DBKP has reported on several occasions on feet that tend to wash up on the shores of British Columbia.


About 5 right feet have washed on British Columbia shores. So many, that beachcombers who do not find a dead person's foot while strolling are pissed. Pranksters are jumping in now to fuel the frenzy.

The Canadian Police initially reported that the feet belonged to some fellows who crashed in a plane. Then it was a sunken boat. Since they had DNA from all the immediate family members of those lost on the fight, which was real, unlike the boating mishap, the authorities could not explain why there was no match.

But we at DBKP managed to figure it out. We set our panel of experts on it, forensic scientists all, and they came back 7 minutes later and said there was no match because the DNA doesn't match. The findings did not put the DBKP staff at ease.




But now a discovery: one of the feet has been matched with a missing person.

Police identify one 'mystery foot' owner

Global TV reported Friday that RCMP had identified one of the five severed feet as belonging to a depressed man who was missing. RCMP Cpl. Pierre LeMaitre said police had ruled out foul play. Police planned to talk to the man's family Friday. More information may be released next week.

So one of the feet belongs to a missing person. Our condolences to the family.

But can anyone explain why all the feet have not already been compared with all missing persons? This is not even hard.

Well, Americans seem ever-willing to help out the Mounties. Washington State, in the same article has decided to assist by providing footless bodies--something it apparently has a surplus of.

A Washington state coroner said Friday that he wants to work with the B.C. Coroners Service to see if there's a connection between footless skeletal remains discovered in the San Juan Islands and the mysterious feet that have washed ashore in southwest B.C.

San Juan County coroner Randall Gaylord said a body was discovered by a hiker on Orcas Island in the San Juan archipelago in March 2007. The body did not have a right arm, right hand, left hand or any feet.

There you have it. A Canadian-American law enforcement partnership.

Canadian Police Still Baffled as More Severed Feet Keep Turning Up

The very creepy story of the feet that keep floating up on the shores of Western Canada continues.

Canadian Police Baffled: The Case of the Grisly Right Feet

At the time of that DBKP story, only feet had been discovered. DBKP reported on the grisly discovery of the third right foot on British Columbia beaches. The mystery of human feet washing up on Canadian shores has only deepened with the discovery of foot numbers four and five. On May 22 of this year someone's day was ruined by the discovery of the fourth such foot. As reported by C News of Canada:

"The latest head-scratcher that's leaving everyone from police to oceanographers baffled are a series of sneaker-clad right feet that have washed up on shorelines along islands in British Columbia."

There have been four in less than a year. All feet were wearing socks and shoes. Two of them were size 12.

"It's certainly a mystery we intend on solving," Constable Annie Linteau with the RCMP E Division told the media recently. "It's certainly very unusual."

The first in the series was found nearly a year ago on Jedidiah Island. Within days, another right foot was found inside a man's Reebok sneaker on Gabriola Island. The third was found on the east side of Valdez Island in early February.

The origin on any of the remains is still unknown.

Linteau said that there's no evidence the feet were severed or removed from the victims' legs by force.

Actually the fact that the feet were not severed was of little comfort to anyone who followed the story. And we certainly agree with Annie L that it is unusual.

Since the feet were wearing shoes, our guess is that decomposition--and animals--allowed for the skeletal separation. The shoes--no doubt casual walking shoes with aerated soles--floated the feet to near the surface.

But, the comfort of the shoes is of little comfort to us here at DBKP.

You see, we want to know why Canadian beaches seem to be littered with more body parts than a Chicago park or an Iraqi market. No one goes to Chicago or Iraq unless they must. Canada is one of our favorite vacation spots, particularly British Columbia.

So this headline sort of caught my attention:

"5th foot found on B.C.'s south coast"

A human foot was discovered partially submerged in the water near Westham Island in Ladner, B.C., Delta police said Monday.

It's the fifth human foot police have found in the province in less than a year.

"As far as it being linked to other partial remains found, we haven't dismissed that. We're considering all possibilities," Const. Sharlene Brooks told CBC News."

Given the aimless vapidity of the law enforcement spokeswomen, (I'm guessing here the men took a powder and decided that women are better at feet stories when shoe #5 thumped down on the coroner's desk), we are guessing the authorities are clueless.

"Right now we're working very closely with the B.C. coroners' service to identity the person whose remains we have recovered," Brooks said.

Four right feet, each wearing a sock and sneaker, have been discovered in the province since August.

A woman's right foot was found on the uninhabited Kirkland Island in the Fraser River in May, just a few kilometres from Westham Island where Delta police found the fifth foot Monday.

Three other men's right feet washed up in the Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. In August, feet were discovered on Gabriola and Jedediah islands and, in February, another foot was found on Valdez Island.

B.C.'s chief coroner told CBC News Monday night that investigators have been unable to determine who the four right feet belonged to.

Terry Smith said DNA profiles have been completed on the feet but no matches have been made.

"We'll continue to try and identify known profiles that we can compare them to until we have a match," he said.

So Terry, may we assist you in small way?

First, let us share with you Terry, that if someone was missing a foot and needed you to match it, they would have checked in already.



Secondly, Terry, I think the notoriously incurious Canadian press ( Slogan: All The News That Is Politically Correct And Approved. Seal: Canadian Human Rights Commission) owes a few questions to the readers on what passes for news in Canada.

Like: does the DNA conform to a single racial group, age, sex, ethnic orgin, or other identifying feature?

* Do the times of death match, or are they separated?

* Are the shoe brands similar and where is the factory of their manufacture?

* Are the socks manufactured in the same country and what country was that?

* Do the hair samples contain drug traces?

* What is the scope of the missing persons dragnet?

* Any missing craft in the indicated death period?

You see Terry, these people were likely murdered. And this has gone from the bizarre to the not-so-funny. These feet once had brothers and sisters, parents and spouses.

Canada's Pole Dancer Shortage: A Job Canadians Won't Do?

In one of the starkest examples of why immigration is necessary to fill the job slots Canadians won't do, a group representing the owners of 53 stripper clubs in the Ontario area has announced the need to modify visa requirements for foreigners--so as to allow exotic, exotic dancers an easier trip to the Canadian stage.

"Up to 98 per cent of foreign exotic dancers who apply for visas get turned down, said the group's executive director, Tim Lambrinos.
This has led to a reduction in the number of work permits and extensions granted to foreign strippers from 423 in 2004 to just 17 in 2006."

Darn.

It is not like Ontario is a fun place in midwinter as it is.

Now that is a failure rate that makes it obvious: the Canadians have a fine eye for womanhood. Clearly stripping in Canada is no easy gig to get.

But the Canadians are now desperate.

So, "One way might be to use foreign student visas since foreign students can now work for 20 hours a week in any job, said Labrinos."



But until then, locals will have to settle for less.

Man-Made Climate Change Causes "Snow Rage" in Quebec

Maybe the Canucks could hire this guy to referee...

Record snowfall, snow cover and cold records set throughout the world likely won't dampen the enthusiasm of the man-made climate changers.

Neither will one more story frost the heat of man-made climate change frenzies.

Reuters reports that across Canada, incidents of "snow rage" are breaking out as people lose their cool over the huge amounts of snow.

Disputes over parking spaces and snow removal have been been reported especially heated in Quebec, where police have been called to an alarming number of arguments about snow blowing from one property to another. About a dozen turned violent.

Recent Canadian winters have been mild but this one looks set to break all-time records for snow. One storm last weekend dumped 23 inches on the capital Ottawa and 19 inches on Quebec City, which has already received 210 inches this year. The drifts outside some houses are 12 feet and higher.

Last Sunday, a man in an upscale Quebec City neighborhood became so upset a woman from a snow removal service was putting snow on his yard that he shouted at her and then took a shovel and hit the window of the vehicle she was driving.

"The woman apologized and returned to work ... a bit later the man opened his garage door and emerged with a shotgun, pointed it at the ground and looked at her in a threatening way," said police spokeswoman Catherine Viel.

Police arrested the man, who will be charged with negligent use of a firearm, and seized a total of 13 weapons from his home. Viel said snow-related fights were unusually common.

"It's happened particularly often this year ... you have to be used to snow if you live in Quebec but it's been a bit extreme this year. People are fed up," she said.

The hot tempers may not cool for awhile yet, since Environment Canada indicates there is no signs that winter is about to end. It snowed once more in Ottawa and the City of Quebec last week.

Montreal is also having problems disposing of the snow. One massive mound is around 80-feet high and officials told reporters that unless steps were taken to dismantle the pile, much of it would still be there when next winter started.

We fully realize that weather and climate is a tricky thing: hard to predict and given to cycles of hot and cold.

Because of this record winter, which has negated the tiny average gain of the last 30 years, we're not calling for carbon tax credits, reduced economic activity, more taxes and regulation--for global cooling.

We know that climate and weather are incredibly hard for man to influence.

Eighty-foot snow drifts, record amounts of snow--even for Canada--and no end in sight.

The first two discoveries were made within a week of each other, two men's right feet, still shod in their sneakers, both a size 12, each found on separate islands in the Georgia Strait of Vancouver.

The first foot, encased in a white and blue men's runner, was found Aug. 20 last year on Jedidiah Island; the second right foot appeared six days later on Gabriola Island, in a white and black sneaker.Source - The Star

And then there was a third. On Feb. 8, a third right foot was found on Valdes Island, a size 12, shod in a sneaker.

No matches were found when DNA testing was run on the first two feet. The third foot is now undergoing testing. The police are treating all three feet as separate investigations. If all three feet belonged to men who died under separate unrelated circumstances, assuming they are, in fact, deceased, the odds would be astronomical.

Deputy Chief Jeff Dolan said that while finding unidentified human remains is not unusual, the circumstances surrounding the three feet are.

"The fact there are three very similar sets of remains uncovered from one particular waterway is not something we've seen before," said Dolan yesterday. "We're not ruling anything out at this point." Source - The Province

Nanaimo coroner Dave Sherstone said it could prove to be impossible to find out where the three feet originated from or how the men lost their feet:

He said it's impossible to say where the feet may have originated or if they came from a single source such as an accident. "It's all current and tidal action, it could come from anywhere," he said. "The reason these things come to the surface is they float."

The Georgia Strait, between the mainland of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, is 150 miles long and forms part of the inland steamship passage to Alaska.

According to the Georgia Strait Alliance:

Every year, thousands of freighters ply the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, headed for Vancouver, Seattle, or one of the many industrial installations on Puget Sound and the Strait of Georgia. These ships carry all manner of materials in addition to fuel and lubricating oils.

The Alliance writes about shipping accidents and how they are common:

November 23, 2003: the Black Dragon, the same rusty freezer/packer ship that had carried illegal immigrants from China to Vancouver Island’s west coast in 1999, sunk while under tow off Cadboro Point.

The area around the islands is popular for kayaking. One kayaker writes about the Strait, warning that one must be experienced before heading out into the Strait:

Do not even go to the outside of Valdes into the Georgia Strait until you have gained considerable experience paddling in windy conditions. If you are passing by any of these aforementioned passes, give them a wide berth if you are going past theme specially at full tidal flow because they could easily suck you right through them. Going with a 10 knot tide is very scary as you might be thrown into a rock or hit a kelp forest at speed and crash into the cold. If you master this area, you are ready to go further north or south, or into the San Juans, or out to the Pacific side of the big island to learn more sea skills. Once my family and I were fighting our way against a 3-4 mile per hour tide back into the inside of Valdes at Gabriola and a tugboat came through pulling hundreds of trees logged off Valdes by the Indians. Other than shipping and boating accidents or the kayakers that inhabit the area there is also the specter of a serial killer, one whose victims seem to be men with size 12 feet and a penchant for wearing sneakers.

That's if, the men, are indeed, dead.

Red Planet Cartoons has an excellent backstory on the Mark Steyn Vs. the Canadian Thought Police.

It relates the story of Steyn, author of #1 best-seller America Alone and five Muslim law-school students who utilize the one Western idea radical Muslims seem to embrace: the lawsuit.
[Note: I saw the "one Western idea radical muslims embrace" phrase somewhere the last few weeks and can't remember where.]

That a government agency would even hear this case is evidence of the grip that Political Correctness has on the Great White North, at least the portion that resides in Ottawa.

Man-Made Climate Change: Evidence Piles Up In Ottawa

More sobering evidence of the warming of the earth.

This time from our neighbors to the north.

Ottawa will continue to crawl out from a record-breaking snowfall Tuesday as crews tackle one of the biggest snow removal operations in the city's history.

"It's no Academy Award, but it was the snowiest December day ever in the capital," said Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips.

In total, 37 centimetres fell in Sunday's storm, setting a record for the most snow in a single December day since Environment Canada started keeping records in 1938. The previous record was 30.4 centimetres, which fell Dec. 21, 1977.

We understand that anecdotal evidence is not a very strong argument for global warming.

That's why we offered it.

Meanwhile, just scant days after the drama of the United Nations conference at Bali, the debate continues.

Canadian Town Shocked by American's Reaction to Shopping Ad

Crossing the Canadian Border into America?

The residents of metro Detroit felt the Canadians from Leamington were taking potshots at them when they read an ad put out by the Uptown Leamington Business Improvement Association. In turn the Canadians were stunned and wondered if the Americans were thin skinned and lacked a sense of humor.

Some metro Detroit residents are seeing red because a small Canadian town known as the Tomato Capital of the World is slamming Detroit and the United States ina marketing campaign to keep Canadian shoppers from crossing the border.

The Uptown Leamington Business Improvement Association sent a list last month to 14,000 households in the town of 30,000 and the surrounding area detailing why Leamington -- with 200 unique shops -- is a better place to shop than southeast Michigan.

A look at what's on the list

1. Uptown Leamington has over 200 unique shops, restaurants and other attractions, takes your loonies and has the best service in North America.

2. With the gas and time you'll save, why risk it in a crazy foreign country?

3. Being strip searched at customs should not be part of your holiday shopping tradition.

4. No need to wear that new gown under your sweats coming back over the Ambassador.

5. American cashiers keep asking what Helen Mirren is doing on the Canadian twenty.

6. U.S. stores sooner ship to Guam than Essex County.

7. If you're going to downtown Detroit and you speak English ... good luck.

8. If you're going to downtown Detroit and you speak French ... good luck.

9. Distance from parking spaces to Somerset Mall entrance farther than your house to

Melanie Davis, president of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, took the high road while she had harsh words for the Tomato Capital of the World:

I would like to think that I could come up with some reasons to shop somewhere without having to take potshots at another community."

Hopefully the two communities will be able to "rise above" the current crisis and reach some sort of holiday "truce."

Iran Tells Canadian Ambassador To Take A Hike

A tale of countries, two embassies, and no Ambassadors. The Iranians ordered the Canadian Ambassador to pack his bags and catch the red-eye back home. Even though Iran has expelled the Canadian ambassador the Canadian Embassy will remain open, run by the charge d'affair.

OTTAWA – Canada's ambassador to Iran has been ordered to leave the country, Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier said in a statement late Monday.

Bernier says the decision is entirely unjustifiable.

The statement says Ottawa will continue to monitor the well-being of the other embassy staff in Tehran. [1]

Canada has refused to "accept" the candidates that Iran has proposed.

What was missing from the Star article was the reason behind the "cold shoulder" given to Iran from Canada. From the BBC:

Relations between the two countries have been strained since a Canadian-Iranian journalist died in police custody in Iran in 2003.

In November, the UN passed a Canadian-sponsored resolution condemning Iran's "systematic violations of human rights". [2]

No word yet from Iran as to why they chose to expel the Canadian Ambassador. At this juncture it's become an 'Ambasssadorial Impasse.'

Canadian Justice? Police Shoot Family's Dogs in Front of Them

Police break in the door and shoot a family's dogs as they watch. A story of Canadian justice north of the border, from the Ottawa Citizen:

Joanne Charlebois said she was spending the evening packing for a move with the help of friends, and her daughters, aged 16 and 19, were studying with a pal, when men in helmets broke down the door of her McArthur Ave apartment.

Charlebois claims officers gave no warning before shooting the dogs, whom she says were gentle mutts who were running away in fear. They left bullet holes in the floor and a casing under the sofa.

"I heard bangs at the front door, they knocked the door in," a weeping Charlebois said. "I thought it was a joke for Halloween.

What happened next is the fear of every person who ponies up money on the American side of the border for the ACLU.

"Then click, boom, boom. My dog (Daisy) was in the air, her legs shaking. Then my dog Maxine came running to me and they blew her head off right next to me.

"They came in and terrorized my household. They killed our dogs ... I'm traumatized, my daughters are traumatized."

The officers kept asking where the cocaine and guns were hidden and tore the place apart.

Maybe it's the libertarian streak, but sometimes, you agree that maybe the ACLU is needed--even if this story did take place in Canada. Even if the ACLU's actions sometimes make you flinch.
