PC in Britain: Police Often Take the Side of Lawbreakers

DBKP UK PC Roundup

Britain As Hell

Time once again for the DBKP United Kingdom weekly round up, where we explore the zany world of Political Correctness as a way of life.

The British started the week with the Police intimidating another elderly victim. it seems hardly a day can go by without the coppers deciding that criminals are far too dangerous for them, but slapping down the law abiding--and basically defenseless geriatrics--is just too much fun to pass on.

Grandmother arrested on race charges after telling rowdy Asian students to 'go home'

Now I know what you are thinking. Blurting out "Go home!" to a bunch of drunken Muslim thugs (The Koran apparently has multiple interpretations regarding drinking, but only Muslims are allowed to know what, when and how they apply) is criminally racist speech.

Or so the Police thought. The Crime:

After being woken for the third time in one night by a group of drunken and noisy students, Jo Calvert-Mindell was at her wits' end.

The former policewoman got dressed, went outside and shouted at them: 'Why can't you go back to where you come from and make some noise there? I bet your families and neighbours wouldn't put up with it.

She also reported the incident to police, who came and dispersed the eight students.

The 51-year-old grandmother was astonished when four months later she was arrested and accused of being a racist. It turned out that two Asians in the group had complained to the police

In April, Miss Calvert-Mindell, who has never been in trouble with the police before, was charged with using racially aggravated threatening words or behaviour under section 5 of the Public Order Act.

That is right. She wasn't telling them to go back to Pakistan. Just to go home.

But because they were Muslims ("Asian" in Brit PoliCeSpeak), she faced charges. It is important for all to know that freedom of speech is non-existent in Britain, and free thought is is disappearing, as well.

Speaking of Muslims:
Police told to warn criminals before setting canines on them - in case they are FRIGHTENED or ALLERGIC to dog hair

First, a little primer on British PoliCeSpeak. When the Brits talk about Muslims, the only time the word is used is in a positive reference. When it comes to the day-to-day anti-social, Sudden Muslim Grievance Syndrome, terrorism , misogyny, and intolerance that makes this 'religion' such a barrel of laughs, the Brits seem unable to utter the word "Muslim".

From the story:

Being chased by a police dog was never intended to be a pleasant experience. But now handlers are being extra careful to avoid upsetting criminals' sensibilities by giving them advance warning before dogs are set on them. Forces across Britain are being instructed to 'avoid offending' sufferers of cynophobia - the clinical name for a fear of canines - or those allergic to dog hair. The move comes amid fears that suspects whose medical conditions are triggered by dogs may file costly compensation bills against the force which authorised their use during arrests or raids on homes.

So how do we know this is about Muslims, and not the ordinary drug runner or crazy murderer on the run?

Because on July 6, 2008 the British police announced that police dogs would wear shoes when entering Muslim homes.

From Times On Line:

Police sniffer dogs will have to wear bootees when searching the homes of Muslims so as not to cause offence. Where Muslims object, officers will be obliged to use sniffer dogs only in exceptional cases. Where dogs are used, they will have to wear bootees with rubber soles. “We are trying to ensure that police forces are aware of sensitivities that people can have with the dogs to make sure they are not going against any religious or cultural element within people’s homes. It is being addressed and forces are working towards doing it,” Acpo said

But that bit of ass kissing was not good enough. So this week the Brits stooped lower.

Photographing thugs 'is assault', police tell householder snapping proof of anti-social behaviour

A householder who took photographs of hooded teenagers as evidence of their anti-social behaviour says he was told he was breaking the law after they called the police. David Green, 64, and his neighbours had been plagued by the youths from a nearby comprehensive school for months, and was advised by their headmaster to identify them so action could be taken. The youths were aged around 17; he said one threatened to kill him while another called the police on his mobile. And he claimed that a Police Community Support Officer sent to the scene promptly issued a warning that taking pictures of youths without permission was illegal, and could lead to a charge of assault.

Typical yobs

One of Mr Green's pictures shows two hooded teenagers, one making an obscene gesture towards the camera.

What about the thugs that were terrorizing and vandalizing the neighborhood? Don't ask. You could be arrested for anti-social thought. And the story helpfully points out that Mr Green's excessive use of the camera is not an isolated incident.

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that a father was told by a play equipment supervisor he was not allowed to take pictures of his own children on a slide.

British Police are sometimes willing to give a hand.

Police 'put half-naked rape victim in minicab and made her pay fare home'

Police allegedly marched a rape victim who had been found crying in the street at 1am to a cab firm, and then made her pay the fare home....instead of driving her to a hospital or a police station, the officers took her to a taxi firm close to Southwark Tube station. After it was found no one could collect her, the taxi firm agreed to take her home. The woman reported the incident, which took place on 4 July, the next day but investigators fear important forensic evidence may have been lost. A senior source said: 'It should have been clear that she may have been sexually assaulted. To top it off, they put her in a cab with another strange man.' Police think the woman may have been raped by an unlicensed taxi driver who dumped her in the street.

That story needs no comment.

It says everything one need know about British Police.

Dog the Bounty Hunter: Big Rumblings from the Rumor Mill

There has been no news on the Dog the Bounty Hunter. All the news lately has been of the different efforts of the Dog's fans in their quest to get the Dog the Bounty Hunter show back on the airwaves.

So, we scoured and called and wrote. What we came up with was rumblings and rumors.

But, several of the rumors we heard, we heard in more than one place--from more than one source. So we thought that we'd present some of the things we heard and let the readers decide what they thought.

Maybe some of you have heard the same thing, or have information that we don't have.

Here's some of what we heard after a day of Dog info hunting and what we think about it. We know the readers won't be shy about what they think.

[Truth-O-Meter Ratings: 0 (it's probably a lie) to 10 (bet the ranch)]

* The Dog's been laying low.
Not much of a rumor here. It's a fact. Duane "Dog" Chapman has been out of the spotlight for several weeks now.

This is not very surprising, either. In Dog's case, "No News is Good News" right now.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 10.0]

* The Dog will be back in the public eye soon..
Again, this bit of information is easy to believe. The Dog won't stay hidden forever and has got to surface again sometime.

How soon is soon?

For many fans of the Bounty Hunter, it can't be soon enough. One of the common themes, in both comments left at this site and emails we've received, is that people feel a hole has developed in their regular TV viewing habits without their weekly 'dose of Dog'.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 8.5]

* The 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' show will not in the future and may never return to the airwaves.
We don't believe this. We don't believe anything in the world of TV, driven as it is by ratings, is set in stone. Duane Chapman's show was popular and a mainstay in the A & E Network's line-up.

This was one rumor we heard only one time. And we don't even like the guy who said it.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 3.0]

* There has been a "reaching out" to Dog by Afro-American groups.
This one we can believe. From the amount of email and comments we've received from ordinary black folk, there is a great rolling of eyes about what Dog said: but no acrimony, and certainly no hatred.

A great majority of our mail begins, "I'm non-Caucasian and you can tell that Dog is not a racist. He shouldn't have said what he said, but he didn't say it in anger." Or some variation of those thoughts.

If memory serves, there was no outcry against Dog and what was said during his private cellphone conversation by Black America.

Make no mistake: they were not happy, but judging from what we read, they shrugged their shoulders and shook their head at a man using ill-considered bad language.

The outcry came from certain White Americans eager to throw another person under the Political Correctness bus. This outcry came from the same quarters that attempts to stifle speech on college campuses, shout down disagreeable opinions and speakers and regulate Internet bloggers.

To them, this had nothing to do with Dog the Bounty Hunter; many of them wouldn't know Dog Chapman from a carburetor. Duane Chapman was only a means to an end.

Muzzling the Dog was their way of flexing their PC muscles.

Thankfully, those people are a small, if noisy, segment of the American population.

This rumor has substance because: Black or White, no one likes to see a person get railroaded. And Duane Chapman got railroaded.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 7.5]

* Duane Chapman hasn't so much as swore in the last month.
As unbelievable as this might be when first heard, we heard this from multiple sources. Dog is trying hard to clean up his whole language act.

We smiled the first time we heard this; our eyes opened wide, the second time; but the third time, well, what could we say?

As one source told us, "the Dog causing hurt and heartache among some of his fans really hit home with him on the need to clean up his language. He kept saying he was going to clean it up, but I'd heard that before."

"But this time--he accepted the challenge. I'm not saying he won't ever slip up ever again--he's human--but I haven't heard him swear in over three weeks."

One source even told us the Dog's swear-free and said "I swear it!"

After hearing this from three different people, we tend to believe it: after all, if it wasn't true, the National Enquirer would have had it on their front page by now.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 8.0]

* The Dog and Beth are getting a divorce over this whole mess.
I think this guy got Dog confused with another TV show star.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 2.0]

So that's it. After a whole day spent on the phone, this is what we dug up.

There was a few other things, but we're going to be doing some more checking on those items over the weekend.

Has anyone heard any of these? Does anyone have any additional information to offer? We'd like to know!

In the meantime, one source had this to pass on to Dog's fans: "Keep your chin up and your ears open."

Education and Globaloney:
School Teaches Humans Are the Villains

There once was a time when the favorite villain in any movie was the Nazi. In the 50s and even into the 60s, Nationist Socialists were everywhere on the screen.

Today's evil-doers?

Human beings.

Human beings are consuming resources, something they were doing long before today's teachers consumed enough resources to obtain a teaching license.

The Soviets had their political education commissars, responsible for the idealogical indoctrination of their pupils. The hapless teachers mentioned below would perhaps have qualified as commissars.

A sad tale of a poor clueless school district and their poor clueless charges.
Third-grade teacher Debbie Robles made her acting debut before a packed auditorium of youngsters at Rancho Elementary School in Novato. She bombed.

Playing the villain in a school assembly Wednesday aimed at educating the students about global warming, Robles - dressed in a witch's black attire and prancing around the auditorium as "Queen Carbon" - drew the biggest response from more than 500 students who attended two "Curb Your Carbon" assemblies.

"My own daughter Hannah asked me, 'Do you have to be my mother today?'" Robles said.

Teachers, parents and volunteers helped organize the assemblies and participated in the skits to help raise awareness about global warming and what people can do about it - exchanging traditional light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs, for example.

School officials distributed more than 500 CFLs last week.

-Sigh.-
60+ years after World War II and the Nazis are still the villains.

Only this time, they're disguised as techers and having their students perform the global warming goosestep.

7 Politically Incorrect Media Celebrities

The coverage yesterday of Duane Chapman, star of TV's Dog the Bounty Hunter and the 'N-word'-spiked tape from his cellphone conversations about his son's black girlfriend seemed familiar. Dog wasn't the first to put his foot into his mouth. Here's a quick look at media celebrities who did it before Dog.

Arts and Entertainment Network immediately announced that production of "Dog the Bounty Hunter" had been suspended. Later news clarified that the show hadn't been canceled, only pulled off the air. Chapman said that he was "sorry" and wanted to meet with black leaders to "make things right". The rehabilitation began for Dog.

There is a template for this type of incident:
1-commit a faux pas;
2-discovery of said remark;
3-media amplification;
4-public remorse by the personality;
5-meetings with "leaders" in the offended community
6-drop out of sight for awhile; sometimes enrolling in some sort of counseling.
7-and finally, rehabilitation.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Dog was only the latest media personality to fall victim to political correctness. Some of the incidents listed below are people saying in public what is said more privately. Some are reprehensible. All are revealing looks at what the personality says when the microphones are switched off.

The physically-difficult act of inserting the foot in the mouth is much more easily done in the media spotlight.

1-Don Imus
Shock jock Imus had his 'Imus in the Morning' show canceled by CBS for his "nappy-headed hos" remark. Imus followed the template will soon be back on the air.

2-Kramer (Michael Richards)
Richards' use of the 'N-word' at a comedy club in an on-stage tirade wasn't so funny. The former "Seinfeld" star is staying out of sight and hoping the public forgets the image he presented that night.

3-Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder
Former bookie and NFL analyst Snyder said in 1988 the black athlete is "bred to be the better athlete because, this goes all the way to the Civil War when ... the
slave owner would breed his big woman so that he would have a big black kid." Snyder later apologizes for the comments but his career as a broadcaster was over.

4-Howard Cosell

"Look at that little monkey go!"
In September 1983, referring to wide receiver Alvin Garrett of the
Washington Redskins; the statement was denounced as racist, but it was
pointed out that Cosell had regularly used the same term to describe
small players of all races, as well as his grandchildren.

5-Ken Hatfield
Any major college football coach could be fairly lumped into the 'media personality' category. Rice University football coach Ken Hatfield has found himself in a
swirl of controversy for recent comments attributed to him about
homosexuals in The Chronicle for Higher Education, a weekly newspaper
for college administrators and faculty members.

In a story about gay athletes in the Nov. 1 issue titled "The
Loneliest Athlete," Hatfield is quoted as asserting homosexuality
clearly conflicts with his religious beliefs and that he would
consider removing a player from the team if that player said he was
gay.

The article's author, Jennifer Jacobson, writes: "(Hatfield) says that
while he would not necessarily kick a player off the team for being
gay, he probably would think hard about it."

6-Mel Gibson
Gibson, arrested for speeding last year and obviously intoxicated, berated the arresting officer with anti-Semitic slurs. It was an odd look at history, but Gibson put his worldview on display. Gibson received universal condemnation after apologizing and entering rehab.

7-Halle Berry
Halle Berry has apologized after allegedly making a Jewish joke –
which was then edited out for broadcast – at a taping of The Tonight
Show with Jay Leno last Friday.

Berry was involved in a segment with Leno in which she showed
computer-distorted photos of herself. According to the New York Post's
Page Six, Berry showed one image in which she had a large, distorted
nose and said, "Here's where I look like my Jewish cousin!"

When the program aired later that night, the word "Jewish" was cut,
and a laugh track was inserted in its place.

After she made the remark, Leno said, "I'm glad you said it." Berry,
41, then said, "Oh my God, have I just like ruined my career.."

David Brooks, writing in the New York Times last year in "The Death of Multiculturalism", detailed the apparent passing-away of Political Correctness. In it, he lists some of the reasons for its demise. He remarks about the Democrat Party's move away from a champion of PC.
In 1994 multiculturalism was at its high-water mark, and Richard Bernstein wrote ''Dictatorship of Virtue,'' describing its excesses: the campus speech codes, the forced sensitivity training, the purging of dead white males from curriculums, the people who had their careers ruined by dubious charges of racism, sexism and ethnocentrism.

Then two years later, the liberal writer Michael Tomasky published ''Left for Dead,'' which argued that the progressive movement was being ruined by multicultural identity politics. Democrats have lost the ability to talk to Americans collectively, Tomasky wrote, and seem to be a collection of aggrieved out-groups: feminists, blacks, gays and so on.
Brooks' noting of the shifting of emphasis among Democrats is worth noting.
Goodbye, Jesse Jackson. Goodbye, Gloria Steinem. Hello, Harry Truman.
There are other media personalities that have revealed more of themselves to the public than they would have wished. We couldn't list them all. The ones we listed were the ones that occurred to us.

They won't be the last.

Watson Apologizes to Blacks:

The Nobel Winner And the Forces of PC

[photo:CNN}
UPDATE:
Watson Suspended From Research Post

by Mondoreb

UPDATE: 1:47 pm 10-19-07--James Watson has been suspended from his research post. The forces of political correctness are strong in the United Kingdom. From CNN:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Nobel laureate biologist James Watson was suspended Friday from his longtime post at a research laboratory and canceled his planned British book tour after controversial comments that black people are not as intelligent as white people.
Our Original Story:
Score one for Political Correctness.
James Watson, Nobel prize-winning discoverer of the DNA double helix, discovered something quite different this week: what it's like when you say something that runs afoul of the forces of PC.

From CNN:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Nobel laureate biologist Jim Watson apologized "unreservedly" Thursday for stating that black people were not as intelligent as whites, saying he was "mortified" by the comments attributed to him.

"I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said," Watson said during an appearance at the Royal Society in London.

"To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologize unreservedly. That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief," he said.
There are mountains of research about IQ and the subtle, but quantifiable differences between groups, races and individuals. Professor Richard J. Herrnstein and AEI political scientist Charles Murray felt the PC backlash in 1994 when they published the Bell Curve.
From Wikipedia:
The Bell Curve is a controversial, best-selling 1994 book by the late Harvard professor Richard J. Herrnstein and American Enterprise Institute political scientist Charles Murray. Its central point is that intelligence is a better predictor of many factors including financial income, job performance, unwed pregnancy, and crime than parent's Socio-Economic status or education level. Also, the book argued that those with high intelligence (the "cognitive elite") are becoming separated from the general population of those with average and below-average intelligence, and that this was a dangerous social trend
It's dangerous when reporters, editors and bloggers attack research they don't understand. A comment which might be perfectly correct in a room where everyone is a scientist and used to rigorous testing of ideas is taken out of context. The forces of PC jump on it, shouting down the author, the scientist and the research itself. This is can be seen everyday in the debate about climate change.

James Watson's comments are the story here to many. The worrisome habit of branding something which is disagreeable as "racist" and shouting it down is what's troublesome. Climate change or IQ,: the forces of PC are more interested in a rigid conformity than they are in debate.

James Watson is the latest to discover this.
