Say what you will, Debbie Schlussel is interesting.

Last week, the motor behind debbieschlussel.com posted an interesting article about the Selective Service registration of Barack Obama. Multiple screenshots--complete with letters A-H highlighting areas that raised questions--make the provocative post must-reading for anyone who has wondered about the squeaky-clean, scrubbed Obama narrative.

In our opinion, Schlussel gets some things right, while other items are a bit less clear. One claim Schlussel makes that falls into the "dubious" category: Obama signed his name with a peace sign. Our view is that this is an overly-dramatic interpretation; interested readers can visit Schlussel's site, examine the BHO signature and make their own judgment.

DBKP attempted to contact Schlussel, but got no response.

Did President-elect Barack Hussein Obama commit a federal crime in September of this year? Or did he never actually register and, instead, did friends of his in the Chicago federal records center, which maintains the official copy of his alleged Selective Service registration commit the crime for him?

It's either one or the other, as indicated by the release of Barack Obama's official Selective Service registration for the draft. A friend of mine, who is a retired federal agent, spent almost a year trying to obtain this document through a Freedom of Information Act request, and, after much stonewalling, finally received it and released it to me.

Breitbart TV's B-Cast did an informative show on the subject, interviewing Schussel, who walked viewers through the document and the questions about its authenticity.

Though the video is 30 minutes, it's well worth watching for those who are interested in our next Commander-in-Chief's past. Many pieces of the Obama puzzle are, and have been, hidden from public view--including birth, medical, college and university records.

During the campaign, the Mainstream Media exhibited a singular lack of curiosity about their Fab Fave candidate and his past, preferring instead to quote from Obama's two memoirs or the campaign's canned answers.

Inquires about actual records--which would've helped shed light on Obama's background--was a subject that, like the John Edwards' Scandal--remained off-limits in the polite MSM conversations that passed for election news.

Schlussel's document source--a retired federal employee--does enough detective work to excite interest in normally-inquisitive reporters. Normally-inquisitive reporters are in short supply in the MSM, however, when the subject turns to favored presidential candidates.

In a later update to Schlussel's original post, she provides some information on her source. Schlussel's source is no pajamas-clad basement dweller:

The recently retired federal agent has requested that I disclose his identity so that there is no question as to the source of the information.

His name is Stephen Coffman. He retired last year from the position of the Resident Agent in Charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Galveston, Texas office. He has over 32 years of government service and has held a Secret or higher security clearance for the majority of those years.

He filed the FOIA with Selective Service and has the original letter and the attachments. He first notified the Selective Service of his findings and they ignored the questions.

About the image at Schlussel's site: it was noted that the date stamped on the form provided by Selective Service and the date on the signature line were different. The differing dates between when the SSR form was signed and the date stamped on the form?

It could be just an honest mistake.

Several other parts of the document are not so easily explained away, particularly the Document Location Number (DLN) on the form.

Obama supporters have claimed that the documents are fake--what else would they say?--but Schlussel has updated her post today with a copy of the letter that Coffman received from the Selective Service Administration, along with the document.

Another Honest Mistake?

Back in September 2007, Newsbusters' Tom Blumer made a quick fact check on another of Obama's Selective Service registration claims. From O-Busted: Selective Service Requirement Did Not Exist When Obama Says He Registered:

In his hilariously titled post ("Mighta Joined If He Coulda Capped Some Cong") on Barack Obama's interview in a barn this morning (not kidding) on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, fellow NewsBuster Mark Finkelstein reported on Obama's answer to a viewer's question about whether he ever considered military service. You can read Mark's post for his overall thoughts, but I want to focus on something the Illinois senator said that several commenters at the post took exception to:

You know, I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. .... But keep in mind: I graduated in 1979.

There are only two "little" problems:

1. Selective Service Registration was not possible in 1979.
2. Bob Owens at Pajamas Media noted that Obama registered with the Selective Service with an effective date of September 4, 1980.

Could be another example of another honest mistake.

At least Selective Service has provided some documentation. Previously--at least in February 2008--there was no Selective Service number for Barack Obama at the Selective Service website.

President Bush released his Selective Service Registration Number, why won't Senator Obama?

His campaign just sidesteps the issues as to whether he did register.

The Selective Service, while not releasing his number, claim that the reason you get "No Record Found" when you check for his registation on their website (www.sss.gov ) is because of a dataprocessing error. It seems out of the millions and millions of records, Senator Obama's is the only one that does not show up!

Perhaps, it was just another honest mistake.

One More Honest Mistake?

Bob Owens at Pajamas Media addressed Internet chatter about the Obama Selective Service issue in August 2008, "Did Obama Actually Register for Selective Service?". It should be noted that Owens wrote his piece without benefit of the document provided by Schlussel's source.

It is a rumor that the Obama campaign has chosen to ignore despite numerous requests, and it is a rumor that even Snopes couldn’t seem to confirm or deny definitively.

After contacting the Selective Service System for an answer several times since late June, Pajamas Media obtained official confirmation from the Selective Service System via email that Barack Obama did indeed register for the Selective Service as required by law, and is eligible to run for the presidency.

Mr. Owens,

Barack Hussein Obama registered at a post office in Hawaii. The effective registration date was September 4, 1980.

His registration number is 61-1125539-1.

While we agree with most of what Owens usually writes, he seems to belong to a subset of bloggers who ascribe all questions concerning the murkiness surrounding Obama's documentation as "rumor-mongers" or "conspiracy theorists".



Prior to September 2008, we included ourselves in this subset. However, the increasing questions about most things in the past of Barack Obama have moved us into another group: the "Missouri-minded".

As in, "Show me".

It seems to us that one, two, possibly three questions concerning Obama records and documents might be given a pass.

But, everything?

When dealing with Obama's background, an incredible pattern of coincidences--which we don't believe--occurs. Whatever the document, whatever the question: the Obama campaign ignored it--until the issue became troublesome.

Then, they would release only enough of an answer to satisfy the very few in the MSM who'd had the brass to ask. Supporters and apologists would then rush in to condemn anyone who wanted a follow-up answer.

Obama's campaign started a website to combat rumors: fightthesmears.com. The only problem, it didn't. Picking and choosing mostly straw-men, the website was a brilliant concept: label inconvenient information that didn't fit the campaign/media narrative about the candidate as "smears".

The Obama campaign used its Internet site to discredit other Internet sites with which it disagreed. Any story that threatened to gain traction was branded a "smear" and relegated to fightthesmears.com, where Obama's thin resume/record was repackaged as Internet fact, wrapped with a bow of indignation.

Harkening back to the 1990s, it's remembered that "conspiracy theorist" was applied to those publications (notably American Spectator) which uncovered uncomfortable questions concerning Bill and Hillary Clinton's past.

When Hillary Clinton ran for the Democratic nomination for presidency, a now pro-Obama MSM--which derided those with questions over Hillary's cattle futures and other bits and pieces from Arkansas when they mattered--suddenly ran many of those stories 10-15 years after the fact.

Barack Obama and his apologists apparently remember that particular lesson very well: like the 1990s Clintons, persistent questions about the sanitized version of Obama only come from "conspiracy theorists".

Three days before Election Day 2008 and much of Barack Obama's past remains shrouded in secrecy. The same press that can tell you how much Sarah Palin's shoes cost can't seem to muster any curiosity over large gaps in the Obama narrative.

The remaining customers of the LA Times have been treated to the spectacle of the Times making news by not reporting news--a familiar position for the paper.

In July, even though John Edwards was caught at the Beverly Hilton visiting his mistress by reporters from the National Enquirer--and it was confirmed a few days later by Fox News--the LA Times instructed its reporters NOT to write about it on their blogs. So, readers of the LA Times are used to being kept in the dark. The Obama-Khalidi video is just the latest instance of this happening.

The Missing Obama Records:
Did Obama Attend Columbia?



An interesting article appeared yesterday at Unqualified Reservations, "Did Barack Obama Go to Columbia?".

Interesting because it speculates that the reason the Obama campaign has not released his Columbia records is--that Barack Obama didn't really attend Columbia.

Far-fetched?

Perhaps, but not as far-fetched as a candidate getting this far in the political process without the press issuing its normal calls to see records.

My question is: was Barack Obama ever a student at Columbia? Because here's how one scurrilous compendium of racist smears puts it:
Obama graduated from Columbia College in 1983, and after spending a year in New York, moved to Chicago.

Wayne Allyn Root says, "I don't know a single person at Columbia that knows him, and they all know me. I don't have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever! ... Nobody recalls him. I'm not exaggerating, I'm not kidding.

Questioner: Were you the exact same class?

Root: Class of '83 political science, pre-law Columbia University. You don't get more exact than that. Never met him in my life, don't know anyone who ever met him. At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, 20th reunion, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me. No one ever heard of Barack! Who was he, and five years ago, nobody even knew who he was... the guy who writes the class notes, who's kind of the, as we say in New York, the macha who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him. Is that not strange? It's very strange...

When asked about his undergraduate training at Columbia University, The New Times states that Obama "declined repeated requests to talk about his New York years, release his Columbia transcript or identify even a single fellow student, co-worker, roommate or friend from those years."

Many of his classmates don't remember Obama. He's not in the yearbook. Columbia couldn't find a picture of him at school.

What can be said with some certainty is that Mr. Obama lived off campus while at Columbia in 1981-83 and made few friends. Fox News contacted some 400 of his classmates and found no one who remembered him.

As the author, Mencius Moldbug, observes: "What is the chance that a budding young politician of undeniable talent and promise spends his junior and senior years at Columbia, and no one remembers him? What is the chance that my right ass cheek, through spontaneous quantum vibration, suddenly transmutes into a hemisphere of polished gold? Don't you feel these probabilities are at least roughly comparable?"

The normal minions of the Obama campaign descended upon the blog, filling the comments section with their usual spammery. But, this article points to one inescapable fact.

If Obama released his Columbia records, such speculation--well-reasoned as it is--simply would not be written. Moldbug could be writing about Obama's re-distributionary policies.

Moldbug asks a few questions that would have been answered already--if Barack Obama had released his Columbia records.

Barack or Barry - note that he is still Barry while at Occidental; at the next place we know he existed, Harvard Law, he has become Barack - spends two years at Columbia. He presumably receives two years worth of college credits. By taking two years worth of college courses.

Furthermore, in every other period of his life, he is known as the gregarious and charismatic young man he obviously was. Nor can his looks be described as ordinary. Nor is even his name ordinary. This man is a future president. And no one remembers him? No one?

The Columbia records are part of a pattern:

• no medical records released to the press;
• no Occidental records released to the press;
• no Harvard University records released to the press;
• no Columbia records released to the press;
• the fight to gain access to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records;
• no original birth certificate released to the press

There's also another pattern: the press is perfectly satisfied to be kept in the dark. In 2004, CBS News had such a burning desire to see George Bush's service records, they foisted forged documents onto their viewers.

Perhaps that explains why CBS News has exhibited no curiosity to see the unreleased Obama records?

Barack Obama certainly is a candidate for change. Consider:

• Barack Obama is the first candidate to opt out of public financing--after he promised on national TV he would not--since public financing started in 1976. That's quite a change.
  
• Barack Obama has not released his college, university or medical records. Obama has released more books (2) than he has records (0). That's also quite a charge.
  
• Barack Obama showed up in Joe the Plumber's neighborhood; Joe asked Obama a question and Obama's answer reveals an unpleasant fact: Obama wants to "spread (Joe's) wealth around". Obama partisans use state computers to look into Joe's supposedly private records and then leak the info to a lapdog press that publishes and broadcasts it. That's certainly a change.
  
• A Democrat attorney has to file suit in an attempt to see Barack Obama's birth certificate. The suit was dismissed over the issue of "standing". But the Obama legal team fought the suit instead of showing Obama's original birth certificate.

That's a lot of change.

It would be easy enough to dispel the speculation surrounding the past that shrouds Barack Obama: Obama could release his records from Columbia.

And Occidental College.

And Harvard University.

And his medical records.

And his original birth certificate.

But he won't--and the press won't ask him.

Absent any of these records--which Obama has refused to release--speculation is not only correct, it's to be expected.

Obama has chosen to be a "fill-in-the-blanks" candidate.

Until the Obama records see the light of day, we'll fill in a few of those blanks.

Anyone who disagrees?

They know nothing; they are merely speculating as well.

It is now being discovered that the Ohio government checks into the records of Joe the Plumber were quite extensive. There are now four separate focal points of the investigation; among them, a low-level law enforcement computer operator--now relieved of duty--and the director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Helen Jones-Kelley.

This latter usage is far more troubling.

Not only because the job is a political appointment and the hold very likely knew better, but also because of a little-known quirk in the laws of search and seizure.

As reported in The Columbia Dispatch:

The checks were run after the news media reported that Wurzelbacher was considering buying a plumbing business with more than $250,000 in annual income, Jones-Kelley wrote.

"Given our understanding that Mr. Wurzelbacher had publicly indicated that he had the means to purchase a substantial business enterprise, ODJFS, consistent with past departmental practice, checked confidential databases ,...

"Not surprisingly, when a person behind in child support payments or receiving public assistance is receiving significant media attention which suggests that the person appears to have available financial resources, the Department risks justifiable criticism if it fails to take note and respond," Jones-Kelley wrote."

That, of course, is absolute nonsense.

How would anyone know if such a person owed child support? And an inquiry into the so-called past practices would reveal that no such 'practice' existed. The Federal and State guidelines for Child Support investigative sweeps require that there be a specific target first.

In other words, the agency must first know that Joe owes or owed child support.

It is unheard-of that such a sweep would occur at the cabinet level; normally the results of such investigations are not shared with individuals outside of the Child Support Directors office--pending legal action.

In fact this says much about the banana republic that Ohio is transforming itself into. In most States this would be a scandal of momentous occasion.

What is so special about the use of Child Suppport investigative techniques?

They are unique. Without any warrant, and unlike any other government entity, including the taxing authorities, Child Support has the ability to access all government computers: taxes, even Federal by arrangement, law enforcement, prison, labor, traffic, voter registration--you name it.

All government data bases are available to Child Support. In fact, Child Support can physically examine tax returns and applications of various sorts. So the rules of usage are very strict and the penalties normally severe.

But apparently not in Ohio.

The information was made public. We know Joe owed some property taxes. We know he does not owe child support. We also know that Ms Jones-Kelley searched his tax and criminal records.

This was relevant to child support, how?

The Obama birth certificate issue may become an issue.

Phillip Berg may have had his case dismissed in a Philadelphia federal court for lack of standing, but cases filed in the last few weeks in eight state courts are still pending over Barack Obama's citizenship issues.

Berg says he plans on appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Our opinion: the appeal will likely be denied, due to the standing issue.

Berg filed suit in court to force the Democrat nominee to produce an original "vault" copy of his birth certificate. Obama and the Democratic National Committee chose to fight the lawsuit, rather than produce the birth certificate.

Obama left the campaign trail for a few days last week to see his ailing grandmother in Hawaii. Rumors swelled over the timing of the visit. DBKP took the campaign's announcement at face value.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Hawaii Governor, Linda Lingle, has had the Obama birth certificate placed under seal.

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Although the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama's birth certificate has become a focus of intense speculation – and even several lawsuits – WND has learned that Hawaii's Gov. Linda Lingle has placed the candidate's birth certificate under seal and instructed the state's Department of Health to make sure no one in the press obtains access to the original document under any circumstances.

The governor's office officially declined a request made in writing by WND in Hawaii to obtain a copy of the hospital-generated original birth certificate of Barack Obama.

A source told World Net Daily "...confidentially the motivation for withholding the original birth certificate was political, although the source refused to disclose whether there was any information on the original birth certificate that would prove politically embarrassing to Obama."

Meanwhile, Kenyan authorities told WND that "all documents concerning Obama were under seal until after the U.S. presidential election on November 4."

Odd though the above situation may be, there's no need to invent rumors, as Jeff Schreiber notes.

From Addressing the Rumors Surrounding Surrick's Decision:

The newest thing, I see, is that the Hon. R. Barclay Surrick somehow was implored to decide as he did in the Berg v. Obama suit, that the memorandum and order was somehow thrust upon him by a former law clerk who now works closely with Michelle Obama. Fax transmissions shown on the readily-available document have been called into question, as though the judge was sent the decision he was supposed to render.

To which Schreiber replies, "People, come on."

We couldn't agree more.

There's enough questions surrounding this issue without manufacturing any: such as impugning the judge involved. Phillip Berg was always going to have the standing issue against him--whether you agreed with the thrust of his lawsuit or not.

The standing doctrine is crystal clear. The law, in this case, was on the side of Barack Obama and the DNC when it came down to the procedural details. To prevail, Berg needed Judge Surrick to play the role of judicial activist and expand the law as it stands today. I've noted before that the standing doctrine had changed over time, but just because the judge [unfortunately] declined to change it again, we cannot simply assume that he was somehow coerced to uphold the law.

The campaign may not have addressed this issue--just as it has not addressed the issue of not releasing Obama's medical, college and university records--by providing a copy of Obama's original birth certificate.

The refusal of the Obama campaign to allow the public to see Obama's records just days before the election is somewhat mystifying.

Unless there is something in them that the campaign feels will be damaging to their efforts to win the White House.

The spate of lawsuits popping up in state courts over the Obama birth certificate issue is a side one. Obama supporters can argue that Obama has produced an image on his website of a Certificate of Live Birth.

Fair enough. But Obama supporters can make no case for the candidate's refusal to release his other records. An informed electorate needs information.

That the reason we're more concerned with Obama making his other records off-limits to public scrutiny: medical records, college and univesity records.

Obama's Medical Records?



Barack Obama has refused to release his medical records. Instead, the public will have to make do with an undated letter signed by a doctor which assured the press and the American public that Obama was "in excellent health".

As DBKP noted last week, when John McCain delayed releasing his medical records to the press last May, the New York Times thundered to it dwindling readers:


"No presidential candidate should get to the point that he has locked up his party’s nomination without public vetting of his health."

Six months later, the New York Times is predictably silent on the still-secret Obama medical records.

Obama's Occidental College Records?



The only trace of Barack Obama at Occidental College that the public is allowed to see is a few poems that may be ordered on the college's website.

"Transcripts of his poems are available upon request."



Obama's Columbia University Records?

Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.

The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.

Obama's Harvard University Records?

Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign says his campaign will bring a new level of honesty and transparency to the White House. Obama proudly touts that he and Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla, passed a law requiring more transparency via a public database of all federal spending.

But when it comes to offering the public documents about his own public and private activities, Obama’s record for openness gets an "F" grade.

During the heated Democratic primary, Obama complained of the Bush White House being “one of the most secretive administrations in our history” and chided Sen. Hillary Clinton for not releasing her White House schedules.

Ironically, Obama, just days away from possibly being elected president, continues to stonewall a growing chorus of information requests for documents about his legislative, personal health, education, financing, and background -- leaving many voters to cast ballots based on incomplete information.

Obama Birth Certificate



Phillip Berg's lawsuit in federal court to force Obama to provide his birth certificate to a federal judge was dismissed yesterday due to Berg's lack of standing.

The order and memorandum came down at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Philip Berg's lawsuit challenging Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to serve as president of the United States had been dismissed by the Hon. R. Barclay Surrick on grounds that the Philadelphia attorney and former Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania lacked standing.

Berg's lack of standing was cited by many, including our crack research department, as the reason the Berg v. Obama suit would likely be dismissed.

This lack of standing will not settle the issue in the eight state courts where suits have been brought for the same reason as Berg. Their chances on the standing issue are greater.

Jeff Schreiber, Two Articles: Two Sides of Berg v. Obama, remarks on the same Newsmax article we saw last evening, Obama Refuses to Answer Birth Certificate Lawsuit.

The first piece is by Kenneth Timmerman of Newsmax, the same reporter who, just a few days ago, wrote so well about the questionable $63 million in Barack Obama's campaign coffers. He goes into detail about Obama's birth certificate, even providing a link to the Certificate of Live Birth provided by the Illinois senator, and an official Certificate of Live Birth from a person born just two years later. Reproduction issues aside, one quite obviously provides more information than the other.

Timmerman also raises an interesting point by highlighting a segment from one of Obama's memoirs in which he actually mentions the document:

Ironically, Obama mentions his birth certificate in passing on Page 26 of his 1995 memoir, “Dreams of My Father.” “I discovered this article, folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms, when I was in high school,” he wrote.

As much as I am a skeptic as to all of this business--I've said time and time again that I simply feel as though we are constitutionally obligated to ensure that our leaders are properly vetted--this, to me, presents a question as to why it was necessary for Obama to provide an obviously laser-printed, recent copy of his birth records in the first place. If he had his original, tucked in among articles and old vaccination forms, why not just provide that one?

Timmerman asks a good question.

OUR PREDICTION: It won't be the last time the question is asked before Election Day 2008.

Many readers are likely familiar with the job interview process. The process is simple: The prospective employer is trying to determine if the person he hires will enjoy success with the hiring company.

The company asks for information through an interview, the job application, a resume and the person wanting the job supplies various records--especially college and university records--to the employer to help the company make a decision. If the job is an attractive/important one, the employer will want as much information as possible.

Barack Obama is asking the American people to hire him as President of the United States.

It's a very important job.

If he wants the American people to hire him, he should provide as such basic information that plenty of other candidates have provided in the past: medical records, college records, university records and other records.

The Obama campaign is essentially asking the American people to trust him; to hire him as President.

He can begin earning that trust by providing his records to the press and public.

The Obama campaign refuses to release Obama's medical records--as well as Obama's records from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard.

Why is that?

Perhaps it is because, as one reader put it, "Every time somebody turns over a rock of Barack Obama's past, something unpleasant crawls out."

The Mainstream Media refuses to press the issue.

Why is that?

In the Chicago Tribune's case, it's because they have a vested interest: the Tribune asked Obama to run for president in 2006. Obama's campaign mastermind, David Axelrod, used to work for the Chicago Tribune. One would assume he still has a few friends that work at the paper.

And friends do favors for friends.

The following video details a few unpleasant facts about Barack Obama and what little is known about his past: his association with Bill Ayers, ACORN, Jeremiah Wright, and the list continues.



We saw the video on a post entitled, "The Smoking Gun Obama Post" at Infidels are Cool site.

The "smoking gun post" has a collection of links that ask a host of questions that would most likely make the Obama campaign uncomfortable--if they were pressed on the issues by MSM reporters.

But, they haven't been.

Plenty of questions about the ever-shifting narrative offered by Team Obama.

NewsMax investigated the claims made on Obama's "fightthesmears.com" and found that the 'Smears' About Obama Largely True.

"Smear" being the word for any uncomfortable information that has surfaced in the media or on the Internet.

Why does the Obama campaign refuse to release Obama's medical, college and university records?

Two reasons: one, the Mainstream Media allows them to get away with it. It's unthinkable what the outcry would be if John McCain had refused to release his records. In fact, in May, because McCain delayed in releasing his medical records, there was such an outcry.

The second reason for the refusal?

The refusal suggests the Obama campaign is afraid of what those records might reveal.

Many were the words written about John McCain and his medical records. That we delayed in releasing them. After McCain released nearly 1200 pages of medical records--the Arizona Senator not only had war-related injuries, but also bouts with skin cancer--the Mainstream Media complained that reporters were not given enough time to go through McCain's records: they were given three hours to look through them.

Three hours is far less time than it would take those same reporters to go through Barack Obama's medical records that have been released.

Because there are none.

The Obama campaign has stated that no medical records will be released. Instead, a one-page undated letter from a doctor will have to satisfy reporters on that issue.

The Mainstream Media's curiosity has been satisfied: there have been no calls for Barack Obama to release medical records.

The New York Times on Barack Obama in May:

The letter is the first publicly released information about Mr. Obama’s medical history or current condition. The six-paragraph, one-page statement summarized the senator’s health for the last 21 years and was signed by Dr. David L. Scheiner, who said he has been Mr. Obama’s primary care physician since March 23, 1987. The undated letter was released less than a week after Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, released his medical records.

A spokesman for Mr. Obama said his campaign would not make Dr. Scheiner available for a telephone interview."

Legion were the stories written assuring readers that "Barack Obama is in excellent health". That's great, then why not release the records?

Other presidential candidates have assured the MSM that they were in "excellent health", too.

It depends where your starting point is. I would say, yes, if you’re looking at the history of say, presidential candidates or candidates for high office. In the past, White House physicians have been known to lie; candidates for president or nominees have been known to evade the truth, distort the facts, or lie. You’ve got Woodrow Wilson with a stroke and his wife allegedly running the affairs of the country; you’ve got Franklin Roosevelt who may or may not have been told how deathly ill he was in his last term, and certainly nothing was told to the country about it; you’ve got Kennedy every which way not acknowledging that he had Addison’s disease; you had [Thomas] Eagleton who had to leave the [Democratic] ticket in ‘72 because he didn’t tell [George] McGovern about his past history of electric-shock therapy and depression; and there was [Paul] Tsongas in the mid-1990s and the fact that he had a recurrence after they had maintained that he was cured of cancer.

Barack Obama stands alone in the last three elections as the only candidate to not release medical records to the public.

Bush released medical and service records in 2000 and again in 2004: Bush releases his Vietnam-era military files

Though there were some questions, Kerry released records in 2004: Kerry allows Navy release of military, medical records

The MSM interest in George Bush's records was so intense in 2004, it lead CBS News and Dan Rather to report on forged records--though they weren't identified as such until the blogosphere pointed out the forgery.

What is in those medical records?

DBKP does not pretend to know--most likely nothing of interest. But we can't report that: we don't know. No one but the Obama campaign knows and they're not saying.

The medical records join Obama's college and university records as parts of the candidate's past that is off-limits.

We won't address the senator's birth records: that's another subject.

The refusal to release the medical records--as well as other information that Joe Sixpack has to provide--only leads to suspicions that only the Obama campaign can quiet.

The refusal of the Obama campaign to release records any American has to provide to secure employment is a puzzler: Obama promises "change" and "hope" and transparency.

The Obama campaign can demonstrate its commitment to transparency by releasing those records most American have to pony up every time they are interviewed for a job.

Who is Barack Obama?

It's not much help asking Obama supporters: they don't know and in many cases, don't care.

It's not much help to look at Obama's meager record. For a man running for president, Obama himself has made most of what little records there are, impossible to access.

It's not much help asking Barack Obama himself. Whenever it has been impossible for the Mainstream Media to ignore some aspect of Obama's record which does surface, he has run from it or insisted that he was unaware of what the record reveals.

* Reverend Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright? After vigorously defending Wright, Obama ran from him claiming that he sat in Wright's church for 20 years and never heard him say any of those unpleasant things about America.

* At first, Obama claimed that Bill Ayers was "just some guy from the neighborhood" or "one of the thousands of people I know". Bill O'Reilly bought it.

Others didn't. It was shown that Obama had a years-long relationship of working with Ayers, whose views on America (Every time I think of America, it makes me want to puke.") are well-known. Obama spokesmen first claimed that Obama didn't know about Ayers' past. Even that was hard for some in the MSM (Time's Mark Halperin) to swallow.

Obama then said he assumed that Ayers had been "rehabilitated".

We'll leave that as a judgment call.

* Obama's relationship with ACORN was something that Obama spoke proudly of--until the massive voter fraud was exposed. Then the Obama camp's position was that Obama "never worked for ACORN".

Who is Barack Obama?

Instead of asking questions, Big Media attacks those who do.

Instead of answering questions, the Obama campaign ignores them.

24 days before the election and a MSM that was buzzing about "anger" can talk about nothing but "hatred".

So we've had nearly 8 years of lefty assassination fantasies about George W. Bush, and Bill Ayers' bombing campaign is explained away as a consequence of him having just felt so strongly about social justice, but a few people yell things at McCain rallies and suddenly it's a sign that anger is out of control in American politics? It's nice of McCain to try to tamp that down, and James Taranto sounds a proper cautionary note -- but, please, can we also note the staggering level of hypocrisy here? (And that's before we get to the Obama campaign's thuggish tactics aimed at silencing critics.)

The Angry Left has gotten away with all sorts of beyond-the-pale behavior throughout the Bush Administration. The double standards involved -- particularly on the part of the press -- are what are feeding this anger. (Indeed, as Ann Althouse and John Leo have noted, the reporting on this very issue is dubious).

Who is Barack Obama?

Supporters mistakenly assert that Obama has released his medical records. On May 30, the L.A. Times wrote:

Although he hasn’t had a physical in 16 months, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been “in excellent health” and is physically ready to serve as president, his longtime physician wrote in a letter released by the campaign today.

The letter contained relatively few details but noted that Obama has a family history of cancer – his mother died of ovarian cancer and a grandfather of prostate cancer. A prostate-specific antigen test detected no issues for Obama, however.

Contrast this with John McCain.

The overview was contained in a one-page letter with no supporting documentation. “With no surgery or hospital stays, this is a complete summary of his doctor visits and medical records for the past two decades,” said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

The brief Obama letter contrasted with Arizona Sen. John McCain’s decision to let a selected group of reporters spend three hours with nearly 1,200 pages of health records last week.

One page from Obama's doctor vs. 1200 pages which John McCain allowed reporters to access. As an acquaintance remarked, "I've only been in the hospital once in the last 40 years and I've got pages of medical records. What gives?"

ABC News said much the same.

The release of a scant one-page summary for 21 years of care brought some criticism to the Obama campaign – especially when compared to the thousands of pages of medical records released by McCain.

Who is Barack Obama?

From the Berg v. Obama federal lawsuit, we "learn that Obama went by...5 different names with the lawsuit naming him as the defendant who is or was known as Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham, and Barry Dunham "

Five different names, the refusal to provide transcripts or school records, the refusal to provide an official birth certificate when asked in a lawsuit, and so on and so forth. I am sure Obama couldn't have done this all by himself. I'm sure he's had lots of help that got him where he is today and vie for a spot to become the President of the United States.

Who is Barack Obama?




Barack Obama's lone legislative accomplishment in the U.S. Senate has been the introduction of his Global Poverty Act of 2007.

"...the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs."

Estimated cost? More than $2800 for every man, woman and child in the U.S.A.--billions more than the financial bailout bill.


Who is Barack Obama?

What's the big deal with Barack Obama and his aversion to releasing records that may shed light on his past?

When Stanley Kurtz was finally allowed access to the Anneberg Challenge records, they revealed a load of things the Obama campaign would rather not talk about--and the MSM didn't, except to whitewash the Bill Ayers connection.

We're curious. That the election is only 24 days away and the Obama campaign has gotten to this point without releasing these many records is an indictment of a Mainstream Media more interested in cheerleading than investigating.

Forget investigating--how about just asking some questions?

24 days until the election and we wonder, "Who is Barack Obama and why won't he release his records?"

One can only hope this will change before election day.
