John Edwards Scandal: DailyKOS Bans Stranahan for Writing About Edwards

Form Reversion at DailyKOS

Same Old KOSdog, No New Progressive Tricks

How are you going to keep the KOSsacks down on the farm, once they've seen the John Edwards Love Child Scandal?

DBKP praised whack-left website, DailyKOS, on Friday [John Edwards Scandal: DailyKOS Readers Now Know; Others Remain In the Dark for writer/video producer] for letting their readers in on the John Edwards Scandal, via Lee Stranahan's four KOS diary posts.

DailyKOS readers are free to now debate the facts of the case since Stranahan started posting on the scandal. They’ve been given that right by a writer who reported on a story that the Mainstream Media not only refused to investigate, but refused to report on others who had.

Guess we spoke too soon. The progressive KOS-aratchiks pulled the plug on Stranahan's diary the day after our story came out. He is now persona non grata at the People's Republic of KOS.

In a title worthy of a '50s pulp [I've Been banned from DailyKOS because of John Edwards], Stranahan--at his own blog, Stranahan dot com--writes:

About a week ago, I posted a piece on the Huffington Post called Say It Ain’t So, John. I didn’t think it would have much more impact than my usual posts…maybe a dozen comments or so, a couple of people linking to it. I cross posted on DailyKos, which is probably the best known and biggest progressive blog. I’ve been posting at Kos for a long time. As more news about Edwards has come out, I followed up with more posts which were also the subject of a large number of comments. All of them looked at the Edwards situation from my point of view; that is, a liberal who is concerned about the implications this story may have in November.

Now I’m banned. I can’t write about ANYTHING at Kos. Can’t comment, can’t post a non-Edwards piece. Nothing.

The KOS assault on free speech, while sad is expected. But, watching the veil slowly lift from Stranahan's eyes on how proud progressives behave when confronted with unpleasant speech made us think of the finale of Old Yeller.

"I’m not sure if the DailyKos is going to take down my writing and make me a complete un-person there", wonders Stranahan.

At DailyKOS--as in another progressive paradise, the U.S.S.R.--speech is only free if you toe the party line.

Otherwise, there's a price to pay for your speech. Apparently, Stranahan's diaries were too unpleasant for DailyKOS strongman, Markos Moulitsas, whose bill for Stranahan's speech came due Saturday.

Noel Sheppard, at NewsBusters, comments [Daily Kos Bans Blogger For Writing About Edwards Scandal]:

As there are always two sides to these kinds of stories, I look forward to receiving some nasty e-mail messages from Markos Moulitsas telling me how I've completely misinterpreted Stranahan's excommunication. Stay tuned.

We're waiting too, Comrade Markos.

John Edwards Affair: Mainstream Press Still Acting as Gatekeepers

Lee Stranahan Gets it Right
"Something to hide"
Most Americans Kept in the Dark by MSM Gatekeepers

Lee Stranahan, at DailyKOS [Irrefutable Proof Of The John Edwards Scandal] does a good job of breaking the news to the left that the John Edwards scandal is real.

On Wednesday, after his speech to the AARP, John Edwards ducked out a side entrance in order to avoid reporter's questions.

That's a fact. It's well sourced -- a dozen reporters were there. Nobody is disputing it. And to anyone covering the story, it's hugely significant for two reasons; it's damning on it's own and it shows a pattern of behavior that gives credence to the National Enquirers reporting.

First point - Edwards is acting how people act when they are hiding something.

Think like a journalist, not a John Edwards supporter. Why do politicians avoid reporters, not issue statements, and duck an issue that multiple news outlets are running down? The answer is - always, in every case - because they have something to hide.

Sadly--for those who wish that politicians, both left and right, would act in the better interests of the country, instead of themselves--the scandal is not about a "right wing conspiracy" or even an evil plot of the Clintons. It's not even about a politician who cheated on his cancer-stricken wife while he dragged her onto the campaign trail in search of the brass ring of the presidency.

To DBKP, it's about the utter and abject failure of the traditional press.

It's not a failure to investigate, although that occurred (and is occurring as I write this).

It's a failure by MSM editors and gatekeepers to report knowledge to their "subjects". Readers of Stranahans' KOS diary know about the affair. They may discuss it, vehemently object to the recording of it by Stranahan at KOS or heartily agree that Edwards is a slimy specimen of humanity.

BUT, at least the readers of KOS can debate these points.

For those that are condemned to get their information through the NY Times, CNN or the 3 network newscasts, they don't even get the opportunity to decide for themselves: that decision was taken away by a mainstream press that made their decision for them.

Even though there was plenty of "curious coincidences" back in December, when the National Enquirer released their second story on the Edwards affair [JOHN EDWARDS LOVE CHILD SCANDAL!], not one reporter had the balls to ask Edwards about it.

Now, seven months later, there are some who supported John Edwards who feel blind-sided by the news that a now-grudging MSM is forced to report. That wouldn't have happened if just one MSM reporter had asked Edwards back in December--as DBKP kept imploring at the time--"Do you deny that you've been in telephone contact with Rielle Hunter since she found out that she was pregnant?"

We'll assume for a moment that the MSM has no liberal bias. The fact that most people who consume MSM news are just now finding this out should be alarming. Readers of the NY Times and viewers of CNN--as well as millions others--are still clueless about John Edwards, Rielle Hunter and their love child.

They remain in the dark to the elaborate cover-up by the Edwards campaign as well.

The cover-up by the traditional press will be the real story here. MSM apologists are already scrambling for excuses. We looked at how the KC Star let their readers in on the new yesterday [John Edwards Scandal: KC Writer Cites “Veiled Threats”, Denials as Likely
].

KC Star writer, Aaron Barnhart, explained it all away as deference to "EE"; as in, "Elizabeth Edwards is the real reason this story hasn't gained traction until now." Barnhart also attributes non-coverage to "vigorous denials" and "veiled threats" to toss the curious off the Edwards press bus.

The Enquirer reported in their latest print edition that:

Elizabeth Edwards was in Chicago raising cancer awareness with Lance Armstrong on the night the ENQUIRER caught her husband visiting Rielle Hunter visiting their love child [at the Beverly Hilton].

Remember the phrase "gained traction": you'll likely hear it a lot. It's MSMspeak for "failure to inform our readers/viewers".

Note to John McCain and Barack Obama: If a reporter asks about--or is thinking about asking--unpleasantness, tell them they may have their access cut off. Or, have your staff issue a "vigorous denial". That ought to fix the problem--with the major networks and the NY Times, Newsweek and Time magazine, anyway.

Back in December, DBKP looked at Bob Schieffer, of CBS's Face the Nation, and his "two-denial rule". [The Edwards Scandal, The Press, The Enquirer and the Blogosphere]

Well, you know I saw that this morning. I believe that — I believe that’s a story that we will be avoiding, because it appears to me that there’s absolutely nothing to it. I’m told that another — a man says that the child is his. I’m told that the woman who seems to be pregnant says it’s not his. So I guess — I guess we’re going to pass on that. Unless you come up with some new information on this, Don.
–- Schieffer, when asked about the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter story On the Don Imus show

What DBKP said then still applies:

A presidential candidate and his campaign’s mysterious video: one that was produced with the high hopes of making the candidate better-known, only to have that hope fulfilled when it disappeared from public view.

That doesn’t excite Bob Schieffer.

A presidential candidate who isn’t asked by the press if he denies being in phone contact with his alleged mistress since she discovered she’s pregnant. Indeed, the Mainstream press didn’t go postal: they went Emily Post-al, as in, “let’s not make any waves, that’s not polite; might get us thrown out of the candidate’s press tent.”

That doesn’t excite Bob Schieffer.

A presidential candidate’s alleged mistress moving close to campaign headquarters, driving around in a BMW owned by the campaign’s former Director of Operations, living in a house owned by the campaign’s backer, having her bills and living expenses paid for–well, who is paying them?

Doesn’t matter.

That wouldn’t likely excite Bob Schieffer, either.

“I said I need back-up!! NOW!!
I got Bob Schieffer’s sense of curiosity here!”

We concluded in December, "Good thing Deep Throat had the good sense not to leak to the Enquirer. Bob Schieffer would have passed on that one."

MSM apologists are pointing out that "Edwards has denied the story".

NO, he hasn't--at least, since the December allegations from the Enquirer were published.

When the allegations in the October National Enquirer story were published [PRESIDENTIAL CHEATING SCANDAL! ALLEGED AFFAIR COULD WRECK JOHN EDWARDS' CAMPAIGN BID], Edwards denied them.

But, then, he could--at that point.

The Enquirer's allegations were of the general nature at that point: no mistress was named, just some unnamed sources. Which were what the New York Times depended on in its John McCain-Vicki Iseman pseudo-scandal just a few months later.

Even in October, Edwards' denial was one part denial, three parts deflection. Trial lawyer that he is, he deflected, dissembled and attacked. As the LA Times blogs reported (after a row over reporting it at all) [BREAKING NEWS: John Edwards denies affair with campaign worker] :

"The story is false. It's completely untrue, ridiculous." He [Edwards] said the story was "made-up."

"I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years," Edwards added, about his wife Elizabeth, who is suffering from incurable cancer, "and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."

That was the last denial that John Edwards was forced to make: not one MSM reporter questioned him about the affair and cover-up until July--even after the Enquirer dug up quite a treasure trove of information about the curious arrangements of a very-pregnant Rielle Hunter in December.

So, to all those wielding the excuse, "We didn't cover it because he had already denied it": he never had to deny it after October, after a mound of compelling facts uncovered by the Enquirer changed from a shadowy gossip item about a "former campaign worker" into news about Rielle Hunter and a man who was running for president of the United States.

DailyKOS readers are free to now debate the facts of the case since Stranahan started posting on the scandal. They've been given that right by a writer who reported on a story that the Mainstream Media not only refused to investigate, but refused to report on others who had.

DBKP, Lee Stranahan and all who've commented on this story from the beginning, presented the facts and let their readers connect their own dots; or, if any there were any dots that needed connecting.

Prediction: when the story is fully reported in the traditional media, there will be some who do their own searching for more information. These people will be astonished that this story underwent a healthy debate on the Internet months before they were let in on it.

Many of these people will choose to no longer trust their big-city daily newspapers, CNN, CBS News, ABC, MSNBC, Time, Newsweek or NBC News as a news source.

They will join a growing exodus: they will become "former customers", so to speak, of the major news organizations.

Which will contribute further to falling stock prices, declining viewership/circulation and ad revenues of the dinosaur press: those who still believe they can act as information gatekeepers for the rest of us.

Dailykos' Markos: Newsweek Likes Me!

From Newsweek:

New York -- Markos Moulitsas, the founder and publisher of dailykos.com, will become a Newsweek contributor for the 2008 presidential campaign, offering occasional opinion pieces to the pages of the magazine and to Newsweek.com.

"We have always sought to represent a diversity of views in Newsweek, and we think Markos will be a great part of that tradition," said Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham. "He will give our readers in print and online a unique perspective. As always, our job is to create the most energetic and illuminating magazine possible, and Markos will help us do that as the campaign unfolds."

Markos posted this blurb from Newsweek on his blog, DailyKos.com, along with this little shot across the bow to his conservative adversaries:

Yeah, there's a lot of heads exploding in wingnutlandia today over this bit of news. But Newsweek is "balancing" me out with someone that should make heads on our side explode. Announcement on that name is still a couple of days off.

"Heads exploding in wingnutlandia" is yet another "Liberal Urban Legend" but it does make for good imagery. Markos' track record in backing candidates is a pretty dismal one. None of the over a dozen politicians Markos has backed in prior elections on Dailykos has been elected.

The Moulitsas-anointed Ned Lamont beat out Lieberman in the primaries. To some in the MSM this kind of track record has poll-vaulted Markos to political Kingpin status.

Of course, when it counted, Lamont suffered the fate of all those blessed by Moulitsas: he lost.

The rest of us just shake our heads and wonder how a guy who consistently backs losers is considered an "expert."

Pick 'Em

The Nazi Daily Double

by Little Baby Ginn & Mondoreb

Seems Hitler's a popular guy. Who said the following?
"If Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's famous propaganda minister, were alive today, he would be demanding extensive compensation from the media. Indeed, why not? This media is using his propaganda methods of premeditated and systematic lies, implementing them in toto without mentioning the inventor."
Today's mainstream media(MSM) is effectively being used in a way comparable to Hitler's propaganda machine. Views opposing the "Furor" are only allowed in a measure sufficient to present an artificial "fair and balanced" version of the news, in an attempt to keep "followers" from forming opinions that oppose the "Furur".
It hasn't been that long ago, when the Christian right found a way to justify killing millions of Jews, in Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler. They rounded them up, put many of them on trains and shipped them to Gas chambers or Furnaces or both, located away from towns, to keep the stench away from Nazi population centers.
"Is this logic different from the rationale behind the Nazi propaganda led by Joseph Goebbels, with its motto, 'Lie and lie again, and keep lying, until something sticks to the minds of the masses or until you, yourself, come to believe it!?'
The first and last quotes are from the host of the Al-Jazeera TV talk show "Opposite Direction," Dr. Faisal Al-Qassim, reported in the Syrian media via MEMRI

The second and third are from a fantasy piece "Liberals: The Jews of the 21st Century "by Mike Taylor at TheDailyKOS

Syrian mouthpieces and DailyKOS bloggers: it's hard to tell the players without a scorecard.

At LGF: Leftard Poll Results
Undercover Lizard Uncovers KOSpit!

45% WOULD VOTE FOR AHMADINEJAD! Mad Iranian Feels Out Clinton for VP!

[pictured above: Undercover Lizard, Kilgore Trout, reports back to diabolical Half-Crazed LGF Lizardoid Honcho, Charles Johnson.]
by Mondoreb

Dazed but unfazed, undercover Lizardoid, Killgore Trout reported back to Little Green Footballs with shocking Leftard poll results. 45% of the DailyKOS denizens would vote for former Iranian hostage-taker, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, for U.S. President.
A Daily Kos diarist has put up a poll asking the question, Daily Kos: Who would you rather have lead, Bush or Ahmadinejad?

Bush is actually ahead. But not by much.
The Hillary Clinton campaign immediately denied rumors that Ahmadinejad had been leading the beleaguered Bush before HRC operatives had rigged the voting.

DailyKOS FLASH! Conservatives a "Bad Fit" for the Internet
Republicans Keep Drooling on Keyboards

RIGHT WING HORDES SEEN IN BOSTON

[above: graphix by Little Baby Ginn]
by Mondoreb

After reading the latest for what passes as hard-hitting analysis over at DailyKOS, I'm forced to conclude: If the world were made up of timepieces, KOS would be the cuckoo clock. The KOSpiece is titled"Republican Cites Anonymous Blog Comment in Attack". The story begins by featuring a lurid account of Republican skullduggery. It continues with a quote for posterity.
By turning anonymous blog comments into objective, verifiable fact, republicans demonstrate again that they are amoral, and at war with reality.
Years from now, historians will cite this post as proof that when the mentally ill were deinstitutionalized during the 1980s, they later became employed as bloggers at DailyKOS. The article continues in a manner that reminds one of those sad people seen bitterly complaining and swatting at non-existent insects.
The fact that Simmons does not hate illegal immigrants as much as Hugo, is not legitimate. But it does go to the republican habit of using hate against unpopular minority groups to unite their base and thus win elections.
Using the Moonbat-English Dictionary, 5th Edition, the above quote was decoded. The English translation seems to be, "Some Republicans object to enforcement of the law". Ah, to live in a reality-based community! Where words like "hate" and "reality" have altogether different meanings than normally supposed. The daydream continued.
Look at the recent right-wing fad as of late to trash the blogosphere as being made up of left-wing extremists (such as saying that Jim Webb was "not a Daily Kos Democrat"). The reason is that the right is losing the war for control of the blogosphere. They were unchallenged before, with domination of talk radio and cable news. Now that we have a solid foothold in cable news (with Keith Olbermann) and control over the blogosphere, they are threatened.
One feels horribly out of touch to be ignorant of the latest fads. The author, politicaljunkie2008, then takes time out of his busy day being one of only three known Keith Olbermann viewers to wind up with a bang.
They have lost the war for the blogosphere, so they want to destroy what they can't control. Talk radio is a natural fit to the right wing mind, with its top-down structure and domination by a couple of people. The blogosphere is a natural fit to progressives, and not to conservatives. This is because the structure is bottom-up, and thus gives an equal voice to anyone, even unpopular and dissenting views. The right wont[sic] end its war on the blogosphere until they have destroyed it. We have to realize this.
This article should hearten conservatives everywhere. Despite predictions of the Republicans' impending doom, a strange and deadly power resides in them. Within a three-day period, the Right learned of evil 'right wing hitmen' who dogged Dan Rather; of the "assault keyboardists" battering poor Mary Mapes into submission; and now, politcaljunkie2008 fears the very "destruction of the blogosphere".

The Left feels real fear: it's evident in their furtive glances; their moist, sweaty palms. They see the vision unfolding before them as legions of right wing hitmen deploy, midnight assault keyboardist kick down doors and conservative madmen by the thousands plot the destruction of the blogosphere.

Politicaljunkie2008, DailyKOS and the entire left are afraid. And they have good reason for their fear. It can't be stopped. It can't be controlled. It's coming. And it's coming for Leftards wherever they live.

The lumbering, mindless, drooling hordes of Republicans are coming for you. You and your little tinfoil hat.

Blogosphere: WHERE'S THE RIGHTWING KOS?

by MONDOREB

A lot of buzz out there about the lack of an equivilent to "DailyKOS".
My opinion: all hand-wringing and diaper-wetting aside, I'm not sure what benefit a conservative internet rag full of vitriol and "f**k you"s would bring to the Right.

Here's an idea: dress up LGF's Charles Johnson in a military uniform and leak stories about how he'd like to ride his bike for the CIA in Iraq and you might be onto something.

Then, take Little Green Footballs, subtract the wit, stir in a bushel of profanity, don't monitor the comments and substitute foot-stomping tantrums for facts and sources.

Finally, induce a financial catastrophe that hits the members of LGF's Lizard Nation so that all the posters lose their jobs, forcing them to move into their parent's suburban basement: Voila! You'd have a rightwing version of DailyKOS.

Among those publications weighing in this week on the subject are:
"The Lopsided Netroots" by Dean Barnett in The New Republic
"The Least Mysterious Question in the Universe" by David Weigel in Reason
"Why Isn't There a Conservative Daily KOS?" by Matthew Sheffield and Noel Sheppard at News Busters.com

All three articles are long on calm and reason and short on hysteria. And that fact right there is one reason there's not a lot of gnashing of teeth on the Right about the lack of a "conservative DailyKOS."
