting for rational policies in industry, and being personally destroyed by the socialist network.

What Bush Said about Energy Crisis, What Time Said About Bush

A Trip Down Memory Lane
Red Planet Cartoons

Think back seven years to when President Bush delivered the same message that Americans are now demanding of Congress: "Drill, Drill, Drill"?

He was ridiculed and called a greedy oilman by the same cheerleaders that run interference for Barack Obama and congressional Democrats now: the mainstream press.

Red Planet Cartoons has done an invaluable service, both in producing the cartoon above AND reproducing the quote below from a 2001 Time article on energy policy.

In May, convinced the nation was terrified of going California and hungering for a steak-and-eggs energy plan, Bush sold his plan as an aggressive drill-and-dig, anti-regulatory prescription to shoo away the tree-huggers and get the nation — and the economy — humming again.

Two months later, a New York Times/CBS poll released last week found that not only do two-thirds of the nation think Bush and Cheney are too beholden to oil companies, 60 percent think the pair made the whole energy crisis up.

And why not? Energy prices are falling, both in the market and at the pump, and Alan Greenspan, in a post-rate-cut speech Thursday in Chicago, said energy-price inflation was the furthest thing from his mind.
Time magazine: The GOP Try on Jimmy Carter's Sweater June 29m 2001

This is a little reminder: whatever Bush would have done would have made little difference to the lock-step liberals at Time: he would have been wrong and paralyzing his actions would've been called for.

RPC then fast-forwards to 2008:

"…I’ll remind people it took us a while to get into the energy situation we’re in and it’s going to take us a while to get out of it. But one thing is for certain here in the United States, that we can help alleviate shortages by drilling for oil and gas in our own country — something I’ve been advocating ever since I’ve been the President."
--President Bush Discusses 2008 G8 Summit

Red Planet--as well as Bush--could have, at that point, yelled, "GOTCHA!" at all those who have been placing roadblocks in the way of finding and extracting energy in the U.S.

It would have felt good--but it wouldn't bring the price of gasoline down.

Joe Biden: Running On Empty, Promises To Impeach Bush

Speaking before a political forum in New Hampshire, Presidential Candidate Senator Joe Biden told the small audience that he would move to have President Bush impeached if his administration "bombed" Iran without first getting permission from Congress.
"The president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman, I will move to impeach," said Biden, whose words were followed by a raucous applause from the local audience.

Biden said he is in the process of meeting with constitutional law experts to prepare a legal memorandum saying as much and intends to send it to the president. [1]
Meanwhile in Germany:
BERLIN: An Iranian businessman suspected of exporting to Iran material that could be used in military nuclear projects has been arrested in Germany, the weekly Der Spiegel reported.

Police picked up the man identified as Mohsen V, 48, on Tuesday in Frankfurt on an arrest warrant issued by Germany's highest federal court, the magazine said in its Monday edition.

The magazine said the man "illegally delivered" to Iran "American pumps and special Russian cameras" used in nuclear research.

It also said that he had been negotiating "for some time now" with a manufacturer in the south-central German city of Mannheim to deliver certain measuring instruments used in nuclear work.

The suspect's business partners were also arrested, Der Spiegel said. [2]
Biden went on to make more remarks about the Bush-Iran situation, this time referring to Vice President Cheney.
"If you're going to impeach George Bush, you better impeach (Vice President Dick) Cheney first," said Biden, again drawing applause.

Biden said the best deterrent to prevent pre-emptive military action in Iran is to make it clear, even if it is at the end of his final term, action will be taken against Bush to ensure "his legacy will be marred for all time." [1]
Biden could had found other issues to pound the President with but instead chose to flex his Senatorial muscles prancing about promising impeachment. Biden would impeach the President if Bush bombed Iran. No warning to Iran. Just a threat to our President. A threat to tie the President hands over a country that has promised to destroy Israel. What part of "destroy" or demolish" does Biden not understand? Iran most certainly understood Biden's message.

Biden, in his quest to get elected undermined the President by effectly giving Iran the crowbar to pry the lid off Pandora's Box.

Pandering for votes, promising to impeach Bush. Makes one wish Biden would go back to plagiarizing.

Bush Blasts Congress?

More Like BB Gun Rhetoric

by Mondoreb

At CNN's website, the headline read "Bush Blasts Congress". Oh, if only that had been true. What was reported in the story and what the headline screamed were two different thingss. President Bush's press conference sounded pretty tame for a 'blasting'.
From CNN:
President Bush attacked Congress on Wednesday, ripping the new Democratic leadership for failing to achieve much in their first nine months of power.

Bush used his opening statement to list areas where he said "Congress has work to do": health care; security; the budget; education; housing; trade; help for military veterans; law enforcement and the judiciary.

He complained about progress on a number of bills before Congress, including children's health insurance, spending plans and internal surveillance legislation, saying Congress has wasted much of the past nine months.

"Now the clock is winding down. In some key areas, Congress is just getting started," Bush said.

"One of Congress' basic duties is to fund the day-to-day operations of the federal government. Yet Congress has not sent me a single appropriations bill," Bush said.

Bush said congressional Democrats are wasting time with proposed legislation calling the actions of Ottoman Turks against Armenians during World War I "genocide." Video Watch Bush address the Turkey issue »

"With all these pressing responsibilities, one thing Congress should not be doing is sorting out the historical record of the Ottoman Empire," Bush said. "The resolution on the mass killings of Armenians beginning in 1915 is counterproductive. ...
Yeah, Bush's a regular demolition man. "Congress has work to do" is pretty strong language. Contrast with the everyday invective the President endures from Congressional Democrats.

Yahoo News reports the following quotes of Democrats about Blaster Bush.
"Never has it been clearer how detached President Bush is from the priorities of the American people. By vetoing a bipartisan bill to renew the successful Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), President Bush is denying health care to millions of low-income kids in America." — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
"The president has denied basic health coverage to four million children, putting ideology ahead of compassion and common sense." — Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
"This president's priorities are unconscionable." — Presidential candidate Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.
Need more?

Boston.com:
"President Bush needs to quit stonewalling about his White House's connection to corruption, and finally tell us how he's going to reform Washington," Reid said.

And again:
"The president's budget is filled with debt and deception, disconnected from reality, and continues to move America in the wrong direction. This administration has the worst fiscal record in history and this budget does nothing to change that. It clings to the same misguided policies: costly tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthiest, cuts in domestic priorities and more fiscal irresponsibility." -- Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D.

Compared to the opposition, Bush did no blasting yesterday. He was using a rhetorical BB gun. Unless you happen to be reporting from the mainstream media.

STONE COLD FOX:

Vicente Fox to Bush:
"You Have Borders? You Racist"

"I want to say 'Hola Jorge' to the Racist-Gringo-in-Chief!"

Calling Someone a Racist Means Never
Having to Say "Ergo Sum Cogito"

by Little Baby Ginn
--notes by mondoreb
Shout Out to: Dumb Ox Daily News

The story of Vincente Fox and George Bush. At one time they were singing songs from Grease, “we go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong” and skipping rocks together across the muddied waters of the Rio Grande. Evidently those days are over as Vincente has pulled out his Mexican Army Knife and stabbed George in the back.
NEW YORK (AP) - Former Mexican President Vicente Fox said Monday that the United States is letting racism dictate its policies, especially when it comes to immigration.
"The xenophobes, the racists, those who feel they are a superior race ... they are deciding the future of this nation," he said, without naming names, in an interview with The Associated Press.
Go figure. Bush lets an guesstimate of up to 14 million illegals flow unhindered into the United States from Mexico but apparently that’s not good enough for Fox. Now we’re “racists” and “xenophobes.” Most people in the United States have a skewed opinion of Mexico: that the majority of the people there are tired and oppressed; somehow America should welcome them with open arms.

In his recently-released autobiography, Fox whispered sweet nothings into the ears of the U.S. by also calling him a "windshield cowboy" and "the cockiest guy I ever met".

The fact remains that Mexico has a vibrant economy and a bustling, growing middle class. It also has an over-regulated and sometimes-corrupt economy, full of cronyism and hurdles for the ambitious and potential small businessman. Instead of fixing it's problems, the Mexican elites prefer to turn their heads and cough.

A convenient way to get rid of its discontented citizens is to hand them an official Mexican government map of all the really easy spots to slip across the Mexico-United States border. There… problemo solved. If the Norte Americanos squawk, well, just call them, you know, racist.

Repression? Weapons? Violence? Vincente Fox knows no shame. Where else in the world can millions cross the border to receive free medical care, free schooling, drive without a license, no auto insurance, and receive government subsidies for housing? What kind of “repression” is Fox referring to?

Violence? A not-so-small number of illegals who have committed very violent crimes sit in our jails, clog our judicial systems, turn communities into drive-by shooting zones and spawn burglar bars across American windows and doors.

Weapons? Illegal gangbangers sport a nice assortment of the latest.

So just what did Bush do to make his good buddy, Fox, turn on him?

One could put the question to Bush, but it's doubtful there'd be any answer. Bush has remained steadfastly mum on his reasons for flooding the United States with millions of undocumented aliens. We used to refer to them as “illegals”; but no more, this is considered “racist.’

What kind of racism is this: when the U.S. pays for illegals' medical care and yet many U.S. citizens cannot afford medical insurance of their own?

Vincente Fox is a hypocrite: a hack politician, with an apologist and essentially useless agenda, searching for his niche. Fox should focus on fixing the problems in his own country. Calling the United States “racist” and “xenophobic” is doing nothing.

UPDATE: DanRatherGate Part 2

[graphic: RidesAPaleHorse]
by Mondoreb

UPDATE on the Dan Rather Threatened CBS Over Bush National Guard Documents story earlier.

"If the documents are not what we were led to believe, I'd like to break that story," Rather said in an interview last night. "Any time I'm wrong, I want to be right out front and say, 'Folks, this is what went wrong and how it went wrong.' "

--What Rather said in September 2004.

Despite overwhelming evidence at the time that the documents were fake, Rather steadfastly insisted that they were authentic. The only story he could have broken at the time of the quote was the story he was part of--that he was just getting around to admitting that there were problems. The only bigger story would have been if Rather had announced he was joining a 12-step program for dealing with reality.

History Will Judge:

THE REVENGE OF GEORGE W. BUSH

[RAPHgraphic by RidesAPaleHorse]

by Mondoreb

"Revenge is a dish best served cold"
And so, it will be history that best judges the actions of President George W. Bush. Not the Democratic poodles who've been yapping and nipping at his ankles for the last four years. Like poodles, the Reids, Pelosis and Murthas are all bark and little bite. And when confronted, they quickly retreat behind a curtain of aides a-spinning,"clarifications", and angry denials.

This started as an excuse to use the neat RAPH graphic above. But it's also a chance to use this piece, which was sent by ornery elephant. It is by an anonymous author and was circulated by emails the last few weeks and comes via Gunslinger's Journal, a brassy cat-loving chick with a collection of big guns.
"If Bush resigned today, this is what his speech would be.....

Normally, I start these things out by saying "My Fellow Americans." Not doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don't know who more than half of you are anymore. I do know something terrible has happened, and that you're really not fellow Americans any longer.

I'll cut right to the chase here: I quit. Now before anyone gets all in a lather about me quitting to avoid impeachment, or to avoid prosecution or something, let me assure you: There's been no breaking of laws or impeachable offenses in this office.

The reason I'm quitting is simple. I'm fed up with you people. I'm fed up because you have no understanding of what's really going on in the world. Or of what's going on in this once-great nation of ours. And the majority of you are too damned lazy to do your homework and figure it out.

Let's start local. You've been sold a bill of goods by politicians and the news media. Polls show that the majority of you think the economy is in the tank. And that's despite record numbers of homeowners, including record numbers of MINORITY homeowners. And while we're mentioning minorities, I'll point out that minority business ownership is at an all-time high. Our unemployment rate is as low as it ever was during the Clinton administration. I've mentioned all those things before, but it doesn't seem to have sunk in.Despite the shock to our economy of 9/11, the stock market has rebounded to record levels and more Americans than ever are participating in these markets. Meanwhile, all you can do is whine about gas prices, and most of you are too damn stupid to realize that gas prices are high because there's increased demand in other parts of the world, and because a small handful of noisy idiots are more worried about polar bears and beachfront property than your economic security.

We face real threats in the world. Don't give me this "blood for oil" thing. If I were trading blood for oil I would've already seized Iraq's oil fields and let the rest of the country go to hell. And don't give me this 'Bush Lied; People Died' crap either. If I were the liar you morons take me for, I could've easily had chemical weapons planted in Iraq so they could be 'discovered.' Instead, I owned up to the fact that the intelligence was faulty.

Let me remind you that the rest of the world thought Saddam had the goods, same as me. Let me also remind you that regime change in Iraq was official US policy before I came into office. Some guy named 'Clinton' established that policy. Bet you didn't know that, did you?

You idiots need to understand that we face a unique enemy. Back during the cold war, there were two major competing political and economic models squaring off. We won that war, but we did so because fundamentally, the Communists wanted to survive, just as we do. We were simply able to out spend and out-tech them.

That's not the case this time. The soldiers of our new enemy don't care if they survive. In fact, they want to die. That'd be fine, as long as they weren't also committed to taking as many of you with them as they can. But they are. They want to kill you, and the bastards are all over the globe.

You should be grateful that they haven't gotten any more of us here in the United States since September 11. But you're not. That's because you've got no idea how hard a small number of intelligence, military, law enforcement, and homeland security people have worked to make sure of that. When this whole mess started, I warned you that this would be a long and difficult fight. I'm disappointed how many of you people think a long and difficult fight amounts to a single season of 'Survivor.'

Instead, you've grown impatient. You're incapable of seeing things through the long lens of history, the way our enemies do. You think that wars should last a few months, a few years, tops.

Making matters worse, you actively support those who help the enemy. Every time you buy the New York Times, every time you send a donation to a cut-and-run Democrat's political campaign, well, dang it, you might just as well FedEx a grenade launcher to a Jihadist. It amounts to the same thing.

In this day and age, it's easy enough to find the truth. It's all over the Internet. It just isn't on the pages of the New York Times or on NBC News. But even if it were, I doubt you'd be any smarter. Most of you would rather watch American Idol.

I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, even if you're too stupid to leave a city that's below sea level and has a hurricane approaching.

I could say more about your insane belief that government, not your own wallet, is where the money comes from. But I've come to the conclusion that were I to do so, it would sail right over your heads.

So I quit. I'm going back to Crawford. I've got an energy-efficient house down there (Al Gore could only dream) and the capability to be fully self-sufficient. No one ever heard of Crawford before I got elected, and as soon as I'm done here pretty much no one will ever hear of it again. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to die of old age before the last pillars of America fall.

Oh, and by the way, Cheney's quitting too. That means Pelosi is your new President. You asked for it. Watch what she does carefully, because I still have a glimmer of hope that there are just enough of you remaining who are smart enough to turn this thing around in 2008.

So that's it. God bless what's left of America. Some of you know what I mean. The rest of you, kiss off."
We're an impatient nation. When 9-11 occurred, there were a few malcontents who publicly rejoiced and were quickly slapped around by an angry and grieving nation. But then more important things came along to take our minds off of the 3000 murdered: Paris, Britney and YouTube.

Six years afterwards and the Left has tried to turn 'President Bush' into a swear word; a little like the label "liberal", from which they so recently ran. They're all "Progressives" now. They're no more civil nor any more convincing in their invective.

Just like the Democrats at the beginning of this story, they're all-negative, all-the-time. Just another bunch of politicians trying to get their hands on the levers of power; this time riding on the backs of TheDailyKOS, the Mainstream Media and a lot of kids signed on to Mom's computer. History will judge George W. Bush. History will also judge his opponents.

PAPERCUTS EXCLUSIVE!:

Bill Richardson: "I Will Not Live in Fear"
BUSH JUST AS BAD AHMADINEJAD

by Mondoreb

Democrat Presidential candidate Bill Richardson has a message for the people he's appealing to: American President George Bush is no better than Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Richardson is seemingly reaching out to the crew at TheDailyKOS.

An online poll conducted this week at the "new center of the Democratic Party"'s website was revealing: In an election matchup between Bush and Ahmadinejad, Bush narrowly squeaked out a 52-45% win. Little Green Footballs captured a screen shot of the poll. The Left's favorite response to any discovery of how they really think is "Satire!" No on remembered it this time.

This did not go undetected by Democrats. The following is a letter sent out by Richardson's campaign this morning.

Dear (my name),

Yesterday, the Presidents of Iran and of the United States both addressed the United Nations.

In his speech, Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, confirmed what we already knew: he is a demagogue and a despot.

And in his own speech, our President, George W. Bush, confirmed something else we already knew: he is a fearmonger, whose unwillingness to use diplomacy to confront our enemies has made America less safe.

Just like before their reckless invasion of Iraq, President Bush and Vice President Cheney have been rattling sabers about Iran's nuclear program and about how all options are on the table in regard to military force. It's "axis of evil" all over again!

This kind of rhetoric does not help America's strategic interests or improve the stability of that troubled region.
The letter then makes an appeal for a $50 donation.

Like a Christmas present, the morning mail many times brings surprises. Some cause delight and some cause one to roll their eyes. The letter in question causes one to close thier eyes, pondering the curious position of the Democrat Party on foreign affairs. By kowtowing to the unhinged few who blog among them, Democrats are forcing a debate next year in which are they are taking an unsettling position. According to this letter, that position seems to be:
George Bush is no better than a man who has vowed to destroy the United States.

THE GOLDILOCKS WAR

by Little Baby Ginn

President Bush has my sincerest sympathies on the matter of the War On Terror. I read the various comments by the 101st Keyboard Brigades how the war is “lost” because we failed to be too “ruthless.” How the war was fought with Political Correctness instead of the goal to “win.”

Then there is the other side, the ones who believe we need to fight a “kinder, gentler” war. One where we win the “hearts and minds.” So we drop soccer balls from planes and have them thrown back in our face because they have on them the flags of the world including Saudi Arabia. “How insulting, we cannot kick a graphic of the Saudi flag!”

Two weeks after we went in after Sadaam, Ted Kennedy called the Iraq War a “quagmire.” John Kerry, during his bid for the Dem Presidency, claimed we needed forty thousand more troops.

Now the support from the Right Wing has eroded for President Bush. “We weren’t ruthless enough,” and “we should have bombed the crap out of them” or "why doesn’t Bush bomb Iran?"

The Other America thinks we are “fascist oppressors” while the America to the Right thinks we’re losing the War On Terror because Bush hasn’t done nearly enough.

Here is what I think. Among the whole world, who has stood up against the terrorists? It’s Bush. He may not have waged the best war but he stood alone and spoke out against those who declared war on us and slaughtered over three thousand of our men, women, and children one day in September, 2001.

Who else has stood up and declared Islamists as our enemy? Who else has vowed to fight them while other countries slink away?

Who has had to endure the cries of thuggery and fascism while others cry he is weak and ineffectual against those who wish to dominate us? This is not a “McDonald’s Fast Food War” where if we don’t win in 15 minutes it’s over.

This is a war that will take a massive amount of resolve. It’s not for the weak nor defeatists.

Like Goldilocks,to some this war is either too hot or too cold. But the fact remains, we are in a war that will determine whether our children and grandchildren will live in fear of those who hate us because we are free.
